Amazing tapas spot in Barcelona right off las ramblas. Great Quality and reasonable pricing. We got a bunch of different things to try. We loved the steak and also the dates! Highly recommend while in town.
Came recommended by our hotel - we went early cause this place gets packed....no reservations - but the line moved pretty quickly. We chose several options off the tapas menu....loved the steak with Fois! Service was great, cute ambiance, was a solid choice so glad we went. It's a fun area it's in also.
I went here the day I arrived and my last night in Barcelona. Amaya was our server, both times we were a group of 6. If you have an open pallet to tapas and would like to experience this place, let the waiter select for your group. The first night he did fabulous, the second time we thought we knew how n what to order-we ended up with too much food. The sangria and local beer is fabulous. Also-their menu changes each day and night-the experience will be different for each person.
whatever you're doing in Barcelona, make a stop at this delicious tapas bar. They don't take reservations but the wait moves quickly as you'll see the servers moving fast! Every tapa we ordered was soooo goood that we started and ended our trip here we had the classic patatas bravas, jamón ibérico, croquettes, bacalao, & huevos cabreados - everything delicious. for dessert, we tried torrija quemada, churros con chocolate, crema catalana, and roscón borrachín. The vibe reminds me of a busy New York diner, which I love, so if you're looking for something more quiet and calm then this might not be the spot for you.
The service here is excellent! Our large group of 10 was handled with extra care, and without a reservation! I asked about something that was not on their menu, and they had the chef make it for us anyway--sliced tomatoes with olive oil and pulpos with garlic and olive oil instead of the tomato base sauce it normally comes with. Literally everything we ordered was fantastic. If you think I'm being biased because we were treated very well and our party had a wonderful time, then go ahead and call it bias. But the fact that we walked away happy, satisfied, and will have long-lasting memories at this place, then they succeeded! Restaurants are not strictly about the food. It's the entire experience. My family and friends will recommend this place to anyone going to Barcelona.
During our three days in Barcelona, Cervecería Ciudad Condal was the very first tapas restaurant we visited -- and it turned out to be the absolute best! Our server, Amaya, was funny, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive. He took great care of us, and every single recommendation he made was delicious. I wish I knew all the Spanish names of the dishes because everything was amazing. The highlights for us were the Bacalao -- so tender and full of flavor -- and honestly the best octopus I've ever had in my life. We also loved the soft steak with duck liver served on a slice of French baguette, the shrimp skewers, patatas, and the Spanish ham with tomato toasts. Every dish was unforgettable. On top of the incredible food, the restaurant itself has such an elegant atmosphere with beautiful décor that made the whole dining experience even more special. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Barcelona!
Amazing food. One of the most delicious restaurants my family ate at while in Barcelona. It was very convenient in terms of proximity to our hotel. All the wait staff we encountered spoke English, which made ordering easier. They have both Spanish and English menus. This restaurant was packed with tourists but we still managed to get seating right away. Very good tapas. The food was the highlight of the evening but the service was excellent as well. Comparable prices to restaurants with similar ambiance in the U.S.
Came here on the strong recommendation of a friend. Usually people recommend places and I am not impressed. This place really impressed me. I hope it wasn't because we had walked about 25k steps by the time we got there but because the place was so darn good! We got there around 630pm on a Monday evening got seated right away. When we left an hour later there was a line to get in. Amaya was our waiter and he was wonderful. We knew we wanted to try the following dishes: Razorback clams 5/5: I've only seen these in NY and had them stir fried. These were steamed and perfectly tender. Of the 3 pieces I ate, one had that funny tang at the end but the other two were great. Squeezed a little lemon on top and it was perfection! Creamy Asparagus and mushroom 3/5: Dunno why everyone says to order this. It was okay but nothing special to it. A good hit of garlic I suppose but nothing to write home about. Spanish omelette 5/5: It really tasted like a melt in your mouth scalloped au gratin. But the combination of tender potatoes, cream and light egg just melts in your mouth. Loved the little buttered tomatoe bread too to balance the "omelette". Amaya, our awesome waiter wanted to surprise us with his recommendations. They were: Suckling pig 4/5: I had wanted to try this and the first bite was disappointing too salty but when I added some of the orange sauce it balanced it out perfectly. Very tender but I wouldn't order it again. Prawn skewer 5/5: Wow. That's all there is to say. The prawn and calamari rings were so tender and the prawns were fresh and juicy. Cooked to perfection. Cod with "olivado" 5/5: This was the best dish by far. The fish was flakey tender and the cheese? with hint of tomatoes was all balanced to well. I thought the hubs was going to lick his plate! For dessert he ordered us the "torrija" which tasted like a combination of donut, cream, and creme brûlée. 5/5! The combination of flavors and textures in your mouth was sooooo good! We also had a half pitcher of sangria and some sparkling water. The ambiance is upbeat and even though it was crowded, it wasn't noisy. It's a very pretty space and fairly large. I would say this was one of my best meals ever. You need to come to this place!
Got this reco from a fellow Yelper. This was my favorite dining experience in Barcelona. Arrived at noon on a weekday with a party of 6 without reservations. The restaurant is quite large, so they were able to seat us since the locals seem to eat at 1 PM. Servers were very friendly and spoke quite a bit of English. They gave us a Catalan/Spanish Menu as well as an English menu. The servers mentioned that tables are available for 1.5 hours and then they ask you to leave. We had no problems with the timing as the food comes out quickly after ordering. The food - recommended without reservations Burnt Saint Teresa "torrija" - easily my favorite dessert on the trip, maybe the best overall dish. If a popover, cream puff, and a crème brûlée got together and had a baby, this dessert would be the result. Eggy-bready on the outside, cream filling, and a caramelized sugar crust on top. I saw some people post a picture of this dessert and label it "bread pudding". That's like posting a picture of the Sistine Chapel and calling it "paint on stone". "Cabreaos" style eggs - "angry" eggs - a bowl of shoestring fries + chile sauce + 2 sunny side up eggs - this is all cut up and mixed table-side. Eat it quick while it's still crispy. Grilled Razor Clams and Grilled Galician Clams - very fresh seafood, simply prepared. Cooked to perfection. Creamy mushrooms assortment - if you like mushrooms, you like this dish. Comes with an egg yolk that gets mixed in. Codfish with honey "aioli" - the fish has a bit of chew to it - maybe slightly underdone. Honey adds quite a bit of sweetness. Never had this pairing before and definitely worth trying. Recommended Chocolate with churros - 5 thin pieces of churro. The chocolate is one of the better ones we had on the trip - more chocolate flavor and very smooth (not a broken emulsion) Fried Mix - squid, cuttlefish, small fishes, padron pepper - the peppers look like shishitos, but they don't have any heat. Everything was cooked well, but I liked the small fish the best. These were ok - Lobster Rice - their version of paella? There were visible lobster shells on top. I prefer a more traditional paella. Visiting from out of country. This is a tapas restaurant. The food was good, we were seated outside after a 10 minute wait. There were quite a few people. The beef tenderloin was too raw for our liking and we asked to have it medium and they were nice about it. We tried lots of stuff and would recommend it. Just be prepared for the wait and ask for the English menu.
Food was excellent, but the service on the day of going was really non-existent from the time of waiting, to seating, and being served. The hostess had our party stand in the restaurant for a good 20 min after being called in ready only to realize our table wasn't going to be. Our server was new, day one on the job, at a very hectic spot which I empathize with. The selection of tapas and postres was well worth the wait though, and everything tasted great so would be back. I'm sure other experiences and future experiences could be better.
We had a lovely table upstairs and a very knowledgeable and helpful server. The food was excellent, we had tomato bread, sliced fried artichokes, and a spread, Brie, candied walnut and honey baguette. My wife topped it off with a crème brûlée bread pudding she loved with a cappuccino. Lovely place make sure you know the street names and number when looking as it is an unassuming facade. It's worth the wait if you have one.

Well fellow YELPERS, thanks for this recommendation!! I was looking for a Tapas restaurant walking distance to our place. This one showed promise. The 4 of us walked down to it. Easy to navigate. The line was LONG, 30 minute wait++. I went to put my name on the list and Miss Shirley. She got us in immediately, thanks!! We had Edwardo as our server, fantastic!!! The tapas were excellent!! The lamb tapa AMAZING!! The shellfish was so fresh and tasty. The wine list is excellent!! Fell in love with this restaurant...clean and wonderful decor!! read more

The sister restaurant to the famous Cervesaria Catalana this bar has inside seating and a large outdoor seating area. I found it the previous night while passing by and seeing the same happy face on the menu and figured it must be the same. Having ordered all seafood the previous night at Cervesaria, opted for a more veggie inspired meal. Baked cod with mayo and honey; very tender and moist, the honey was very mild but I think I prefer a savory seafood dish. Grilled asparagus and mushrooms were grilled perfectly the mushrooms had good texture and the right amount of salt. Since the artichokes weren't in season yet they didn't have them so I got fried eggplant. Sliced thinly, fried and topped with honey. Very good but if artichokes are in season get those instead. Fried calamari was nothing special. Just fried calamari rings they were a bit rubbery but maybe because they are thicker calamari. Sautéed assorted mushrooms with an egg yolk, these were pretty good. Broke the yolk then mixed it into the mushrooms and jus. They were also good. Of course I ended the meal with the Torrija crème de st. Teresa so good. Warm custard topped with a torched sugar top. Next time I want to try the crème de coco I thought it was chocolate pudding but now I understand it's a coconut flan. It seemed like an identical menu to Cervesaria Catalana. I highly suggest the seafood. Razor clams, garlic shrimp, grilled shrimp, huevos cabreads, fried artichokes, grilled octopus, and the Torrija crème de St. Teresa. read more

It's been a few days and I'm still daydreaming about the codfish with honey. The service was attentive and fast despite how busy the restaurant was. We snagged a table for 3 in the bar area with only a 15 minute wait. We tried shrimp, codfish, asparagus and mushrooms, bravas, and White sangria (Sangria de Cava). So delicious, I'll definitely be back! read more

Barcelona is weird. The city is both gorgeous and overly...almost disgustingly commercialized. So it's got both the wow factor and....a burger king in the same building. The food scene feels the same. If that somehow makes any sense. This place gives you the real wow factor. Get the shrimp. Get the honey cod. Get the ham. Get damn near everything except the crab salad on toast (no bueno). The massive line is worth it. Be patient. It has a reason both locals and tourists line up for hours. Hope you also get served by this tiny short little old man. He knows his stuff. Just ask him what's good and he will tell you. I ordered the crab toast on my own so that's my own damn fault but everything else he helped me order was amazing. Yea. Make some time and go here. And be patient. read more

Great place for tapas near Las Ramblas. Ordered an array of different types of tapas and they were all super yummy! I enjoyed each and every single one. The guy that served us is awesome. He is super efficient and the service super quick. Totally reminded me of the street restaurant in Hong Kong. I really enjoyed ordering tapas. It is like having dim-sum or dining at an izzakaya, you can order many dishes in small portion. There are good varieties here. And the seafood is quite fresh. Among the dishes I ordered, I really loved the Codfish with honey alioli, which the fish fillet was cooked smooth, moist and flavorful with a balanced sauce. The razor clam is meaty and fresh with olive oil sauces. The beef tenderloin was juicy and tender, although it would love the bread to be less crunchy but the jalapeño on top added a good flavor in contracts. The grilled cuttlefish was simple and traditional, yet it was grilled with good flavor and of fresh seafood taste. Overall, it was a very good dining experience. read more
Honestly this place is almost identical to cervesceria catalana just down the street, down to the menu and the quality of the foods. I think going to either would give you very similar experiences, although ciutat comtal has a larger outdoor space and smaller indoor space (vs cervesceria, which is the opposite). I even ordered the same thing here as in the cervesceria because they are my favorite tapas- grilled cuttlefish and the Iberian montaditos. Tasted exactly the same- really excellent. If you prefer more of an outdoors people watching experience, I would recommend ciutat. If you want to dine indoors, cervesceria. But honestly can't go wrong with either. read more

I now have a new favorite destination whenever I am visiting Barcelona. Ciutat Comtal is located in the heavily trafficked area by tourists, not too far away from the Plaça de Catalunya, which is the main artery where many of Barcelona's visitors first head to. I chose Ciutat Comtal because of two factors: one we were looking for authentic Spanish tapas served in a lovely setting, and two when I was able to use my Yelp app and search for what was ranked in the top ten in terms of restaurants according to my fellow Yelpers, Ciutat Comtal came out on top. Since the restaurant was so close in terms of walking distance from Las Ramblas, our entire party was sold on making the short walk out there. Thankfully, we arrived early enough to get a table for three on their first floor without any wait. It helped that we got here at about 7 p.m., which in Spanish time, was actually early for dinner time. Although they have an extensive dinner menu, all my party had to do was look at the "Tapas Del Dia" menu or the "Tapas of the Day" section of the menu to know what we wanted. Our first go round, we ordered their Beef Tenderloin with Foie, the Cod Fritters with Romesco Sauce, Grilled Jumbo Shrimp, Fried Calamari to wash down my meal I wanted something different than the atypical Sangria and our server suggested the Tinto de Verano, which was a play on the Sangria with a more fizzy twist. As we watched diners at other tables receiving their meals, my mother noticed a unique salad that passed us by and had to order it, it turned out to be the Seafood Cocktail Salad, which unfortunately was a real miss because it was literally combination of too many things, including an odd mozzarella cheese and tomato salad in addition to an immigration crab meat salad, a chicken salad, and tuna salad. Thankfully, there were four slices of their pan de coca con tomate to keep us satiated, which was their toasted flatbread with tomato, and a signature dish in Spanish cuisine. Our time at Ciutat Comtal was so enjoyable, as we never felt rushed despite the fact that the crowds started growing as the evening wore on. We were so enamored of our time at Ciutat Comtal that a second visit was in the horizon a mere two nights later, as we again were shopping around the Plaça de Catalunya area and the only thing that really piqued our interest was more of these well-prepared tapas dishes. So we made it back on our fourth night in Barcelona, and we got so lucky as during this night the place was packed but the hostess at the front remembered us from the evening before and sat us at a small table on their second floor almost immediately. This time, we ordered two servings of their Beef Tenderloins with Foie, Fried Cuttlefish "Andalusian Style", Grilled Shrimp, and their Grilled Asparagus and Mushrooms platter. We loved everything about our experience at Ciutat Comtal, from the food to the libations to the ambiance to the service. Clearly it's obvious as who else would eat the same place in such a city as vast and cultured as Barcelona in a mere three days? What we loved was that the menu was so varied, with their wide variety of tapas, in addition to menu items as unique as salads to baguette sandwiches. You better believe that Ciutat Comtal is a place that my family is going to make regular appearances at whenever we are in Barcelona, which may not be many times, but a place where at least one visit while we are in Barcelona is a must. It was a feast fit for royalty, tapas-style, as we loved every dish which came out piping hot and well-seasoned and presented with real flair. read more

Came here for linner (between lunch and dinner) and sat outdoors. Definitely order the honey glazed cod, probably the best I've had in spain. The rest of the tapas we got was pretty good, calamari, beef, and even our sangrias. This is a great place to chill and people watch. The waiter forgot our dessert order, but we were fine with it since we were too full anyway. Had a great time here! read more

Omg! If you want a good tapas place in Barcelona, you must come here! Whether you speak the language or not, you will get a fine dining experience without the huge price! I think it's best to come here with someone as you can taste a bigger variety, but overall, I enjoyed every bite I had here! My first dish was the cod with honey "allioli". Talk about mouthwatering! You taste the cod, which is so well cooked, but the honey allioli on top just adds to the delicate flavors of this fish. I always felt like cod was a meaty fish, but the allioli really softens the taste and makes you appreciate the flavors. Then there was the mushroom and asparagus. I find that in Spain, it's hard to find vegetable dishes, but luckily they had one here and it was fantastic! Drizzled with garlic, olive oil, and salt, I just kept wanting more of this dish (unfortunately, my stomach quickly reminded me that it was reaching capacity); however, capacity or not, there is always room for dessert! This leads me to the churros! Crisp, warm, and surprisingly not that oily. Dipping it into the warm, dark chocolate really makes this meal complete. My stomach literally made room so that I could devour the whole plate! Needless to say, I walked out very full and a little uncomfortable...haha...but that's what the walk was for afterwards! One of the best things after this meal, was that I could walk around the busy streets of Barcelona, checking out the shopping and just enjoying this city as I walked back to my hotel! read more
Ciutat Comtal is a massive, spacious restaurant offering an extensive menu of tapas from all over Spain! We tried a plate of Iberian Montaditos, or sliced bread with toppings, including Iberian ham, loin, chorizo, and Idiazabal cheese. From the salad selections, we had the Seafood Cocktail Salad (chilled shrimp, octopus, calamari, imitation crab) and "Greek salad" made of cheese, tomatoes, and olives. The Cabreaos-style Eggs (or "angry eggs") was a unique dish made of fried potato sticks topped with two sunny-side up eggs and paprika oil, and everything was mixed up into a delicious creamy, crispy mixture right at the table. Seafood abounded on the menu as well, and we had Al Ajillo Shrimps (shrimp in red garlic oil) and Grilled Galician Cockles (similar to clams). But some of my favorite seafood dishes included the Grilled Razor Clams; Grilled Red Prawns, Clams, and Mussels; and the best-selling Codfish with Honey "Allioli," a tender, meaty fillet of cod topped with a creamy, slightly sweet honey sauce, baked to form a crusty outer layer. Finally, we had the Creamy Mushrooms, made of assorted fried mushrooms with an egg yolk at the center. All of the small plates were tasty and great for sharing and pairing with drinks, and the service and value here were definitely on point! read more

Recommended by a friend as their favorite meal in Barcelona! This place did not disappoint, from the amazing food to the wonder ambiance. We managed to beat some of the crowd by coming early (7 PM) and we're seated after 15 mins or so. What we ordered: * Spanish Omelette (5/5) - So fluffy and the bread that came with it was great! * Mixture of Asparagus and Mushrooms (5/5) - Great simple dish. The veggies were cooked perfectly and seasoned lightly. * Beef Tenderloin Hot Montaditos (4/5) - We got two of these and one had a decent size of meat that was tender while the other had a small end price that was a bit chewy. Could be great depending on the piece you get. * Chicken and Cured Ham Croquettes (5/5) - Amazing! Nice crispy outside and delicious filling. The tapas did come out pretty slow, but they were all amazing. I would definitely recommend coming here. read more

Our first meal in Barcelona got us started on the right track! How can it be this good?! The value is great, flavors are great, and even though it's really busy, the service was great. Our server was a gentleman probably in his 40s or 50s, super appreciative that we were trying to use our Spanish learnings from way back in high school. He guided us through the menu and insisted on a few of his favorites, which were amazing. Clean, fast, fresh, and goooood. Worth a visit for sure. My faves were the huevos estrellad (as so requested by the server), pan con tomate, solomillo ternera, calamarcitos malagueña, and churros con chocolate. They do have an English menu if you can't swing the Espanol. :) The interior of the building was beautiful, clean, and inviting. I felt like I was meeting part of the soul of Barcelona in there. Tapas for brunch... and lots of it! That's what we ended up having before heading out to the Basílica de la Sagrada Família and Ciutat Comtal (Ciudad Condal) was the place we decided to go to. There were already plenty of people when we arrived, but we were prepared to wait... even with empty stomachs. Tapas are snacks in Spanish cuisine served in small plates or portions. It was a delight to have tried pintxos for the first time the other day, but we've had tapas before so we pretty much knew what was in store. The Andalusian-Style White Anchovies were divine. Simply prepped with olive oil, they were so tasty. We wanted the Malagueña-Style Baby Squids, but they were only available as part of the Assorted Fried Seafood because their inventory was limited. Of course, the bodies and tentacles of the squids got top billing, but the anchovies and the rest of the supporting casts would not be outdone. Everything on that plate was seasoned and fried to perfection. We had an extra dose of the fried anchovies as they were part of the Assorted Tapas, too. The grilled prawns were our favorite as the heads were very flavorful. It wasn't all seafood that day as we also tried the Beef Tenderloin Montaditos. The two pieces of grilled-to-order medallions were delicious. We started the day on a high note thanks to a pleasant brunch at Ciutat Comtal. There were a few others on our radar, but we were very satisfied with our choice. Service was very friendly and attentive eventhough the place was very busy. Ambiance is fantastic! Waitress was very accommodating about making our order keto. However, the food was bland. The garlic shrimp had very burnt garlic. It was more of a fun experience. I wouldn't come back for the food. read more
