We visited this spot because we stayed at the hotel it's located in. It's a rooftop bar that you can only access by one of the three elevators for the building (as marked - it's the standalone). The food was great! I loved the Brussel Sprouts and French Fries. The Brussel Sprouts were sweet, savory, and well cooked while the fries were addictive - meaty and crispy. They had a good amount of seating for being a relatively small space - both tables and patio furniture. If the music was a bit quieter, it would be easier to converse with those around you. The setting is great. Take the hotel elevator to the roof and enjoy a beautiful setting. The bartender was great. She was very attentive. The food tasted good as well. My biggest issue is the portion size and prices. For $16 you get two shimp tacos. Nothing else. No garnishes, no side, served with nothing. No sauces at table. This was a bummer. I was hoping for a bit more here. We dropped a chunk of change at the city bar, but sadly our family returned to our room and we were still hungry. Brotha Whiskey is a plus. The owner was giving samples, and the whiskey is delicious. The live dj was jamming, but I'd say it was slightly too loud, thankfully during our time on the roof, it was turned down slightly. We came during happy hour and it was very packed. There is only one elevator that takes you all the way up to the roof, or you can take the stairs. Once up top we were able to find seats, but many seats do not have any coverings so be aware on what time of day you go if you are sensitive to the sun. You order at the bar and from there they will bring the food to where you are seated. We did have to wait a while in line to get our orders in, but once your order is in things run much faster. The drinks were great, and the food was made to order. We got the fries, salad and tempura. Everything tasted great, though I would prefer less salad dressing so recommend just asking for it on the side. They do have a water pitcher readily available to grab yourself. I would definitely try this place again, when the weather isn't as hot. read more

I stumbled upon CityBar while looking for rooftop bar in DC. While this venue was not what I thought from the website, it's still a cute spot in the city for good views and a quick drink. The bar staff was a bit all over the place, and slow the serve even with no one really at the bar. They were engaging in person conversation and took a while to acknowledge us. There was also a wait on my drink because they didn't have pineapple juice but the venue had just open before we arrived. However, my fries came quick and were fresh. The veins from the roof are very nice and unobstructed. This is a good spot for a quick hang with friends or a nice first date if you are looking to have conversations. Love the roof top views but that's about it. The sign as you enter lets you know to order at the bar & the staff will bring everything to your table. We ordered 3 drinks & 2 apps at the bar & paid upfront. After 30mins, we went back up to the bar to ask if we could please collect our drinks & confirm whether or not our food was coming. The bartender told me she had wondered where we'd disappeared to...we'd move 20ft, still in view of the bar...the whole rooftop is visible from the bar! She didn't know the drinks & kept having to read the ingredient from the menu. Nor did she measure anything or make them correctly. They were not good cocktails, at all. The food was ok, but nothing special & cold by the time we got it. Utensils showed up last & they didn't bring enough sets for all three of us. Updated review: I decided to give CityBar a second chance. Another beautiful day, but there are still serious issues with dirty glasses and food left on tables well after patrons have left. These was more concerns about the credit card receipts left on the table than cleaning up what could be a health code violation. Original: This rooftop bar is a great palace for happy hour, but service is slow and the food will arrive lukewarm. I am not sure if they are understaffed or just feel it's easier to clean-up dirty plates and glasses until after the rush. Drinks are a little higher than most DC bars, but you are getting a view of the Washington Monument. It clears out after the Federal employees had a drink and head home in the Metro. read more

I'm giving this place a solid 5 cause the view is beautiful. It's peaceful in its own way after a long day in the city. My kids loved it and the waiter/bartender/everything deserves more then the 20% that's added to the tab. He had to manage it all and make the drinks. They have misting fans and a wonderful garden with flowers and veggies they use. There's a huge ice water dispenser so you can enjoy the view and not feel like you ha e to buy a drink. If I was a bar, I would be CityBar: beautiful views, full of potential, but a complete and total mess. ...so, while I can relate to CityBar on a spiritual level, I wouldn't come back here. This place is nasty, guys. Like, violating health code nasty. Tell me the last time you went to a bar, and to your left were five stacks, ten cups high of empties. I've worked in the industry. I know that shit ain't right. You can't leave towers of glasses stacked up on your bar like that. Put 'em in the sink. On top of the cluttered bar, all of the tables at this place are covered in food. We were there for two hours - I didn't see someone wipe down a single table the entire time we were there. It's gross! Just gross! Even I wipe my shit up. At CityBar, the prices are made up and your call doesn't matter. First round was a single Grey Goose vodka cranberry and a single tequila lemonade. Rang in at $25. Next round, same order, only this time the bartender pours us doubles and the tab is $22. Pretty sure they've got Tito's or whatever well junk they pour wrapped up in a Grey Goose label, because there is no way that drink had Grey Goose in it - the taste was noticeable. I chased the subpar drinks with some soggy waffle fries that were served to us on our dirty table, without napkins or utensils, accompanied by mustard in packets. Classy. I'm so surprised this place was so bad! Its as beautiful as the photos. They grow their own herbs. They have big fans and a decent amount of seating- all as-advertised. The SW area (outside of waterfront) definitely could use more in the way of restaurants and happy hour venues. The rooftop bar of the Hyatt is a welcome addition. I had a meeting in the area and someone suggested giving this spot a try. The only other options nearby are the Holiday inn bar and 21st amendment, which I feel cater more towards an older demographic/government worker. The sun was blazing but the views were great. A band was breaking down their set up but I could see this as a perfect spot for live music. I went on a Thursday evening and there was a good amount of folks, but not overwhelming. Happy hour is from 4:30-8pm, and it's about $2 off cocktails ($12-14 regular price). I got a frosé which was pretty good. The crab cakes were a very decent size and good, not a lot of breading but it was the spicy aioli that really gave it the flavor. The sliders were small and a little dry. If you have a meeting in the SW office area and want to meet with colleagues to grab a quick bite, I would definitely recommend this place. I don't think I would go out of my way to come here if I wasn't already in the area, it's a little pricey and I've seen more impressive cocktail lists in Navy Yard, Eastern Market, etc with more ambiance and a livelier scene. read more

I tried the Pisco Sour Picante ($13) featuring a spray decoration of the Washington, DC flag and habanero syrup, this beverage is delightful with a spicy kick. The snacks all looked tasty but my mom loves ceviche (something we didn't have as often in the Midwest) so we opted for the "ceviche mixto". $16 is steep for an appetizer so we considered it a special treat to celebrate the start of summer. The breeze alone on this rooftop makes this a romantic spot for two lovers to cheers a great night over classy drinks. The rooftop is on the smaller end so don't expect a vast Vegas style rooftop. It's a more intimate affair. It's the perfect rooftop to oversee our nations capital's beauty. They have such unique cocktails. My favorite was their jalapeño strawberry margarita. It's rimed with a beautiful pinkish sugar rim. The drink has jalapeño extracts that adds a hint of spicy flare. The fresh strawberries add a tart flavor. read more

While this rooftop space appears small and is a bit difficult to access (i.e., there is only one elevator in the lobby of the Hyatt Place Hotel that will access the PH level where the bar is located), the view is decent, the staff are attentive, the bathrooms (also on the roof) are clean, the space fits a surprisingly large number of people and the prices are reasonable. The angus burger sliders were surprisingly tasty, and the duo of waffle fries are largely portioned. There is no covered seating, so make sure to stop by on a day with nice weather. Fantastic! City Bar has an amazing atmosphere, great views, and delicious food and drink. Once you step off the elevator you are immediately let out onto a small area that leads to the rooftop. As soon as I looked out I could feel the fun atmosphere and started to relax - this would be the perfect place to stop after work or to meet friends for a relaxed night out. Their cocktails are light and tasteful! If you're like me and can't stand a glass with too much ice, you may want to ask them for about 1/2 of what they usually do. I tried a drink with some sort of rum and orange liquor (and other ingredients I can't remember) and I loved it! I had also tried a White Wine and actually much preferred the cocktail. I was able to try the calamari, the fish tacos (mahi), and the french fries. All were delicious! The fries come with three flavors: sweet potato, regular, and truffle. The calamari comes with some sort of red pepper aioli type of dip (if I remember correctly). Both dishes weren't anything unique or unexpected, but they were still fried and seasoned wonderfully. You get three tacos when you order the fish tacos and they are flavorful and filling. Everything is very light and it wasn't difficult to eat (sometimes the reason I avoid ordering tacos!). This is the perfect summer dish to have with one of their cocktails while sitting on a rooftop enjoying the scenes of DC and a drink. read more

I came here on Friday for happy hour with my BF and some friends. I had heard of this place when it first opened and was excited to try it out. This place is located on the top floor of the Hyatt and has an amazing view of the city with a nice cool breeze. It also like the location because it is not quite as congested as other parts of the city. The bartenders and staff are courteous, however service is a bit slow now due to the fact this is a new establishment and the bartenders were still being trained. The cocktails were very tasty and the ingredients are top notch. I tried the Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita, Old Cuban, and the Pisco Sour Picante and they were all delicious and refreshing. I did not get the chance to try any of their food, however people nearby said it was pretty good. I would definitely like to come back before summer ends. I hope they are able to speed up drink times and maybe expand the food menu. Overall this place has great for just starting up and has amazing potential. read more

Im so glad i found this cool rooftop bar by SW DC and made it a part of my summer rooftop bucket list i came here with a friend to enjoy some DC rooftop view over some drinks and foods of course. They have happy hour until 7pm. We got there 30mins after 7 so we had the regular menu. Foods are worth every $ though, they were all tasty! We got the sliders and calamari and we both got cocktails. They have check-in deals from yelp so we got 1 free appetizer which is really nice. We decided to get the chicken lollipop which comes in a half dozen chicken legs with blue cheese, soo yum! Plus we got a good seat with a nice view just perfect for sunset. This rooftop bar is located inside the Hyatt Place. I liked the ambiance and will definitely come back. You guys should check this place and don't forget to check-in yelp to get freebies cause who doesnt like that, right? read more

This bar is underrated. Although it could benefit from being at another location, it offers a relaxed ambiance where you can enjoy great drinks & cocktails at a decent price. Service was okay despite previous negative reviews, they kept coming to my table and asking if everything was fine or whether we needed anything else. I'd say it was hands-on service. On the other hand, the food isn't something I'd be coming back to. I didn't try a lot from the menu so don't take my word 100%. However, the drinks definitely make up for it. We waited forever to order and receive our drinks and food. Only half of our food arrived when it finally did. It took forever to get our check. It just took forever to get anything from our server even after the crowd had slowed down. Such a buzz kill when you are in such a nice environment. Happy hour prices are great. Food is pretty good. This part of DC is pretty dead outside of working hours. However, some friends and I were headed to an IMAX movie at the Air and Space museum and wanted a nearby happy hour beforehand. CityBar fit the bill. As others have said, it might not be a destination bar - but it's certainly a fun, relaxing, and comfortable place to unwind if you're in the area. Some specific things I enjoyed: the frose (frozen rose) was fantastic and I got a double vodka tonic for only $10 (pretty reasonable for the area: cocktails were $10 during happy hour, $10-14 or so outside of it). There was a good crowd of people there, but there was still plenty of space/comfortable places to sit. Live music was a nice touch. The bartenders/servers provided excellent service (I was served almost immediately both times) and were very friendly. I appreciated the misters to cool off. The view is pretty generic DC - lots of office buildings, the capitol, etc. - but it was pretty to watch the sun start to go down. If you're in the area and want a break from jam-packed happy hours, give this place a try. I'll be back! read more
