    Dog and Cat aisle
    Lou C.

Sorry to see how City Pets has becoming... This was not for me. I remember I came here a decade ago (now I remember why I hasn't been back). The employees never pays attention to whomever comes in. I was greeted by an ancient soda vending machine from last century. There were lots of customers. Most of them wore masks. I have to assume all employees were vaccinated because they didn't wear masks. I believe this store started with selling cat and dog merchandise, along with fish and birds. It is now shrunk to just half aisle in the corner of the store. The shelves are fairly empty. I only found one type of cat food and few dog food. I looked up and down several times for something to buy. I found litter box deodorizer. I grabbed one and proceeded to take a tour of store before check out. A giant cage is located in the back of the store. There were all kinds of exotic pets, not just birds in smaller cages in there. Fish tanks filled up most of store space. Lots of employees working to feed and clean the tanks. It baffles me as why those Asian employees shouting at each other. It was very unprofessional in front of customers. They should use walkie talkie if they don't want to walk up to each other. When I completed my browsing at store, I proceeded to cash register. There were 3 people waiting and one of them negotiating with an employee for a long time. A female employee walked to cashier looked like she was gonna open another register. But she didn't even pay attention to us waiting. There were no social distancing marker. Another customer breathing on my neck. I've had it. I put the item in the shelf and stormed out of the store.

I got my 210 gallon reef ready tank from City pets over 10 years ago and it is still going strong. I love the shop and the helpful staff. City Pets always has the hard to find freshwater fish I'm looking to add to my tank. Been going here for over 10 years and will continue my patronage.

    Nice tank

The owners and employees were very helpful. I was able to buy fish food and fishes as needed.

This store is great for fish and comes with FREE fish lice!! I've been on the hunt for more fancy goldfish, the bigger the better, and hoped to support a local business rather than importing. I'd read good things about City Pets so decided the hour plus drive was worth it. Boy was I in for a roller coaster of emotions. Walking in I felt like a kid in a candy store there were SO MANY fish. I started looking from tank to tank picking favorites and ignoring any bottom sitters and bloody fins assuming it was due to over crowding. After seeing all the tanks a few times I slowed down to inspect the fins, body shapes and how well the fish that caught my attention were swimming. That's when I spotted the first one and then that's all I could see. Every goldfish/koi tank sprinkled with lice. So if you want lice 10/10 would recommend. (Took this picture to show a friend later realized you can even see a lice or two on it)

City Pets has a HUGE selection of saltwater and freshwater fish, so if you're looking for an addition to your aquarium, you'll likely find a good candidate here. Most of their fish seemed healthy, but I'm not a fish expert so I can't be sure. The tanks were all pretty clean, and the fish pretty active. It was well-organized, too. Like some other reviewers have noted, the service isn't too great, but if you can manage to catch a store rep's attention, you'll get what you need. In the back, there are several cages of birds like lovebirds, parakeets, cockatiels, and a few more exotic types. I saw a baby umbrella cockatoo the last time I was there, and I think several young cockatiels as well. I went to this store specifically to look for aquarium decor, so that's what I'm rating them on. Unfortunately, they didn't have anything too special. I've seen better selections at Petsmart. Just your run-of-the-mill pirate ships, treasure chests, and dragons here -- all dusty, too. Oh well! So, in conclusion: great selection of fish. Bad selection of aquarium decorations.

City Pets is a great alternative to the huge chain pet stores. They have an array of saltwater and freshwater fish and supplies for your tank - they have 300 tanks of freshwater and 4000 gallons of saltwater fish and corals. If you're just getting started or have been at it for years, they have knowledgeable staff members that can help you with any variety of questions you may have. In addition, you can purchase smaller animals like mice, rats, hamsters, rabbits and the like here as well as pick up all of the supplies you need. City Pets has a nice selection of birds and reptiles too and can help you outfit them to give them a happy place to live in your home. If you're a pet lover and want to pick up some goodies for your scaly or furry friends, City Pets is your one stop solution.

Horrible service if you're not Asian. Older gentlemen who works the fish area doesn't know English. Many better choices around town.

You walk in and they have tanks and tanks of exotic fishes, a few reptiles/snakes, some bunnies, etc. I was here because we were looking for some koi fish for our outdoor pond - I called a few times and they gave me some odd answers every single time. The first time they said they had kois and they couldn't give me the price cause it depended on size and if they were domestic or imported. The 2nd time, he said he was all out. I came in that same day and they had a tank full of them - he makes you pick the ones you like and determines a price as you pick them. Apparently the bright gold and colorful ones are more expensive cause they're imported from Singapore. The really large ones can be up to $400. I bought 1 since we already bought 11 that morning from a distributor - smaller but more colorful than what we got for $10 each. The smaller ones range from $6 I believe to $25 for the imported ones. Their tanks were fairly clean and the store was cleanish - though we spotted a jumper fish who tried to commit suicide on the floor. We informed the lady and she picked him up and threw him back into the aquarium. Our pond was really green so we came back here for some pond bacteria to try to get rid of the algae. I also bought some algae eaters - 3 for $10/ a piece. They gave us $5 off for 2 different purchases on 2 different days. The family was literally in the back room, which is how I know this was a family run business. Hopefully our fish survive and we can come back for some more colorful ones! Some advice to the owners/staff - your mask doesn't protect me and isn't helpful when you don't wear it or wear it under your chin! Please use it when talking to customers! Seems like this store is pretty popular and there were lots of customers when we came both days! We will probably be back at some point for more fish!

I have walked in many times and observed the employees gathered in conversations opposed to greeting customers. On my most recent visit, a 32-pack of Friskies was displayed with a $19.99 price tag underneath it. When I checked out, it rang up at $26. I pointed out the discrepancy, and instead of addressing it right away, I was left waiting while other customers were checked out. There were two employees present, and it seemed that one could have assisted me while the other continued working the register. Instead, I stood there waiting, unsure what was going to happen. Eventually, the employee who rand me up brought up a 24-pack that apparently matched the advertised price. The whole situation seemed to be an inconvenience for the employees, so I ultimately said, "Never mind." Then, I mentioned that the Pet Supermarket on Richmond, which recently closed, would have simply honored the displayed price. Jennifer responded, "We're not that store." My reply was, "No, you definitely are not." I shop here to buy food for animals that depend on me, and good customer service still matters. Unfortunately, this store consistently feels indifferent toward its customers. Pet Supermarket, you closed the wrong store. Time to hire people who actually look like they enjoy their jobs at a pet store.

I have a lot of cats to feed so I go to a lot of pet stores, overpriced or not. If it was cheaper, I'd come here regularly, just for a little variety. If you are into variety for your babies, and trying different products, would you like coming here. There are good and bad things about it, but because of price I couldn't give it more than three.
