These guys really saved me. It was 85 degrees outside and my nearest store to buy boxes was way too far to walk in that heat. I was also moving out the next day and really worried about the ordering boxes for delivery and them not showing up. I placed the order online and called to confirm timing. They assured me that the boxes would arrive that day and they did! Within only a few hours, the boxes, bubble wrap, and tape were at my door. Very reliable, very reasonably priced, amazing customer service, and overall a great experience. I will definitely be using this company again and recommending them to all of my friends that are moving. I also liked the products that they carry- sturdy boxes, the bubble wrap had perforated lines to rip at so you didn't need to cut, and the tape was good quality. read more

After multiple calls and no boxes, he FINALLY answer to tell me they had cancelled my delivery. They never told me this. Until 6 hours AFTER the ordinary scheduled emergency box delivery. Great boxes terrible service Late on the drop off, when I called for a pick up they only have three hour time frames which is ok but then they don't show I called and they say they're going to call right back and never do. This happened two times in a row. Friday night and Saturday night. After getting angry they came Sunday morning and said they're sorry and would give a 10% discount but never did even after following up twice asking about the refund. Ugh. Why did I not check Yelp before ordering from City Moving Boxes? I have been trying to get ahold of ANYONE from their team for a week now, and cannot reach them via email or phone number. Their site doesn't actually work and you can't access any information on your account or your orders placed. HORRIBLE, CARELESS "SERVICE". They took my order for delivery yesterday. They missed my three hour delivery window entirely without so much as a word. (Oh, and incidentally, City Moving Boxes - since the window is the time you are supposed to make delivery, we clients need to sit around and WAIT for you.) When I emailed to see what their ETA was = they said they were "having problems with their truck" (what?) and they would deliver today. I said - "How early? I need the stuff by 9 so I can pack. My moving truck is coming at 1PM." They said they would deliver between 9 and 10. After playing email tag with them ALL DAY today, hearing various increasingly improbable excuses, they tell me at 1PM they will deliver the boxes around 4PM. They are useless and non-communicative. Pros -- Slightly cheaper than their competition. Who doesn't love the idea of reusable boxes on a dolly to make moving easier? Cons -- No one over 20 seems to work at this place. They miss their delivery times, then don't respond to e-mails and phone calls about pick up either. Tip: If you want to move as cheaply as you can then you may want to look into this outfit, but know you will pay in the energy spent getting them to respond. read more

Pretty perfect experience. Ordered about ~60$ worth of boxes and two tapes at 11AM on a sunday, the guy was at my door about an hour later. The boxes themselves are good-enough quality, nothing special. The prices are competitive, especially for the non-box material. I think their tape is less than $2 and when I ran out and went next door to buy another roll, the hardware store was selling the same tape for $4. How else would you lug giant moving boxes to your apartment in NYC if not being delivered?? read more

We received our boxes within the time window provided and were happy to receive them. The person who delivered was also real nice and helped to bring them into the building. That's where the good service ended. I emailed three times for them to pick up the empty moving bins from my new apartment. Twice I called, over and over, until someone picked up the phone and twice I spoke to an actual person to schedule for the pick up. Twice I rearranged my schedule to be here for them to pick up the bins. And twice nobody showed up! I'm sitting here looking at 35 big moving bins still in my hallway over two weeks later. I would save yourself the hassle of dealing with this company and go ahead and order boxes from somewhere else. I initially liked the idea of re-usable more sturdy boxes that they offer for rental. I thought the price was reasonable and that the free delivery was a bonus. On the day of my delivery I had selected a 6-9pm drop-off. I waited around and it wasn't until 10:30pm that the guy showed up. He claimed that there was traffic and that is why he was late. Luckily he was kind enough to carry the boxes up the stairs for me which I appreciated because those suckers are heavy. I had called the next day to let them know that I was unhappy about the delivery that was out of the time frame and asked for a manager to call me back. I have called back 3 separate times because I had not heard back from anyone and each time I am told that a manager will call me back. Still no call from anyone. I called two days ago to arrange a pick up for yesterday night and no one showed up. I called this morning and it seems that there was no pick up even arranged for me, how lovely. I scheduled a pick up for tomorrow and asked again for a manager to call me. They assured me that someone will come which I hope is the case and that again a manager will call me back. We ordered boxes on Wednesday afternoon for a Friday morning delivery, and both took off work today to start packing. We're on a tight schedule and don't have time to mess around. Despite the mixed reviews, we figured 48 hours would be enough time for them to get the order processed and delivered on time. Not so. 10 minutes before the delivery window was about to end, we got a dismissive call from some guy to say there was a 'problem' with the truck and they would have to deliver late tonight or tomorrow morning. No apology, no real explanation. After reading everyone else's horror stories about promised re-delivery times, we decided to cut our losses, cancel and get a refund. We are now paying more money to get boxes from a local storage facility, a couple of extra wasted hours, but we don't want to risk losing an entire day because of someone's incompetence and poor customer service. I'm getting ready to move again so I checked these guys out as I had a good experience before. I was a little disappointed to see the ratings had gone down recently and thought maybe they had gone downhill, and almost went with others, but decided to take a chance on a small order. I placed an order last night at 10 pm requesting delivery today but by no means expecting it. So I was really pleasantly surprised to get a call at 10 am today from the delivery guy who said he was a half hour away. All in all it was a super quick and convenient service. Granted I haven't tried their rental boxes, but for my smallish (about 10) cardboard box order, they were excellent. The prices are a little more expensive than Uline, but shipping/delivery is absolutely free while Uline was charging $100 just for delivery. read more

This is my second time using City Moving Boxes, and I've had a great experience both times. My first time was in 2012 and everything was perfect - same day on-time delivery and good prices. This time around, I was a bit nervous to use them again when I saw the mixed reviews on Yelp. My experience was great, however. They were on time (arriving about 30 minutes before the end of the 3 hour delivery window that I chose), courteous, and everything was delivered properly and as requested. I ordered boxes at 9:45 this morning for a 12-3 window. At 3pm when no one showed up I called and emailed. I finally received a call back saying they were busy and would be here between 5-8. I cancelled my plans for the day to wait around as I had to be home to get the boxes or they would have no way of getting into my building. It is now 9:25 and still no sign of them. Ordered one set of boxes. I was charged for two over a month ago. They still will not refund me the money. I've been calling almost every day and had to go as far as to file a complaint with the BBB and my bank. Second order they simply did not deliver half the set. So they also owe me a refund for that. Told me delivery would be at 12 and did not come until 7pm I had to call out of work because I had to stay and wait for them. They could not careless about delivery times or customer service. I had a terrible experience with City Moving Boxes. I made an order for several large and medium moving boxes and some packing tape. I made sure to be there during the full delivery window and indicated that they should call upon arrival and not leave with the doorman. They never showed up at all. At the end of the delivery window, I called to see what was going on, and it was clear they did not even try to deliver. They said their delivery person was all the way downtown (I was living uptown) and that they could only get there later in the day. I had a tight timeline for my move, and that definitely didn't work for me. They said they would refund my money, but they never did. They weren't even apologetic. I e-mailed and called to follow up multiple times. They kept saying they would refund me "tomorrow", but they never did. The prices are totally reasonable; though, I will always be shocked at how much moving supplies cost in general considering they offer only a few hours of function. And when it came to the 3 hour window, the guy actually showed up 15 minutes early! You don't see that with most "3 hour windows" in the city. So all this is fine and dandy. I needed boxes for moving, and a friend pointed me to City Moving Boxes as they have fairly priced box-sets and make the delivery process easy. When you order you can choose the day and a window of a few hours for delivery. Once I read the small print I was bummed as they make it clear they only deliver to your front outside door, and not your apartment door. This was a problem for me since I had a 6 floor walkup.. but the order was placed and I figured I'd deal somehow. The guy called when he was outside my apt, and when I met him downstairs he asked if I needed help. Before I could say anything he goes "Well if I'm going to help, it has to be fast" because of his idling truck. With that he grabbed ALL of the boxes (heavy as shit), and started sprinting up my stairs, all the way to my floor. He literally ran so fast that I couldn't catch up, and he left so fast I didn't have time to tip him. I've used City Moving Boxes for a couple of moves in the past few years and didn't have any issue with getting my order. They came on time and the convenience was great. So I was curious why there were so many unfavorable reviews on yelp. Until I placed my order this past weekend and experienced firsthand with their latest customer service. I placed my order Friday early afternoon online. I requested a 7-10PM delivery time for that night (because their website says same day delivery). Fast forward to Friday evening. 7-10PM comes and goes and there is no notification on the status of my order. I give them 30 minutes leeway before getting frustrated. By 11, I give up and call the number listed on the site and get a voicemail. Their voicemail says that I should get my order in the requested delivery time unless they call or email. Nope. None of that. So I leave a voicemail and go to bed angry. Saturday morning I get a phone call. No apology from the person on the other line. The person says they can deliver any time that day until 5PM, but I tell them I won't be home all day (THATS WHY I REQUESTED A FRIDAY EVENING DELIVERY). They then offer the option of giving me the first delivery slot Sunday morning between 7-10AM, so I accepted that. I'm moving in a couple weeks and need boxes asap. I don't have a car to drive to Home Depot and buy boxes, and I don't have the patience to go to liquor stores or Key Food and ask for used/dirty boxes. Fast forward to Sunday morning. I wake up early on a Sunday morning, dress up, and wait for these damn boxes. Surprise surprise. 7-10AM comes and goes and again, no call or email telling me my order will arrive at another time. I'm pissed off at this point. I was planning on packing that weekend, and how am I supposed to pack if I don't have my damn boxes?! So again, I call, no one picks up, and again I leave an angry voicemail asking if I'm ever getting my damn boxes and if not let me know and I'll make other arrangements. I get a call back immediately again, and no apology again, but the person on the other line was letting me know my boxes would be there in about 45 minutes (11AM). I am cranky, tired, lacking sleep, and just want my damn boxes so I can finally start packing. 1055AM - I get a call from the delivery guy. I got my damn boxes and I can finally pack. +5 stars for convenience. -5 stars for customer service/lack of communication. If you are faced with the choice to use this company or Juggleboxes, like I was, GO WITH JUGGLEBOXES. If this situation had not happened to me, I would think my review was written by competitors. That is how ridiculous my experience with City Moving Boxes has been. Things started off okay. I rented plastic moving boxes from them with little problem. They arrived with little problem, albeit 20 minutes after the scheduled 7-10 a.m. delivery window. Getting my boxes picked up, however, has proven to be a comedy of errors. My first pick-up attempt was yesterday morning, from 7-10 a.m. Come 10 a.m., no one shows up. I call. I'm told that they'll call me back, since they have to get in touch with the dispatcher. I wait. 25 minutes later. I still don't get a call. I call back. The drivers are very behind, I'm told. Seeing as I made plans for after 10 a.m., I asked that the delivery be rescheduled. I'm told they will come pick up the boxes that evening between 8 - 11 p.m. So I wait again. No one comes. At 12:40 a.m., I call and say that I'm going to sleep. I don't get a phone call back the next morning. So, I call again, at 10 a.m. They're very sorry, I'm told. They can come pick up my boxes this evening between 7 - 10 p.m. She assures me that the pick up drivers will not be late. It's 10:40 p.m. now. Here my boxes sit, still in my apartment. No phone call from the pick up drivers or anything. This will be the third pick up attempt in which they failed to show up. The third time that I have sat at home waiting for these people. I have never had an experience quite like this one. It seems like a complete and utter joke and yet...this is actually happening. Worst customer service ever. Stay away!! read more

PRO: Two stars are for their products- the rental boxes themselves are excellent and make moving easier- no wasting time taping boxes together, no crushed boxes and broken things, no trash at the end! The dollies work really well and make moving the bins around much easier. The bins themselves are heavy though, even when empty so be careful how you pack them! CONS: The three missing stars are for the delivery/pick up service. I should have listened to the other reviewers and gone with Juggleboxes instead. Being the total cheapskate I am though I opted to save a few bucks since the City Moving Boxes package was a bit cheaper. Ordered online and thought it was weird that you type in your own delivery window but did it anyway. Opted for 12-3 the next day and checked the "Leave with doorman" option. When I got home from work all ready to pack....no boxes. I called but their office had closed. I had just drifted off to dreamland at about 11:30pm when my cell phone rang and jolted me awake. Oh really? You want to deliver them now? I must have sounded annoyed because the driver said "ok how about tomorrow. That's better for us anyway". Since I had already wasted a night that I could have spent packing, I said ok. The next day when I got home from work the boxes were there. No problem. The move went well and we rushed to unpack most of them for the Thursday box pick up. I called Thursday morning to confirm and surprise! They had no record of my pick up. I told her I had the pick up date confirmed in an email but that didn't seem to make a difference to her. I had taken the day off of work to be there for the pick up so I had to reschedule for Saturday. She gave me a window between 8-10. I made sure to ask "AM or PM" since I knew I would be tired from moving and wanted to sleep in for a change. She clarified PM. This wasn't really a huge deal to me since I could now take my time unpacking the last few boxes during the day on Saturday. Flash forward to 9am on Saturday and my doorbell rings. It's the box guy. You've got to be kidding me. Of course since I thought I had the whole day I wasn't ready and had a few straggling boxes left to unpack. He said he'd come back tomorrow (Sunday) between 8-11. Sunday at 11am I had enough. I called at 11:20 and was told they were behind and could they come pick up on Tuesday?!? No way man. I had to get a little cross with the guy on the phone. He said he'd call his driver and call me back in 5 minutes. To his credit he called me back right away and said they'd be here in 30 minutes. It's almost an hour later and I'm still waiting. Use these guys if you have TONS of time to sit around and wait for pick up. Don't use these guys if you are a normal human being with a job and things to do. read more

I was ready to give this place 5 stars the first time I ordered 7 boxes from them plus a mattress cover and some tape. They were on time and nice and had my order correct. I received my order with free delivery and within the time slot I gave them the same day! I tried to order the 2nd time around, this time I only needed 2 more boxes and they called to tell me that there's a delivery charge on the 2nd time of purchase if the order was under 20$...ok. ....well that was fine but then they told me that couldn't make it to my neighborhood within my 3 hour time slot...ok..well when can you come then? ...the answer was a little vague and they told me they'll try their best. I thought this service was great initially, as they delivered many boxes same-day for my upcoming move. Fast-forward a few months and I recommend them to my old roommate for some boxes she may soon need and placed an order for her to show her how fast they show up. Then they cancelled my order because it did not meet the minimum. Apparently the no minimum only applies once to a specific address, which is insane for New York City. I literally don't even live in that apartment anymore - I live across the country, and they would not accommodate my old roommate because she lives in my old apartment. This is the response I received: "Hello, All subsequent orders/deliveries within Manhattan(south of 125th Street) are subject to a $40 minimum, all others are subject to $60 minimums(10 month time frame). Minimum order requirements are based on apartment and person. Any household order counts toward 1st delivery, including roommates. We can't/won't deliver to the same person(regardless of new address) or apartment unless minimums are met." I am referring all of the tenants in that apartment elsewhere. So. The one star is for their product, which is very good. The rental plastic boxes are quite sturdy and fantastic to use. When I scheduled my delivery, I scheduled it for 8am-11am and they showed up way early, while I was still asleep. I was thankful I got my boxes, but a bit peeved they showed up outside of my delivery window. Getting the boxes back to them, however, has proved to be infuriating. Their customer service is NON-EXISTENT. Barely anyone has been able to get back to me. I call and call and leave messages and emails and NO RESPONSE, or at least a very delayed one. I first tried to get my boxes pick up May 9th - keep in mind today is June 6th. I had a pick up time between 7am-10am. No one showed up. No call either. I call them back. No response. I emailed them. No response. Finally I get another form email asking for my pick up time and new address like I had never contacted them before. I give them a new time, but don't get a confirmation email or call. I then get a voicemail the night before saying that the truck has broken down and they have to reschedule my pick up. The woman on the phone says to email because the voicemail inbox is full. I call back and that is correct - I can't leave a message. I email them a list of a couple days of when I am available for a new pick up and ask for a confirmation. I get NO RESPONSE. FINALLY when I call for the millionth time yesterday, I got someone on the phone. He was very surprised I've had the boxes for nearly a month and a half - ME TOO!! He tried to schedule a pick up for last night, but I was out and couldn't be at home. I scheduled a pick up for this morning between 7am and 10am. Surprise, surprise - no one has showed up or called me and it's now 10:20am. I've called and emailed already and no response. What a joke! I got a call three days after my delivery was due from the driver, asking to deliver my order. Not his fault, but there has been zero communication from the company to explain the delay. I declined delivery since I had already purchased boxes elsewhere. UPDATE: It's now 4 days since they were supposed to deliver. Someone from the company keeps calling me, late at night, asking if I want my order. I found CMB on Craigslist as well. At first I was a little wary because the prices were so noticeably lower than what you can find at Staples or from moving companies, but I put my trust in previous Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. I ordered a 1-room set of boxes for $44 to pack up the contents of a bedroom, bathroom, and small kitchen (excluding furniture and large appliances), and they were so generous with the boxes that I even had a few left over. The set came with 3 small boxes, 8 medium boxes, and 4 large boxes, a 100 foot roll of bubble wrap, a roll of packing tape, and a sharpie. Delivery was prompt and courteous. I asked them to come at the end of the 2-hr window they provided, to which they obliged. They ran about 20 minutes later than that, but I got a phone call letting me know they'd be late ONE MINUTE after the window had passed. Oh, and Arthur (the owner? delivery? both?) is a really nice guy! read more
