We sat outside which was a great little courtyard covered by umbrellas for the days sun & heat. We got mixed perogies (this is the only place we've been that lets you order multiple kinds on one plate, half roasted duck and Golabki (meatballs rolled inside cabbage). Perogies were fresh and tasty with spinach/cheese being our favorite. Other offers were potato and cheese, and meat. You can get either mushroom sauce or tomato sauce on the Golabki and I was so torn my waitress brought me both so I could compare. The mushroom sauce was delicious on its own but I enjoyed the tomato sauce more with the Golabki which is filled with meat and rice. (This is definitely a smaller dish than some other menu items with only two Golabki being served). The half roast duck was a large portion of food with potatoes. Duck was moist and tender but my husband who fancies himself a duck snob didn't like the preparation. This is going to be more of a Peking duck style of dish then French sear and serve rare. The children's breaded chicken was some of the best breaded chicken I have ever eaten. If you bring a kid force them to order that and then eat half of it hahaha! It appeared that the most popular item there was their duck burgers as I saw many a plate of that pass by our table. I would venture back to give one of those a try!

There were two rooms and I sat in the long one (the ceiling arc reminded me of a tunnel for some reason) with the duck mural. The menu contained lots of Polish dishes and a dedicated duck section. A duck and pickles appetizer was served gratis. It spread easily on the accompanying slices of bread and was nice. I've not had duck presented like this before and when I piled a couple of the smaller pickle pieces on top the tartness added more complexity for the flavors. I'd order this if it was on their menu. Zurek soup tasted a little tangy and was filled with sausage, mushroom, potatoes plus a whole egg and was delicious. I wasn't sure what to expect but all the different ingredients made for an enjoyable bowl. The bread bowl also contributed by thickening the soup as it abosrbed the broth. The duck breast with smoked plum sauce was thick, cooked medium and very tender. There was a little too much sauce for me but I liked the different taste. The side of glazed carrots and peas had a hint of sweetness and completed the dish along with the potato gnocchi. Service overall was good and efficient. Would return.

Also, there was a pianist playing holiday music among other notable tunes. Being here myself, it was nice to listen to. I ordered the pork chop, breaded and fried, with roasted potatoes. I also got a hot ginger beer. It's not the soda we have in the States - it's actually a beer with ginger, lemon, cinnamon, and clove. Since it's beer based, it's a little out of my comfort zone. I would normally like something like this if it were non-alcoholic and sweeter but it grew on me as I drank it. The pork chop was really good - very basic, comfort meal. There are a lot of choices in Krakow but since I just arrived and was hungry, I stopped in as I knew they had good food.

We also tried two kinds of fried pierogi: spinach and feta, and pickled cabbage with white mushrooms. It was my first time trying pierogi, and I really enjoyed them. There were half a dozen tables with fresh flowers and a little picket fence that made it just adorable. Inside it was very traditional Eastern Europe fancy middle class feeling. (That is a bizarre description I realize! Haha) It was just what we were looking for in terms of traditional Polish food. We opted for cold beet soup (one of their specialties) which had plenty of shredded beets at the bottom, a hard boiled egg and a few tiny shrimp. I'm always blown away by the color every time I'm in Eastern Europe and order this. Fabulous flavor, plenty of garlic and chive. I also ordered spinach and cheese pierogis. The dough on these were perfect and even though they had a lite bath in butter braised onions they weren't drowning in butter. The apple cider duck breast was phenomenal. They clearly brined the duck in the apple cider because the flavor was so deep into the meat and the meat was so tender. We had a little challenge with our waitress but it seemed like she was new. We weren't in a hurry and they were very nice about the baby so we didn't care. We have a friend coming to town and will definitely go back to take her there.
