Milk bars are communist era cafeteria style restaurants serving affordable, traditional Polish dishes. Milkbar Tomasza was recommended in my Lonely Planet book, and it is conveniently located in Old Town close to St. Mary's Basilica and the Market Square. The restaurant is a bit cozy and bustling with about 10 or so tables. When we got there, there was a line, but it surprisingly moved rather quickly. You order at the cash register and find a table. The staff speak English and they also have menus in English. Love that they serve breakfast all day! I got a latte with 2 shots of espresso for 15 PLN/$4 US, half order of the savory pancakes with spinach, garlic and Gouda for 18 PLN/$5 US, and half order of the pan fried sauerkraut and mushroom pierogis for 16 PLN/$4.40 US. Hubby got the homemade Polish stewed fruit drink for 6 PLN/$1.65 and he said it's just like his mom's. I was going to order one more item, but the woman in charge who took my order said that was plenty. Sure enough, it was! Everything was delicious and under $20 for two people!
Our taxi driver recommended. It wasn't too far to walk from our Airbnb. Found some wonderful places to visit nearby. We had the Irish breakfast and fried egg breakfast. Got here early enough we just walked in but by the time we got our food people were waiting outside for seating. Lots of food. You will leave full.
Found this place from Rick Steve's travel book...Polish Milk Bars are traditionally very basic and bland traditional Polish fare, but Tomasza is modern, upscale, and serving up fantastic food. The staff all spoke English well enough, and mother in charge was very friendly. 24PLN/$5.70 full 8 piece order of meat pierogis...meaty and delicious! Get them fried! 16PLN/$3.80 half 4 piece order spinach pierogos...thick, healthy, and delicious! Get them fried! 16PLN/$3.80 half 4 piece order cabbage * mushroom pierogis...thick, healthy, and delicious! 6PLN/$1.40 Polish Fruit Drink 15PLN/$3.50 Latte These were my favorite pierogis during my Poland adventures! I highly recommend visiting Poland, you get so much for your American dollar! This was a great meal for only $18ish! Also in Poland, taxes are already included in the price, and tipping is not required! Though I always tipped a 8PLN/$2 or more if service was good, as it certainly was here.
Loved it. Fun little self service milk bar, not super authentic but the prices were on par with traditional milk bars. Woman working was nice and they had an English menu. Limited seating - it was much smaller than I was expecting. I ordered the salads as a side which were tasty. I got toast with butter as well which I would probably skip as it was a bit dry and the butter was cold/hard. The pierogi were excellent and large. They had maggi on the table which was a nice complement to the pierogi. They offer both full and half portions but the full portion is a better value as it's around 22 zloty whereas the half is 14 zloty. They have a bunch of breakfast dishes (pancakes etc) on offer as it's open earlier than most of the other milk bars. Definitely would return!
Milkbar Tomasza is a lovely, little restaurant located near Old Town, Krakow. The place has a pretty large menu with a big emphasis on breakfast food. Everything here is pretty affordable and for this reason, this place attracts travelers from all over the world! This place is so small and seating is so limited so be prepared to wait a bit for a spot to sit, and then definitely expect to be sharing your table with other travelers. This is not a negative at all, as we were able to have a great conversation with a Norwegian traveler at our table through Google Translate. This place is definitely very casual and designed for small groups. I decided to go with one of their specials of the day and ordered the Chicken Fillet Stuffed with Ham and Cheese which came with potatoes and a variety of other sides which I can't name. The meal was extremely solid, incredibly filling, and was way more food than you could possibly expect for the price. There was no chance I was finishing it. I ordered it with a side of Peach tea which ended up just being a bottle of Lipton. The staff are very friendly and while you normally stand up at the front to order and then sit down with your food, they were cleaning up something when we were about to order so they told us to sit down and they'd make an exception and take our order from our seat. We were chatting with who I presume to be the owner and she was lovely, just very hospitable and friendly. I definitely recommend making a stop here for breakfast or lunch if you are in Krakow !
Milkbar Tomasza is a self-service diner recommended by the locals. It offers a variety of breakfast items, pieorgis, and main course items. The restaurant is not big, and seats do fill up fast. PRO: - Clean and cute décor with inviting atmosphere - Good price - Food come out fast I tried the black pudding, not a fan of the spices they used. But other food items were good.
4.5 stars! This Soviet-style Polish milk bar has definitely received an upgrade! Not only is the interior super clean and modern, the dishes made of quality ingredients have been given a modern spin as well, but the low menu prices still reflect the amazing value food that milk bars provide! On my visit, I tried the pierogis--one set stuffed with a shredded meat mixture, and the other with sour cabbage and mushroom. The boiled dumplings were topped with fried onions, and we also got the sour cream on the side, which made for a delicious condiment. I also tried a plate of the side salads: shredded beets, shredded carrots, and shredded cabbage--so fresh, crunchy, and delicious! The menu here is full of many amazing choices that I didn't even get to try, but everything is made to order and the service is quick and friendly. What a great place to visit in Krakow's old city!
Brest place for breakfast just off the main square in Krakow. Ordered the scrambled eggs with bacon and the pancakes with strawberries and everything was delicious! The staff is always super friendly and most from what I've seen are able to speak English so it takes the anxiety out of ordering. I highly recommend taking a stroll away from the main square and giving Milkbar Tomasza a try you won't be disappointed.
This place kept popping up on lots of must-eat places in Krakow. On my last day, this is where I went for some brunch fuel. For one, they serve breakfast all day...win! I also saw so many pictures of their Spanish omelet so that's what I HAD to have...and it was delicious. I made the mistake of ordering bread and butter on the side thinking there'd be something special about the bread, wrong. So wrong. No better than supermarket bread that's been thrown in a toaster. Skip if. Also, the restaurant doesn't have air conditioning so beware, you'll be sweating while eating like I did. They also charge an extra PLN for ketchup. Ugh. Whatever Milkbar, you're getting four-stars because of the taste and freshness. FYI, you order at the counter, waitresses don't come to you. I made that mistake sitting aimlessly waiting and then realize no one will come...
My Polish friend called this a fancy milk bar. I've never been to a milk bar so I can't comment on that, but it was like a little American diner to me. All day breakfast? Yes, please. We split an omelette and another dish I don't remember but they came out looking Instagram ready. Coffee was actually supprisingly good, hand-made and inexpensive compared to the third wave shops around town. Communal seating so if you're not into that, maybe this is not your spot.
one of the best breakfast we had in krakow, so cozy cute little milk bar, great staff/service as they are all friendly & yes can speak english. huge service at a very reasonable price. coming from the US? well, we really enjoyed our breakfast and we plan to go back for sure.

Come check out this spot if you'd like to try some authentic Polish dishes. The restaurant is quite small, so there is often a line to get in. When we visited around noon, there were only two parties ahead of us, so the wait wasn't bad at all. We ordered the daily special, a chicken cordon bleu served with potatoes and a side of vegetables that tasted a bit like coleslaw. We also tried two kinds of fried pierogi: spinach and feta, and pickled cabbage with white mushrooms. It was my first time trying pierogi, and I really enjoyed them. They reminded me of dumplings, but were served with sour cream on the side, which added a nice touch. Ordering was very straightforward. You simply place your order at the counter, and the staff will bring the food to your table. The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are generous. read more
Firstly, this place is BUSY, seemingly all the time. Breakfast and lunch both had a line out the door. We came back and waited for a table at lunch on a Tuesday, but were seated in ~10mins and the service was speedy. The prices are reasonable and there are lots of options for all day breakfast, paninis, classic polish pierogi, and other traditional entrees. The restaurant itself is simple inside, but comfortable (other than the lack of A/C or fans in the summer. Given its proximity to the main square and solid selection of local food choices, it's no wonder they stay packed. read more
I decided to try this milk bar based on the reviews and close proximity to my hotel. First attempt there was a line out the door but success happened on the second visit and I was able to get in with no wait. The decor of this milk bar was by far the most inviting of the ones I've seen or visited on this trip. While outside checkout the cool cow models below the windows which were enclosed with the exterior lighting. Inside was full of greenery and bright. Even the menu stood out with the colorful handwritten blackboard. Staff were very friendly. I grabbed an open seat and shared a table with three others. Staff came over to deliver my utensils and quickly highlight the menu. I walked up to the counter to place my order and pay. I decided to get the daily special and deviated from the Polish cuisine I've been eating the whole time here. The mushroom soup was big and delicious with a strong mushroom flavor. The chicken curry was meaty and tasty sauce with fluffy basmati rice. Well worth visiting and I can see why this place was busy all day. . read more

one of the best breakfast we had in krakow, so cozy cute little milk bar, great staff/service as they are all friendly & yes can speak english. huge service at a very reasonable price. coming from the US? well, we really enjoyed our breakfast and we plan to go back for sure. read more

OK!! This place has good food worth the money i had a big omelette for £3 something , hotChocolate really nice and sweet enough . Service was good, cleanliness also was good.. nice chilled little restaurant... definitely recommend.. Pierogies were .. go enjoy yourself on a budget read more

This small joint is like your local diner. They have everything you want to curb your cravings. From all day breakfast to soups, pierogis and main course meals. Always busy, but the customer are very conscious to leave quickly after they finish. Their price is amazing, around 6-7 bucks for breakfast and drinks. They are not a bakery, so expect sliced bread. However, the food is hot and efficient. The staff is always smiley:) read more

As other reviews suggest, this place is very cheap and serves gigantic portions. It seems popular with backpackers and for good reason - I can see this place being like heaven if you're tired, hungover, skint and in need of some comfort food! It gets very busy and we actually couldn't find a table the first two times we tried to visit. On our successful third attempt we ordered Ruskie pierogi and a bacon and brie panini with chips to share. I also had an orange juice which was the low point, as it was incredibly acidic. The pierogi were very tasty, we got them fried which makes them a little less flabby than the boiled version, although perhaps also a little less comforting. The panini was nothing particularly exciting but tasty, same applies to the chips. If you need a good feed for a small price this is where you need to be. read more

Breakfast all day long. With a motto that will rejoice early AND late birds, Milkbar is a friendly place for a great cheap breakfast, a few steps away from the main square. Not a huge place -10 tables of varied sizes - the specialty is jajecznica (scrambled eggs) with many flavours but they also offer a choice of naleśniki (pancakes). I didn't have any of that but fresh orange juice, an expresso and plain toasts with butter and jam that were not on the menu but were offered readily. Worth every Zloty! Started with steaming HOT beet soup with potatoes. (I hate lukewarm anything!) Sweet and tangy flavors surprised yet satisfied my taste buds. Overflowing plate of fried chicken cutlet, fries and three different side salads came next. Cutlet fresh and got from the fryer and seasoned just right. Left totally happy and amazed this meal was so reasonably priced. read more
Awesome place for breakfast. We decided to check this place out for breakfast, and we were not dissappointed. The "sweet cakes" are crepes, and they are exceptional. We also ordered fried eggs, with spinach, some type of cheese (cottage or cream), with toast, and this meal too, was exceptional. We each had coffee, I had a latte and my wife had a cappucino. Both drinks were very good, and this means a lot coming from coffee snobs like us :-) The prices were very reasonable in our opinion, when we converted to US Dollars, the whole shebang cost us roughly $12. The cafe is in a good location, it is clean, well lit, and the staff is engaging and friendly. Did I mention the food is exceptional? They also accept credit cards. Finally, the decor is also well done, and there is good background music to complete the vibe. Eating breakfast in Krakow? This is a great choice! read more
Cute little place that was near our hotel in krakow. I was intrigued to come here because of krakow's history with milkbars where the polish people came during soviet times and were able to congregate among others like them. The interior was nicely decorated, with communal and single tables. Bright colors and paintings on the walls. The menu itself it pretty diverse, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner items. We were there in the morning so we all had breakfast, I had a egg, cheese and homemade pesto 'panini' made to order, which was good choice, except the panini was not pressed. It was basically sandwich bread. Tasted good nonetheless. We also had the famous potato pancakes with sour cream which were quite greasy I must say. They were nice to eat but did not have a ton of potato inside. Tried their lattes, which were up to par, and the servers are all bilingual which made it really easy for us. Overall I thought the food here was good, service was prompt and ambiance was nice. Good place to hangout, have a quick bite and relax in the center. read more

Great food for good price! I had the daily special which included one soup and one main course. I chose cream with carrot and ginger for my soup and meat loaf for my main course. They were both delicious and the soup alone was already really filling that I kinda wish I didn't get the hot stewed fruit tea, which was very tasty by the way it's just I was really full after having the soup. Nice location, cozy ambience and friendly staff. Would recommend ! read more

Saw the reviews and pleased to say the food is as good actually better than the pictures. My wife had the apple fritter and they were amazingly great. I has the Irish and asked for scrambled egg, amazing good taste. Great quality and taste. Coffee could have been a bit hotter but again good taste. I normally drink coffee with a sugar but this was great with no sugar. Friendly staff always help the experience and everyone in this Caffè was welcoming. Clearly a popular place, we arrived at just after 9am on Sunday morning and they were already busy. They have enough seating for about 40 guests. Definitely worth a visit, especially when we paid less than £10 for cooked breakfast, apple fritters and two coffees. Enjoy read more

This place is awesome! We try to squeeze in multiple visits while in Kraków. Can get a bit busy at times, but easy to get a seat with only two. Might want to go a little early if you have a group of 4+ They have a daily special with soup and main course for 18 złoty, and the quality is amazing. We've had their traditional Irish Breakfast before and it is amazing!! Fish and chips were fabulous, and their chicken and potatoes was delightful. Their pierogis are delicious, with choice of fried or steamed. The service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is nice and cozy. read more

Really nice place! We needed to wait some minutes because the place was crowded, but the service is fast and really polite. The price- performance ratio is amazing. And if you get up early you don't have to wait for a seat! read more
