Three types of bagels and a yogurt parfait.

We came here looking for breakfast before a walking tour and this was one of the few places open before 10 am. The decor of the restaurant was adorable; in the front room and the back patio area where we were sitting. We each ordered a coffee which was only okay but the breakfast was very good. We ordered a yogurt parfait and then tried three different types of their bagels with toppings; egg salad, sausage and tomato and mozzarella. These were delicious and filling. Service was friendly but slow and we were the only customers in there for the first 30 minutes we were there. Definitely a cute place.

    Fantastic duck!!!

Went here for dinner with two friends while visiting for the weekend. Food was absolutely delicious--we enjoyed everything and our plates were completely clean. We wanted to eat quality polish food over the weekend and the night before we had had very heavy (yet very delicious!) food. The food here was lighter yet still polish at it's core. I had the half roast duck and would highly suggest it! We also split a plate of pierogis and they were easily the best I've had in Poland. Service was also very good and atmosphere was very casual. As with most places in krakow, the food was an excellent value and definitely did not break the bank based on it quality!

We decided to take a day trip to Krakow in order to visit Auschwitz and Birkenau. Little did we know that if booking a visit to Auschwitz and Birkenau through a tour group, they are held to very strict time limits, which was never disclosed until we were at the camp. Tour groups are given a time limit of two hours, which is nearly not enough given the sheer size and magnitude of Auschwitz and Birkenau. Given the atrocities that also took place here, this limited amount of time does not allow one to digest and take in the realities of horror that took place here. One almost has to compartmentalize things, and think about them at a later time since you are rushed through. I can see time limits during the summer months when I can imagine it can get quite crowded, but we went during winter, and it was raining throughout our visit. Given those circumstances along with the smaller crowds, I would hope that time limits are relaxed a little more in the future. Upon our return to Krakow, it was still raining. Chilled to the bone, we were looking for a nice hot meal before taking the train back to Warsaw. After doing a little research, we ended up choosing Szalone Widelce. It has great reviews, and is close to the train station. In fact, there is an underground tunnel that lets out very close to the restaurant. The meal started out with a basket of bread, and a "pork spread" of sorts which does contain fat. Rich and unctuous, this was a big hit. The Krakow Style Soup was one of the best soups I have ever had. The soup is sour cream based, and tasted like ham hocks and contained sausage, potatoes and hard-boiled eggs. The "Crazy Dish" was a smorgasbord of seemingly everything on their menu. It contained goulash, schnitzel, pork cutlet, ribs, sour cream pierogis, a potato pancake, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, beets, carrot salad, and French Fries. Most things were cooked well, and tasted good, but this was way too much food for one person. The taste overload also diminished in the taste of the dish. For ~$13 however, this was a great dish to try. The Grilled Chicken Breast was a large chicken breast stuffed with spinach and garlic, and came with potatoes that were nice and crunchy. The real surprise of the dish was the amount of cheese on top of the chicken, as the menu did not even mention cheese as being one of the ingredients. Also on the table were little candies that tasted like soft, chewy maple Bit-O-Honey. Service was fine throughout, and all employees were very friendly and spoke good English. Portions are rather large, and have good value. I would come back for the soup alone.

We stayed at a hotel a few doors down the street and vouchers for breakfast at Szalone Widelce were included. What a treat! The breakfasts offered were substantial and very good. Eggs, yogurt, delicious sausages and bacon, fresh fruit and vegetables, good bread and fruit jam that was out of this world. We returned one evening which happened to be pig knuckle night and my kraut and knuckle dish was very tasty and well presented. But again so much - lucky to have a refrigerator in our room. The place was also decorated in a very pleasant and cheerful style and featured patio and downstairs dining. And did I mention that prices were quite reasonable?

There were two rooms and I sat in the long one (the ceiling arc reminded me of a tunnel for some reason) with the duck mural. The menu contained lots of Polish dishes and a dedicated duck section. A duck and pickles appetizer was served gratis. It spread easily on the accompanying slices of bread and was nice. I've not had duck presented like this before and when I piled a couple of the smaller pickle pieces on top the tartness added more complexity for the flavors. I'd order this if it was on their menu. Zurek soup tasted a little tangy and was filled with sausage, mushroom, potatoes plus a whole egg and was delicious. I wasn't sure what to expect but all the different ingredients made for an enjoyable bowl. The bread bowl also contributed by thickening the soup as it abosrbed the broth. The duck breast with smoked plum sauce was thick, cooked medium and very tender. There was a little too much sauce for me but I liked the different taste. The side of glazed carrots and peas had a hint of sweetness and completed the dish along with the potato gnocchi. Service overall was good and efficient. Would return.

I am from the United States so I can honestly say these were the best pierogi I've ever had (and my grandparents made great pierogi!) The service was attentive and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We dined around 4pm so we were seated right away but we were told that the other side of the restaurant was already booked for reservations starting at 5. I suggest making a reservation if you plan on dining at a typical dinner time. This was also on a Tuesday so I imagine they are quite busy throughout the week as well.

When we visited around noon, there were only two parties ahead of us, so the wait wasn't bad at all. We ordered the daily special, a chicken cordon bleu served with potatoes and a side of vegetables that tasted a bit like coleslaw. We also tried two kinds of fried pierogi: spinach and feta, and pickled cabbage with white mushrooms. It was my first time trying pierogi, and I really enjoyed them. They reminded me of dumplings, but were served with sour cream on the side, which added a nice touch. Ordering was very straightforward. You simply place your order at the counter, and the staff will bring the food to your table. The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are generous.

The decor of this milk bar was by far the most inviting of the ones I've seen or visited on this trip. While outside checkout the cool cow models below the windows which were enclosed with the exterior lighting. Inside was full of greenery and bright. Even the menu stood out with the colorful handwritten blackboard. Staff were very friendly. I grabbed an open seat and shared a table with three others. Staff came over to deliver my utensils and quickly highlight the menu. I walked up to the counter to place my order and pay. I decided to get the daily special and deviated from the Polish cuisine I've been eating the whole time here. The mushroom soup was big and delicious with a strong mushroom flavor. The chicken curry was meaty and tasty sauce with fluffy basmati rice. Well worth visiting and I can see why this place was busy all day. .

The cheese plate and tartare were not accompanied with any bread or crackers. The cheese selection was boring in my opinion. The queens jam is not my thing. The stake tartare was so good. The goose liver pate was delicate, without too much of the earthy aroma that sometimes pate can have. The cranberry gelee offset the richness of the pate. I suggest you order bread on the side, to ensure you have enough to spread it on. The roast duck was meaty yet tender and moist. It appears they slow cooked it, very much to perfection. It had a nice crispy exterior, and not too much fat. I had their pan fried beets on the side, and they were smooth and delicate, without over being overpowering.
