A little light reading
Colin M.

This restaurant specialises in oven-baked kasza (groats, buckwheat or millet in English) in its various forms. I don't really like kasza, but I was prepared to try it again (Pod Wawelem's kasza seemed quite nice when I sampled it). I chose ribs in pear sauce served with kasza gryczana and shredded vegetables (surówka). The ribs weren't particularly tasty and I didn't really enjoy the kasza, but I finished the meal anyway. Some of my fellow diners had what looked to be better options. The kasza jaglana z indykiem (millet with turkey) smelt and looked fantastic. Next time I'll try this. The apple crumble looked very nice too, at 14 Zloty for quite a big portion served with ice cream. The meal and accompanying beer was reasonably priced and our table of a dozen or so people was comfortably seated. This place has a fantastic interior with various different sections to suit your mood. I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Buckwheat. The food here is as exciting as it sounds. For food that's good for you though, they manage to make it pretty tasty. Dobra Kasza Nasza is a very good option when you feel the need to detox your digestive system. The dishes here tend not to be greasy. Most of them don't contain dairy product. And as far as I know buckwheat doesn't contain gluten. Personally, I find kasza gryczana (unmilled buckwheat) to be a bit too hardcore. Kasza jaglana is easier on the palate. The texture is somewhere between couscous and rice. For a place with a view on the Market Square, Dobra Kasza Nasza is fairly inexpensive. Their specialty dishes are priced around 20zł. At the time of writing they have a special offer where beer is 3.5zł when you order a plate of kasza. The interior design here is quite pleasant. It's elegant and cosy at the same time.

Cute, cozy place in the right on the main spot. I found an interesting dish, made with groan. I ordered it with mushrooms. It came with BBQ sauce (if I wasn't mistaken, it was American BBQ sauce). Not sure how I would use it, but regardless the dish was good. I wouldn't say, it was the best in the town but certainly unusual and tasty. The price was good and yes, the ambient was very present.

Very tasty food! You definitely have to try their speciality! Choose something with their awesome garlic sauce and a Sauerkraut salad.

We sat outside which was a great little courtyard covered by umbrellas for the days sun & heat. We got mixed perogies (this is the only place we've been that lets you order multiple kinds on one plate, half roasted duck and Golabki (meatballs rolled inside cabbage). Perogies were fresh and tasty with spinach/cheese being our favorite. Other offers were potato and cheese, and meat. You can get either mushroom sauce or tomato sauce on the Golabki and I was so torn my waitress brought me both so I could compare. The mushroom sauce was delicious on its own but I enjoyed the tomato sauce more with the Golabki which is filled with meat and rice. (This is definitely a smaller dish than some other menu items with only two Golabki being served). The half roast duck was a large portion of food with potatoes. Duck was moist and tender but my husband who fancies himself a duck snob didn't like the preparation. This is going to be more of a Peking duck style of dish then French sear and serve rare. The children's breaded chicken was some of the best breaded chicken I have ever eaten. If you bring a kid force them to order that and then eat half of it hahaha! It appeared that the most popular item there was their duck burgers as I saw many a plate of that pass by our table. I would venture back to give one of those a try!

This Polish restaurant featured duck and that's what brought me in…read more I arrived for a late lunch without a reservation but was seated immediately. There were two rooms and I sat in the long one (the ceiling arc reminded me of a tunnel for some reason) with the duck mural. The menu contained lots of Polish dishes and a dedicated duck section. A duck and pickles appetizer was served gratis. It spread easily on the accompanying slices of bread and was nice. I've not had duck presented like this before and when I piled a couple of the smaller pickle pieces on top the tartness added more complexity for the flavors. I'd order this if it was on their menu. Zurek soup tasted a little tangy and was filled with sausage, mushroom, potatoes plus a whole egg and was delicious. I wasn't sure what to expect but all the different ingredients made for an enjoyable bowl. The bread bowl also contributed by thickening the soup as it abosrbed the broth. The duck breast with smoked plum sauce was thick, cooked medium and very tender. There was a little too much sauce for me but I liked the different taste. The side of glazed carrots and peas had a hint of sweetness and completed the dish along with the potato gnocchi. Service overall was good and efficient. Would return.

There were half a dozen tables with fresh flowers and a little picket fence that made it just adorable. Inside it was very traditional Eastern Europe fancy middle class feeling. (That is a bizarre description I realize! Haha) It was just what we were looking for in terms of traditional Polish food. We opted for cold beet soup (one of their specialties) which had plenty of shredded beets at the bottom, a hard boiled egg and a few tiny shrimp. I'm always blown away by the color every time I'm in Eastern Europe and order this. Fabulous flavor, plenty of garlic and chive. I also ordered spinach and cheese pierogis. The dough on these were perfect and even though they had a lite bath in butter braised onions they weren't drowning in butter. The apple cider duck breast was phenomenal. They clearly brined the duck in the apple cider because the flavor was so deep into the meat and the meat was so tender. We had a little challenge with our waitress but it seemed like she was new. We weren't in a hurry and they were very nice about the baby so we didn't care. We have a friend coming to town and will definitely go back to take her there.

There is outdoor seating but we sat at a window to watch the world go by and had the best Polish meal I've ever had. A highlight was the white borscht as well as the strawberry dumplings. Have you seen Andrew Zimmern's "Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations" episode of Kraków? This is…read morethe restaurant in that episode that shows the making of their famous cabbage rolls (Gołąbki). I was curious about the delicate cabbage leaves that look like the wings of its namesake (little doves or pigeons). It was everything I thought it would be, and more. I'm so glad that we tried them. It's popular for a reason. I really appreciated the fresh mushrooms, and the filling of buckwheat. It made the rolls so light. It felt like comfort food at its best. Very delicious! They can make them gluten-free as well. In fact, the menu has a lot of options for those with dietary restrictions. They'll ask you right away if you have any allergies to certain foods. The service was great. Everything was explained very well. We couldn't pass up dessert. They all looked so good. My husband decided to get the Basque Cheesecake. It's not on the menu, but they'll let you know if it's available by request. I was tossed between the Egg Nog Cake and the Chocolate Cherry Cake. Both have some form of liquor in it. The Egg Nog Cake or Ajerkoniakowy Tort was my absolute favorite of the 2 desserts. I really liked the eggnog filling. I'd think it would be rum (like the Polish Kogel Mogel punch), but we were told that the vodka works better in their recipe. They were right. It's definitely heavenly. What I love is that there were more locals eating there. I didn't see any tourists. It's kind of off the beaten path. We decided to head on over to Kazimierz since it's not very far from this resraurant. It all worked out perfectly. I'd love to return one day to try other menu items. Everything looked great.
