*1 STAR - And only because 0 is not an option. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE* I stayed this Saturday at City Express Plus Ensenada and it was a total disappointment. The hotel looks like it's under construction, everything looks run-down and neglected, but the staff says it's been open for 7 years. The rooms are just okay, 2 out of 5 at best. The worst part was the breakfast. The stay supposedly includes breakfast. I've stayed at other City Express hotels, for example in Tijuana, and the included breakfast has coffee, juice, bread, sweet bread, fruit with yogurt, eggs with ham, chilaquiles, etc. Here in Ensenada, the "included breakfast" was: plain scrambled eggs, black beans, fruit, juice, coffee and bread. That's it. If you wanted scrambled eggs with ham and chilaquiles - which weren't even real chilaquiles, they looked like bagged tortilla chips with sauce - they wanted to charge you an extra *$300 pesos*. This is completely inappropriate. Charging extra for something that is included at every other City Express. And as you can see in the photo, where they have the buffet is disgusting. The wall is full of rust, dirty, stained. Zero hygiene for a food area. They have a sign that says "FULL HOT BREAKFAST BUFFET" and it's a joke. I do not recommend it at all. The reason we chose this hotel was for the pool. We got here to find out the pool is out of service. The hotel itself is extremely small and narrow. Lots of construction going around so you can't even rest. Trashed side of the hotel. Hotel does not look at all like pictured. Paid the cost of a night at a luxury hotel for such disappointed hotel. Completely not as advertised on their website. Restaurant is contemporary. Nice view of the beach. The restaurant provides continental breakfast. Hot food is extra charge. Food is edible but Not too hygienic. Missing serving spoons. Lady worker placed an already used serving spoon from the scrambled eggs into the fried beans. Brought it up to her attention and she said it was food. I told her that was anti-hygienic. She then rolled her eyes and pulled the serving spoon out. At the end of the day, the serving spoon was replaced but the section of the bowl was already mixed with beans and eggs. read more

I see all of the negative reviews here, but my experience was completely the opposite. I have stayed in many hotels throughout the years, and around the world, and some were good, and some were bad, but I have to say this was the first time I felt a little sad to leave. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. They provided a very personalized service for my son and me. My 2012 Honda Odyssey was no match for the potholes on the roads, and my CV joint decided to fall apart in the hotel parking area. All the staff rallied to help me fix it. One staff member arranged for her brother-in-law, who is a mechanic, to come out and assess the situation. He quoted a very fair price to fix it. The same staff member gave me a ride to AutoZone to purchase the part, and the repair was made, and I was back in action. The room was very clean and cleaned daily. The housekeeping staff was very friendly and polite. The rooftop pool is beautiful, and the view from our room was incredible. The bathrooms are on the small side, with little counter space, but they're still clean and nice. They have a small but pleasant gym. My son, a gym rat, made do with the limited equipment and didn't complain. The restaurant is nice, and the included continental breakfast was above average. I am giving this review five stars based on the people and the overall experience. There are two top-notch restaurants directly adjacent to the hotel, and I highly recommend both. read more

Great views from our ocean front room and the side rooms also have ocean views with city mixed in. They took us where we wanted to go on their shuttle, gratis, though we had to uber back which was not a problem. It was great having housekeeping every day without having to ask and they actually changed the sheets too. Quite the contrast from Mariott stateside where they only make up your room every three days if you're lucky. Housekeeping also left more bottled water each day. The place was quiet and everything worked in the room: hvac, refrigerator etc. Complimentary breakfast and coffee were good with ocean view and the pool deck on top was pleasant. The front desk would only give us two room key cards for three people which was inconvenient because you have to use it in the elevator to get to your floor and to open the door. read more

Despite the overwhelming negative reviews here on Yelp, I personally had a wonderful stay at City Express Plus. We were here for the three day weekend and we stayed for 2 nights for ~$400. The pool was warm, even in February, and the view is breathtaking of the water. There's a restaurant inside with breathtaking views, and another one on the same floor as the pool. One of the walls was a big window and the shades did a great job making the room nice and dark. The room itself was extremely spacious for a junior suite. It came with a microwave, and a mini fridge. My only feedback is the bathroom was pretty small. Other than that we had a great stay, and I wouldn't mind coming back! read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here last weekend while attending a wedding in Valle. Holy hell, what a dump! When paying $250/night you'd expect the room not to smell like sewage, but the other reviews are spot on. When we complained, a woman came upstairs with some air freshener . We were like, ah hell no! So they moved us to another room. Unfortunately, that room gave us the gift of someone else's hair in the dirty sheets! Instead of offering to change the sheets, they wanted to move us to another room- brilliant! Upon checkout, the idiot front desk lady asked me, "how was your stay, was everything good?" Their hotel system fucked up! We got checked in and then around 10pm when we are all sleeping, someone is trying to open our door and basically they have the same key card that we have. They are trying to check in because the other people gave the same room to other guest. I called the reception and to find out what had happened and they told me that their hotel system has some trouble. Im like, i dont feel safe in this hotel if they can easily give another key access other people to an currently occupied room. Aside from that incident, The parking is in the mud dirty parking lot away from the hotel. The reception area is so hot like their AC does not works. Cat fish hotel! Everything you read about on the reviews is 100% accurate. My bed had hairs and the room had a lot of dust. The attentiveness we received was only by the guys who help with the luggage but other than that nothing. We requested more toiletries and never received them. We were hungry and tried to order room service and it was close, mind you it says till 10pm but 8pm was their closing time. I will start this review with the negatives which are the following: Our stay at this hotel was for 3 nights 4 days and paid $545.00 which was way overpriced for the quality of room and guest services. When we arrived the check in took about 30 long minutes. Our credit card was charged half of the full amount a couple days before checking in which we were still okay with, but when we checked in the front desk girl said she would charge the remainder of the amount due for our stay. The problem began when our card was charged $100.00 dollars over the actual remaining balance. When my boyfriend asked why there was this additional charge, the front desk employee stated that they were charging on the currency exchange amount to their hotel policy. Keep in mind that if you are not paying in Mexican currency, pesos, you will end up paying more money in the long run since each business will do the exchange rate at a lower amount from the actual exchange rate. Next, when we parked our car there was 4 parking spaces up in the front of the hotel. Our first night we went to dinner and returned to absolutely no parking in the hotel premises. A hotel employee told us that the hotel only has 8 parking spaces and directed us to park in a dirt parking lot approximately one block away from the hotel. This parking situation is very inconvenient for guests because not only are you parking far away from hotel, but the walkway back to the hotel is not paved and since it's dirt it was muddy the nights of our stay.... So take rain boots or you will get your nice shoes muddy. Now on to the actual room. The room we got looked clean, but the issue was the shower. The shower was ridiculously small. The shower door opens inwards which means you have to move to the very left section of the shower to be able to open the door to get out. If you are a mom with small children and you want to shower your child in with you, I will say that's almost impossible hence the size of shower. The continental breakfast the hotel claims to offer at no charge as part of your stay is NOT really a continental breakfast. Once you go to their breakfast area you will expect eggs, waffles, sausage, bacon and those typical items that a continental breakfast offers for the most part, but not in this hotel. This hotels continental breakfast only offers 3 different types of fruits (papaya, melon, watermelon), bread, hot coffee, hot tea and juice. If you want to eat eggs and the basic breakfast items you will have to purchase it off their menu. Based on all these inconveniences with this hotel I would not be returning to City Express Plus Ensenada. Hopefully they fix these issues with the extra hidden charges, parking and their so called continental breakfast so it's at least worth the high prices they charge per night for staying here. I will say that their breakfast and pool area are nice and the security guards along with hotel employees are polite and friendly. read more

The room was very dirty. The floors were not cleaned and there was hair and dust everywhere. The shower floor was moldy and rusty. The odor in the room was very strong, sewage like smell. Upon check out, the sales manager who was the person "in-charge" was of no help and didn't seem to listen to the issues saying "no one has ever mentioned an experience like that..." which is very hard to believe since the moldy shower doesn't happen overnight. I booked my reservation over the phone with the number that they have on their website. After driving 10 plus hours to get to our destination we find out or reservation has been cancelled! The receptionist do not know what they are doing and said it was cancelled because I didn't check in Friday when I told them I would check in Saturday around 2am. I was told I needed to reserve the whole day prior due to check in times etc. I secured my room with my card Info to make matter worse. They asked who I booked it with and I said I only called the numbers directly on their website ! They did nothing to try and help us and they had no rooms available!!!!! when I asked to speak with a manager they stated they did not have one available at this time. I was never notified I needed to communicate with the front desk what time I was gonna arrive if I had reservations . It was overall very very frustrating and not what you want to hear after a long day . Awful. This is my second review as my 1st one seems to be missing. The hotel smells like a sewer. The rooms are very nice except for the pungent smell. My experience was horrible. They told me my reservation was for a Thursday night, not Thursday, Friday that I had booked and presented printed proof of. The rep indicated that my reservation needed to be changed and to come back in an hour. I did but they actually canceled my reservation and rebooked me. Instead of the already bloated $300 for the two nights that I paid hotels.com, they charged me another $400. Stay away from this hotel! Booked a room here from their website and unfortunately I had to cancel the reservation, the person I was traveling with could no longer go due to a illness in the family. I thought about keeping the reservation but I was invited to something else so I called the number listed on the website weeks ahead to cancel. I have a text message to prove I called and this wasn't just a mistake or something I-overlooked! Yesterday I received a notice of a charge from the hotel. I tried calling several times to figure out what was happening. After hours of waiting on hold and getting hung up on, I finally spoke to someone who was of very little help! Finally I called the hotel directly and was told someone would return my call within the hour, next day I am still waiting. Tried calling several times, no answer! Basically what I think happened is that when I called to cancel the reservation the girl had no idea what she was doing and basically told me what I wanted to hear in order to get me off the phone! She even made up a fake confirmation number, I know this because I gave it to the hotel and they said it wasn't the correct format. The only number I ever used or have is from the reservation email, they would love to blame it on someone else, but it's them that have no idea what they are doing!
