I recently discovered the beauty of Reservoir Street in Surry Hills - a tiny street with cute cafes, juice bars, sandwich shops and restaurants. I only came across this quaint street while waiting for my $5 Domino's Pizza around the corner (stop judging!!) :D Ok, upon arriving at the City Edge Cafe, you're greeted with an array of FRESH flowers that are available for purchase. Once inside, you're going to have to take a step back and absorb the gigantic menu.. it's literally a giant menu from floor to ceiling but it has about 793643 sandwiches listed. I had the hardest time making a choice but I went with my heart and got the Roasted Duck with boiled egg, cucumber, mint, coriander, chili paste and hoisan sauce on Turkish bread and their juice of the week (passionfruit, carrot, watermelon and orange).. OMG!!!!! Probably one of the BEST and FRESHEST sandwiches I've ever had!!! And the juice was just as amazing!!! But the thing I was most truly amazed about was the gentleman behind the counter who took my order. I'm sure they have tons of regulars who come in and so they'll remember names, but to remember their order too?? I'm not talking about 1 or 2 people.. there were more than a handful of customers who walked in and it seemed like everyone was an old friends. Kudos for superior customer service!!!! The best chicken schnitzel sandwich I have ever had. Tried two today, sharing with a friend, the Vietnamese chicken schnitzel roll and the Cajun schnitzel & bacon burger. Both were perfect. Bread was as fresh as ever, salad was too and the hero was the crunchy-but-juicy schnitzel. How they get it so crunchy is pure food magic. Each sandwich was topped with just the right amount of finger licking sauce. I was in heaven eating these sandwiches in the park one block away up Commonwealth street. Oh and make sure you try their juices. They change the fruit and veg combos regularly. Today had strawberry and watermelon and other yummy stuff. Who names their cafe City Edge? The kind of people that don't give a shit and let their food and service do the talkin... You wouldn't expect this place to be a top notch sandwich and juice bar but it is...they have an extensive sandwich menu for less than $9 each, and they have special rolls that go for $10. I had the Vietnamese style chicken schnitzel (recommended by a friend) and it was pretty damn tasty...you can swap this to a wrap if the baguette might be too hard/flaky for you. It's also delicious... You can get a fresh juice of your choice starting at $3 or you can have them create a sandwich/juice from their bar altogether. The queue gets pretty massive at lunchtime but it moves extremely quick, and if you come enough they'll remember your name. Surry Hills has some pretty damn good sandwich offerings... read more

I'm an hard marker. Just look at my other reviews. I've only handed out one other 5-star review. This place is THAT good. So it's sandwiches - big deal, I hear you say. Yes, it IS a big deal. It doesn't matter that there is a line up to order. Because that line moves mighty fast. And you need the time to read the blackboard to decide on your sandwich. Once you've placed your order with the friendly and evidently competent chap whose sole job it is to welcome you, advise you on options, then take your small amount of cash for what you are getting in exchange, you then wait outside. Within 5 minutes, even when it's the busy period, you have your sandwich in hand. Toasted or not. And it's bursting with filling. There are no corners cut here. This place is legit. The other aspect that has me gushing are the juices. Freshly pressed in minutes upon ordering, your cup is filled to the brim with juice, not ice. It's 100% juice. One toasted sandwich on Turkish and a large juice that I couldn't finish in one sitting: $14. Coming from Perth, let me tell you, that is astounding value. In a great way. You won't regret it. I had never been a big sandwich person until I came here. I am of this belief that there are other people out there who feel this way because there is always a line here and that line always snakes outside and God knows there are other places to get sandwiches. The sandwiches are tremendous. You walk in (say excuse me and please), look to your right at the big blackboard with the sandwich types written in white chalk, choose a number corresponding to the sandwich that you want and go to the counter (before you do that though you're going to make your way to the back of the line) and order. Or you can make your own: I typically get poached chicken with lettuce and tomato on wheat - no butter, no mayonnaise, no salt, maybe pepper. The guy will ask you your name and they will call out for you in a minute. Really, literally like a minute. But I also have to tell you about "the guy". He is the real star of this sandwich sideshow. He's sweet, he looks learned, he is quick, well-mannered and he will remember your name. Yes. He will remember your name. There are about 4 tables in the cafe but don't count on taking a seat - there's too many people standing around waiting in line or waiting around for their order. I usually bring my lunch to work but this week, I came to City Edge twice in one week. WHAAT? Yes - it was that good! The first time I had a chicken schnitzel wrap (Caesar salad style) with bacon, lettuce, egg and cheese. The tortilla wrap was soft and the chicken was crispy, warm and so delicious! It wasn't a small skimpy wrap either, it was full and filling! The second time I came to City Edge was with a friend and we were so indecisive so we decided to order the Soft Shell Crab Burger ($12) and the Chicken Schnitzel Vietnamese Roll Special ($10) and split it. I am so glad we did that. The Crab Burger was divine! The soft shell crab was crispy but yet fluffy and moist. It seemed like it had an Asian twist with pickled veggies and mayo - it was incredible! Then the Vietnamese Chicken Schnitzel Roll was everything you wanted in a chicken schnitzel, but with that Vietnamese flavour! It was so good, and the mayo was so tasty and delicious! I will definitely come back to City Edge for lunch - wish it was opened on the weekends! There is a long line out the front but it moves quickly so don't be deterred! read more

This place is one of the few reasons I miss working on Reservoir Street! They make the absolute best sandwiches in Sydney. Their service is top notch too. Tommy knew my name after my second visit and that is a HUGE task seeing as they have customers going out the door constantly. The lines are huge, but they move fast. The sandwiches are actually big enough for me to take two sittings to finish, so grab an early lunch and beat "three-thirty-itis"/afternoon-munchies at the same time. Feel free to create your own concoction of flavours, but if you always order the same thing (after you've tried everything obviously), Tommy will remember your name and your order next time you go there making the process even faster! They close over the Christmas break and it's devastating! One time (at band camp?) people left a note on the door telling them to come back soon and everyone left lovely scribbles on them. Unlike frightful bars in Manly, you know a queue is a good sign when it's outside a humble cafe. These guys are lightning. Excellent service. Delicious food. I'm struggling to sample the rest of the menu because the Viet style schnitzel wrap is just so freaking excellent. If you're in the area you really can't find better for a work day lunch. read more

Large choice of wraps, sandos and salads - for about 10$ and the portion sizes are perfect ! Ah City Edge. Who would have thought this unassuming take away joint could produce the best sandwiches in Sydney, the best fresh juices in Sydney and the best service in Sydney. Tommy - I take my hat off to you for remembering my name after my second visit to City Edge and I am sure City Edge's regular customers (even somewhat regular customers) feel the same. The haloumi, avocado, artichoke, rocket and a squeeze of lemon sandwich is OUT of this world. I go for wholemeal bread toasted and honestly, it's perfection. I have found no better chicken schnitzel in Sydney - really. And neither has my schnitzel-obsessed boyfriend. The benchmark has been set too high. I wish wish wish City Edge was open on the weekends, or at least Saturdays (I believe they do sell flowers, not sandwiches, on Saturdays - very diversified!) so we could get the chance to go more often! I ordered a Roast Pork Sandwich on rye bread when I probably should have ordered the Banh Mi instead. Nothing really special about the sandwich I had. They could've at least offered to toast the bread because in the end I got a unhappy soggy sandwich. What a steal! Best find of the week. Cheap eats under $10 with yummy options including haloumi, sweet potato concoctions, and roast duck. Salads, soups, juice, smoothies, & sandwiches available though sandwiches & wraps seem to be their specialty. Aussie options run by Asian employees means quick & cheap eats. These guys are friendlier than most. People hanging outside the door enjoying their meal or waiting to go in line is what drew me in, & I'm so thankful I passed by. Small seating area available inside, not the best ambiance but who cares for this price? Close enough to the park around Central Station to enjoy the meal elsewhere. This place is freaking small with rude employee. The bald head Chinese guy who took our orders was very rude even though I was kindly explained to him it was our first time there and new to the city. He was rushing us and told us stand to the side so he can take next customers and I overheard him was telling to one of the customer that "he doesn't care ". He also argued with us in front of customers. Wtf! He really needs some help with customer service skills. Nothing impress me with this place and the sad part was no manager even came out to apologize or at least solve the issue.!!! I wish I can rate this place zero star if I could!! read more
