Not terrible for a fast food option. It was just very bland, I expected more flavor from the meat choices I tried. The chicken was good, but there wasn't any smoked flavor at all. Ordered delivery from City Barbeque Miller Lane. I've never been to a City BBQ, so this was a new-to-me restaurant. I got a few kids meals so that I could try several things. Made for left overs for a couple of days too. The chicken fingers were really good. I preferred the pulled chicken to the turkey. I got several sauces to try and liked them all but one. Not sure which one, because I didn't understand the abbreviations that they put on the cups. ‍ I was missing the drinks from two of the kids meals. I contacted the restaurant and they made it right! Ran across City BBQ after striking out on several Dayton area restaurants that were not accommodating dine-in services. Happy to see it open and also COVID friendly. Specially constructed plastic dividers were placed between each set of tables. There also was a high-top bar-type area, but no plastic dividers there. First impressions: nicely decorated and clean. I had beef brisket which was excellent, tender, nice crispy fat layer not too greasy but just right. Meats are all served dry, you choose your BBQ sauce and it is packed on the side. I picked "original". For sides I had creamy slaw and mac and cheese. Both sides fresh and home-made tasting. Mac and cheese sauce was smooth and good cheesiness. BF's sides were hush puppies which were nicely fried, again, not gross and greasy, and an excellent corn pudding. In the world of portion-distortion, portion sizes appeared small initially, but upon finishing my meal, I was perfectly satisfied, not grossly full, not starving for more. I wish I had room for dessert, will come back and try that next time. Overall, one of the best beef briskets I have ever had! I will certainly come back for more. read more

City Barbecue is one of my Ohio favorites when I am in the state. They rarely disappoint (except the fact that they rarely if ever sell roasted wings anymore which were exceptionally good). The corn pudding is some of the best in the business, and the chicken and ribs are always tasty (albeit the ribs could have more meat on the bones. The pleasant surprise was the grilled bologna sandwich. I tried is as something different and it was quite good. I will definitely get it again. I might not want to see how bologna is made, but I definitely want this super thick slab topped with pickles and onions again! read more

Food was good but it was so crowded with the line out the door. A lot of other rude patrons from children running around and fighting to sneezing without covering their mouths. The cashier wasn't very nice or helpful. The soda fountain was out of a lot of different drinks and they also had not stocked straws or lids. Got what appeared to be a family enough for 2-3 people 3 meat foil pan order of brisket, ribs and chicken with sides of Mac and cheese and potato salad. Also had corn bread and slice of Texas toast style bread for ea serving. Requested mild sweet bbq sauce on the side also included Rub on ribs just a little too spicy for me ( but bbq sauce helped). Ribs could have had more meat? Brisket very good! Chicken very good Potato salad very good Mac and cheese just add a little salt and very good Texas toast not really toasted much Corn bread I could somewhat taste the baking powder? The service was a joke. Wanted the Motherload, but they were supposedly out of turkey and wouldn't substitute. The lady got an attitude and said her manager wouldn't let them substitute. If you do not have all the food required either substitute or let people know before they order. The food really isn't that good anyway. Too expensive and staff attitude have destroyed what once was a great place. I average three to four days a week getting food there, but never again. read more

This review is only on the staff at the Miller Rd. location, and I hope that the manager reads and shares this with them. We stopped yesterday, dined in. The girl that took our order was completely lackluster, bored, and talked so softly we had to ask her twice to please speak up (between the mask, plastic and room noise it was just impossible to hear her). We said thank you, she didn't say a word back. The young man that brought our food to the table simply sat it down and walked away. Again, completely lackluster, bored and no social skills at all. We hired City Barbeque for our 50th Wedding Anniversary party and they did a fantastic job from taking our order, answering our questions and confirming the order a few days before the event! On the day of the event the server arrived as scheduled , had everything set up and ready to go in about 10 minutes and we ate at our planned meal time. Reminder to customers: ALWAYS check to make sure your order is correct. It's apparently too hard to hire workers that can actually read. I ordered the Lola pork sandwich and paid extra for the Texas toast instead of a regular bun. BUT STILL ONLY GOT THE REGULAR BUN. NO TEXAS TOAST ON THE SANDWICH OR THE SIDE. We have gone to City BBQ on Henderson Rd, for many years. We also have bought gift cards very easily online for years for our family there. The food is fantastic, and even bought their sauce for gifts, BUT impossible to get a $100 gift card online after trying for 2 hours. We even called City BBQ Corporate, and she said we have to change out computer settings to change my address and credit card...no luck! Every time we tried it, added another $100 (now to $500!) and could not change it After many years as a loyal customer from N. Newly opened and I cannot say enough good things about this place. Located on Miller Lane, Dayton, Ohio, where the Steak and Shake previously stood (I miss them too) with plenty of well lit parking, friendly service, especially Jane who took my order, and some of the best tasting food I've ever had. I started with a beef brisket sandwich with regular bbq sauce (they have 3 or 4 sauces to choose from), which was out of this world tasty, loaded onto the perfectly chosen freshly toasted bun, which did not taste like a lot of bread. So tender, hot, and plentiful for $8.99. The cole slaw was mouth watering and fresh, as was the 3 cheese Mac and cheese. For desert I enjoyed the banana pudding which was excellent. Fast service inside, nicely packaged, and still warm when I arrived home. Nice to know that there is still a restaurant that obviously cares about their business and tries hard to meet the appreciative public standards. I'm sold on this place!! read more
