Recent visit went well. No issues except they were out of the sweet bbq bottles (for sale) which is fine because I like the spicy too. Food came out quick. The Nashville hot chicken didn't seem right but maybe it was me. Not what I remember it to be. Had the vinegary taste of buffalo sauce from a jar... was it always this way? Other than that, it was fine. I probably won't order the Nashville hot again. read more

I ordered takeout from City Barbecue for Father's Day. I ordered the Two Meats/Two Sides meal. Specifically, the smoked sausage, pulled pork, green beans, and cole slaw. The order came with a slice of Texas toast topped with garlic butter. There also was a packet of utensils and a cup of their barbecue sauce. The pulled pork was probably the best item. It was tender and tasted good but didn't have any particular smoke flavor to me. With the addition of the barbecue sauce, I really liked it. However, it seemed like a relatively small portion. The sausage had a firm casing and tasted good although again I'm didn't detect much of a smoked flavor. I added mustard to mine. The green beans were well cooked, which I appreciate and didn't require additional salt. The cole slaw was nice and creamy but did have a few chucks of cabbage that could've been chopped better. Everything was packaged together carefully and placed in a plastic bag. The sausage, pulled pork and Texas toast came in a plastic container that said it was microwaveable. The green beans and cole slaw came in styrofoam cups. Overall, I would give this establishment three stars. The food was good but nothing spectacular. Prices were reasonable and they did package everything very well. If I come here again, I will most likely opt for the pulled pork only. I liked it the best and wish the combo meal had came with more. read more

A good local place. One the best chicken sandwiches around Dayton. Be careful it's spicy. The pulled chicken sandwich didn't have anything in it. But the sauces were good. The sides hush puppies, coleslaw and Mac and cheese. All of them were good. Haven't tried the BBQ yet. read more

Have always liked city barbecue, but this location is not good. I've been half a dozen times and maybe one of those have been problem free. I always go in and place my orders unless I am doing catering. The cuts of meat are so inconsistent. I'm not sure if this is a staff issue or what. My order has been wrong multiple times and or cold when it comes out I've never received an apology or a refund. It's too bad. After a hard day of work and no time to eat, I decided to indulge in some City Barbeque. I had been craving the smoky BBQ taste for some time and didn't know if there were any good places that served that within a close distance to my apartment. At least, close enough to DoorDash. Seeing their menu, I wanted to try all of their meats and figured to go with the Motherload. An order of Beef brisket, pulled pork, turkey breast, two sausages, a half slab of ribs, a half bird, six individual sides, cornbread, and Texas toast. Figured an order like that would last me a few days of food, and with all of the good reviews I read and the unshakable BBQ craving, I took a chance with it. For the sides I got 2 corn puddings, collard greens, hush puppies, mac and cheese, and a salad. Everything tasted so good! The meat was so tender and juicy, the hush puppies were so crispy and soft on the inside, the smoky BBQ taste I've been craving for was satisfied with the leg quarter and ribs. Even the turkey was moist! As delicious as everything was, the leg quarter and ribs take the cake. The ribs easily peeled off the bone and the chicken was really juicy. The Texas toast was a nice crispy touch to make a sandwich out of the brisket and pulled pork (which were irresistible too). The cornbread and corn pudding were tasty and the cornbread was moist and a bit crumbly. I'd say the least liked food was the mac and cheese. Didn't seem like it was cooked from scratch but more like from a quick meal box. And the tray of brisket, turkey, and pulled pork seemed like it didn't have as much meat as expected.  Food great, the order was delivered very quickly, and lasted me a few days. Definitely plan on ordering it again the next time I'm craving BBQ. read more

Poor service Poor training I tried to order the Judge's Sampler. The very young employee informed me they were out of brisket. Ok, I can understand that...but when I asked what can I replace the brisket with...the result...deer in headlights. If they were a computer it would the famous windows blue-screen. The city bbq on dorothy lane in kettering has a drive thru. Used it for the first time today. Nate was the employee who took my order bhe had asuch a friendly voice and you could tell he was smiling on the other end while taking my order. The food was accurate. Still hot when I got it home. All of the food is great here. You can't go wrong with the cow bell or just a pulled pork sandwich. They give enough fries to share. Some love the cornbread pudding but I like the green beans with bacon. The service is good and most orders are correct. Ask for extra barbecue sauce if ordering takeout because they don't typically give enough. read more

We arrived at 6:30 on a Wednesday night, and they were out of ribs! What the freak? What time does one have to get here in order to get ribs? The cashier said something about them running a rib special on Tuesday night. So if they sell a lot on Tuesday, they don't replenish their supply of same for Wednesday night? Does this make sense to you? They were virtually out of original bbq sauce in the two squeeze bottles! Again....at 6:30? You have to ask for pickles and butter (COVID policy still in effect). The tried to make up for the lack of ribs, but when you go to a barbecue joint looking for ribs and they don't have any early in the evening.... It's hard to make it good! I'm partial to the pulled pork with the hot bbq sauce. But the star of the show here are the side dishes: Mac & cheese, green beans, collared greens and my favorite, corn pudding . What a great location. Downtown Centerville is so lovely. The aroma of the smoker that wafts from the building as you walk up is quite the treat. The Folks working here are super nice. Service is quick so that's always a plus. The bbq is pretty tasty for it being what I refer to as 'fast foods bbq'. We love the brisket so we pretty much stay with that. I've had the pork, the ribs, the chicken and the sausages but always seem to stick with the brisket. The bbq sauces are a bit sweet but the flavor is decent. The sides... the corn pudding and the hush puppies are what I'd recommend but they are all tasty. read more

We eat food from here no less than once a week. The meats are delicious, especially the brisket. The "More Cowbell" sandwich is THE best sandwich going. Use their app to order & get points that add up to gift certificates. They also give registered customers a free dessert on birthdays and anniversaries. I inexplicably received a $25 certificate on two different occasions. The atmosphere at the restaurant and with any employee is a welcoming down home country feel. This is one of my favorite chain bbq restaurants. They have good bbq chicken and brisket. The sweet tea is also spot on every time. My kids are picky eaters and particular about their mac and cheese but they love it here. They also like the cornbread. Really good BBQ. This was our first time here. The ribs didn't even need sauce and I tend to put sauce on everything. They were fall off the bone and seasoned perfectly. The cornbread was amazing and so were the beans. The portions were large so you will have left overs. For the quality and amount of the food I thought the prices were extremely reasonable. read more

I had to be pulled, almost kicking and screaming, to this place. I reluctantly agreed to go, and I'm surprised by how much I enjoy it. Your meal can be as healthy or as unhealthy as you want; they have a good variety of calorie options. While I'm not fond of the smokey scent that leaves a (literal) lasting impression after you leave, the food was definitely worth it, and I'll be coming back - much more happily next time. PROS: -Tons of delicious BBQ sauces to enjoy with your food. I think a couple of them are seasonal offerings that they switch out on a regular basis, but they have some staples too. -Food is pretty affordable. Nothing particularly expensive about this place. My food partner and I were able to sit down and enjoy a full meal for the two of us with an alcoholic drink for less than $25. Nobody left hungry. -Service was insanely fast too. We ordered, and by the time we had finished scanning our credit card and opening our beer, our tray of food was ready to go. The next person in line hadn't even finished their order yet. THAT was intensely fast service! -Seating is relatively limited, type-wise. There's just a bunch of tables without much variety. However, during a weekend lunch hour, we were able to get one of the two open tables. You might run a bit short during peak hours, but it wasn't too bad. If you don't like tables, you'll have to suck it up, though. That's all they have. -Food was REALLY good. My food partner loves their brisket. I really enjoyed their chicken. It's perfectly moist and not that dry. Their texas toast is REALLY good. I'm pretty "meh" on their Mac and Cheese, though, but it could be a good companion if you have really heavily-seasoned BBQ sauces. I'd come back and focus on the texas toast and shredded chicken. CONS: -If you love the smell of smoking, you're in luck. After a 30 minute lunch here, my hair and clothing smelled like a campfire for the rest of the day. I could even smell it in the shower the next morning. Even with such a short meal, the scent of that place really sticks with you. -This particular location is located in the center of Centerville. City Barbeque has a dedicated parking lot, but it isn't particularly huge. We got the last spot in the lot - and only because the person had just pulled out. We order from the Centerville location about once a week. Staff are always friendly and the food never disappoints. on Fri 10th, they had dozens of to-go orders, like 2large church groups, a bus full of teenagers, and it was packed. Staff had our orders ready except mine only because they hard run out of ribs. I didn't have to ask, the manager just showed up and took care of anything I needed. She didn't even break a sweat. I checked this place out on a recent business trip... And returned THREE times! So yeah...i dig it here. The ribs were tender and I adore that they have a bevy of sauces to dress up the dry rub racks. Sides were yum-o. The corn pudding is everything. Greens...as little firmer than I like but the flavors were there (and so were the meaty bits) Throw some vinegar based "swine wine"on them? Superb. The best(and my favorite) thing about this place is the service. Every single person is so friendly and eager to please. When you step into the place you order at the counter... I stopped on Wednesday 9/23 around Noon. I was greater with a friendly Hello: the atmosphere was clean, friendly, wide variety of choices on the menu, fairly priced, fast service. I'm not from the area and I like to try new BBQ places. I got the City Sampler with baked beans and Mac N Cheese. I added the Pumpkin Spiced Pudding. All meats had a nice smoke ring. The Turkey was moist and tender. The Pulled Pork was done to perfection with some good bark. The Brisket had good pull to it, good bark, moist. The Sausage had good spice to it, and good snap to the casing. The Baked Beans were some of the best I've ever had. They were filled with lots a flavor. The Mac N Cheese could've been a little creamier, but that's just me. The Pumpkin Spiced Pudding is hands down one of the Top 5 ever desserts I've ever had! WOW! Full of flavor, crunch, perfect balance. I HIGHLY recommend going to City BBQ! I'll be back the next time I'm in the area for work. Until then, keep on smokin'! read more
