Celebrated a friend's birthday at Citrico, and it was solidly average as far as birthday brunches go. We were a party of eight and had a prix-fixe menu. The botanas (appetizers) included chips and guacamole, along with flautas de pollo. Both were good, though I wish they had provided more chips and guacamole given the size of our group. The next course was tacos, with each person getting a baja fish taco and a filet mignon taco. The baja fish was the highlight of the meal--fresh and crisp. The filet mignon was disappointing, a bit tough and lacking flavor. For entrees, we had a choice between the smash burger and the pollo campero. I got the pollo, and while it was cooked well, it was a little plain, though the mango chipotle sauce helped. The smash burger wasn't a hit at the table. Both the bun and patty were small and were giving store bought. What redeemed what would have otherwise been a below-average experience was the drinks. The margarita selection seemed endless, and I was a huge fan of the ones I tried. The cool spicy and the prickly pear were both standouts. The infused tequila shots were also great--and only $8 each. The Valencia orange tequila, in particular, was excellent. Table service was hit-or-miss. While the servers were all friendly, drink timing was inconsistent--sometimes arriving in five minutes, other times taking up to thirty. The food, however, came out at a steady pace. They did forget to put in one entree, but they quickly realized the mistake, apologized, and it arrived about ten minutes after everyone else's. I would definitely come back to Citrico to enjoy and explore more of their margaritas, though the food feels like an afterthought. read more

Went twice. Once for dinner on a Friday night. Honestly walking in it was not friendly vibes at all. The host looked upset that we were there. I let her know now as ok with a table outdoors if she had any and she didn't pay any one to me. She just walked us over to a table. The waitress also had an attitude. She didn't seem to want to bother with us. She didn't come to check up on us at all's we needed having a waiter take over which he was somewhat nicer. 2nd time the next weekend I went with my girls had brunch but again once we got in the vibes were off it was the same host there. She sat us down and I told the girls about my last experience so we decided to just get drinks one appetizer and leave to our favorite spot in Brooklyn instead (ainslie) Now the drinks are amazing. Flavorful strong 10/10 Maybe I'll come back and just sit at the bar and feel out the vibes. read more

I can here on a whim on a Sunday afternoon at almost 2pm and hour before the happy hour special was to end. My friend and I did the bottomless tacos and drinks. The tacos that I would typically order, Birra or Asada were not included. Each serving of tacos came with 2 so my friend and I ordered 1 order of all tacos that were available in special. I certainly would not recommend the chicken and the fish taco did not meet expectations. It had potential but is was fried batter. To my suprise the best one that was really good was the taco campana, which is an American hard shell taco. The drinks were decent especially to be part of the special, and they will sneak up on you. They provide quality services and was attentive but I will say there were not many people. The real star was the overall vibe and decor. Sitting there made me feel like I should have been sitting on a beach club somewhere in the Caribbean. I would give a strong 3.5 (but since there are no half stars, lets round up) as I only had a very limited part of there menú. We got here around Sunday 1pm and they were packed. We fortunately were able to get a table after waiting a few minutes but things seem busy perhaps because of their $40 tacos/cocktails brunch deal? We ordered 2 orders of the filet mignon tacos which are tender and well seasoned. These are my wife's favorite tacos here and I could see why. We also got the nachos with ground beef and they toss this beforehand, so that the cheese is evenly spread but actually didn't get soggy. Rosemary blush and cucumber fizz were both good; the Moscow mule was good too but a little too intense with the raspberry for my preference. For dessert, we got the horchata donut which comes in hot! Legit one of the best dining experiences I've ever had! We went on a Thursday night for my best friend's bday. We made reservations and got seated immediately. They were playing live salsa music for 2.5 hours. So lovely and fun. People dancing but still felt very intimate. The food was SOOO goood. We had the corn ribs, kale Caesar salad, nachos, chicken tacos and butternut squash tacos. The flavor palette is insane here!! The service was SO fast and everyone was extremely attentive. Lina was amazing! We stayed all night and had a blast. The mocktails are splendid and my friend enjoyed her drinks and the prices are not bad at all!!!!! The food was really good at Citrico. We ordered corn ribs, nachos with steak, enchiladas with crab and shrimp, and carnitas tacos. I was blown away by the corn ribs and enchiladas. Would totally go back for those and also try the fish tacos for sure. Now, what we did not expect was the extremely slow service. We asked for a water refill that we never received. We asked for to-go containers which took forever. Upon getting seated, the server sat us at a table temporarily and asked us to move to the corner table after it was cleaned. It felt really disjointed to us. Perhaps it was an off night and there is usually more than one server? The table beside us also waited over 30 minutes for their dessert. We will consider ordering food from here in the future because it was done well. I do hope this isn't the typical experience. read more

I went here for brunch with a few friends on a weekend. We did the unlimited taco and cocktail deal for 90 minutes. It's a great deal for $40 and the tacos are so good. My favorite tacos were the summer squash and the chicken tacos. The summer squash tacos had a layer of crispy melted cheese and the chicken was marinated well. The cocktails were solid. The cocktails included in the deal are limited beer, mimosas, sangria, and frozen margaritas or mezcalitas. Flavors are available for an extra cost. Frozen beverages would be great for the summer, but we couldn't drink too many of them in December. We made a reservation, but the restaurant wasn't too busy that you wouldn't be able to find a seat walking in. I really liked the ambiance and the decorations. The vibe is upbeat, bright and boho-chic. I also really liked their glassware for drinks. The service was really fast and friendly. They were really attentive initially, but became less so into the brunch even though the crowd was pretty consistent throughout brunch. read more

We went for brunch on a Saturday at 11am and it wasn't crowded at all. The staff was really nice and it's a very clean and spacious restaurant. The brunch food wasn't great. The torta was nothing special and a little dry. And the chilaquiles tortilla chips were all soggy. So the main dishes weren't enjoyable. BUT the star of it all was the Horchata Donut. I'm glad we stuck through it and ordered it at the end of the meal. It was warm and had a nice crunchy shell yet the inside was soft and fluffy. The ice cream paired perfectly with it and what I assume is a sprinkle of tajin on top added a little tang that complemented the flavor so well. I also appreciate that they give you the donut hole as well :) Overall, I'd go back for the donut in a heartbeat. And maybe I could be convinced to try some dishes off their dinner menu. read more

First time trying this place. On the way to MOMI and looked for a good place close by. Pictures looked great on Yelp. The place looked nice enough when we arrived. Hostess not the friendliest but okay. Ordered Nachos and Enchiladas. Nachos came out first. Hard to mess up Nachos but these were quite bad. More like ballpark or theater Nachos than what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. So much poured on cheese and almost nothing else. Chips were soggy. Gross. We could not eat them, and I love Nachos. 20 minutes later the Enchiladas came out. Enchiladas flavor was okay, but they were barely room temperature warm. And the music was so loud! DJ playing like it was midnight in the club, but it was 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon at a brunch restaurant. Really wanted to like, but it was an unexpectedly weird and bad, but not cheap, brunch experience. read more

Im taking off one star due to the experience I had towards the end of the night but overall this place is AMAZING! It is absolutely so beautiful and calm here. I went on a Thursday night for my sisters birthday with her best friend. We were seated right away in their second level area that overlooks the restaurant (remember that part) and were lucky to catch happy hour. We took advantage of the drinks and $1 oysters. The entrees were to die for. All of our dishes were delicious. For dessert we acted like we were ordering something but it was for them to sing her happy birthday and it was so cute. We were able to catch a live salsa band and that fillllllled my heart! I'm a heavy salsa lover. Being that we were seated above and behind the band, another waiter came and told us to move to the bar which we went to do until our waiter came and stood infront of me and demanded I pay our bill. She said we aren't allowed to move tables unless we pay. I told her we were just moving down to the bar and are actually going to order more drinks. But she refused and was even pushing the paying terminal towards me. I just paid and we ended up leaving after that happened. It just left such a sour feeling. That was so weird. Never experienced that. I don't know if she thought we weren't going to pay- but was not the case at all. I'd still recommend the place. Just take that into account I guess read more

We stopped in here for quick bite for my birthday it was our first time trying this restaurant . I made a reservation and we were seated right in front of the door. This wouldn't really be an issue but it's the path the servers use to wait the tables outside and there's people also arriving for dinner not to mention the door stays open so it got pretty cold. My husband was bumped by a few people coming in, and it was such an odd place for a table. I looked to see if there was another option but there really wasn't any other options that were better since it looked like most tables were for larger parties. They had two high tops open but they were super close to each other and there's just no space without being on top of other patrons. The drinks we ordered were not good and lacked flavor. The appetizer we ordered which was the tuna tostada was one small tortilla with tuna and avocado. Appetizers usually are shareable this was not, my husband and I were picking little pieces off of one tortilla. This appetizer was also $20 which I honestly was way overpriced for what we received. It was very beautiful inside and the staff were nice , unfortunately the food and drinks were lacking. read more

The ambiance is beautiful at this Cafe across from Kaufman Astoria Studios. Beautiful chandeliers and ceilings. Service was good, except we kept being approached for our order. Give us a few minutes please. We also were told near the end of our dinner (which we ordered off the Happy Hour menu) that there was a 90 minute time limit on our reserved table. The hostess, while very sweet, went to show us where it was on the menu. It wasn't there. Turns out it was on their older menus. We were almost done and she had no problem, but I thought that was kinda rude. The food was really interesting, but good. I had 2 dozen oysters ($1.50 each during Happy Hour), a Birria taco and a fish taco. So good! The Strawberry Margarita was meh. Found this spot by chance, and I'm so glad I did! It ended up being such a hidden gem. We arrived just after brunch hours had ended--so unfortunately, we missed it this time around--but that just gives me the perfect excuse to come back! Although our server was nice and friendly, it took her 10 mins to take our drink orders and another 15 mins to come back and take our food order. Tucked away on a quieter avenue far from the busy Broadway bustle, you will find where people go for birthdays, bachelorettes, anniversaries and date nights at Citrico. The party vibe transforms the venue into that of another city, nostalgic of Miami or Mexico City. The food is some of the trendiest you'll find on the block and in the neighborhood. On Friday nights you'll find the DJ spinning his latest hits, multiple sparklers lighting up big cakes and a photographer visiting every table offering to capture the moment. This is definitely a place for celebrations and special occasions, but probably not a quiet night out. Though the taco trio platters are a must, I highly recommend the mushroom chicharron--it is unlike anything I've ever tried. Perfectly umami, sweet, spicy and savory. It was tempting not to get three more! The birria tacos come with au jus and are a true highlight, as are the Baja fish tacos that come perfectly battered and topped with picked onion, salsa fresca and avocado. I also recommend the guac to start, which is a generous portion and very well made. Their menu has some fantastic vegetarian options that are so delicious! Definitely recommend the corn ribs, cauliflower either in entree or tacos, and vegetarian enchiladas. Some standouts are also the unique dessert options. Our server suggested the blueberry cornbread and dulce de leche cheesecake and the plates were licked clean! Citrico is a real gem in Astoria that has earned its success and likely continue to draw in big crowds for memorable nights out. This place was really nice. The service was okay, our waitress forgot a few orders but it was a busy night. Food was good however, i ordered the same tacos as my friends and only asked for the refried beans to be taken off but my taco missed way more than what was asked of. My tacos were missing the crispy onions, cheese and 1 more thing that i cannot remember right now. PS, if you do bring in a cake and want it cut there, there is a 20 dollar cutting fee. They also did offer to hold the cake for you and you can take pics with it for free if you do not want the cake cut there. read more

What a wonderful brunch experience at Citrico Cafe. We were welcomed by the host and transported elsewhere by the beautiful decor. The resturant was bright and airy with the skyroofs. We ordered apps - corn ribs were crisp and full of flavor, the nachos was a show stopper in presentation and taste. Drinks were strong. My only compliant a virgin drink was the same as a margarita with alcohol..how sway? Our mains were soo good. My brazino was seasoned to perfection, light and crispy. The Tacos as 3 per order which is way better than how it was at my last visit. The Baja Fish Tacos were fried to a beautiful golden brown, the batter was so seasoned and even had a slight kick to it. The coleslaw and avocado added freshness to each bite and cut through the heaviness of the batter. The Queso Birria Tacos were also so savory, rich, and smoky. She did not wash her hands during the three hours i sat at the bar. She touched her blonde hair, eyes, raw eggs, apron, cards, money, rags, bottles, etc and just kept going. I moved to Astoria about 1 1/2 years ago from DC. Citrico is located across the street from Kaufman Studios on 34th street. The food has been very good, I have ordered a variety of tacos (Pork shoulder, shrimp, fish... ) everything has been good. Also the service has been excellent (I have been there 5 times) each time I ate at Citrico. They refill water glasses constantly and are pretty friendly. The BARTENDER is great, drinks are reasonable priced compared to the often $20+ drinks in Manhattan & Queens. And the drinks contain more alcohol (mezcal, curacao) than other Queens and Manhattan restaurants (at least from my somewhat limited experience). Every drink has been good. Five stars for the MANAGER, waiters and everyone have been terrific. I met the manager (Enrique, I think) who came by our table to say hello. Great guy, I think he runs/manages the restaurant well. The waiters and waitresses are pretty friendly and they seem happy to be working at Citrico. They also have a DJ who plays certain nights (not sure of schedule) inside the restaurant. I have eaten inside which is very nice, but it can be a bit loud, at least for me:) If you are in your 20s 30s ... you will not notice the noise. I like the outside room. You can watch the sun set and it is quieter. HAPPY HOUR - I think it lasts till 7:00 and it may start at 4:00, but please check that, because I'm not sure. RESERVATIONS - I would recommend making a reservation. We didn't have one and the restaurant was pretty busy. When we told the hostess we weren't sure if she was going to "find" a table, even though there were a number of empty tables. Anyways another woman who knows us, saw us and got us a great table. So if you have this problem just be patient & ask for a specific table. And if you don't get what you want ask to speak to the manager, Enrique. I don't have photos, but will try to post some later. Best corn ribs in Queens! Whenever I come here I order them. It's really hard to share them, because they are that good. Honestly everything I've had here is absolute fire. From the Coca Cola short rib tacos to their amazing drink menu. This spot specifically specializes in mezcal drinks. I don't love mezcal and sometimes I ask them to switch to regular tequila and they are always willing to abide by my request. The staff is always accommodating. The place itself is a vibe. It's just simply beautiful. They also have an enclosed outdoor seating area that's just as nice as the inside of this spot. They are also located across from Kaufman studios. She was totally rude did not seat me, went on to seat the guests behind me. I walked out, which was great because I ended up in Mayahuel restaurant. I was in the area for the Museum of Moving Images and was looking for a good spot to eat. Citrico was recommended and did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious. The guacamole was very fresh with the right hint of spice. My son couldn't keep his hands out the bowl. The corn ribs had amazing flavor. No food was left over lol. My friend and son can both agree that it was worth every dollar. The service was very good. They were checking in but not in an overbearing way. They brought out the food quickly and were very polite. The ambiance was extremely chill at that time, however I can tell it's a place that probably attracts a crowd. Miami and Mexico made a baby in Astoria and Citrico Cafe was born. This Mexican cafe and agaveria offers New Mexican cuisine with a creative flare. The dishes are vibrant, the space is gorgeous and you don't even realize for a moment where you're at since it feels like you're somewhere tropical and high end. The food is so delicious and vibrant and for sure something you won't forget. Portions aren't huge, you might leave a little hungry but either way, it's delicious. We totally missed their happy hour specials until 7pm (Mon-Fri), they even have a late night happy hour from 11pm-12am (Weds-Mon) and all day happy hour on Tuesdays - fun! I had the chicharrones de hongo quesadilla which my brain is still talking about. They weren't the usual quesadillas we're used to but more of the traditional Mexican ones, using fresh made tortillas, delicious mushroom and melted Oaxaca cheese. The drinks (for most of our table of 5) were pretty underwhelming **sadly**. They weren't terrible, but they just were extremely forgettable. My 2024 obsession! Legit come here 2x a month and I get their seafood flight every damn time. Btw I'm not even a seafood girlie.. at all. But their oysters?! Perfect combo of citrus and spice. Gaucarita sounds weird but also so so good! Service is ok - but not bad, just nothing has stuck out to me. But the ambiance is super nice. Perfect GNO or date night & usually have a Dj playing some nice background music on the weekends. HIGHLY recommend.
