The Vogue - Aimee Mann on stage!

She was being her funny and skinny and calm self, playing some of her songs from her Lost in Space album, which, at this point, is like an appendage of my body in musical form. Her album is a part of me. The Vogue is a small venue, but not extremely so. There is balcony seating, and a bar in the balcony, but you need to pay extra for this area. General admission is downstairs, and it's standing-room only. I know on the website it says that a general admission ticket grants you access to the upstairs, but when I went up there, I was immediately told that the tables were for people who paid extra. I considered paying the extra however-much-it-costs so I could sit down, but I decided to thug it out and found a corner downstairs, on the side by the stairs, to post up. Even though I was standing to the side, I still had a great view! I've seen Aimee Mann in concert one other time (she played at Royce Hall in Los Angeles with Rufus Wainwright, a long time ago), but I had never been this close to her. It was an amazing experience. There's a big bar downstairs, and they were super quick to get me my plastic cup of Moscow mule. FYI: This is not the place to get wine! They have a couple of cans of wine, but nothing in a bottle. They mostly have beer and mixed drinks. Before the concert, I was looking at all of the photos lining the walls of the bands and musicians who have played at The Vogue. It's impressive! This music venue has a long history. Lots of people have played at this humble place in Broad Ripple, which is pretty cool.

My friend and I came here for the Jesse McCartney concert and had a blast…read more The room is spacious but there are no seats at the lower level. It's all standing so you can feel like a can of sardines. They were offering upgrades to the second floor which we happily took. The upstairs is very spacious and has a bar so you don't have to go back downstairs into the crowd. I do like how there is a bar to sit your drinks at the railing so you can sit and have a more relaxed time. I will happily come back to the Vogue

The steak was my favorite and it was absolutely delicious. Tender meat accompanied by a bright raspberry sauce, comforting potatoes, and fresh broccolini. Our server offered to butterfly the steak so we could each get the cook temp we preferred- what a wonderful suggestion! My husband enjoyed both dishes, but I preferred the steak. The lentil base had great flavors and would be a good choice for people that like soft textures. The flourless chocolate cake was delightful too. I love the beautiful interior design of the room and the would recommend a show there to anyone for a special occasion.

Bar - bartenders were very friendly and drinks were tasty. Food - it was a sushi spread with a few desserts. Staff were not familiar with gluten free, which was a bit surprising with an upscale spot. Sushi and dessert eaten were delightful though. Sound/setup - you could hear presenters from any area with no problem. Con - since this was for an event, there was quite a bit of standing around for networking at the start of the event. The area is not conducive to this type of interaction.

During the night of my visit I saw a solo artist with a small band. The sound quality was quite good with very little feedback. I enjoyed sitting at the cabaret style tables toward the back. I also attended the annual bourbon tasting at Turntable. In addition to concerts and shows, they can host some special events as well. The space is not big so don't expect to cramp too many people in there. The Vogue is an iconic venue in Indy but Turntable has its merits also. The vibe is definitely different and I enjoyed seeing a more chill show in there. They have multiple events every week so keep an eye out on their calendar.

Turntable is kind of an ideal size for seeing a show, with a capacity of up to 400 (depending on…read morewhether there is seating) and a pretty good sound setup. But I do want to add a couple caveats to that (and out myself as a cranky old man). We saw a sold-out show here recently and found it to be just too damn crowded for the allotted space, which limited our enjoyment of the music and also made me think it's not terribly safe. We did end up finding an intimate spot by a garbage bin near the back where we could sort of see the stage and chit-chat with the drunkards who were also back there for easy access to the bar. And we were definitely happier there than we would have been near the stage, where everyone had to sacrifice elbow room and the option of a bathroom trip in favor of a better view. We would have been a little happier in the premium seating (which was sold out before I was able to book), but, lesson learned. I'd just rather be at a place where capacity is more limited but the setup is geared toward ensuring the audience has a little more comfort.
