I normally don't write reviews when I'm happy simply because I forget to follow up. The sports ticket staff met us when we arrived and showed us everything we needed to know to have a good time. Michael, Carolynn & Taylor were so awesome that we really are glad we went. Our Derby box was excellent even though the weather was not! We were dry and out of the rain, and the hotel was pretty cool. We met a few jockeys and trainers at the hotel and had some mint juleps with the MyTicketsQuick concierge staff. All in all, a really great time. We will probably go again next year and we would definitely use these guys again. Very nice folks and surprisingly personal service.

This is a nice family event, just outside of Indianapolis. They normally hold it at Anson Acres…read morePark, annually, over a weekend in late April/ early May. It has tons of space and has a nice set up. Tickets are $5 per person, with kids 2 and under free. Tickets can be purchased on line or at the gate with cash or card. Parking here is easy, but you may have to walk a bit to get to the gate. I had about a half to quarter mile walk. They have inflatables available for the littles to play, but they were uncomfortably packed. My littles still had a good time playing on them though. The festival is full of food and drink vendors as well as merchandise vendors. You can purchase live action role play (LARP) swords, horns, furs, cups, soap, honey, turkey legs, root beer, lemon or strawberry shake-ups, burgers and fries. There is a stage where they have a Celtic band playing as well as other acts like belly dancers and speakers. They also have a ring in the center of the field where they host LARP battles, next to the field is a fire that was pretty much blowing annoying smoke while I was there. Near the food vendors and to the side of the stage, there are picnic tables under a shelter and tall tables placed in the open field. There are a few spaces that are designated for kids to learn how to sword fight with the LARP swords and learn how to use them. A little walk from the vendors and demo area is what they call Viking village. I think the role players actually live there over the weekend. The have a falcon and hawk handler back there and you will see them doing stuff like actually making dinner and marching to the LARP arena on the other side of the park. The park has a restroom facility, but the organizers have also added some port-a-pottys around the park for visitors. It was a good number because I did not have to wait to use them. For those of you that ate your Wheaties, the organizers host a keg throwing contest for kids, women and men. They use different sizes for different groups with the kids throwing a skillet and the men throwing a full size keg. There is also opportunities for adults to participate in archery and axe throwing. If you do visit, I will recommend a couple of things. First, get there early. You will get a better parking spot and have less of a crowd. Second bring one of those bag chairs. Seating here is limited and goes very quickly. Also, there are refills available on the shake-ups that you can get for almost half the price of the original purchase. Make sure to get your money's worth. Lastly, be aware that the merchandise you can be here is nice, but can be very expensive. I spent almost a $100 for a horn cup with a belt holster for one of my littles. This was a nice day and something different for my littles and I to do. The littles and I stayed here most of the day and the only thing that got us to leave was that they had to shut down due to lightning strikes nearby. I highly recommend checking out this event. At $5 per person, with free parking, it is a deal. You will definitely have lots of fun here. I cannot wait until next year.

Beer + outside + beer + friends + festival + Indiana beers = one of my favorite days of the year…read more We go to (*ahem*) quite a few beer festivals and other beer related events, and I must say that the Indiana Microbrewers Festival just keeps getting better and better every year. I love that it is in Military Park where you can catch some shade under the trees and there is plenty of space to walk around and enjoy whatever sample happens to be in your hand at the time. My favorite part? How else would it be possible to sample from 100+ breweries without it taking days and many miles on the ol' car? Fear not, my friend - you can use Microbrewers Fest (or "SummerFest" as I call it) as a way to get a taste of the breweries you have been meaning to visit and just haven't road tripped to yet. Conversely, it can also serve as a springboard for visiting a Brewery that you may not have otherwise after sampling their wares. Sweet action. What has changed and what has stayed the same? This year there was no VIP early entry, but you could get an Indiana Beer Brigade membership which came with special perks (a special tent with super secret special stuff, etc)... but there was no early entry for an additional fee as in years past. I DO like that you can get pre-banded at Hop Cat and bypass part of the entry lines, so that is cool. I LOVE that they release the map and the list of what some breweries are bringing early so the beer geek in me can scope out EXACTLY where we need to hit. My best advice? With 100+ breweries represented, NO ONE can possibly drink all the beers here. NO ONE. Don't try. Please. The best pro-tip I have is to sip and dump - if you don't love it, dump it. It will save you tummy space, calories, and room for other delicious samples... not to mention a less rocky recovery day after. Keep an eye on Indiana On Tap for all the latest festival info, fellow Craft Beer Lovers! See ya soon! (and a HUGE shout out to YELP INDY for the swag and for being AMAZING!! We had a blast!!)

Simply "walking around tasting beer" is a great plan, until you forget what you've tried and where you've been. Holy smokes is this an awesome event! This isn't your typical beer tasting event. Nooo sir. This is a bad ass, all out event with multiple tents spread over acres and acres of space. As for the beer.. the standard breweries you'd expect to see were there, such as your Oaken Barrel, Triton, Sun King, etc. In addition, places I had never heard of were all over the place too, sampling such creative selections as chocolate beer (which held true to it's advertising that it tasted like cocoa puffs) and strawberry basil beer, which started off with a strong basil flavor and then the subtleness of the strawberries came through in the end. Two hours and several pints in, this Yelper had to excuse himself before he drank so much he "Yelped" all over the place. Next year, I'll be sporting the pretzel necklace. The people who brought these are genius!

Here's my insight: This is for entering the complex from the south. There are two "alleys" that intersect each other at a right angle. The first alley is off Capitol close to 10th Street. It has an iron gateway which is easily identifiable. The other alley is off 10th Street. This one looks like it just dead ends into a garage door and it does, but that also where it intersects with the first alley. There's a small door next to the garage door which is the entrance. After entering you go through the door on the left to get to the main hallway. Wow that was a long way to explain entering the building, but once you know it's really simple. So... I went to the Holiday open house in December and it was amazing! The artists said the April one is even bigger but this was fantastic in its own right. There's 4 floors of artist, live music, food, and classic cars on display. If you enjoy attending First Friday gallery events this is a must try!
