I can honestly say I've never experienced more consistently excellent service anywhere else.

ONE OF MY NEW FAVORITES FOR AMERICAN FOOD NEAR MASS AVE…read more Union 50 came in clutch when my friends and I were looking for a last minute dinner reservation. Called at 6 and got a reservation for 8, for 5 of us on a Saturday night. This is kind of an anomaly for any restaurants off Mass Ave. We were seated right away and started with drinks and apps. We got "Disco Boys" and "I'm too pretty for this" cocktails which were tasty - kudos for the fun cocktail names. Calamari, Artisan, and Charcuterie came shortly after. There's a few different options of cheeses and meats, it's sort of a choose your own adventure situation. All were good, especially the calamari. A lot of restaurants tend to overcook it and the calamari gets rubbery, not the case here. Our entrees came out next and I made sure to try a bite of everyone's LOL. The standout of all the entrees was definitely the "Duck, duck" which was, obviously, duck. The runner up would definitely have to be the chicken cacciatore. Overall, really great ambiance, food, and service. I would highly recommend Union 50 if you're looking for something fancy, but not too fancy. If you're a Cunningham member, don't forget to give your phone # to the server to look up your account. Will definitely be back soon!

We shared the petit charcuterie, lamb meatballs, kimchi meatloaf, and the duck duck. Everything was amazing, I don't think you can go wrong with what you choose. We finished off with the house made chocolates, which was just the right amount of sweetness to end a wonderful meal. Highly recommend!

Thin crusts with the right amount of sauce, cheese and good quality toppings. Fair warning, specialty pizzas are only available during weekends. Simple topping pizzas on Mondays and Tuesdays. The highlight of our meal was the baked Brie. Warm, creamy and gooey cheese that was complimented well with a fig jam and baguette slices. The drink selection was great. Lots of variety and even frozen alcohol slushies. Service was great at the counter and very helpful in selecting food and drink items.

Confession: I'm not the biggest fan of Indiana wine. (This isn't actually a confession or a secret…read more I will gladly tell anyone who will listen that I don't like Indiana wine.) It's usually way too sweet for my palate, even the dry wine. But the wine I tasted at Urban Vines was really good! Could it be that I can no longer say that I don't like Indiana wine? If you like dry wine like I do, I suggest sticking to the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Those were the red wines that I chose for my wine flight, plus the Pinot Gris from the white wine section. These were all delicious and dry enough for me. (If we're really quibbling, they were still slightly sweeter than I like, but I realize Indiana wine can only go so dry.) Mostly, though, Urban Vines is ideal for people who like sweeter wines. The people who see "cotton candy" on the wine bottle and think, "Yes, this is what I want. I want my wine to taste like liquified sugar." That said, I did taste a sample of the Wine-A-Rita, which is a sweet wine infused with agave and lime, and served on ice. Whoo! That's a nice little sippin' drink. I could see killing a couple of glasses of that on a hot Indiana summer evening. I should also mention: The pours that they give you for the wine flights are generous! More than generous, actually. I am no wine lightweight, and I could feel the sweet and bitter fruits flowing nicely throughout my bloodstream by the time I took my last sip. Luckily, Urban Vines has food to offset all of the wine. I came for a pizza flight, but they weren't offering them when I visited, so I got the margherita pizza instead, which came with torn pieces of basil, marinated and roasted tomatoes, and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. It was very tasty! They also offer things like boards (veggie boards, breadstick boards, cheese boards, meat boards), plus salads and desserts. They also offer brunch on the weekends. This is a pleasant little place to hang out and enjoy wine and food. It's also family-friendly -- they have a small playground that's near the patio seating, so you can relax and also watch your kids play. Urban Vines is a nice place to unwind with some wine and food, and just enjoy the day.

You don't have to go to California or the Bourbon Trail for a great wine and bourbon tasting…read moreexperience because right in the little town of Zionsville is an amazing tasting bar. The bar is owned and locally operated by Ron Hopwood. Ron makes and bottles his own wines and bourbons. Most of the grapes are locally grown. I have passed by his bar for years because I was skeptical of Midwest wines until I had a bottle of his chardonnay at the local pizzeria. The chardonnay was so smooth and delicious, that I walked down the street to his tasting room. The cozy upscale bar is FILLED with Hopwood wines and bourbons. He offers tastings or you can buy a bottle or glass. and sit at one of his lovely tables and sip. He even sells charcuterie boards and dipping breads to pair with your wine. Awards for the wines cover a wall. Ron is most proud of winning the 2019 American Wine Societies award for best cabernet sauvignon. The wines are inexpensive and they offer special pricing to Club members. To be a member, one needs to commit to buying 2 bottles/month or 2 cases/year. It's such a great deal that I am going back over this week to join. Ron has special events for Club members! Hopwood is a great place to sneak away on a date or with your bff. Unfortunately, I did learn that Hopwood Cellars is closing its doors for good in June, so it was a good thing I came back to visit. Hopwood Cellars is one of the best wineries in Indiana that I have been to since living in Indianapolis. The owner is a great guy and very friendly and helpful to the customers. His staff is very knowledgeable on the wines, and the ambiance is beautiful. The Cabernet Sauvignon is my personal favorite wine. They also have a great Chardonnay as well. The winery does sell flights of wine so you can sample a few wines. The wine milkshakes are supposedly out of this world, so I would stop by before the end of June 2025 to try one, or else you will miss out on the opportunity. The bar area goes around the facility and is very nice. They have a wine sample card you can purchase to try a bunch of wines as well. The staff definitely knows what they are doing, and they are very professional on presenting the wines. I'm sad that Hopwood Cellars is closing this year because it was a good winery and one of my favorites in Indiana. I wish the owner nothing but the best, but I know he will succeed in whatever business he decides to do next. Farewell to Hopwood Cellars Winery! We will miss you!

I just saw a delightful production of Cinderella, with a delicious TV Dinner-inspired buffet of turkey and dressing, meatloaf, pot roast, pork loin, green beans, corn, peas and carrots, and mashed potatoes. These were preceded by their delicious broccoli salad and tossed salad, and even better than before yeast rolls with apple butter. There were also an apple crumble and peach cobbler (with a wonderfully buttery dough), as well as additional desserts that can be purchased for intermission. The new owners, Mark and Misty McGrady, have made sure to keep the atmosphere built by the founders, Donna and Richard Myers. As a returned Hillsboro native, Mark understands what this institution of over 25 years means to the area. They changed the broccoli salad slightly, just making it crunchier, and added a French salad dressing that had been served when a hotel restaurant occupied the space where the dining room/auditorium now is, in addition to Donna's original sweet and sour dressing for the tossed salad. Both were wonderful, like all the food. And then there's the price. Although the price is the same as another dinner theater about 56 miles east of them, for a weeknight show and seats on the very edge of the auditorium, the other place is $27 more than Myers for weekend evenings, in the center section (and that's ignoring that place's $5 surcharge for a 2-top, or $35 surcharge for the last row, which they call "box seats for two"). I have been there once, but Myers Dinner Theater is the one I keep returning to. While you're there, visit one of their uniquely decorated restrooms (whether you need to or not). My photographs of three of them should tell you why.
