I went to the dentist for the first time in 5 years and expected the worst. Dr Cioroiu performed a quick, but thorough examination complete with xrays and found there were no problems! Ya me! I was impressed with her professionalism and efficiency. Her examination was thorough and comprehensive, yet moved along quickly without feeling rushed. The sweet doctor Monica laughed at all my jokes and gave me a thorough test and cleaning (and did it herself instead of delegating to a dedicated in-house dental hygienist which is what all my previous dentists always did). She was kind, quick but efficient and her staff didn't even get impatient with me when I was 20 minute late. She's definitely not trying to find any extra stuff to bill on and seems pretty straightforward and easy to talk to. This office is a bit old fashioned.. no computer at the front desk, no online presence, I doubt they're even aware of this Yelp page. Which is a shame, because if they did they could try to balance out the bad reviews with good ones (which is what other dentists do). So don't let the low star rating scare you, just go and make the appointment. And if you REALLY want to get on her good side, wear something purple or pink! read more

I decided to make Dr. Cioroiu my primary dentist on my new dental plan based on favorable reviews I read around the web. I visited her office for a cleaning, and was disappointed at how rushed her work seemed. Cleaning and x-rays in 14 minutes. I certainly don't prefer to sit for extended periods in the dentist chair, but I expect my visit to the dentist to yield clean teeth. In comparison to other dentists, her work was rushed and incomplete. Maybe it was because I was the last patient of the day, but that isn't really an excuse to skimp on service. read more

I've been here twice - once for an annual check up and again 6 months later. She's flexible and getting and appointment is easy, her receptionist is nice, and she takes the time to chat with me while cleaning my teeth. She's very sweet, does a great job, and it's always a pleasant experience. I'm leaving NYC for a bit but when I get back I will definitely return. I trust her opinion, she certainly isn't one to do a bunch of unnecessary procedures. read more

Stay away - stay FAR away! Dr. Cioroiu is a sweet woman, but she is NOT a competent dentist. I came in for pain in a lower right molar and when I sat down in the chair, she was looking at two xrays. She proceeded to tell me that I had to horrendous cavities in my lower left molars and needed to have root canals done on both of them. I told her that wasn't possible because I had no pain whatsoever in that area, but she insisted. A minute later, her receptionist came in with my chart and Dr. C realized she was looking at someone else's chart. NOT MINE... THEN - she looked at my lower right molar and said I lost a filling. She needed to do some drilling, so she gave me a shot of Novocaine. A few minutes later, she just started drilling without even testing my gums to see if I was numb. She hit a nerve, and I almost jumped out of my seat. So, she gave me another shot - stabbing me in three different areas very painfully and then started drilling again almost immediately. She hit the nerve AGAIN. This time I was fighting the tears back and asking her what the heck was happening. She claimed to have never had this problem with anyone before. She gave me yet ANOTHER shot, and it STILL didn't work. Finally, I just sucked up the pain and let her finish. I was completely in tears. I left and got home to find half the filling fell out. I called my insurance company to lodge a complaint against this woman. She should NOT be practicing medicine. read more

I could not even talk to someone in the office. I called 4-5 times and only got their answering service during normal business hours. Their answering service would always pick up, but could not even tell me if she was accepting new patients. Very frustrating...Seems it's better this way after reading the other reviews! read more

Only had my teeth cleaned there, but she seems fine to me--gone there a half dozen times over the last few years. Never makes you wait a long time, teeth feel clean when I am done, never felt like she was rushing (she seems to go over every tooth twice during cleaning) never had any problem speaking with anyone on the phone... read more

I have been seeing Dr. Cioroiu for 8 plus years. The basement office is a bit off-beat but clean. The Dr. is friendly and cooperative with my special needs. I go every 2 years or so and no problems were found. Another Dentist told me 13 years ago that 2 teeth would need root canals asap or bad things would happen. When I went to Dr. Cioroiu, she said she didn't see anything requiring work and to keep an eye on the crowns in general. Time has proven her correct. read more

My experience was similar. The office was gross as in dusty, unkept and unclean. I probably should have run at that point, but I proceeded. First off the dentists was not friendly and did the cleaning, or her version of a cleaning, herself. There was no hygienist! She used a water pick to clean my teeth, which I understand, but had it on what I can assume was the highest setting. It was so painful! I was bleeding pretty badly. When I mentioned a spot I thought a cavity might be growing she insisted on full x-rays, but then barely glanced at them and said you have beautiful teeth, no cavity and walked out of the room. After she didn't come back for awhile, I got us and left, checking with the receptionist that I was done. The cavity spot persisted to bother me, so I went and got a second opinion, sure enough, I had a full blown cavity and two more she had missed. DO NOT go to this woman. She should be reviewed by the dental board and stripped of her credentials. read more

Agreed. I went to this dentist because she would take me immediately and I was having tooth pain. It's true, her waiting room couches are filthy. She seemed nice enough and I was having tooth pain so I was grateful to be there. She took a couple of x-rays, looked briefly and said well, it looks like your filling is too close to the nerve, you're going to have to get a root canal. I asked her if she thought the tooth was cracked, and she said no, it's a problem with the filling and she couldn't do anything about it because if she tried she would hit my nerve- a root canal was in order. I asked if she could do anything about the pain, and she said no. She referred me to an endodontist and she was right about one thing- I needed that root canal. The endodontist gave me a second opinion and turns out the tooth was cracked as I had feared. Enough for him to put that metal spikey thing into it. How could any dentist LOOKING at a tooth miss a crack that big? And it's true, her cleaning was embarrassing. I could have done a better job. A five year old could have done a better job. She hardly passed the cleaner over my teeth and plenty of tooth surfaces were missed. The upside of all of this is that she did refer me to a very good endodontist for the root canal- I'll write a review on Dr. Scheuerman after this. I have to go back to a regular dentist for a permanent filling and crown, but I won't be going back to her. read more

I went to Dr. Cioroiu last week for a cleaning and she was very nice and gentle on my mouth. I would definitely make her my primary dentist.

i find that dr. cioroiu is a very good doctor, sensitive to here patients needs. i would highly recommend here
