Romford

I once wrote to Vue Management to complain about Vue in Romford. The seats were soaked in God-knows…read morewhat, the screens were covered in mess, there was popcorn everywhere, the projector was projecting wrong, there were balloons randomly in the theatre blocking the top corner of the screen. Their response was at least honest; "Unfortunately, due to the clientele in Romford it is difficult for us to maintain a consistently high quality" - and I believe them. The Vue in Romford is decent as Multiplexes go; but the problem comes when you find lots of kids who'd rather text each other across the room and make random turrets type noises than watch a movie. We used to avoid this by going to screenings at 11pm. But we found that although the kids were gone, their mess wasn't. I complained a much of times and to be fair to them, I got a few free tickets-- but it got to the point where I'd rather pay to go somewhere else and not have to sit on someones unwanted popcorn. Cinematically; the films are presented well; good sound and good size screens; but often you'll find coke splashed on screens or my biggest problem; holes in the screen (meaning shiny bright sparkling areas). A cinema that tries to be good but doesn't quite pull it off. Go elsewhere.

This Vue cinema is great, you can either buy your tickets downstairs from a dedicated ticket desk,…read moreor go up some escalators and buy your tickets with your popcorn, or you also have the choice of buying them online and collecting them from a ticket machine. In the main lobby, you have a Ben & Jerry's stand from where you can get some yummy ice cream, next to the stand they have a selection of pick and mix. The lobby looks nice, but is always pretty busy during the evenings so I suggest getting there early. As Paul mentioned there is a lack of food, but to be honest there aren't many cinemas that do a huge range. As this is near a shopping complex there are a few places you can go to eat. I am a huge popcorn fan, and Vue does do tasty popcorn. The screens are good and the seats are comfortable, this Vue is great to watch any film =)

Update: 6/10/23 Vue advised they were logging a complaint due to the incident & would be in contact with us which they did follow through via email confirming they'd be back in touch again once they'd looked into the matter but sadly we've not heard back!... 6/10/23 Last night on the 5th at 20:10 I had gone out to watch the new saw film in the Thurrock lakeside bye branch. I have never been so disgusted and humiliated in my life. The seat I had been allocated was not checked and the person in the prior film had urinated on it. I had been sitting there and only noticed till I got up for the first time at the end of the film that my clothing was damp. I have got the managers name (leon Francis) who was on duty last night. He said he could not do much or help assist in the situation that occurred at your venue. Which has resulted in me having to drive home in the same cloths. Which also means been in my car so now I will have to pay for the car to be valeted and also all my cloths taken to a cleaners. I am livid at this situation and disgusted at how poor this has been managed the fact I've had to walk around and drive home with someone else's urine on my cloths. I was eating in the seat touching it. This is incredibly unhygienic and am furious with the branch as nothing was helped to deal with the situation. I am appalled at the service and also the lack of checking of the seats. Something needs to be done! Vue customer services have been emailed full details of the incident

And the 3d movies here are great, I watched Star Wars and the seats were amazing and it was a wonderful experience. There are booking screens on the side so you don't have to queue up for the tills and the pic and mix sweets have a great selection which every so often I'd just go to the cinema for the sweets.

Most of the reviews for odeon cinema in Surrey quays are out of date, sorry guys but they are…read more A few years from now so will mine, but while I am writing let me update you. The layout is very much the same but the facilities have benefitted from a much needed upgrade like the toilets have been done up, almost all the screens now have premiere seats located at the back. The establishment has decided to get rid of the waffles and replace it with milkshake a instead. Also, they have an array of chocolate bars to add to the shake mixs such as, toffee crisp, malteasers, rollo etc. This is a great addition, especially when you are considering the nice cold drinks to go with the summer films. Additionally, look at your full price receipt brought at the box office as they have been giving out 2 4 1tickets as a nice bonus!

Obviously it works really well for me because I just roll out of my apartment into a theater seat. I can imagine it would work rather well for people living around Canada Water/Rotherhithe because the SQLP complex is rather well served by buses and is a quick walk from Surrey Quays and Canada Water stations. Negative points because of the recent rise in tickets. I remember paying below £7 for several shows once upon a time. That seems like a distant memory now - or perhaps I'm just missing something. Also, for no fault of theirs they have to be penalized because of the lack of pre- and post- movie things to do.

Now I would highly recommend this cinema if you want an intimate and very comfortable cinema…read moreexperience without the annoying people talking all the way through and even better... A very representable price tag. I think we even attended on a crazy Monday and got half price tickets. They have a bar in the waiting area where you can buy drinks of all sorts and sweets or ice cream (no popcorn if I remember rightly) which is prob a good and less busy place to pop in for a cuppa anytime anyway. The cinema itself usually has most higher rated films showing on release and extremely generous seating throughout. Screen are on the smaller side but overall that doesn't detract from the experience unless you want an IMAX experience or something totally in your face. Barbican is definitely worth a trip for those wanting to avoid mainstream cinemas. Xyz

Oddly, when we bought our tickets, he showed us a tattered seating chart and asked us which seats we'd like, but had to look up our request in the computer to see if they're already taken, which led to the following conversation: "how about those?" "sorry I'm afraid those are taken. "how about those?" "sorry I'm afraid..." etc. The one twist was the classy food - scones, quiche, and an extensive wine list - which we weren't expecting. While I'm a fan beer / wine in movies, we actually just wanted some popcorn and sweets...

You can watch a film without a child kicking the back of your chair or throwing popcorn about the place and you can get drinks and bar snacks served right to your seat. Brilliant! A great place to come with a date as the double-seats mean you can snuggle up to that special someone. Next time I want the even more luxurious seats at the back which looked more comfy than the average ones and I believe may even have had foot rests. A full bar and decent selection of sweet and savoury snacks. I love a glass of wine with my film so this place gets a huge thumbs up from me on that alone. It is expensive, but no more expensive than seeing a film at a cinema in Leicester Square and billion times better! They need more of these cinemas over London!

Cheap - it ain't £12-14 (dependant on reclining or not) and let's be frank, a bowl of chilli stuffed olives and rosemary mixed nuts or one sweet craving of white chocolate covered bananas with cocktails can set you back enough to skip dinner entirely, but I have seen some thoroughly exhausting movies here ( Brad Bitt becomes infant - cough cough), and leather reclining seats with mojitos made that experience something almost enjoyable. If I had one critique, it would be fairly obvious one as a former resident - more selection/invention/events please. Any possibility of an 'event' generally requires Baker or Hampstead here - but for an experience beyond movie watching that feels akin to first class lounging try it.
