This theatre is in dire need of some renovations as I don't think anything has been done since it's opening (perhaps for the exception of it's specialty theatres). Several seats were broken or no longer contained any foam padding resulting in a very uncomfortable experience when watching a two hour movie (theatre 8). The washrooms are also showing extreme wear and tear and are not kept very clean. The movie we saw was fantastic, but the overall experience was rather disappointing considering the cost. Cineplex should put more dollars into maintaining their infrastructure for the comfort of their guests. read more

This is NOT my first choice in theatre, but sometimes I don't want to travel all the way to Windermere. It's kind of hard to voice complaints about movie theatres because they don't really have any incentive to change their service or anything, even after negative reviews. I just wanted to leave a quick review in the hopes that SOMEONE would see it. The women's bathrooms in this theatre are absolutely disgusting! There have been numerous times that I've come in here and just been appalled. More than once I've seen feces and urine on the toilet seats, dirty tampons, garbage everywhere etc. It's an absolute disgusting mess. On one particularly disgusting sighting I went and informed one of the staff members there that the bathroom needed to be cleaned and they just looked at me dumbfounded. Are you kidding me? These bathrooms are so unsanitary. It's not really fair for customers who have sat through a movie and need to use the bathroom, to go in and not be able to. On Monday night I literally ran out of the theatre and forced myself to hold it until I was home. So hopefully someone from the staff sees this and just makes even a simple effort to keep that area clean! read more

I haven't had a problem at all with any Cineplex theatres in Edmonton. I either go to SEC, or WEM for movies. Although the prices for snacks is outrageous, the seats are comfortable, the screenings and movies are great, and the staff is friendly. read more

This location is always insanely busy. My advice: pre buy your tickets online and arrive early to get your favorite movie snacks! With that being said, I had pre-purchased 5 tickets for Saturdays showing of "London has Fallen". For some reason the Cineplex app had glitched out and given me tickets for Friday's showing (and to answer your question, I did triple check the date before purchasing the tickets). No worries though, the manager at the Box Office was more than understanding and gave us "complimentary" tickets to the correct show. Lines are long and always busy, but great customer service! Always give plenty of time before the show and you'll have an enjoyable experience. read more

PROS: -Cinemas are HUUUUUUUGE!!! it's rather unfortunate that the IMAX isn't located here but that said, the AVX and digital rooms are truly a wonder. And the D Box seats in cinema 9 are super cool. Finally came here to see "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as my sister thought it would be 'nostalgic' for us to see it together, although why was a mystery as neither of us would be considered Star Wars fans and she was 1yrs old when the first "Star Wars" came out, but... I should preface this with the fact that the last movie I saw in a theater was around the time of "Signs" by M. Night Somebody. Since then I've been on the DVD bandwagon :) We went on a Friday in the early afternoon so the crowds were pretty decent and not too many youngsters. Given that the last movie I saw in a theater cost around $7.00, the $13.50 ticket price seemed to me to be pretty reasonable accounting for the 15+ year spread. The ticket dispensers worked flawlessly, but my sister had issues trying to follow the on-screen eye-level instructions when combined with the waist level interac keypad. FUNNY!!! I swear there was no alcohol involved but in retrospect, it could be more integrated visually. I mean, an ATM doesn't make you look at the screen and then somewhere completely out of your field of view for the keypad/card slot... but I digress... We had no parking issues so that was nice. The lobby was clean, and no sticky floors so yet another plus. Good selection of movies, but we knew what we were going to see. The staff were helpful, smiling and great to see so, again, great marks. Although we didn't use them, a welcome change from my days of movie going is the food selection from the ubiquitous pop/popcorn/candy to burgers, fro-yo, and pizza. Where this and every other theater review gets derailed is the cost of the previously mentioned snacks. We got a combo#2 (2 pop/2 popcorn/bag of candy) for about $26. I understand this is where they make the money, and I'm not suggesting it be lower. But heaven forbid if you actually wanted some of those higher end food options given what they charge for the cheap stuff. Where will we be in 2030 when I see my next movie? All in all, a 4-star experience, but they lost a star (at least) from me for the vile, horrible, gross "butter" topping. The salt level was nice though. As for the movie - I liked it less than I thought I would, and my sister liked it more than she thought she would. We both thought it was too long. And thank god Han Solo is dead. What can be said about a behemoth of a theatre chain like Cineplex? If you are looking to catch all the latest blockbusters, Cineplex is a great bet. It's Chapters to an independent book shop. It's Payless to Gravity Pope. The suburban, commercialized version of a cinema experience. It's generally clean, staff are young but mostly friendly, and of course, concessions are pricey. Recently, some showings make pre-selection of seats possible. What a fantastic idea! I am always relieved when I can pre-purchase my ticket and choose seats from the comfort of Earls across the street. There's time for one more round before heading to the theatre - hooray! If you enjoy historical charm, cheap snacks and a selection of obscure films, this isn't the place, and you may want to look closer to Whyte Ave. However, if you are itching to check out the latest and greatest from Hollywood, Cineplex will do nicely. read more

This has stopped being my regular theater since I moved to the North side but I still pop in when meeting up with a few of my north side leery friends and this place has stayed consistently average throughout all my years of going. The line ups on weekends are atrocious and if there is an anticipated film opening it can get as ridiculous as the line up going right out the door. This is usually right around the time one or more of the automated ticket machines decides it no longer wants to work and from what I have seen the staff and managers have no idea how to fix them. Not only does this become an exercise in patience but in winter this also becomes a test to see how well you are acclimatized to Alberta weather. These guys have their west ed location beat though when it comes to bathrooms. Whether im there for a matinee or evening show I always find the toilets and sinks clean as well as all the toilet paper well stocked. I am not as big a fan of their concession as the ones at WEM they have more lines here but I enjoy the nachos and more often then not end up with stale tortilla chips from South Common. It serves it's purpose for the South Side and is easier to get to then the V.I.P cinema in Windermere for transit users like myself but unless I have to go here I prefer to give my business to WEM or Empire downtown. read more

I live close to this movie theater and I always come here to watch a movie. There plenty of parking around here. Sometimes you might have to walk a little because it does get busy during peak hours. The ticket line ups are fast and they usually solve any customer concerns right away. It's a BIG theater with lots of comfortable seats to choose from. The staff are plentiful and friendly. They always ask if we have a SCENE card which is nice, because I do have a SCENE card. You get 100 points for a movie and up to 3 movies you can get points for per day. 1000 points gets you one free movie. If you purchase food at the concession, you will get 10% off. I love frozen yogurt so I always buy a large fro-yo here and sometimes a Starbucks coffee too. They have other food item here too and they are always adding new items to the menu to keep it interesting. I feel really excited when I watch a new movie. It's like a treat for me every time. Some time it's in 3-D and other times it D-Box seats! Tuesdays is always the best, because it's cheap movie day. If you come on the weekends, make sure you plan at least an hour ahead or purchase your tickets online. This is definitely a convenient location for most people on the Southside. As far as theatres go, there is nothing that put this one above the rest. It's just basic, good enough. One small complaint though. I was there on a Sunday evening, seeing the last show. The video stopped but the sound kept playing. I went into the lobby to tell someone and there was no one around. I waited for at least 5 minutes, even yelled "Hello". No security, no staff anywhere to be found. Finally at the other end of the theatre I saw an employee come out of a theatre and I hollered at her. She said she was doing theatre checks, and I definitely let them know how unprofessional, and not safe, it was for them to not have a single person in the lobby. Oddly enough, when the movie was out, there was a security guard in the lobby. Shame on Cineplex for leaving the safety of their staff and customers vulnerable like that. I Used to love going to the movies but now since being in Landmark, sorry. I kinda am a Landmark snob. However, I do have to say that I do like this location. Friendly staff, fast and efficient. Went to see Blockers on last minute date night option and worked out for us. Theater was busy but we got good seats- we got there a pre-ads. However, went to outtakes as I had no dinner and they were out of every thing except chicken strips- go figure.....the place looked closed and the staff looked a bit bored. Unfortunate as it wasn't even 8 pm. Got the movie for free so cant complain too much :). People still need to be mindful of movie etiquette and that's why I like Landmark, you get a lazy boy and so much space between people that you don't notice or its easier to ignore people who are still on their phone, talking in the movie or chewing their food loudly.... Overall its one of the cleanest movie theaters here and restrooms are large and clean. There are a bunch of theater options: regular screens, DBOX screen, UltraAVX Screens, Party rooms and Xscape Centre. You can stand in line for tix, or use the kiosk. Its on the Southside and surrounded by other stores and restaurants, so you can either shop, eat or go to the Rec room before /after your movie. Parking is abundant! read more

I agree with the previous reviewer. This is perhaps the busiest theatre in Edmonton. The reason why I keep coming back though, and the best feature of this movie theater, were because of the reclining chairs. It really makes a different in your movie watching experience. Friday is a really popular night, and I found that most of the popular movies were sold out, so we were forced to see another movie. Even though they had a long line up with 2 'S's looping around inside to outside past the front doors, the line up moved fast. The wait was not very long (about 20 minutes) considering the number of people inline, and they had 6 staff members at the ticket office. They would also keep everyone up to date on the availability of the popular or almost sold-out movies through frequent announcements. The parking lot at this South Edmonton location is is huge, yet it was really hard to find parking. They were giving out tickets for people who were triple parking though, which made sure there were more parking spots for people. If you can get past the busy line-ups, this is one of the most comfortable cinemas in the city and can be well worth the wait. read more

Came here Sunday night with the BF to see a movie (obviously) and we were running a bit late. I went up to the concession with money in hand and my scene card and plopped them both down on the counter. The young lady at the till asked if I would like a combo, I asked if they had one with just nachos and not the hot dog. She said "I don't know"... Ugh... Really? I said "fine, I will have nachos, a large soda, a bag of m&m's and a small pop corn". She replied with a "do you want nachos from there" while pointing to the "OUTTAKES" outlet... I asked her what the difference was, she replied with a "I dunno, they have like guacamole and stuff"... Are we for serious?? I told her never mind I just want the orange goo cheese. Fast forward a few minutes... Opened my gooey cheese container that no longer comes from a pump machine and now comes in a small container resembling a yogurt container and dipped my cold nachos... The cheese was cold... Not luke warm but just out of the refrigerator cold... Since my movie was about to start I had to sprint down to the concession and ask for more... It was a sad day in nacho land! Do our younger generation need a lesson in customer service? The barely lifting their heads and "I don't knows" are blowing my mind... I don't like this theatre either! You can't lift up the arm rest to snuggle with your date and the seats are not very comfortable. Time for a facelift! read more

I am incredibly unimpressed with the customer service at this theatre. My husband is diabetic and he ordered a Coke Zero at a matinee yesterday. After getting the drink he again confirmed that it was a Coke Zero. We got home after movie and he collapsed in the kitchen because his blood sugar was so high. We have attempted to contact Cineplex by phone and e-mail to discuss this issue and they haven't responded at all. Good to know that not only do they not care about customer service but they don't care about their customers at all! read more

Cut to the chase: it's a multiscreen megaplex with stadium seating, we've all been in one. No surprises. It is busy and crowded, so the seats are showing some wear and tear and getting a little lumpy but they're not uncomfortable. I do use my phone to light my seat before sitting on it though. Some interesting smells are developing especially in theatres showing kids movies. My two complaints are (1) concession service is as if they're trying to develop the perfect case study in inefficiency and customer indifference, and (2) there are not near enough self service kiosks for a theatre this busy. This is definitely one of the best movie theaters in Edmonton. I am completely in love with their new UltraAVX theater. This theater allows you to pre buy and pre select your seats for an extra fee. The extra fee is completely worth it because it means no more waiting in lines to see blockbuster movies. This is the only way I will see movies on their opening weekend now. read more

Huge ass theatre, gets really busy on weekends of course. Prime quiet viewing times are late shows or early shows on sat/sun. Everything here is pretty darn standard for a cineplex theatre. Although the arcade section is currently under Reno they are serving some Starbucks options at the coffee bar, and if you're snacky there are plenty of fast food choices to fill that greasy spot. This cinema is in need of an upgrade in a lot of the theaters. Pros are that this is usually on of the first ones to get upgraded in the region, but then it stagnates for a long while after. But the team there is decent, we've never had a problem with the location and it's easy to get in and out of. It would be awesome to have a VIP section here, but that might be asking a little much. But at least it has two AVX cinemas, which allows you to book seats in advance (WELL WORTH IT!). As with any cinema, they overcharge for all snack and beverage options within the location, and soon they will be jacking up the number of Scene points needed to see free movies (that's not just this location, but chain wide). read more

Pure viewing comfort, I may have to amend my thoughts of my local theaters. The star killer, however, is more of a question. This is the go-to theatre in my group of friends. The location is super convenient, just fifteen or twenty minutes from most southside neighbourhoods. The screens are also huge and clear, and the theatres are really large. That being said, it's also insanely busy on the weekends, and the seats leave me feeling a little grimy. We love going out for a good movie. It's so expensive these days so we really pick and choose which movies we see. The south edmonton common location is normally our location of choice. Overall, I've never had a bad experience here. The staff have always been friendly and kind. My only complaint is the price of the food. I have been going to this theater for years. In the beginning it was awesome! True pride of ownership. Now its pretty terrible (and at the prices we pay it should be WAY better) Some days its floors are the filthiest I have ever seen especially from popcorn all over. The washrooms are also filthy at times. There is one guy who often works at the hotdog + pizza station who is BEYOND miserable and rude I literally cringe if i have to deal with him! I would fire his ass so fast his head would spin. They often do not have salt out which bugs me (in the olden days it was always around). I HATE HATE HATE that they switched pizza suppliers! The current pizza 73 I think it is i find beyond disgusting. And its annoying that the cheap movie theater which was down the street at 34th & 99 Ave was closed for really no reason except to limit competition for south common. That was a drag. The one nice thing (so far, i am sure it will change) is i have only been annoyed once or twice from cell phone lights etc. I wish we had a theater like one in Texas that prohibits ALL use of cell phones including texting in the theaters (if you are old enuff, you found your seat BEFORE there were cell phones, i am pretty sure you are capable to do that again). read more

A least once a week I find myself at a Cineplex odeon. Currently waiting on a movie premier. As far as theatres go this one tends to be more organized and knows what to do when I walk in and ask where to go. Not loving the ones when we have to bag and tag our phones.
