Dim sum here is pretty solid. Most of their dim sum dishes are under $10 and dim sum is 20% off if you dine in. In the past I found some of the servers to be rude, but this time service was quick and friendly. I came with a group of 8 and we ordered a variety of dishes. All of the dim sum was decent sized and delicious.

My very good friend from East Vancouver (anybody from EastVan reading this? Put your hands up in the air & wave'em from side to side) knows all the hot spots to chow down at! My duck craving has been huge in 2024! That duck skin is soooooo delicious but yeah, I gotta watch my cholesterol for sure. Cindy's Palace is a really ol skool Chinese restaurant - it's old, it looks it & it feels like it. Parking in this area is tight. I only ever come here for duck cause the price is right & I'm usually on the move & don't have time for Dim Sum. The service level here is average - you might need to hail someone down if you need something. Should you be in this area & in need of good duck, do pop in & try it. Get the two course duck = skin & meat. Put the skin in the wraps, add onions & sauce - then eat. Be prepared to oohh & ahhhh after every bite! 享受 (hoeng2 sau6)

Wishing everyone ABUNDANCE and PROSPERITY in all aspects of life: health, wealth and friendship I am thankful to have Chinese New Year dinner with my family at Cindy's Palace. We ordered a set menu which included 11 dishes for a table of 9 adults (5 hungry men) and 2 kids. We started off with an appetizer platter which I enjoyed. Then the mains included 2 lobsters and a fish which were prepared perfectly but the chicken was a bit bland and dry. The meal ended off with a delicious not overly sweet baked tapioca pudding and red bean soup. We pre-ordered this menu and the food came out quickly once everyone arrived. Service was okay. They could have cleared our plates a little quicker, but they had a full house. There was definitely enough food for everyone. We even had 4 boxes of leftovers to take home.

This spot will hit your dim sum cravings. Food came out fast and prompt, and the food quality was amazing. The price is a bit on the pricier side but the food quality makes it worth it.

The 3 of us came here for dim sum on a weekday. I hadn't been here before and we were impressed with good ol' fashion Cantonese food. Our eyes were bigger than our appetite & we weren't disappointed. All the dim sum dishes were tasty and with decent proportions. Great value too! Here are the ratings based on everyone's experience: (with 5 being the highest) Ambience: 4 (good distance with plastic divider between tables). Place can accommodate a group for special occasions. Food: 5 (offer different sized portions with pictures) Value: 5 (20% off lunch from M to F except public holidays from 9 am to 3 pm. Free delivery for orders over $50) Location: 4 (look for the yellow awning located just off 1st Ave & Nanaimo). Free parking behind the restaurant or on the residential streets. Service: 5 - frequently changed our used plates & friendly staff. Hours: 5 (open 7 days a week from 9 am to 10 pm). We had so many yummy dishes that I forgot to take photos of a couple of dishes. If you're not interested in dim sum, look for their dinner specials. For set prices, you can order peking duck 2 course meal with a choice of 3 or 6 main course dishes. There are over 75 dishes to choose from for vegetarians to carnivores. I will be definitely back to try their set dinner menu.

Excellent! Old school mostly Cantonese food. A huge menu and the portions are unbelievably large. We expected much smaller portions so ordered way too much. Three or four people could easily share each menu item. We ordered the shrimp dumplings, the hot and sour soup, chicken with bean sprouts chow mein and the braised deep fried tofu. Everything was just excellent and the service was great.

We ordered takeout from here during COVID and we were so happy! The food was amazingly hot and fresh, and they packaged everything so well, so that it tasted like you just ordered it and it didn't take a 30 minute drive across town to get to you! We ordered a few of our favourites from other restaurants that are special dishes, but Cindys Palace has them all in one place! We order the mayonnaise pork chop, house fried noodle with seafood and veggies, Honeymoon Fried Rice, and spring rolls. They package the sauces for the fried noodle and rice separate so nothing gets soggy. This is the first time I've seen this and I think it's such a great idea. It takes more containers however. The pork chop dish was so generous and delicious. Lots of yummy sauce and the pieces of pork were balanced with crispy and fatty bits. The noodle dish also came with so much of variety, prawn, mushroom, bok choy and squid. And lastly, the honeymoon fried rice, with half tomato sauce and chicken and half cream sauce with shrimp and peas hit the spot! It's such a different combo, but if you want something new to try, I highly recommend this dish. We will definitely order from here again!

Not sure if I was hungry or the chef is different from the dim sum chef. Well dim sum has always been ok here. But I was surprised dinner here was pretty good. My mom ordered the fried shrimp with pineapple and mayo. Wow the shrimp were very good decent size. Pineapples were from a can but I am a big fan of pineapples and there were lots. Also they were very generous with the mayo. Well anything with mayo is yummy technically. Also the shrimps were very well battered and fried perfectly. We also we got the Peking duck 2 courses. The wraps were shockingly small. Well there were 16 tiny wraps (we didn't count but that's what was advertised). We dined here on a weekday and the two courses were discounted for $39.80. Well, I think that is pretty cheap. So the duck skin was nice and crispy. Even though the wraps were tiny and different from other restaurants but they were really yummy. Service was really good here. The server came around frequently. Definitely dinner beats dim sum here. Prices were reasonable. My parents dine here quite often and so they got a 10% discount VIP customer card off their meal. Not sure how they got it but all I know is that my parents come here often (even though they don't live in the hood).

Went with two friends who have been a multiple of times, including for family memorials. So they love this place! Definitely lived up to the hype! I have missed good dimsum since moving from Toronto so Cindy's was a real find. We order way too much and 2.5 hours later we were sitting at our table unable to move. Har gow among the best I ever had and everything was fresh and delish. We could see the kitchen from where we were and everyone was hustling and there was a constant lineup. I didn't take enough food photos but I will share what I have. Spoke to Cindy on the way out and she was really sweet!! I will be back!!

With about 9-10 people per table, we were treated to what felt like at least ten courses. There wasn't much time for photos, as conversation and catching up naturally took precedence. The standouts were the seafood fried rice and the green onion lobster and crab stir-fry -- rich, comforting, and generously flavoured, the kind of dishes that quietly anchor a long meal. It was a busy holiday weekend, and the restaurant was packed. Our original 7:00 p.m. reservation was delayed until 8:00 p.m., leaving many of us waiting outside in the cold. Once seated, the pacing felt off, with dishes arriving out of sequence, which gave the meal an oddly disjointed rhythm. A small apology or update from the staff would have been welcome, but none came. Overall, the food was very tasty, and I would consider returning -- particularly to explore more of their seafood offerings.

So mum wanted to show her appreciation for being her chauffeur taking her around to the doctors…read more She took me out for dimsum and with it being in Richmond there is a plethora of choices. She wanted to go to Kirin. Plenty of parking in the mall. Hostess greeted and seated us promptly. Restaurant was busy but not crazy. This was at 10am on a Thursday. Waiters were attentive. Usual table service was in place. Took our order and food came out at acceptable pace. When we were done, they politely boxed up the leftovers and we paid our bill. So service was on point. The food we ordered came out hot. The staples that I order to test was hargow, suimai and pai gwut(spareribs). All 3 dishes in general were good.....the hargow could have used an extra minute or 2 in the steamer. The suimai was very good. I tasted every ingredient in this dish. Usually it is just a complete mix and you can't discern the different flavors. They tried something different with the cheongfun by adding pieces of Chinese donut to the roll. I personally think it didn't add much to the dish, taste or texture wise. I did like the pea shoots with shrimp. I think it is a good combo. All in all a good dimsum. I also noticed they did not charge us a tea service. The cost of the food is comparable with other restaurants at this level. Yes come on a date or impress business clients/boss or family celebrations.

I have many Chinese friends in Vancouver, and my last visit to Kirin Richmond was in July 2024…read more This time, it was my birthday, and my friends insisted on treating me to Kirin Richmond once again. On a typical Sunday evening, the restaurant is usually fully occupied, but my friend had thoughtfully made a reservation a week in advance, so our table for five was ready upon arrival. As always, the restaurant was clean and well maintained, with good airflow thanks to the wide-open front entrance facing the parkade. The front desk receptionist greeted us cordially, and we were escorted to a cozy table in a comfortable location -- not too close to the washrooms, which I appreciated. Our meal began with the Kirin Special Assorted Cold Appetizer, followed by Crab Meat, Dried Scallops, and Fish Maw Soup. The soup arrived piping hot and was delicious, with a generous portion that could easily have served eight people. We also enjoyed Pea Tips Braised with Bean Curd and Assorted Mushrooms in Consommé, Marinated Free-Range Crispy Skin Chicken, Fillet of Cod Sautéed with Seasonal Vegetables, and Live Crab in Consommé with Ginger and Green Onion, served with E-fu Noodles. Overall, the quality and taste of every entrée were excellent. Service was top-notch -- tea and hot water were refilled constantly, bones and used plates were replaced promptly, and the servers were friendly and engaging throughout the evening. My friend and his family have apparently been regulars at this location for over two decades, which likely contributed to the exceptional attentiveness we received. However, one aspect of the experience genuinely disturbed me. All servers, including the captains, continued to wear masks at all times. While this practice was understandable two years ago, now -- five years after the onset of the pandemic, with COVID-19 managed similarly to other seasonal respiratory illnesses -- the continued universal masking in a fine-dining environment feels unnecessary and detracts from the overall guest experience. Fine dining, in my view as an avid foodie, is built on human connection, hospitality, and personal interaction. Masks create a more impersonal, almost clinical atmosphere. In a well-ventilated space like this, the environmental risk does not seem to justify the visual and social trade-off. Rather than providing reassurance, the persistent masking may unintentionally signal that the environment is unsafe or that management is out of step with current provincial health guidelines, where masking is now a personal choice rather than a mandate. Final verdict: Food & Service: 5/5 Ambience: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 -- as the current aesthetic feels more like a relic of 2020 than a leader in 2026 hospitality.

New Town Bakery is one of those Chinatown staples that feels like a rite of passage in Vancouver…read more We headed there for breakfast, excited for pastries and a classic bakery experience, and decided to dine in. Once we sat down and were handed the full menu, though, I had a brief moment of panic. The menu is huuuge and varied, plus none of the items I had mentally planned on ordering were on there. We pivoted and ordered pork siu mai, congee, look fun noodles, and a few steamed buns (they're especially known for those). The congee, noodles, and siu mai were all fine--very standard, not particularly memorable. In fairness, they weren't what I came for in the first place, so that probably shaped my expectations. The real standouts were the pork asado siopao and the chicken deluxe (bola bola). Both have Filipino roots, and the siopao especially brought a comforting sense of familiarity--soft, fluffy, and filled with that sweet-savory pork that felt like home. Those alone made the visit worthwhile. They actually have quite a few other Filipino influenced items like hopia and puto which was surprising. Ironically, it was only after we left that I noticed the sign on the window highlighting their most popular items--exactly what first-timers should probably stick to. I had ordered a few pastries to go with the intention of trying them later... and then completely forgot about them, which I'm still a little sad about. Overall, it was a good visit with a clear lesson learned: go in with a game plan and order the hits. It's a beloved Vancouver institution for a reason, and I'd definitely recommend stopping by--just know it's cash only and do a little pre-order research so you can make the most of it. I'd give it more like a 3.5 vs a 4 star, but I'm already planning a redo focused purely on the classics.
