Live 9lb king crab was brought to our table before they cooked it
Alex M.

We were lucky enough to have dinner here on a weeknight with a local who lives nearby. He ordered all the right dishes for us to share and each one was incredible. This was the best Chinese meal I have ever had. Several courses, from king crab prepared two ways, Kai lan broccoli with beef, fried oysters, duck wraps two ways, and dessert. Our friend is a chef and he commented how the smokiness of the diced duck filling for the lettuce wrap was perfection without being oily... it takes a skilled chef. The staff paced the courses well, as we didn't feel rushed or left waiting for the next dish. The ambiance is not impressive at all, and it could be cleaned up. Helps to have a Chinese speaker in the group.

Pig feet in ginger sauce and hard boiled egg.

An old Vancouver friend took us there. An authentic Hong Kong type restaurant. Not a place to impress your big clients or on a First Date to impress. Food is quite good, though, but not cheap. Egg tart not so good, not recommended. Shrimp dumplings are huge. Biggest I have seen. Halibut tasted good. No fishy smell and pan-fried crispy. I like it. The Pork Feet with ginger and hard boiled eggs was delicious, according to my wife. Overall, the food is 4/5. Cleanliness 3/5. Value 3/5.

5 stars for dinner, 4 stars for dimsum Somehow I found myself eating here 3x in one weekend, twice for dimsum and once for dinner. I typically don't like to repeat restaurants back to back, so this was definitely a record for me. It gets decently crowded here during the weekends, so I would recommend calling ahead to make a reservation. There's 2 hour street parking in front as well as a small parking lot in the back, but each time I came, I got lucky with a spot out front. The dimsum menu is two-sided, with one side being your standard dimsum items and the other side more lunch-y items. Both times for dimsum, we primarily ordered from the lunch side. My favorite items were #37 rice noodle roll with fish, #19 octopus with curry sauce, and steamed fish head (I think we may have ordered this off menu). For dinner, we went with the 6 person set menu for $148 and added a dry beef ho fun stir fry. The pan fried cod and the crab with vermicelli were huge hits with the whole table, and the gai lan used in the beef stirfry was super fresh. Surprisingly, the beef ho fun was the winner of the meal, with everyone agreeing there was really good wok hei (i.e. the noodles were cooked with sufficient heat). I'm a bit burnt on this restaurant right now, but I would totally come back especially for dinner in a couple months!

Great for large gatherings.

One of the best dim sum places in vancouver, BC. Family who brought us here know their dim sum and Chinese food. Coming from SFBA we have some of the best dim sum but Vancouver, BC gives USA the run for our money. This place is uniquely authentic. Same usual list of dim sum fare but some interesting and very unique as well. Feels like a hole in the wall but has a big dining area. Clean as far a Chinese restaurant goes and doesn't smell like raid in the bathroom. Special fried vermicelli encased in a Crispy rice shell was the unique and yummy dish. Not shown is the minced garlic steamed eggplant that was very tasty and healthy. Have not had anything like it before. Although the rest of the dishes are your usual dim sum regulars, they were especially tasty. Prepared well with quality ingredients.

Another busy Chinese restaurant in lowermainland, large place with function room, busy when I came there was a party on the function room and I gezz its a full house. Non Chinese like me should actually do their research on what item is really the best to order,ai always go for dishes I knew before,or visit the place with a achinese friend who knows and understand. Asusual I ordered house soecial chowmien and shiumai. The shiumai is thesame with other known dimsum place around, this item is always good specially with saoysauce and chilli sauce on the side. My old tome favorite the chowmien,it was good and smells awesome,I always ordered the house special bec most meat is included with selected seafoods and veggies, actually a complete meal. I am ver satisfied with my food ,although service isnt that excellent but still I had fun and enjoyed my lunch. Big place with few parking spots shared with ither businesses in the area.noise level is above average, well as I always mentioned in my reviews our Chinese folls talks a little louder and it seems like they are always fighting: This place is excellent for Large group and family events(set menus are available with lots of options) Washroom needs a makeover it was clean but not very clean. FYI if you are not into drinking tea always check your BILL the tea they put on your table is not free.. Enjoy everyone Happy YELPING to all...

All time favourite Dimsum spot! Love how they have an online menu and if you pick up, you get 10% off your order! It's a super busy restaurant with a small dining area so I do recommend doing take out instead. Great portions and reasonably priced!

YUM CHAAAAAA LAAAAA Come Along Chinese Restaurant // Kingsway, BC Food: 5/10 Vibe: 10/10 To be honest the food wasn't the best, they are pretty tasteless. The vibe around the restaurant reminds me of Hong Kong traditional dim sum place. Made me miss my family a little bit more after going to the restaurant Edit: this place is really popular among locals!! The food I ordered were: Prawn dumplings, Shiu Mai, Chinese sausage bun, chicken bun with ginger, steamed beef balls, been tendon and tumip, octopus with curry sauce, stirred fried radish cake, creamy custard buns, pepper corn and pork stomach hot pot.

Our bill.

Come Along was our venue for dim sum recently. Though familiar with the restaurant and its location, we had never dined there previously. We arrived shortly before it opened its door at 9 am, and were able to park directly in front of the restaurant's entrance. We were greeted cordially, and service to our table was friendly and as attentive as wished. We liked the ambiance of the place, and though quite large (at least for us), really did not 'feel' that way, as tables are arranged quite close together. What we (as a threesome) ordered, and shared: 'the house' tea -- steamed prawn dumplings -- steamed peanut meat mixed vegetable dumplings -- steamed mini sticky rice wraps -- steamed beef balls -- steamed chicken feet w/black bean sauce -- deep fried tofu with shrimp -- deep fried meat dumplings -- special steamed beef flour rolls. Except for the tofu dish, and beef flour rolls, we ordered dishes that we were well-familiar with, and had ordered frequently from dim sum offerings at other restaurants. My considerations of the preparations, on a dish-by-dish basis: Note: all dishes were served from kitchen to table 'too cool' for my liking. - 'Good to Ok' -- chicken feet (meat tender, sauce flavourful, and tasty - small portion size) -- deep fried tofu (tofu creamy, coating not overcooked, sauce and total dish flavourful, and tasty - decent portion size) -- beef flour rolls (thin and 'silky' rice flour wraps, tender beef - decent portion size) -- rice wraps (rice fine, minimal other ingredients, rather bland in flavour and taste - decent portion size). - 'Poor' -- meatballs (terrible preparation, 'dense', 'rubbery', highly-overcooked, poor flavour and taste - decent portion size) -- meat/peanut/veggie dumplings (thick and tough rice wrap, minimal filling lacked distinctive flavour and taste - decent portion size) -- prawn dumplings (ok rice wraps, ingredients just very tightly-packed balls of small shrimp, overcooked, tough, and tasteless - decent portion size) -- meat dumplings (coverings ok, ingredients minimal, overcooked, and lacking in distinctive flavour and taste - decent portion size) -- tea (having to pay for it, imo, seemed a touch unreasonable, considering the kind of prices being charged for all the food dishes). Overall dining experience -- liked the place, and the service provided, but had difficulty truly-enjoying the preparations of several of the dim sum dishes ordered.

Minced pork with green beans

My hubby's friend gathering every 2 months, they picked Come Along this time. I usually have no expectation of any Chinese restaurant in East side. Coz I do believe what you pay is what you get. Well... we did get a big dish and greasy food. The service was unexpected good and the dishes were ok (not too MSG, just super oily). Minced pork with green beans - crispy green beans and tasted a bit spicy. Honey short ribs - deep fried short ribs with thick honey sauce covered. Bean curd with Enokidake - nice vegetarian dish. Deep fried ling cod - Super greasy and overcooked. Spicy prawns in Singapore sauce - Sweet and spicy flavour but the prawns had frozen taste.

Every time I say this restaurant's name -Come Along Seafood Restaurant, I can't help but to say it in a Chinese accent so it can rhyme. A little cheesy, but mostly I like how it sounds. My family and I came here for dinner and for the most part, everyone was content. There were certain items that were too salty while others were under seasoned, but it wasn't a huge problem. Food was still tasty. As expected, the service was average at best except from the manager. He was a chatty fellow.

* Old and new - poorly combined * I love dim sum. I think back to the "good old days" when dim sum meant waiting with anticipation for the cart ladies to push the latest offerings past you and display their hidden treasures. The only problem with the cart system was that frequently items would be either over-steamed, already getting cold, or just have been held too long. So the newer check box system which seems to be almost everywhere nowadays generally provides fresher product that is at the right temperature and done to the right level. It does sacrifice the nostalgic joy of seeing what each cart would reveal. I'm normally ok with giving up on the nostalgia to get a better meal. But at this spot I gave up on the nostalgia but still got items that suffered from the old symptoms of a cart having been pushed around too long - they took the worst of each system and combined it with slightly sloppy presentation - all in all not a good combination! Details of the meal: - Shrimp and scallop dumplings. The seafood was very fresh. But unfortunately this had been extremely over-steamed so that the scallops were rubbery. It was a shame, as it could have been wonderful. The presentation was kind of sloppy on this one too, with the small fish eggs running down and falling off the top of the scallops. Disappointing overall. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/H1yjEU0KWm3sfuhxB9omOQ?select=pbpBgdK31kWpplF3Nvtr9g - Shrimp and scallop rice roll. Once again the seafood was fresh. But this one also had been over-steamed to the point that the roll was falling apart and couldn't be lifted out of the awkwardly stacked presentation. Trying to lift any piece of it lifted the whole clump of three rolls as they had melded together. Once separating them you just had mush. Sad. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/H1yjEU0KWm3sfuhxB9omOQ?select=vjlvQFt6ta5Oa7ncmUrajg - Hargow. These were the best dish of the meal. There was a generous amount of very fresh shrimp in a nice delicate wrapper. They were steamed to the proper level (thank you!) and overall were very pleasant. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/H1yjEU0KWm3sfuhxB9omOQ?select=jdNDqeDIwi2i2nhH18uSkA - Sticky fried rice with Chinese sausage. There was no wok hei, and instead the dish was just oily and slightly mushy. Not a skillful job unfortunately. The sliced egg garnish was a nice touch. But the lack of wok hei and the oiliness just didn't add up to a good dish. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/H1yjEU0KWm3sfuhxB9omOQ?select=xvFWfFkTaXrQo-5MZSuIuA - Stir-fried green beans with pork. This was the worst dish by far. The beans were overcooked, overly salty, and there was no hint of wok hei. This is normally one of my favourite dishes, when made correctly. But here was an utter fail. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/H1yjEU0KWm3sfuhxB9omOQ?select=8XHixLU7lSz0yQEOs9Te-w Overall considering the number of better dim sum options available not too far away, this place just doesn't warrant a repeat visit. I won't be going back.

With about 9-10 people per table, we were treated to what felt like at least ten courses. There wasn't much time for photos, as conversation and catching up naturally took precedence. The standouts were the seafood fried rice and the green onion lobster and crab stir-fry -- rich, comforting, and generously flavoured, the kind of dishes that quietly anchor a long meal. It was a busy holiday weekend, and the restaurant was packed. Our original 7:00 p.m. reservation was delayed until 8:00 p.m., leaving many of us waiting outside in the cold. Once seated, the pacing felt off, with dishes arriving out of sequence, which gave the meal an oddly disjointed rhythm. A small apology or update from the staff would have been welcome, but none came. Overall, the food was very tasty, and I would consider returning -- particularly to explore more of their seafood offerings.

So mum wanted to show her appreciation for being her chauffeur taking her around to the doctors…read more She took me out for dimsum and with it being in Richmond there is a plethora of choices. She wanted to go to Kirin. Plenty of parking in the mall. Hostess greeted and seated us promptly. Restaurant was busy but not crazy. This was at 10am on a Thursday. Waiters were attentive. Usual table service was in place. Took our order and food came out at acceptable pace. When we were done, they politely boxed up the leftovers and we paid our bill. So service was on point. The food we ordered came out hot. The staples that I order to test was hargow, suimai and pai gwut(spareribs). All 3 dishes in general were good.....the hargow could have used an extra minute or 2 in the steamer. The suimai was very good. I tasted every ingredient in this dish. Usually it is just a complete mix and you can't discern the different flavors. They tried something different with the cheongfun by adding pieces of Chinese donut to the roll. I personally think it didn't add much to the dish, taste or texture wise. I did like the pea shoots with shrimp. I think it is a good combo. All in all a good dimsum. I also noticed they did not charge us a tea service. The cost of the food is comparable with other restaurants at this level. Yes come on a date or impress business clients/boss or family celebrations.

I have many Chinese friends in Vancouver, and my last visit to Kirin Richmond was in July 2024…read more This time, it was my birthday, and my friends insisted on treating me to Kirin Richmond once again. On a typical Sunday evening, the restaurant is usually fully occupied, but my friend had thoughtfully made a reservation a week in advance, so our table for five was ready upon arrival. As always, the restaurant was clean and well maintained, with good airflow thanks to the wide-open front entrance facing the parkade. The front desk receptionist greeted us cordially, and we were escorted to a cozy table in a comfortable location -- not too close to the washrooms, which I appreciated. Our meal began with the Kirin Special Assorted Cold Appetizer, followed by Crab Meat, Dried Scallops, and Fish Maw Soup. The soup arrived piping hot and was delicious, with a generous portion that could easily have served eight people. We also enjoyed Pea Tips Braised with Bean Curd and Assorted Mushrooms in Consommé, Marinated Free-Range Crispy Skin Chicken, Fillet of Cod Sautéed with Seasonal Vegetables, and Live Crab in Consommé with Ginger and Green Onion, served with E-fu Noodles. Overall, the quality and taste of every entrée were excellent. Service was top-notch -- tea and hot water were refilled constantly, bones and used plates were replaced promptly, and the servers were friendly and engaging throughout the evening. My friend and his family have apparently been regulars at this location for over two decades, which likely contributed to the exceptional attentiveness we received. However, one aspect of the experience genuinely disturbed me. All servers, including the captains, continued to wear masks at all times. While this practice was understandable two years ago, now -- five years after the onset of the pandemic, with COVID-19 managed similarly to other seasonal respiratory illnesses -- the continued universal masking in a fine-dining environment feels unnecessary and detracts from the overall guest experience. Fine dining, in my view as an avid foodie, is built on human connection, hospitality, and personal interaction. Masks create a more impersonal, almost clinical atmosphere. In a well-ventilated space like this, the environmental risk does not seem to justify the visual and social trade-off. Rather than providing reassurance, the persistent masking may unintentionally signal that the environment is unsafe or that management is out of step with current provincial health guidelines, where masking is now a personal choice rather than a mandate. Final verdict: Food & Service: 5/5 Ambience: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 -- as the current aesthetic feels more like a relic of 2020 than a leader in 2026 hospitality.

New Town Bakery is one of those Chinatown staples that feels like a rite of passage in Vancouver…read more We headed there for breakfast, excited for pastries and a classic bakery experience, and decided to dine in. Once we sat down and were handed the full menu, though, I had a brief moment of panic. The menu is huuuge and varied, plus none of the items I had mentally planned on ordering were on there. We pivoted and ordered pork siu mai, congee, look fun noodles, and a few steamed buns (they're especially known for those). The congee, noodles, and siu mai were all fine--very standard, not particularly memorable. In fairness, they weren't what I came for in the first place, so that probably shaped my expectations. The real standouts were the pork asado siopao and the chicken deluxe (bola bola). Both have Filipino roots, and the siopao especially brought a comforting sense of familiarity--soft, fluffy, and filled with that sweet-savory pork that felt like home. Those alone made the visit worthwhile. They actually have quite a few other Filipino influenced items like hopia and puto which was surprising. Ironically, it was only after we left that I noticed the sign on the window highlighting their most popular items--exactly what first-timers should probably stick to. I had ordered a few pastries to go with the intention of trying them later... and then completely forgot about them, which I'm still a little sad about. Overall, it was a good visit with a clear lesson learned: go in with a game plan and order the hits. It's a beloved Vancouver institution for a reason, and I'd definitely recommend stopping by--just know it's cash only and do a little pre-order research so you can make the most of it. I'd give it more like a 3.5 vs a 4 star, but I'm already planning a redo focused purely on the classics.
