I have to say that normally I would rate this as a generic Mexican restaurant. But something keeps drawing me back. The chimichanga is pretty much a staple for me now and the margeritas are potent. Ok honestly it has to be the margeritas...these drinks are STRONG. The staff doesn't get stingy on the tequila. It is totally worth buying a pitcher of these to share at the table. I know some people may feel this place is a little divey but honestly I enjoy the service and atmosphere. Three stars is what cielito lindo gets. My husband and I dined here tonight. We had the special fajitas for two. The food was great. Great price, very quick to get our food and good taste. The atmosphere is very cozy. Nicely decorated. Totally comfortable. Our only complaint was the service/servers. Our waiter was very friendly and nice however he only visited our table twice. Once to order and then we waited a while after we finished our food for our check. Most of the time 3-4 of the waiters were just sitting around chit chatting and watching television instead of waiting. It seems silly but it bothered me. I'm paying money for a night out and you're just watching television.... Overall it was alright. I may return sometime but it won't be my first choice. read more

I have not had good experiences here in the past we thought we would give it one more chance their website showed it being open until 10pm we pulled in at 9:15 and we were turned away saying they were closed early. My husband and I used to go here all the time as our go to Mexican place. However it's been over a year since we have been back. I've put off writing a review for a long time. Last time we came we both ordered a quesadilla. It comes with guacamole on the side. I was dipping my quesadilla in the guacamole and noticed it had an odd shape. So I grabbed a chip and discovered a guacamole soaked paper towel or napkin in my serving of guacamole. I notified the server and all he said was "ewww" and he took my dish away. He brought back another serving of quesadilla.... and more guacamole. That was probably from the same bowel that had the paper towel it. I had already eaten a bit of my previous portion or napkin guac and was feeling a bit ill. I would think it feels similar to finding a bug or hair in your food. You just don't want to eat your food anymore. My husband didn't want to touch the rest of his meal either. The restaurant ended up paying for my meal but we still had to pay for my husbands. I am a native Texan and I decided to go here after reading all the good reviews and craving some real authentic Mexican food. It was pretty busy when I got there so I fugured it was a good sign that people liked it and decided to go in. I was sadly mistaken. Everything seemed as if it was out of a can and prepackaged. The chips were like something I could buy at a grocery store. The beans were definatly canned, terrible. I must say the cheese dip was good but whats the point if the chips suck. The tortillas were pre pakaged. I could make a better tortilla and I am a gringo. If you consider something authentic Mexican becasue the wait staff can't speak english than this is the place for you. I was station at Fort Sam Houston which is in San Antonio, Texas and been around the river walk and ate at alot of Mexican food places around there. It is funny that right here in Springfield, MO they have the best food and I didn't have to reenlist for another 14 years to try great Mexican food. I am defiantly coming back to them. If I ate some tortillas,beef,onions and salsa, I could shit better mexican food than this joint makes. My wife and I ordered the pitcher of magaritas. It cost $12 dollars. She did not like her first glass of the beverage. I, not wanting to waste, drank all but about 3 ounces of it. I would have been more buzzed if I drank a bud light(yuck). By the way we just moved here from L.A. We are not food snobs. We used to frequent a hole in the wall mexican joint that had maybe 5 tables. We use to eat here quire regularly. Something has apparently happened via a change in management because this place has gone downhill. The food use to be great and very reasonable. Still very reasonable but ordering the same items now is not nearly as good as it was 2 years ago. They service also use to be great now very sporadic and slow. They also quit putting hot sauce on the tables (you can still request it) because they say people were stealing them. The food is still pretty good but not great anymore. My fiance and I ate here for the first time and it was interesting. We did get in quickly and the food was decent, but there are better Mexican places around town. The frustrating part was that our server was very rude. He was pushy for us to order quickly, and flat out asked if we were ready to order yet. Worst dining experience my husband and i have EVER had. I know exactly what other reviewers are talking about with the rude waiter...I'm certain that's who we had tonight. Rude and pushy when ordering. Delivered our food, the order was wrong. He never once came back to check on us after delivering our food. No chip refill, no salsa refill, no drink refills. Never saw him again. After waiting for 30 minutes at the conclusion of our meal we still didn't have our ticket. We proceeded to go up to the counter and waited another 15 minutes for at least 6 employees to walk by and no one ever stopped to assist. Got take-out. Chips were badly overcooked: too long in the fryer? Salsa was watery and bland. I ordered bistec a la Mexicana, got home with the food to find that they hadn't given me any tortillas. I was hungry and cranky and did not want to drive back to store to get them. Thankfully I had some tortillas in the refrigerator. Bistec was ok. Steak was a little overcooked and tough. The waiter was stoned and when we asked about a Margarita he said we definitely needed the jumbo. So we went with it. No water was ever brought. The chips were stale. The salsa tasted like ketchup water. We were brought our jumbo margaritas and they had absolutely no tequila whatsoever. So we had to wait for our food to come before asking about the Margarita since our waiter was non existent. When we said there was no tequila in our huge margaritas he brought a wine glass out with one shot of something brown and tried to divide between the two jumbo unalcoholic drinks. This did not help. The food we ordered was mediocre. We did not see out waiter again. Yet at least 10 staff members were watching basketball in the booths next to us. When we were done we were waiting for our check. We had our coats on and we kept standing up looking for someone to come. No one came. We went to the bathroom and when we came out lo and behold there he was! He did take off one 7 dollar unalcoholic margarita after I told him I wasn't paying for a drink that had no alcohol in it. What is sad is this restaurant use to be really good. I cannot say anything good about it honestly. Ate their Saturday night and the place was filthy inside and out. We ate on the patio and it was gross and neglected. I would never go back or recommend that place to friends or family. Food was alright but the service was terrible. I havent such terrible service like that in years. We walked and host didnt say hello how are you and how many. Just sat us without saying a word. Then when he came to take our order the server didnt say anything just stood there and looked at us so we just told him what we wanted to order. After food was brought he didnt bother to ask if everything looked good or if we needed anything. He just walked away and dissappeared. We waited along time and finally had to ask the cashier where our waiter was and after a few minutes of not being able to find him she had to give us our check and a to go box. He did not get a tip. Nobody ever said a word to us while we were there. Never seen anything like it before. I've been in customer service and worked in many restaurants and thats just not how customers should be treated. After all its the customers that pay for them to be in business and the reason why they even get a paycheck. Nobody smiled there. They shouldnt be in business or get better employees and management. The service sucks, we ate at the location on Campbell, So we went back thinking that it was just that one guy, but nope next time it was the waitresses too.... I asked for a tossed salad, I got a bed of shredded lettuce with a slice of tomato on top... how boring is that? the food is so so.. staff forgets to check on you and then gives dirty looks when we asked for more water.... their margaritas are too sweet and when I asked for salt on the rim, there must have been a salt shortage because there was barely 4 spots of table salt, when I asked for more they looked at me like I was crazy. Then I asked for a pina colada, it looked nothing like the picture on their drinks book and they put streaks of grenadine in the pina colada. Who ever heard of that?, I told the male Mexican waiter that it didn't look like the book, he said to just drink it.
