The wife called me at work today and informed me that we would be going to Chuy's tonight. She said I had no say in the matter, and to be ready to go when I got home. Upon getting home, the wife and kids got into the Suburban and away we went. Off to satisfy our cravings for the best Tex-Mex in town. When we got there, we approached the hostess stand and waited to be seated. We were expecting a wait, but to our surprise, we were seated right away. Score. After a short wait, "hello, my name is Brianna, and I will be helping you out today. I'm in training, so what can I get you to drink?" Usually, hearing a waiter or waitress is "in training" can set the tone for the visit. Generally speaking, when I hear those words, I set the bar really low and do not expect stellar service. I was just hoping drinks stayed full, and the chip basket would stay full of chips as I was hangry after a long day at work. The wife and I ordered sweet tea and the kids ordered the kids sized Dr Peppers. We also must get that creamy jalapeño coming too! For anyone who has not had their creamy jalapeño, you are missing out. Order it. It's free. Brianna came back with the drinks. The sweet tea was very refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness. The kids took a drink of their Dr Pepper, and both had a sour look on their face. I took a sip of the Dr Pepper, and the syrup to carbonation ratio was off. The drinks were a bit heavy on the carbonation. We promptly sent them back and had them replaced with difference beverages. No big deal. The wife ordered chicken fajitas for two for her and the kiddos, while I ordered the taco and cheese enchilada combo (formerly the "#3" on the menu). After emptying a couple of baskets of chips and enjoying our creamy jalapeño, our food came out in impressive time. Sizzling fajitas with fresh homemade tortillas, with all the fixin's placed on the table. My plate followed right behind. The presentation, as well as the aroma was perfect! Both of our meals were very delicious. I can say without a doubt, in all of the years I have dined at Chuy's, I have never had a bad experience. They have always been consistent, and delicious. Everything here is good. I highly recommend this place, you will not be disappointed. Also, for the adults out there, they always have very tasty margaritas that do not disappoint, with seasonal flavors. My favorite is the raspberry margarita, but it is hard to come by! Wrapping up this review, I must give a shoutout to "trainee" Brianna. She did a great job, and also exceeded my expectations. Great attitude, great service, and a great smile. This was my first time at a Chuy's restaurant and I didn't know what to expect. However, the food was delicious! I took off a star for authenticity because it is not real Mexican food, but you can't beat the flavor. The white salsa is amazing and addictive' I want the recipe! Chuy's is famous for their creamy jalapeño ranch dip and their sauces, but beyond that, it's nothing special. It's your basic TexMex, but the pricing is reasonable and the food hits the spot. They seem to have gone downhill since the pandemic, cutting their menu down to just 1 page (back and front) and being understaffed (but isn't everyone nowadays?), but I still enjoy dropping in for the jalapeño ranch and boom boom sauce (plus the margs!). Best things on the menu are the fajitas, Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom enchiladas, and the burritos. And, of course, the drinkable creamy jalapeño ranch sauce. I was hesitant about this place since it is a chain but man is it good! I came here for an event that was being hosted here and the staff did a great job accommodating the event. They made sure everyone had drinks and quickly brought in the party trays of food when it was time for us to eat. All of the food was amazing! I loved the creamy jalapeño dip with the chips and guacamole. The steak fajitas were also delicious and very flavourful. I loved how the party trays also had rice/beans and all the taco condiments you could want. I'll definitely be back to give more of the menu a try. read more

I would have given a 5, but towards the end of our meal a Bartender was VERY rude! (This was Saturday March 29th at around 4:30) A waitress brought me the wrong cocktail. I took it to that Bartender (she is short, long hair in a ponytail. Hispanic I would say. Wish I got her name!) she said what did I want her to do about it. It was not her problem! She should have gave me the correct drink! They brought me a Lime Margarita. I am allergic to Tequila! My drink was the Lemonaide with Vodka. This Bartender should be more FRIENDLY! I am from Indiana, and I had never been to a Chuy's until I moved to Texas. I thought it was going to be another mediocre Mexican Restaurant. I know there's better Mexican food in San Antonio, but for a chain restaurant, I really like Chuy's. Every time I go there, I get fajitas. I absolutely love their fajitas! The meat is tasty, and everything you want/need to put on your fajita comes on the side. I've also had a burrito there, and it was really good. However, their fajitas are my go to and favorite. I'm a huge fan of tres leches cake too. I've had tres leches at quite a few place, and I love Chuy's tres leches cake. You get a huge piece, and one piece is plenty for two people. I recommend Chuy's if your looking for some good fajitas and tres leches. The one we go to gets pretty busy, so I recommend going during an off time, like around 2 or early evening. read more

I've been to this Chuy's two times now, and the second experience was better. The first time we went, husband and I ordered the bean and cheese burrito with deluxe tomatillo sauce and some fish tacos. Of course, all of this was accompanied by rice, beans, chips, salsa, and the infamous jalapeno ranch. The fish tacos didn't have enough sauce on them and were a bit dry. The burrito was very good and that deluxe tomatillo sauce is GREAT. It's tangy and light, creamy and bright which are some of my favorite flavor combos. The salsa and ranch were very bland that day so that was disappointing since it was my first Chuy's experience and I had heard so much about these! The rice was also kinda dry, but not terrible. We came back a second time because I was craving that been and cheese burrito and sauce, and this time my husband got the beef fajita burrito (fried up) with the Tex-Mex sauce plus we got the loaded queso. The bean and cheese burrito was again great. The queso was 10/10 and I will be ordering that every time I go! The fajita burrito was definitely better than the fish tacos! It wasn't life-changing, but it's a good option for future visits. The Tex-Mex sauce is robust and pretty good if you like that kind of peppery taste. The biggest improvement of this time was the salsa and ranch! They were both sooo good! I'm glad we came back for a second chance! It is a bummer to know they aren't consistent, however. The service was not bad, but they seemed really busy even though there weren't many people dining. It took an abnormally long time for our waters to arrive and there were no napkins for us until we asked after all our food came out. Overall, this place is good but not amazing. It has some good menu items and some items to pass over. I will come back when I'm wanting a nearby Tex/cantina experience! read more

Their salsas are sooo good I can eat them for hours and not get tired of them, both salsas are equally delicious. We were seated right away on a Saturday for lunch. The only negative comment is that the indoor restaurant was FREEZING. Luckily, I brought a hoody to keep me warm, but my grandson was really cold too. its a shame that I went into the Selma location to get a meal today. I waited at the counter for the hostess for a few minutes. Her name was Cassie, she seated me and returned to the table a few minutes later with chips and dip. i sat at the table for at least 20-25 minutes with several waiters/ waitresses passing by. still no help so I could order. never did anyone come to me for my drink order nor meal food. I saw a waiter that was at the drink station and asked him to get me the bill for the Chips and dip I also told him that I had been there for a while and that I hadn't been waited on. I asked for the Manager he was unable to find her for several minutes. eventually he found her and when she came over to me, she offered to make me a Togo toco. the way she said it was as though she wanted to give me something to get me out of the store. Oh, by the way the managers name was Ashley. I've been to many different Chuy restaurants and this one was just as good as the other ones. I think this chain is the best tex-Mex dine in restaurant there is. The food is always consistent, with a plentiful amount and priced really well. We came in here with a large group of people and had reservations before. We got there abs our table was ready and fresh chips, salsa, abs jalapeño ranch cilantro sauce came out immediately and was continuously coming out that I ate more chips than I probably should. I think this place is one of those places you have to go to while in Central Texas just because it's so iconic. The service is always excellent here and it has a relatively fun atmosphere. The food is interesting, they have a creamy jalapeno sauce that is an acquired taste, but it gets better as you get more used to it and actually you start to like it with your chips. This place is a super cool place to eat especially with family and friends visiting from out of town! They always have a good friendly staff with a fun and exciting ambiance which makes you buy into their brand. But...today there were cockroaches climbing the walls in the dining room. Not one. Three. Absolutely disgusting. The adults seated behind the wall where they were crawling freaked out. Their kids wanted to play with the roaches. BUT...I know there's a lot of food around and it's an old building. The manager come over and said they've been having plumbing work done and that's why. I asked to be seated else where and I was told they didn't have any other options. Three families that looked distinctly different than my family came in right after me and while my family and I were debating if we wanted to stay or relocate they magically had other available sections.
