It's been about 3 yrs since they opened... and we had friends in town that wanted to have their jalapeño ranch dip! Last Saturday, we went around 630 without a reservation. Initially, the wait was quoted 25-30 min for inside and more than 45 min for outside. Surprisingly, almost 10 min later, an outside table was ready for us! They brought complementary chips and salsa, as well as jalapeño ranch dip (obviously our friends were thrilled! I guess not all locations offer this complementary). UPDATE:: I went back to this Chuys a couple weeks later with my parents who were visiting from out of town. It was a weekday at lunchtime, not entirely busy. Server messed up on all three of our orders. It took an extra 10-15 minutes to get our food in addition to the long time we had originally waited. One out of two chicken tacos, one didn't have hardly any chicken. It didn't do any good to bring it to our servers attention because too much had been messed up at this point. The manager came by and asked if everything was corrected, but did not apologize. This place is unique. It has a great ambience of intentionally kitschy Mexican decor. Every time we have been there service has been great--attentive, accurate, and they have lavished upon us piles of fresh chips, extra creamy jalapeño dip, and salsa. They even sent us home with our leftovers accompanied by an extra helping of chips, salsa, and jalapeño dip! The food is uniquely Tex-Mex, which offers a nice alternative to the pleasant but mundane offerings provided by most Mexican restaurants (e.g., Tapatio, San Jose, etc.). I found the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom enchiladas to be very nice, the taco and enchilada combo was enjoyed by my wife, and my brother in law was quite happy with his burrito. The are several different sauces to select from, which you can choose to have on your entree if you don't care for the default one. My family has had such a hard time with online orders during COVID-19. I know it is hard to come up with a takeout process that can suit the number of orders, but Chuy's has put in the work and it shows!! The pickup process was so smooth and easy, and when I ordered online the steps popped up, they came up on my email confirmation, and they were posted at the parking space I pulled up to. I pulled up, texted my park number, name, and type of order (online) and they came right out! Plus, the food was delicious. Hot and so good even after a 15 minute drive home. I was supposed to graduate from NC State today, but obviously didn't get to and my parents were visiting and this smooth experience really made our night after some bad takeout experiences lately. After spending my early and formative years growing up in Central & Southern California, I've considered myself a good judge of Mexican Food. This restaurant is probably my favorite of all time! They have quite a few locations and I've been to each one I can, every time I've had a wonderful experience. The staff is always friendly and willing to go the extra mile towards helping their customers, and the fun decor throughout the restaurant makes for a very fun experience. Their menu is quite large and everything I've tried has always been fantastic. The jalapeño ranch is something I could eat every day and never tire of! We went to Chuys on a Saturday night and found the place was packed. This is supposed to be a good indication. However, what was to come was a combination of extremely bad service and poor food. Service: While our server was prompt in getting our drinks and food orders, it was apparent that he was very careless in everything that night. There were no napkins on the table, no silverware, no quarter plates, and we had to ask him for each of these things individually. Normally, if they forget (which is quite understandable on a busy night) a single request is enough to have them bring out everything. Food Service: We got started with the chips and salsa. The chips were warm and fresh but the salsa was ok. The server also brought out a few other spicier saucer which really weren't that spicy to be honest. Ofcourse, that doesnt stop one on munching on the warm chips. The food took a while coming out and everything seemed to be put together sloppily. The rice portions were inconsistent, there were sauces missing on the enchiladas (I dont really understand how that could happen), the server forgot a taco on one of the plates (they are supposed to serve 3 tacos but instead just put 2 in there), there were beans missing and we had to request (remind) them to bring out all the missing food. Overall, it just seemed someone was in a hurry to get off work that night. Food: Overall, the food was strictly okay in flavor. I ordered the enchilladas and the tortillas were a bit dry and the chicken was bland. The sauce had a good flavor. The chile rice and the charro beans were strictly ok. Overall, everything had a "frozen meal" feel to it instead of a freshly made feel that one would expect. What a disappointment! I looked forward to a good chicken fajita since the reviews were promising. What I got was only semi warm with room temperature rice and beans. I asked for the rice and beans to be reheated. They brought me a second one which was a equal room temp. The fajita had a good amount of chicken but the green peppers and onions had been precook end, were very soggy and there was an extremely small amount. The bowl of toppings was nicely presented. The tortilla was thick and chewy, not like the thin tortillas I am accustomed to in a good Mexican restaurant. I debated speaking to the manager but didn't want to fuss in front of my friend. I choked down one tortilla and a bite of beans and that was it. I would NOT go back, would NOT recommend it and wasted $16 on this terrible plate. read more

My spouse and I visited Chuy's in Raleigh on the week of March 9th. We were seated right away and greeted by a wonderful waitress. It was great as it reminded me of being back home in Austin. It is a nice looking restaurant with a great deck but as pretty as it is, it was also pretty empty (I should have taken a hint). I was so looking forward to tucking into to some TEX-MEX! We ordered the cheese enchiladas with Tex-Mex sauce and the shrimp tacos. I could not believe what we were served. The taco were cold and inside were three grease soaked, thumb nailed sized shrimp and hardly any sauce. The enchiladas were a bigger disappointment, not even set properly on the plate, they arrived cold and dry, with very little sauce which hardened on the tortillas and where the heck did the cheese go... The rice and beans on both plates were cold, dry and certainly from yesterday, they might have even served them right from the can. I am certain the rice from an uncle ben's pouch. One thing for sure, there is no QA on the food. It is an absolute disgrace serving food like that! No effort was given in producing this food. The finale! Our friendly waitress appeared a bit annoyed when we asked for the check two minutes after receiving our meals. We tipped well so I hope she understands it was not her. I was so happy Chuy's was in town, now I just need to forget that it is there. read more

Wow, I was pleasantly surprised at how great the food tasted! The atmosphere is fun, eclectic and there is a lot to look at and take in. Our waitress was high energy and since we had never been there before, she let us taste EVERY single signature sauce on the menu (boom-boom sauce is where it's at). She definitely went above and beyond. She almost squealed with excitement when I ordered tonight's (Monday) special - the fried stuffed avocado. I was excited she was so excited. But I was even more over the moon when I cut into the crispy Panko covered avo and the chicken filling oozed out ...numfrigginnum... i was in texmex heaven... I'll go back just for that dish again.
