Having lived in Austin, Texas and a regular patron of the original I was both excited to go to Chuy's Gainesville and concerned that they wouldn't be able to match the magic of the original. Happily they didn't disappoint, the food is spectacular and the restaurant itself has just as much character as the original. Good grief I don't understand the draw to this place. This was my first time and LAST time eating here. This was the BLANDEST food I have ever eaten. Made me remember when I had covid and couldn't taste anything. The tortilla was literally like paper, not even joking. Okay so I didn't expect to live this place as much as I did to be completely honest. Great service. Great food. Great drinks. The queso was some of the best queso I've had in a very long time. The New Mexican cocktail was absolutely delicious. Just the right amount of sweet and salty. I will say the tacos were simply prepared. But it was absolutely delicious when I added the creamy jalapeño dressing to them. They have a great outdoor eating space for those who prefer this as a safer option. Normally, my go-to is not Tex-Mex food so I don't have much knowledge on this cuisine. My Anglo-Saxon boyfriend who is picky and annoying about food likes them and they are close by to our residence so we've been ordering to-gos from them more often. I'm learning as I go. Overall, I will say it's worth a try. They have good customer service for the most part and everyone I've talked to so far has been helpful and friendly so that's always a plus. The thing that has kept me coming back beside the location convenience, service and reward program is definitely the tres leches and flan. Also, they have give you great chips, salsa and white jalapeño sauce with your order! We both enjoy the Baja Soft Tacos. But when I've branched out, I was not really fully satisfied. One time, I was craving Steak Fajitas. But what I got was more of a burrito. I didn't complain but that has haunted me months later. I finally got my Fajita fix at Las Margarita's several weeks later. Today, I decided to try the Server's favorite dish, the Chimichanga. It looked inviting and delicious. The ginormous size of it was deceiving though; not as much protein as I would have liked. There was more tortilla than there was filling. It had a good crunch; the only problem was that it left me lethargic and I only had finished 3/4th of it. I'm not sure if there's a choice of protein but I wasn't asked and I was given chicken. I wonder if that made a difference as chicken would not have been my first choice. Oh well, live and learn. My biggest complaint about this establishment is that they charge you an additional "packaging" fee for To-gos. It wasn't until my 3rd or fourth visit that I had noticed it on their menu. We got this little tiny cup for seven dollars but I think the biggest thing was the glass that I had and the cross-contamination with the meat I asked for the cheese enchilada to be separated. The waiter was super honest and informative, a bit witty which was kind of funny and a good add to the night. They had super big entree dishes so if you're ready for a big meal i would say go for one of those. I got the Taco salad and it was...a lot bigger than i expected. Don't be fooled by the word "salad." I would have to say though that my favorite part was the chips and salsa. The waiter kept bringing more out as soon as the bowl was empty, and i was NOT complaining. I probably ate more calories worth of chips than my actual entree but they were that addicting. I was really excited to try this place based off of my friend's recommendation, and honestly the food was great! I even loved the weirdly eclectic and sometimes hilarious wall art and décor. Unfortunately, my experience last weekend was pretty awful! After a long day, a group of us went here for dinner. While everyone at the table received their food at the same time, mine didn't arrive until 30-35 minutes later, after everyone had finished eating. Our server asked what I had ordered, as if she'd forgotten, and upon her return said it was my side of (two tiny little) flautas taking too long. Yet, the whole table had intricate food items and combination platters. I ended up having to get a to-go box before my food arrived because I didn't want to keep everyone waiting. The server didn't offer me anything for it being late; not an app, drink or dessert. Additionally, she did not offer me any discounts. First time to any Chuys. I'm not big fan of chains but this place did a great job. We all had different food and everyone was happy. We had great service as well from our waiter Alexander. Crunchy sirloin tacos were nicely presented and tasted perfect. Chicken tacos were done well and my baja tacos really hit the spot - one shrimp and one fish. Queso was tasty and not too salty like other places. It was green chile celebration time so I ordered a side of it to put on chips - VERY GOOD. For my group's weekly evening get-together, this time around we decided to hit up Chuy's. We had thought about going there once before, but that fell through for various reasons, so a second attempt finally happened and we got in there. First, let's get into describing Chuy's... I have been to this one once or twice before in the past, but my first experience at a Chuy's was in Oklahoma City of all places. The restaurant is setup as a somewhat kitschy Mexican restaurant, with lots of Tex-Mex memorabilia strewn around as decoration. The one thing they do well is table isolation... because the building is laid out as numerous alcoves you don't get a strong feel for just how many people they can pack into the place, nor do you get the overwhelming noise you would get from a single room atmosphere. Noise levels are fair, which makes conversation easier to deal with. I consider this a good thing. It wasn't a busy night, even for a Friday, since all of the students were still out of town, so getting a table for seven of us wasn't an issue. Drink orders were taken, and they arrived without issue, then the food orders were taken. I took the plunge and ordered a combination fajita platter. Others ordered their dishes, in some cases not realizing just how big their plate was going to be. The table that we had been seated at was, unfortunately, a wee bit undersized. When my order came out, I was stacking things in creative ways in order to fit them appropriately, and putting fajitas together required a bit of juggling. However, I will say that when you order the fajitas, you get what you are paying for. The meat and veggies on the hot plate are about what you would expect if you have ever ordered fajitas in a Tex-Mex restaurant, but the cold veggies with guacamole and sour cream was much larger than I am used to, which was nice. We all ate our food while conversing and carrying on, then packed up the left-overs because a lot of the food was in abundance. It was a good time for all! read more

Chuy's is always a good choice in my book. They are a chain restaurant that feels like a local spot, with a fun ambiance and REALLY GOOD FOOD. I'm giving Chuy's a 5 because I just don't think there's anything that I would want them to improve. I'm super happy with my service, food, and overall experience every time I go. My husband and I got lunch at Chuy's yesterday, and I regret that I didn't take more photos of the restaurant. We were sitting near the tortilla making station, where an employee was rolling out and tossing all of the tortilla taco and burrito shells by hand. It's things like this that make the difference - the things that I can't really put into a picture, like the taste of their fresh made tortillas. I also LOVE (and come on, everyone else does too) their signature creamy jalapeno sauce. I mean there's not much better than dipping one of those freshly fried, crispy chips into creamy jalapeno and then into their fresh salsa. WOWWW. I'm so hungry just thinking about it. I feel like I could swim in that creamy jalapeno sauce. I probably shouldn't, because calories, but wow. Food/Price: I LOVE fajitas, but don't always love paying for them unless I'm splitting them with someone, so I typically get the tacos al carbon. It's basically a fajita in a taco shell - A FRESH HOMEMADE TACO SHELL. Anyways, the meat is grilled with peppers and onions, then you have the whole fajita spread of toppings - guac, pico, lettuce, cheese, rice, beans. Then of COURSE you top it all off with some creamy jalapeno sauce IN that taco. YUMMMMMM. I ate half of my lunch and saved the other half for today (it's a great portion size). The whole meal was $11. OK THE BEST THING I'VE BEEN WAITING TO TELL YOU ABOUT - the happy hour nacho bar. When they say "fully loaded nacho bar" they mean it! It has chips, meat, and cheese, and then of course at your table you can get salsa (think kind of pico like - fresh), and then creamy jalapeno. I cannot tell you how many times I've gone to Chuy's and ordered a beer or a marg and had fully loaded nachos and that's my dinner. I've had friends go and order full meals and then they regret not just eating the nacho bar. It's THAT GOOD. Anyways, I'm done fawning over Chuy's. Can you see why I love it? My wife and I just finished dinner at the Gainesville Chuy's. I was very disappointed, to say the least. I ordered chicken fajuitas. When they brought our food out, everything looked OK. When I took my first bite of the chicken, everything went downhill. The chicken was not even warm. I checked the temp on the plate, and it was hot. I assumed that they put a piece of precooked chicken on a hot plate, hoping that the plate would heat up the chicken. I called the waitress over and handed her a piece of cold chicken and expressed my concern. She told me she would bring the issue to the attention of the manager. She left and returned a few minutes later and told me that she spoke with the kitchen staff and the manager. They suggested that they would cook another plate for me. Because of the time it took to get the first plate, I declined the offer because I didn't want my wife finishing her meal and then just sit there until I was finished. I just ate the cool chicken. When we finished eating, we had to ask for the check. The waitress returned with the check, and I was, again, disappointed. There was no compensation for their mess-up. I asked to talk with the manager, who came out about 5 minutes later. I expressed my disappointment, and she said that they had offered to re-cook my meal. I explained my reasoning behind not taking that offer and that most restaurants would at least offer a discount or take that part of the bill off the check. She explained, again, that they would have re-cooked my meal. I again told her of my disappointment in their handling of my meal. I will never go back to this restaurant. I suggest all others consider my experience before doing so, as well. Of course, my next step is going to be to notify Chuy's corporate office of my experience. read more

we hadn't been able to eat at Chuy's for quite some time. The food was great as usual , but we were most impressed with Donnel the Bar Manager who was handling the front of house duties . He was hustling...handling the lunch rush , setting tables, greeting and seating customers. As we were about to finish we noticed him back at the tortilla making station where he grabbed a fresh made tortilla hot off the griddle and handed it to a little boy watching through the glass. I have finally remembered to check-in and take photos of our food and drink. Though somehow I just realized the pic pf my chicken taco salad did not make it here. Oh well. The truth is Chuy's needs no review from me to support how fabulous they are. I'll just put it like this... ANY time we have company in town (friends or family) they ALWAYS want to come here to eat. My in-laws love it. Our friends from Dallas love it. Our friends from Pittsburgh say they dream about the tacos. I think we have eaten at this establishment more than any other restaurant in the city since we moved here three years ago. Everything is always extremely fresh. The Salsa is so tasty and that is not even to mention all the other sauces you can get for FREE in addition to the chips and salsa. My favorites are the tomatillo or the hatch green chile. But my twin loves the creamy jalapeno. Another funny thing is that almost everyone I know gets the same thing every time they come here. My hubby likes either The Elvis Presley Memorial Combo or the Comida Deluxe meal. My twin and I always split our meals so we order the chicken flautas or chicken tortilla soup with a chicken taco salad (use the salsa as the "salad dressing.") My mom-in-law always gets the Baja grilled shrimp tacos. But those are only a few of the excellent items they have for you to eat. The fajitas in the background were also tasty and filling. My niece who came with us has egg and nut allergies and we have never had a issue here. (Big plus) This is the point in the review where things turn sideways. I have not been to this Chuys once in the last 2 years where my party and I didn't have to immediately use the restroom afterward. IMMEDIATELY! Went to Chuy's for dinner and you immediately notice the restaurants themed Mexican décor which gives it a fun atmosphere. We were greeted and sat immediately by the host, and our server arrived with chips and salsa in hand and took our drink orders promptly. For dinner we ordered the Chile Con Queso as an appetizer and it was very good! Nicely seasoned, and very flavorful. For dinner I ordered the Soft Tacos with Seasoned Ground Sirloin and my boyfriend ordered the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom. My soft tacos were good and what you expect soft tacos to be. You can tell the flour tortillas are fresh though which added to the taste. My boyfriend loved the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom. He started devouring his meal before I could even take a picture. As always I made sure to try the ranch sauce. Out of a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the best, I would give it a 6. The ranch did taste homemade, but there was definitely a stronger sour cream presence taste than anything. Our server checked on us often and made sure we had refills and sour cream when requested. I haven't been here in months and a friend decided we should meet here for lunch. Overall experience was that this place is just ok.... would not need to come back for a while. I had the enchiladas and the taste was very bland. nothing like the enchiladas I get when I go to La Pasadita in town. The chips they bring to the table were good, it came with a ranch dipping sauce that I liked and the salsa had a good kick, but not too much. Overall, it wasn't bad, but they could definitely do better. The service was okay as well, nothing great. If you get anything from this review, it should be that you will have an okay experience if you go to Chuy's, nothing stellar... just basic.
