I have been to the location at N Lamar Blvd in Austin Texas. This is one seems bigger, and busier. There is all kinds of gaudy decorations upon the walls. I was greeted a little slower than what would be ideal but I was in no hurry. The salsa and chips we're good. I had the boom boom chicken. I liked it. The creamy sauce had just the right amount of spicy. The beans were runny which was disappointing. Not sure if that's how they are supposed to be here. The bartender lady kept my iced tea full. I love Chuy's and frequent this location and the one in Lexington, KY. My parents and I tried to eat dinner here Saturday night. It was around 4:45, and we were leaving Costco. I called to see if they had call ahead seating. They don't, but the girl on the phone said the wait for 3 was about 20min. We drove directly from Costco to Chuy's which took no longer than 5 min. When we walked up to put our name in, the wait time had changed to 45min. The hostess that greeted us was abrupt and kind of snooty. We took the pager for the wait time and moved aside. There isn't a large area to wait, and we were going to have to wait outside in the cold. Because of this we decided to go somewhere else. When my Dad returned the pager and asked to remove our name from the wait list, the hostess made the comment, "Try coming back when it's not night time." She gave us a cold scowl. I came here for lunch after I had my very first bridal appointment at David's Bridal!! The service was great! I had a small wait due to the size of our party, but that was okay with us, it was not very long. Our server was attentive and answered any and all questions that we had about the menu! Chuy's is a chain, in case you weren't aware. It's a chain that started in Austin, Texas many moons ago. It's Tex-Mex food with an Elvis problem. My first experience with Chuy's was actually at the Austin original location when I lived there as a teenager. It's a staple of campy dining down there. When my mom heard they were building several in Ohio, she kept an ear out for whisperings of whether a location would be in Columbus. Thankfully, this one sprang up. I will admit that this is not fancy, highbrow dining. There is no way this comes even close to authentic Mexican food. If you go in expecting something close to either, you will be thoroughly disappointed. But if you know classic Austin Tex-Mex and enjoy it, if you like unique spins on funky dishes and Elvis inspired treats, if you like a kitchy decor and consistency in your meal and pleasant wait staff, you will probably enjoy Chuy's. read more

Ugh, what is wrong with this location? I've been to 5 other Chuy's in Kentucky and Ohio and loved them all. I chose to celebrate my birthday here and it couldn't have gone worse. I have broken toes and they called us after our 15 minute wait to the stand, and instead of taking us to the table (I was clearly limping) they made us stand there as the staff chatted and shared a pack of gummy worms!? Finally my sister asked why they called us up if they don't have a table ready. The guy just stared at her and said "umm." Literally didn't get more of a response than that. After about 5 more minutes someone finally walked us to a table. There was still stuff on the table and a check. Our waitress was clearly overworked and made no conversation or suggestions. We ordered frozen margaritas and had she asked we would have ordered a different size after looking around. They came out a dripping sticky mess. We had to ask twice for creamy jalapeño dip, and we ordered quesadillas. They for some reason wiped the sour cream off the plate!? If you put it on there, why wipe it off?? See the pics attached. Expensive (for Mexican) and mediocre. Lots of unauthentic corporate kitchen concoctions and knick knacks all over the walls like 80's-style places like Max & Erma's and TGI Friday's. I had a chicken enchilada stack and it was dry and the chicken was unseasoned. I sampled the two green chile sauces hoping for something resembling New Mexico-style and was disappointed with both. They both used canned chiles as their base and were too salty due to the addition of beef broth and chicken broth. The side of beans were also from a can. The chips are so thin you can't scoop the salsa, which is both chunky and watery, so they break and the salsa drips all over you and the table. An OK place for margaritas but not for food. read more

Service was fast and our server was very nice and efficient. The food was hot and fresh. The serving sizes were ample. Now the bad. Way too loud. The food was not tasty. While it was fresh and hot, it just did not taste good. The salsa was VERY tart. I like sour a lot but it was too sour . I had the Elvis plate. The enchilada with green salsa was OK. Lots of mixed reviews on Chuy's. Maybe we came on a good day and we did come after the lunch rush but I really liked it. Service was friendly, apps came out with in a few minutes of ordering, piping hot. Entrees came out a few minutes later. Big basket of thin white corn chips, fresh out of the fryer, salsa was moderately chucky, a little spicy and lime heavy but good. App platter; Nachos, quesadillas, flautas, chile con queso. Everything was made with fresh tortillas, the chicken in the flautas was not dry but was a little bland, dipping it in the delicious queso helped. Elvis green chile fried chicken; I didn't have real high hopes for this, I ordered it more for the novelty, "yo dawg, I heard you like deep fried, so we deep fried some chips and used 'em for breading on your deep fried chicken". It wasn't bad, the chicken was moist, the green chile sauce was tasty, it was topped with but not completely smothered with cheese. The green chile rice was good, the refried beans were ok. Flan; yeah its good, smooth yet dense and creamier than some creme brulee's I've had. Pretty standard Tex-Mex joint with all the usual suspects (tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc) I wasn't overly impressed with the service at the bar area, having to ask several times for silverware and my friend's drink being forgotten even though there were 2 bartenders and only 5 people at the bar (as a previous restaurant bartender I recognize they were also making drinks for the tables, however, they weren't very busy when we were there) I ordered the chalupa and enchilada combo and it was pretty good. An section of the menu was dedicated to explaining the sauces available which I thank Chuy's for because I like knowing what an establishment's take on certain sauces are. I found the Boom Boom sauce, though delicious in words, to be a bit lackluster in real life. The beef from the chips & salsa car bar was wonderfully flavorful though which made up for the lack of "boom" in the Boom Boom sauce. If needing a quick serve yourself nacho fix, I would definitely return during happy hour, otherwise there are far more flavorful places to get my Tex-Mex fix read more

What the hell is the hype here? This place was a pretty big disappoint me for me, but I should have known with all the hype surrounding it that it was going to let me down. Just because a place at Easton has a long wait, doesn't mean it's great (Except you, Flipside). It just means it's the new flavor in town, and everyone who hasn't seen a new Tex-Mex place since On The Border comes flocking to see it. I will say that I do like the chips and salsa, especially since that salsa has a nice kick to it. You can go grab your own chips like Local Cantina, and I guess during happy hour they offer a free Loaded Nacho Car in it's place. I'd go to grab and drink and have this, but that's really the only reason I'd return. Even then I'd head somewhere else, because the place is deceivingly small, and you probably won't be able to get a bar spot anyway. Everyone talking about the creamy jalapeno ranch: It's ranch. You're dipping tortilla chips in ranch dressing. As for the rest of the salsas and hot sauces, we tried three of the hottest ones they have, and not only were they not very hot, they all tasted the same. You could tell the colors were slightly different, but the flavors were indistinguishable and bland. The salsa is hotter than the hot sauces. My buddy and I both had the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and it was pretty underwhelming. The chicken was decent, and the sauce on top was okay, but the rest of the flavor was just not there. I was expecting more as one of their signature items. This was slightly seasoned chicken in a tortilla covered in cheese. My girlfriend's Comida Deluxe was just okay as well, but you could just go to Mi Tradicion five minutes away and get some better Tex-Mex. I wish restaurants would just spare the whole everything made to order and only freshest ingredients spiel. I'm glad you can get great ingredients, but that doesn't make a meal. Someone could get me some high quality meat and vegetables, and I could put together a meal for you, but that doesn't automatically make it amazing. The food here just didn't seem to have any inspiration or uniqueness to it. I wish I could get why people like this, but I don't. I'm giving this place a 2, because it reminds me of the Mexican I grew up eating in the 90s (On The Border and Chi Chi's). If you're going out of your way to deal with Easton just to try this place out, take a hard pass. They've usually got an hour wait, so they won't be hurting for business. read more

So early this evening we went to Chuy's for a special occasion. It was time for my wife and I to resume our diet on Monday and we wanted to enjoy a nice dinner before we got back to healthier eating. We had saved going to Chuy's as a special treat to ourselves, a last meal if you will, based on the amazing reviews we had read. Long story short, terrible food, terrible server and no manager available when I went to complain about how our server treated us. Let me back up a bit and say that my family loves Mexican food. My daughter loves decorating her fajitas, we all love chips and beans and rice and all that goes with going to a good Mexican restaurant. Our meal started well enough with the chips and salsa. The chips were nice and crispy and the salsa, although kind of a disgusting color, was good. And then our server, Jakob M entered the picture. Apparently he was more interested in flirting with the booth of teenage girls sitting next to us to get our order right. I asked for the alternative salsa which was a ranch based dip and it arrived 50 minutes after my original request. After we ordered we never saw our server again, except to watch him flirt with the table of teenage girls. My wife wanted to order a margarita but our server carefully avoided our table and all eye contact as he doted and laughed with the table to teenage girls. Needless to say the drink was never ordered. Once our food order arrived, it was wrong, with the wrong side items, wrongly plated (my wife asked for the beans and rice on the side, not touching her Chuychanga, and our daughter's fajitas were missing all of the toppings. My youngest daughter's food was ice cold. When I asked our server to correct my wife's order he actually looked at my wife and huffed. Seriously... he huffed right at her face. At this point I went to the hostess station and asked to see a manager. I was told one would come out "right away." No manager ever come, in fact, there wasn't even a manager walking around to check on guests. No clue if there was even a manager on staff, because clearly the staff in our section didn't give a rat's rear end because servers were few and far between during our 65 minute stay. As far as the food... it was bland, mostly tasteless and probably the worst Mexican food we have ever eaten. The chicken tasted like it was boiled with fajita strips painted on. And again, I tried to complain about the service, about the food, but no manager would ever show up. Once we were home my wife's indigestion was so bad that she went to bed early sick to her stomach. Not our typical Saturday night to say the least. Avoid this place, it does not deserve it's reputation. Bland food, incorrect orders, terrible servers... there really is nothing to recommend. Is there some kind of law or zoning ordinance that mandates that any restaurant in or near Easton must be a commercialized, venture-capitaled, faux-cultural, suburbia-compatible Date-Night-approved cheesefest? I blame the Cheesecake Factory. They started this. They will pay for their sins. Someday. Between Cooper's Hawk and P.F. Chang's and just about every other restaurant at Easton (except Northstar), your dining experience has been focus-grouped, tested and sanitized for your protection. In this case, literally. Your silverware comes in a little paper pouch that proclaims that it has been, no lie, sanitized for your protection. Is that supposed to be charming? Funny? Reassuring? Because it's actually kinda creepy. So the gimmicks start when you walk in the door, with the oh-so-cutesy chopped off back end of a car that serves as a chips-and-salsa bar. I will say one thing - the chips are pretty darn delicious. They are super thin and crisp, helping you avoid that "I ate too many tortilla chips and now I can't eat dinner" issue. The salsa, however, was tasteless and mushy. Also, our waiter was very nice. I had a glass of sangria that was miles too sweet. Sangria should taste identifiably like wine. This tasted like Kool-Aid. The menu was the usual array of tex-mex dishes - enchiladas, tacos, chiles rellenos, with some carefully-chosen quirks thrown in like chicken breast breaded in potato chips. I had the Chuychanga. It was tasteless and boring, the filling was vaguely chickeny and creamy, and the two different sauces I had on the side were not memorable at all. The Mexican rice was dry and again, flavorless as cardboard, and the beans were...well, you sense a theme. I ate about half my dinner and asked for a box, which I accidentally-on-purpose left behind (I didn't actually mean to, but I realized I had when I was just outside the door and didn't bother to go back, so take from that what you will). There was "folk art" on the walls that was probably mass-produced. The chain began in Austin TX, and their original location probably has legitimate eclectic decor, like Starliner's, but that kind of thing is just not possible to organically reproduce on a large scale and to me it just ends up feeling...patronizing. Faux eclecticism, faux quirk, faux tex-mex for all I know - I don't claim to be an expert on tex-mex, in fact it's not one of my preferred food styles, but I cannot believe that tex-mex is supposed to be this bland and commercialized. This review turned in to a bit of a rant. Sorry 'bout that. I actually started out intending to give it two stars and ranted my way to one. It's not entirely your fault, Chuy's. I'm just frustrated with the proliferation of boring chain restaurants when there are so many not-boring restaurants in Columbus. I was a regular Chuy's go-er for years when I lived in San Antonio. My friends and I would meet up on weekends for lunch, shopping, and a movie and Chuy's was often our lunch of choice. First of all.. Tex Mex is delish. I could bore you by explaining the origins of TexMex and it's connection to the Hill Country of Central Texas, with it's German immigrant population living alongside the locals in what then Mexico... but this isn't a history lesson, it's a Yelp review. Anyway... that Chuy's can pull off food this delicious on a national scale is pretty amazing. The chicka chicka boom-boom is my personal favorite dish. Before my most recent visit in Columbus, it's been at least 6 years since I had last had it and it was exactly the same as I remember. Pretty incredible when we take into account the years and miles. I also love there chili con queso: you cannot go wrong by starting your meal with it. However, be warned... the chips are delicious and you may impact your ability to finish your dinner if you over-indulge! I wish I could tell you that other things on the menu are great... I am sure they are. But, I can't remember ever having anything other than the chicka chicka boom-boom and, due to the queso, I've never had dessert.
