Alyeska Resort - Christmas sangria

Alyeska Resort near Anchorage - a True Alaskan Gem ! Alyeska…read moreResort is pure decadence, nestled amongst the most beautiful towering pine trees and breathtaking mountains. From the moment I arrived, the warm and inviting ambiance made me feel completely at home. The resort offers an impressive array of amenities - selection of restaurants, helpful concierge, fitness center, indoor pool and hot tub, a luxurious spa for ultimate relaxation, and endless outdoor activities like skiing (and a gondola and chairlift are right outside the back entrance!), hiking, and scenic tram rides to showcase Alaska's natural beauty. The highlight of my stay in addition to the skiing and spa, was the Club Lounge on the 8th floor for guests staying on that level. It's such a treat - delicious food and drinks served twice a day, plus snacks available all day and evening. It truly elevated the experience plus I met such nice and interesting people! I would love to return to this gem of a resort!

The only downside to the whole experience is the lack of Vegan friendly options at the Bistro spa restaurant. The only viable option for us was the hummus veggie tray $24 which looked like someone chopped up some vegetables and threw them on a tray. They did have a spa bowl $35 where you pick between a salmon protein or tofu. All the sauces available with the salmon are not offered (Animal products) for the Vegan option so basically you're left with a bowl of rice with no sauces. Some of our friends who eat meat have also been disappointed with the lackluster offerings and have started bringing their own food to eat in the locker room. We've traveled the world and experienced many Vegan fine dining/bistro experiences that were exquisitely prepared. It seems the Bistro spa is more of an after thought or doesn't garner as much support which stymies the chefs and kitchen staffs creativity. If the spa bistro can elevate the culinary experience with their guests this will become a draw for diners with exceptional tastes. Below are a few menu suggestions that will hopefully invigorate future creativity. https://www.loveandlemons.com/vegan-recipes/ https://www.noracooks.com/ Sincerely, Doug and Edith McKee

Russian Jack Springs Park - Moose siting

At first I thought this park wasn't even listed on Yelp. Which is insane, it's MASSIVE. Then I…read morerealized it was listed simply as "Russian Jack Springs", which makes it sound like a quaint Canadian hot springs in the mountains...(I've since submitted an edit, it should show up with "park" in the title now) It's not that. It is a shockingly great park. It's in an area of town where you wouldn't expect to find a park, and it's quite massive. It's got green houses you can tour, a hill for sledding, trails for hiking/running, and even a GOLF COURSE and CLUBHOUSE. Is it a bougie golf course and clubhouse? Of course not. But it's cheap and solid. Golf for the people! I got some BBQ from Smokehouse which is less than a mile away, ate in the park, then went for a short walk on the trails to burn off that brisket, and I was still back to work in time. Don't take Anchorage living for granted! I hope to come back in the winter to get on that sledding hill!

Is there an Alaskan Snow Snake? (see pic)…read more After the fresh snow, there are so many cool things to gander upon. And even though there is a fresh powder, the tracks are still visible and ready to be skied. I can only speak on the cross country ski trails here, but I've been super impressed with them. There is also a sledding hill, skate skiing area and a lodge style building that I've never seen open. I understand there are also community greenhouses on the property that you can check out. After three trips here and over two hours spent, I have yet to see the entire park. So much to explore, great for beginners, and well lit. For being so close to a major road, I'm amazed at how quiet and serene this place is. There's a private parking lot, off Lidia Selkregg Lane. I've never had a problem finding a spot. I think parking is free because I didn't see any fee stations.
