UPDATE: After returning home and reviewing our photos, we discovered that the scratch existed BEFORE we picked up the vehicle. Only after presenting this photographic evidence to the company did they agree to issue a refund. This confirms our suspicion that we were wrongfully charged from the beginning. WARNING TO FUTURE RENTERS: Take comprehensive photos of the ENTIRE vehicle during pickup, including close-ups of any existing damage, no matter how minor. Our arrival flight was delayed( I realize this isn't their fault/isssue). That said, they are in the hospitality business. They were notified and aware of the delay. Flight was on the ground and we were at the door at 5:55pm. Lady ignored us and locked the doors. There were a handful of renters that were left either finding a place to stay or staying in the parking lot in the rv. Checkout the following morning took a whole 10 minutes! So we had to delay our departure by 13 hours for a 10 minute process. For $4100 to rent the rv, I would think a reasonable amount of flexibility warranted. This delayed us getting to a scheduled fishing charter at cooper landing. The shuttle was also not running so we had to grab an Uber to get there. Be aware of this when considering flight times. My spouse and I recently rented a Winnebago Travato 59K for 8 days. I write the below knowing that there's not really much competition for this business and they're quite busy. When we watched the training video they sent, it was for the Travato Solis, which is significantly different (has a cassette toilet, and many different systems/features including interior & water heating). I called out of concern that they booked the incorrect RV, but was told that they use a Solis video as they're basically the same. I was eventually later told that the 59K is new to them, and discovered that they don't really know much about them and plan to discontinue them. The next chilly morning after camping in Hope, we went to turn on the interior heat and heat the water. The Trumi Combo system kept giving me error code "E6H" that I was eventually able to figure out online was something serious related to the wiring or circuitry. I called Great Alaskan and a technician was nice but wasn't able to help. Matt Miller called after a while and arranged for us to return to Anchorage (disrupting our itinerary to continue away from Anchorage) to exchange RVs. They did agree to credit us for one day due to our loss of vacation time. With the other RV, I wanted to make sure that the heat worked. The staff didn't know anything about the Trumi Combo system and brought in a technician/mechanic, who was clearly irritated and annoyed. When I asked about testing the instant heat feature, he rudely told me not to use it. Shortly afterward, the spout on the kitchen sink started popping off violently when turning on the water, often making a huge mess and one time scalding my spouse's hand when he grabbed the hot spout to try to stop it. We had to try to remember to hold the spout down when using the sink, which only left one hand free. Also, one of the shower curtains was off the rail and it took us about 1/2 hour to repair it as the hook was bent up. And the black water pull handle was missing, not a big deal once we figured it out as we used pliers. I advised them of those issues upon return. It seems they should be inspecting the vehicles better before renting them out. Although we received credit for having to exchange the RV, I submitted a claim for additional credit due to the kitchen faucet issue and turned it in. Upon following up via email, it appears that it was never turned in for processing, or ignored. After following up a couple more times, I was told that Mr. Miller denied the request. I know should have called it in and should have read the agreement requiring that, but didn't want to deal with it at the time as the only option would be to again return the RV for exchange or repair and I expected them to believe us and be reasonable -- especially with the amount of money we spent, paying in full 2.5 months in advance. While waiting for the airport shuttle, we asked staff twice about wi-fi and were curtly told that if a free SSID wasn't showing up (it wasn't, only their secured house one) then there isn't any. I know the staff was busy, but it seems like they could ask someone to fix it. The airport shuttle was awesome, and the driver was great to talk with. One other note, while waiting for the shuttle, we asked about looking at a Mercedes RV and were directed to the salesman. He responded by telling us they don't sell to non-locals (understandably) but also told us the price, which came off as though he assumed we couldn't afford one. I would rent from them again (and we loved the Travato 59K), but now know to inspect and test everything myself and immediately document and notify them of any problems (even if I don't want to return for exchange/repair). read more

Oh wow are they nice, before you've paid. Afterwards they have a very dejected attitude. The person who was checking in our RV after having to be asked 3 separate times for help needed us to open the compartments for her. Taking 30 minutes to do a walk around and say okay. Afterwards we were approached by an older lady who said that we might miss the shuttle home. Who then changed her mind without informing us that we could. I called a taxi because you know WE HAVE A FLIGHT. That's an 80 dollar difference for us and I'm a college student who just blew all he had on this trip. My father after spending 14000 on 2 rvs was a little pissed it wasn't a guarantee. The lady then instead of talking to the person who was talking ran from that confrontation just to start one with people not involved. Not to mention the quart of oil we had to add and no cruise control on the RV with "60,000 miles" for the whole 2 weeks, but you bet we paid like it was minty. It would have been one star but the man in the shuttle was extremely nice. Needless to say not a very welcoming place but the ride is nice. I don't understand all the bad reviews here, though I suspect a lot of them relate to the reality of RV holidays, vs anything specific to Great Alaskan. We rented a 32' Minnie Winnie for a two week trip earlier this year. I'm so glad I chose Great Alaskan over other operators for a number of reasons: (1) You can purchase insurance directly. I didn't want to have to go through my regular insurance - felt like too much of a pain. The extra piece of mind is totally worth it. (2) You can stay in the RV on the lot on the first night (if you arrive late) and the last night (if you have an early departure). This was incredibly handy for us and saved us a ton of money and inconvenience vs having to book hotels, additional transport, etc. (3) The RVs themselves are generally VERY new and have conveniences that other companies don't provide (such as slide-outs ,which make a huge difference to space), TVs, etc. Provisioning of the rv in terms of bedding, kitchen ware, etc, was also excellent. Our RV was immaculately clean when we arrived. Customer service the whole way through was excellent. Our only minor issue was when we got a flat tire in Denali. I had to change it myself (which was fine) but the provided jack was comically small for the size of the RV. I had to borrow a proper one from a neighboring camper. RVing is an amazing way to see and experience Alaska, and going with Great Alaskan gives you an opportunity to make the best of that experience. I would say that most of the rental RVs we saw on the road in Alaska were from Great Alaskan, and all of the other RV'ers we spoke to who rented from this company seemed very happy with their choice. And for anyone wondering, our itinerary was anchorage- Denali - Fairbanks - Kenny Lake (for Wrangell-St. Elias) - Valdez - (ferry to Whittier) - Seward - Homer - Anchorage. We have owned several RV's over the years. Currently do not own one. I like to do research beforehand, as many of you do too. We rented fro GAH for 2 weeks. There were 4 adults in a 31k Minnie Winnie. Over the 2 weeks we drove 1750 miles and boon-docked 6 of the 14 nights and we had zero problems. Took 1000's of photos and have just as many memories. We arrived after hours, but they can arrange for you to stay in your camper over night. At first I was very disappointed because our original flight got in at noon and we could hit the road. But the airline changed our schedule. But, checking in like that gave us time to review everything. So really it worked out great as we could get all unpacked and situated before we hit the road. And make sure we know how to operate everything. Returning was just easy. Pull in, unpack, go over everything. Wait for the shuttle (it was barely anything for us) and off you go. We talked to many people on our trip that also used GAH and everyone loved them. And people also that bought from them. Everyone gave them rave reviews. read more

All in all a nice RV experience however a few things that make no sense and soured the experience. - GAH is in the hospitality business and the majority of it's revenue comes from out of town visitors in Alaska to enjoy it's splendor. The fact that they close at 5pm makes no sense. A quick review of the flights in and out of ANC show this closing time does not jive with their rental customers. We were told that the closing time was due to lack of staffing....really ? The rest of the industry which chases the tourist buck adapts to the need of the market and they certainly do not with these hours. If you return late the gates will be closed and the attitude of management is "try camping at Cabellas down the road"...again really ? What if road construction, traffic or other causes a delay, you have a flight at 11pm and the gates are locked ? Even the smallest, non chain hotel has a provision for late or unattended check out. The rigs are great, most of the staff is attentive but we expect a better procedure and overall better effort for a place that is the big guy in the Great State of Alaska. read more

These people are crazy! They just handed me the keys to an RV and said have fun. I had to watch a 30min video before driving off the lot. That was easy! The RV was given to me very clean. It was stocked with clean sheets and extra blankets. They provided a operating manual which was very helpful. The staff was all real nice and very friendly. When I did have an issue they got a tech on the phone right away who was able to help quickly. Again, they have to be crazy to let me rent an RV, but by some miracle everything went perfect. I didn't hit anything or anyone. Which is an amazing feat in itself. Had they looked at me Florida driving record I think they would have thought twice. Renting an RV and camping was really great. You are allowed camp anywhere in Alaska. It's so awesome to just pull over when you get sleepy and camp for the night. If these RV's were a little higher and 4 wheel drive. I would have been able to camp in some crazy spots. In conclusion, you should rent an RV from these guys and really experience Alaska on your own time frame with no boundary's!! I put about 800 miles in a 7 day time frame onto this RV. This really took my holiday from great to amazing!! read more

Bottom line: Renting an RV is not like renting a car. Renting one in Alaska is especially complicated in ways that might not be obvious. Caveat emptor. So the good: The RV was really clean, you can stay in it overnight on their lot if you have a late flight, they will get you familiar with it if you are not an RV person. Lots of choices. They are communicative in advance. Lots of options for stuff to rent, fishing gear or grills and chairs. You can make it pretty turnkey. An RV is pretty convenient in a bunch of ways. Easier to drive than you might think. And in Alaska you can boon dock where you want, so that's great and fun. But an RV is not an off-road vehicle so make sure you know what do you and don't want to do. The good news, there are a lot of amazing places to see in Alaska without leaving paved or improved gravel roads. The not so good: A lot can go wrong on RVs, especially rental ones going out week after week. Some of that is just inconvenient kinds of things if say some appliance does not work right. But some is more serious. This is not a rental car with say Hertz locations all over the place ready to come help you out. Alaska is BIG. More can go wrong on an RV than your average Honda. And if something that is critical goes wrong when you are out of cell range (as much of the state even along major highways is especially for some carriers) *you are on your own.* They have a number to call but that's not going to do you a lot of good in a lot of places. You may not be able to make a fix. And even after reaching them it will take someone a long time to get to you. If you only have a week, or even two, one or two days of disruption is no small thing. Something to think about depending on your age, medical condition, kids along with you, all of that. What is your comfort and safety level being out there on your own for a bit if something comes up. Our RV had a serious malfunction apparently owing to a design issue on that model with the placement of the septic system. Probably developed over time and sprung up on our watch - and a not unforeseeable issue with this model. In any event, that rendered the RV not drivable and kind of disgusting (I'll spare you the details and the pics but biohazard things you don't want to be mucking with and touching at home, let alone on vacation). We were able to improvise a temporary fix but only because we could scrape up some materials - so good luck more than good planning. And it still screwed up two days for us. If we had not done that we would have been hitchhiking out. If you don't feel comfortable being able to do that sort of thing, improvising and adapting on your own, being self-reliant, then give some real thought to where you want to go and how remote. Or consider a different sort of trip, there are a lot of ways to see Alaska. Parts of Alaska are not especially remote but other parts are really out there and you will be on your own if something goes wrong. So think that through. These guys are obviously selling something so they don't really go into that part ahead of time - they focus a lot more on what happens if you, say, back into something or swap paint with another vehicle than if you have a critical malfunction. And yes those things are not super common, but they happen. read more

We have to drive the RV 75miles away to wait for technician to confirm cannot be fixed Then we had to drive another 100 miles back to their showroom to replace another RV. We confirmed the date and time that we will arrive but the replacement RV is still not ready. The ladies told us all kind of excuses that our phone and e-mail was not working etc. The 2nd RV has problem with shower drainage. Water stayed at least 45 mins to slowly run down the drain Ordered the rice cooker which has black coating came off while washing with sponge. Ordered Kettle which is not make any sound when boiling Suggestion: Find another company Don't order any additional items. Better buy new ones at Walmart Check your RV carefully before leaving the parking lot. I regretted that we had chosen this company for our first RV trip. read more

Rating 4/5. (I always add a star to my ratings to help make up for all the people that only post negative experiences). Overall we had a great experience in Alaska and with this rental. I chose the 25B as it was on the shorter side and didn't have any slideouts to deal with. It was only a 10-day trip and my first time in a motorhome. It had plenty of space for two adults and two kids. A lot of storage underneath for our suitcases and plenty inside for our clothes, personal items and food/supplies. All the GAH personnel we met were friendly and professional. They are very organized with electronic sign boards and buttoned down procedures. Nevertheless that didn't prevent them from giving us a motorhome that hadn't had its tanks dumped. I pointed out the indicators showed half full before we left and was just told, oh it's the sensors that are faulty. Turns out it's true the sensors were crap (the gray tank never worked properly but the black did) but also true that they didn't dump it before renting to us. After minimal use and two short showers one day into the rental, water was backing up out of the shower drain. So having to deal with emptying the tank prematurely after never doing it before was a pain in the rear made worse by the fact that the drain hose had 3 small leaks in it causing "liquid" to squirt out like pinholes in a hose. Since we were heading back through Anchorage a couple of days later I stopped by GAH to get a new drain hose which they gave me without questions. They also gave me additional black tank deodorants without hassle due to the dump issue. I took advantage of their free dumping station but that was something of a mistake because there was a severely damaged hose laying there that -- stupid me due to lack of experience -- decided to use instead of the brand new one I had been given. That really let the sh*t fly. I'm just wondering why they would leave that there. Are the technicians watching and laughing among themselves? Another renter said he had just used it and crap was coming out like toothpaste so I wasn't the only one. I had to give my shoes a good rinse. Fortunately I had a second pair to wear while those dried. Check out procedures were pretty standard. As other reviewers state it's a good idea to check it over as thoroughly as possible. Besides the hose and dump problems, there were a couple knives missing that they replaced before we left. I had checked with my auto insurance and determined I didn't need to purchase anything extra. When I turned it in they didn't try to charge me for anything and returning the motorhome went smoothly. Other issues I had are related to the build quality of the Winnebago. I'm glad we got a 2020 model because I'm afraid of how beaten up a motorhome many years old would be. Even in 2020 there are surprisingly a lot of quality problems. Clearly Winnebago is trying to wring money out of their investments rather than fix basic quality and ease of use problems. Here are some of the things I saw that that should have been fixed a decade ago: - refrigerator door latch is not secure. Any lateral move it swings open. I finally "solved" it by wedging a piece of cardboard under the door to shore it up but not after having our pack of 2-dozen eggs from Costco get flung out cracking many. I guess another way that might work is not to put heavy stuff in the door but that's the best place to put cans & bottles. - drawers would get flung open by hard lateral movement. No I wasn't driving crazily but Alaska roads are full of uneven pavement that causes large movement even when moving slowly. This problem would be easily fixed with a better latching mechanism. After getting flung open, one drawer wouldn't properly shut for a couple of days no matter what I did but it somehow solved itself after a screw fell out. I ended up taping drawers shut with packing tape. - side screen door handle was broken when we got it. The guy from GAH said they couldn't get spare parts and assured me we wouldn't get charged for it. It was clearly a poor design and/or poor material choice since it's a handle that naturally gets pulled on to shut the door even though it's mainly intended for rotating to open the latch. - I already mentioned the black/gray tank sensors. Really? In 2020 they can't figure out how to make a reliable sensor? Fortunately the heater, water heater and refrigerator cooling worked well. In fact it got so warm in there I was always puzzled about why. Maybe the heat from the exhaust after a few hours drive? Or the cabin batteries getting warm? I did prepaid LP gas option. In hindsight I probably lost a few bucks since we certainly didn't use more than a gallon a day. But it wasn't that much extra and did save some valuable time on the way back to turn in the motorhome. We used the airport shuttle to get back to the airport after dropping off the motorhome at 5pm. From June 14 to August 6, I rented 53 nights this year! And this was my third times rented their's RV. Unfortunately, I got a terrible 30 foot RV. The slid out on driver side could not move out. Forced me had to drive back for fix this trouble for four times! If they can replace a new RV at the first time that only after 6 days drived. For the following 47days,that will be great!but it didn't happen. I had drive back again, again,and again, 4 times to fix the same problem! TAKE YOUR TIME CHECKING THE RV AT CHECK-IN, NO SECOND CHANCE FOR YOU! Make sure you check every corner inside and out of your RV before signing on the check-in paperwork. The orientation guy barely walked you around the RV or reminded you to check if anything was all right, but when you checked out, they would check on EVERYTHING in details for you. We were charged for a little damage on the left back of the RV which was not caused by us. We were in a hurry for the flight, so we paid and left. Then we found a photo of us later proving that the damage already existed when we rented the RV, with details of the time and location of the photo taken. This was our first RV rental and the agent that checked us in did not know anything about the RV and just had us do a quick walk around for any dents/cracks we needed to make note of before leaving. However, they did not ask us to check that all the other functions of the RV were working properly. We realized the first night and hours away from the office that the extenders were not working properly and had to stop by the office midway through our trip to have them look at it. Once they "fixed" the problem we still had major issues with it until the end of the our trip. We made our own work arounds but this was an inconveince and a safety issue. read more

great place if you want to get an RV with a full black water tank (sewage). they tried to blame us for RV damages even though they initialed those damages when we picked it up. luckily I had dated photos. they lied about our pickup and drop off times in order to get extra fees. they put smaller tires on the RV without resetting the computers which makes the mileage go higher than you actually run. you can see this on speed radar. horrible place. read more

Really awful and so much fine print that works against you. Nasty desk staff that made the comment 'well Alaska is a big state.' I was born here--they import. disclaim everything and up charge everything without notice. We rented for visitors and when we talked about the subpar aspects of the vehicle, they got hostile in a calm situation and 86ed us on the sly. Only knew when we called about the partial refund and the person asked us if we knew--we did not. We finally got a response in the refund. This is not how Alaskans treat guests. Rent from another place! Bob is super creepy and minimizes things from reviewers. Let people talk. Just because you don't see a short bald man doesn't mean they didn't rent from you. PLEASE do not tell people what's important and you fixed problems they identified. You already ruined the vacation and written it for future marketing. Be proactive and spend your time fixing problems not shining up actual reviews for future sales. The staff there is energetic, sharp, and very friendly. The RV was clean and ready to go even earlier than we expected. The RV itself was of very good quality and is suitable for the environment in Alaska. I have used Great Alaskan Holidays, Inc several times previously and have always gotten consistent service and what I believe is a very good value. I really like that I can get a current year RV and I also have a choice of a previous year RV for a little less money. This year, the RV came with a small solar array and charger. This was our second time renting from this location. The first time the RV ran great and all of the buttons worked. The secound time Problems with sensors not working for the black and gray water. The gray water leaked at the hose and splashed dirty water on me. I never knew when to dump the wast and that cost me more money because its not free to dump. There was a water leak under the couch and the title was coming off of the floor. This was scary because of mold. The wipers needed to be replaced and it was hard to see when it rained. The TV sound was hard to hear because the surround sound system did not work. Forget about watching tv with the generator running. Radio was impossible to use. To many buttons and options but I got it to work. And no pan in the kitchen. For $2500 I would think they could provide an rv that functioned as advertised. At this point I feel like I was ripped off. UPDATE: 09/04/2018 When I dropped off the RV I was given a reimbursement form to fill out and I emailed it back to them and they never responded. So I emailed it again last week and still no response. At this point I dont care about the money but they should respond to my email because thats good customer service. read more

We were second time renters and while our initial experience 5 years ago was good, our second experience was less than acceptable. We had a number of issues... Coach battery not functioning properly, windshield wipers in bad shape, lack of cleanliness, sensors for black water not accurate. The battery issue was not obvious and we had to suffer through the fact that the battery was weak. It wasn't until it fully died and the propane tester alterted us at 5am that we understood the battery was bad. Initially, we just figured we just used too many lights or heat and so we were unable to run the heat during the night when it was cold. It was basically a troubleshooting and research effort for us which resulted in a few very cold nights in the RV in Denali National Park. The bad windshield wiper issue is simply not acceptable and is putting the customer at risk The lack of cleanliness in the unit is simply disappointing and quite frankly disgusting and not appropriate. There was trash in between seat cushions. There are a lot of other companies to rent from in Anchorage and we will definitely use another one when we return to Alaska. read more

This was a great experience, start to finish. I was impressed with the customer service, from having all my questions answered on the phone and in-person, as well as an easy check-in and check-out. The company offers a free shuttle from the airport during business hours, and (since we arrived after), we were able to access our rental and spend the night in it. Additionally, the price was hands-down the best we had found compared to other companies. Overall, we will use this company again. Bonus! Anchorage Brewing Company is 1 mile away. I recently rented from Great Alaskan Holidays and although we loved the trip, the quality of the new Forester RV we rented was poor.  Unfortunately, that led to us getting charged for damage that would not have occurred with a vehicle of higher quality. During our weeklong trip, numerous items came loose, didn't work well, didn't connect without extra effort, or were otherwise indicative of corners cut and shoddy craftmanship. This isn't necessarily Great Alaskan's issue (that's to come) but it did have consequences for us. When my daughter shut the side window above the couch with regular force (the rest of my family of 6 were all watching her and can attest to that), the window completely shattered.  Great Alaskan charged us $591 for the window. Luckily, we had purchased the extra insurance coverage so we only had to pay a $300 deductible. Had this been my fault, I would have been totally ok with it (I'll own up to my mistakes) but I shouldn't have to subsidize Great Alaskan for choosing cheaply made RVs. My issue with Great Alaskan is that (i) they were completely unwilling to work with me on it and charged me the full amount regardless and (ii) the customer service related to this was horrendous.  The two managers I spoke with turned combative nearly immediately and made little effort to hear me out.  When we picked up the RV, I heard them literally yelling at a customer and threatening to call the police if they didn't leave.  I thought that was a one-off, but it's obviously not.  We didn't come to yelling but they clearly don't provide the level of service you would expect from a professional organization these days. Did the window break while I had the RV? Yes. But most other companies would be willing to accept product deficiencies and not charge you for that. So, if you do rent from Great Alaskan, beware.  Understand that if anything happens to the RV, even if the result of shoddy construction, you will be charged for it.  Treat everything in it with kid gloves, even if you already think you are. Alaska is a beautiful state with wonderful people and I plan on going back there again and often. But I will never rent from Great Alaskan again. read more

This is the WORST rental company EVER. They canceled RV reservation days before the trip. They play blame games on their vendor and everything else, instead of examining why they put hundreds and thousands of customers in such poor situations. They can forfeit your rental deposit, but never provide any compensation for their faults. I criticize them not only because of their cancellation, but also the way they deal with this issue. Read the fine print! If you cancel more than 60 days out, they take $225 of your $500 deposit! To add insult to injury, they then deduct the 8% mandatory state tax out of your remaining money instead of their windfall. How much effort can it be to cancel a reservation more than 60 days out? You call up the file, click the cancel button, send an email and you are $275 dollars richer. What a rip off. read more

Just finished renting 3 motorhomes from Great Alaskan Holidays for 10 days. Excellent experience. All the motorhomes were pretty much brand new . Excellent kitchen equipment, clean plastic wrapped sheets and towels. My motorhome slide out would not retract when I was in Seward which is about 150 miles from Anchorage. The technician tried to resolve the problem over the phone but no result. They sent the lead mechanic from Anchorage to Seward to get the problem fixed immediately so as not to disrupt my travel plans. Very impressed! Everyone I encountered, the shuttle drivers , check in and checkout staff, mechanics were very friendly and more than willing to help. Deserves five star rating. read more

I would definitely rent from them again. Even though we had rented a 2021 model, we had to take a 2020 model due to the COVID-19 they couldn't get the new RV's in because the boarders were closed .So that was not their fault. We were not disappointed in the 2020 model. It was like nearly new, very clean everything worked well. Had everything you needed, except I wished they would have had a cookie sheet or baking pan to cook rolls in the oven. I used Aluminum Foil which worked fine, that was nothing to get upset about : ). We had it rented for 22 days, and everything went great. They have free shuttle to and from the airport. The customer service is amazing. Easy check in and out. So yes I would DEFINITELY rent from them again. read more

It has been an awful experience renting a rv from this company. They charged us for "damage" that could barely be seen, even though we could prove that the damage is there by the time of check in. The orientation guy did a very rough exam of the car and didn't notice some of the cracks on the door until we mentioned. However, when we returned the vehicle, they told us that there is "damage" at the back of the car. The "damage" is so minor that we could barely see when she pointed out. We found pictures of the RV by the time of check in and found exactly same damage in the picture, yet they refuse to admit the damage is originally there. We got charged of 250 dollars since we have the collision wavier. I highly suspect that the exact same "damage" will be charged on multiple customers and they never fix it. So MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR VEHICLE FROM ALL ANGLES before you take it! Among all the rental companies I rented cars from, this is the first one that use fraud to earn extra money. read more

We rented from the GAH and mostly enjoyed our week in an RV. There were several issues with the RV, however. The tanks kept registering incorrectly, so we weren't sure what levels they were. We also felt that full disclosure about charges were a bit unclear when we went to pick up the vehicle--the linen, plates, cups, etc. with which the RV was stocked were more than we needed, so we were charged for the extras, even though we didn't need them. Also, we were charged for changing our pick-up time, which seemed wholly unnecessary, as no one else was there when we arrived. This was the slow season. Just make sure you know what you are paying for and be VERY CLEAR about how many people will be in your party (no changes allowed, apparently, if you want to avoid charges), and how many sets of the necessities are in the vehicle BEFORE you leave the parking lot. read more

They choose who they want to value as customers. Management moral ethics are nonexistent, especially for people of color. For someone who lives in Alaska, I am not sure why they are still in business. I was denied business due to an employee misleading his manager about how he was treated. How about us customers? Do we not have the right to explain our story? Does the employee always tell the truth when writing internal notes? If we feel like we're being lied to and not getting the help we need, are we not allowed to be frustrated and upset? I will voice my opinion on your company because of what I just went through. If you guys record your calls then I beg you to start listening to it. I'm pretty sure I am not the only one who got treated like I did. As far as the management goes, you probably need to reevaluate and hire someone else! Is my business not welcome as a person of color compared to someone that is not? Well, the RV itself was fine and I thought a pretty good value, especially considering that the rental market in Anchorage recently blew up and there were no rental cars available at the time we rented the RV. We rented a 31 footer and it was nice. Drove easily. Seemed well maintained. But we had a fairly big problem that the company didn't take very seriously and that was disappointing to me. I am an obligate CPAP user with severe obstructive sleep apnea. I could die if I go without CPAP for a night. Well, I rented an inverted as Great Alaskan recommended to power my CPAP when we weren't plugged into shore power. I tested it with my actual CPAP machine while still in the parking lot of the rental place and it worked fine. However, the first time I needed the inverter was at midnight in a remote location with no shore power available and just under a half-tank of gas and the inverted immediately failed. It beeped for a while and then just died. I'm not blaming Great Alaskan for this failure. Stuff breaks and of course the timing couldn't be worse with my medical condition. Unfortunately, the remote location in a BLM campground and midnight timing and the low-ish gas meant I was out of luck that night. No cell service to call anyone and really nothing to do but take a chance and sleep without CPAP. Again, for me, this is life threatening. The inverter failure also altered our plans. We had planned to do a fair amount of boondocking but now we had to modify our path to include only campgrounds where we could plug in. That cost extra money and, more importantly, changed the nature of our vacation. It didn't spoil it but it changed it. Anyway, upon returning the RV, I was hoping the Great Alaskan would take my situation seriously and quickly realize what a predicament that this caused, even to the point of being life threatening. But they laughed it off and initially credited me a whopping $7 for one night's failed inverter!! I kid you not. One night's credit! $7! For a failed inverter that could have resulted in my death and did definitely alter our plans and end up costing us extra money in RV park fees because of the need for plugging into shore power everyplace we went. I was shocked and flabbergasted by their initial response of one night's credit for 8 days of inverter rental! When I complained and again stressed the seriousness of this situation, they blamed me for not calling and telling them about it. I was out of cell range for the vast majority of my trip and they blamed me for not calling to tell them about the inverter failure, as if that would have done any good out in the boondocks off of the Richardson Highway. Their final offer was to remove the non-working inverter from my bill completely, something like a $40 credit on a $2500 rental bill. Obviously, this was better than $7 but did nothing to compensate me for my altered vacation plans and the costs of having to always plug in wherever we went. To point a fine point on this issue, it was less about the money and more about the attitude. They didn't take the issue seriously and insulted me by trying to slip a $7 credit through, hoping that I wouldn't notice the pittance of credit that they were giving. Then when I noticed it and simply asked for the bare minimum of taking the entire non-working inverter off of my bill, they pulled the blame game and tried to make it sound like I had done something wrong for not making a special trip into cell phone coverage zone to tell them about the failed inverter. So, it was attitude and a real failure to recognize the seriousness of the situation that left me with a very bad taste in my mouth about this company. If they would do this over a $7 per day inverter, what would they do if something bigger and more expensive broke? It seemed to me that they would try to pin the blame on the renter and somehow twist it around to be able to keep the security deposit, or worse. Again, my vacation was not spoiled but I was left with a very sour taste in my mouth upon having these interactions when I returned the RV. read more

We purchased an RV from Great Alaska last March. RV was in first-class condition and the salesperson friendly. However, there were two huge flaws. Firstly, the upgrades we had. I had a TV screen that was added to one of the bunks that turned out to not work. I took it back and they claimed to fix it, but still didn't work. Then I took it back again and it was declared broken, so they took the broken piece out and two weeks later it was fixed. Three trips I made from Eagle River to south Anchorage to get it corrected and I managed to get a free winterization for their trouble. Secondly, I have an extra $45 a month tacked on to my monthly payment for the first 8 months because I didn't have insurance on it from the time it was purchased in early March to early May when we picked it up. At no point we're we told by the salesperson we had to have insurance or the day we purchased it and our creditor tacked it on. Other than some this, everything else from Great Alaska was great. read more
