Ease of communication and pickup and great customer service. New, Clean and reliable car. I did not book a car ahead cos was not planning to drive and depend on railroad and hotel shuttles. Me and my family had an extra day to spare in anchorage and found couple of extra spots to explore so contacted them just a day before when I needed the rental but they were very prompt with the response and even accommodating in me requesting a 10:45 pm pickup. From my trip that day I got late and reached close to midnight but they still had the car ready for me and got me quickly ready. Well the airport was sold out of car so I had to come here to get a car. I have to say that coming was more difficult and dropping off. When I originally got there nobody was there and I had to wait then I had to wait again as he had to take two different people to the airport. The car was dirty so I had to wait for it to be washed but when it was all said and John was very happy to have an upgraded car. The lady who runs the place is super nice. When I first pulled up it looked a bit sketchy to me, but it is just a family owned business and so it is not like a corporation kind of store. Drop off was much easier I did have to wait 10 minutes but no big deal. Was able to get a free ride back. Everyone was kind and helpful and the prices were definitely better. This company saved us! We had a rental set up by another major company and our car was given out before we left our state!!! We called them at last minute and hooked us up with a vehicle that was cheaper, AND BETTER! They have awesome rates, and will NOT let his cars go without making sure they are spotless! Kind and professional service with good staff. I couldn't find any cars in Alaska when I was trying to rent a car which fits in my family member. Fortunately, I was able to rent a car from Alaska express rental car. More fortunately, I could upgrade to a bigger car when I arrived in anchorage. The staff did their best to help us get a best car for travel. One thing I was worried about was that the rental car company was 10 mins away from airport. However, the company brings us back to airport after dropping the car off. When I usually rent a car from big company, the process of picking up a car was so long. Went to the web sight and saw their price list. We called to set up the reservation and the price was triple what was on their site. Was also told the price could go higher depending on the demand. We rented a mid sized SUV from here for a week long road trip through Alaska. Booking the reservation required a little back and forth, but that may be sort of an Alaska thing since most things we booked for our trip required a phone call or two. However, they definitely had the best rates of any vendor we looked at, even when compared against discounts via credit card companies, etc. When we arrived to pick up our vehicle, we waited for a bit since the man working the place ran to drop another customer at the airport. We weren't in a rush, so we were fine with that. When he arrived, check out was quick, and we were on our way. Vehicle worked out great and when we went to drop it off, they even dropped us off at the airport. Overall, a great experience, friendly staff, and unbeatable prices. read more

Not located at airport but a quick cab ride (around $10) away. We booked really early (like 4 months out) and got a fantastic rate...so fantastic that I was afraid they would cancel just to get more money from someone else. The honored their commitment and we got a perfect car at a fabulous price!! The car was a 2017 Dodge Caravan and we were so thankful that it had navigation. We were thinking we could use online maps but there are many places that have no service. The car was clean and pick up/drop off was easy. When I go back to Anchorage, I will most definitely use Alaska Express Car Rental again...give them a try!! read more

This is the place to rent a car if you plan to visit Anchorage. Even though the rental place is not inside the airport, it only cost $10 by taxi to get to this rental location. The amount of money you save from renting from them is so much more than the $10 you spent on the taxi ride. The guy that helped us is so knowledgeable about Anchorage, he took his time to recommend all the places you should visit while in town. Also, they will give you a ride back to the airport after you drop off the vehicle. I would definitely rent from them again. read more

I first rented from Alaska Express Car Rental in 2013 for a week before I went to Kodiak Island and then for a week afterward. Due to their excellent service, I rented from them again in September, 2019. Again, I rented for a week before and a week after visiting Kodiak. The staff are superb! Very accommodating, friendly and professional. The vehicles are excellent too. The rates are the best and I searched on both visits to AK. Since they are small and local, you get the BEST treatment! I arrived at 1am at the location. They are running two businesses out of one location (head to the paid parking lot booth/office) that's where they handle the rentals as well. That part was not explained to me. When I arrived at 1am no one was answering the phone I had called to make the reservation originally (I panicked for sure!!) and was about to tell my Uber driver to drop me off to the apt rental when a gentleman arrived and we sorted it all out! Went on a last minute trip to Alaska back in August 2019 and because the airports did not have any more online car reservations we decided to rent from a private company. Alaska Express Car Rental had availability so we reserved one. When we showed up, the man who helped us was extremely friendly, got us set up with a car and we were on our way. The car was ok, nothing obviously wrong with it and we stopped in Anchorage for dinner. That afternoon when we headed out on the highway, the air conditioning oddy shut off. Thinking it was a mistake, I fiddled with all the controls, read the user manual and looked it up on the internet. There was no obvious reason it should have shut off and when we got off the freeway, it turned back on. It was obvious it was a glitch when the car was running over a certain MPH. We tried going on the freeway once again with the exact same thing happening. Finally, we called the agency back, explained the situation and asked if they had any more cars. The man said, no they did not but assured us if we were to rent from another company he would give us a full refund, as the defect was in the car he had rented us. We were able to procure another car from a different company and my husband and I drove the separate cars back to Alaska Express. This is where things went from annoying to downright intimidating. The man who we had rented from and talked to on the phone immediately informed us to get back in the car for a "test ride". We explained, no we had already spent 2 hours messing around with the bad car and renting a new one, we just wanted to get on with our vacation. He then got in the car himself and took off leaving us standing there, wondering what was going to happen. When he returned he informed us NOTHING was wrong with the car (even though we explained the freeway speed connection to the defect) and that we would be paying for the cancelation fee. This fee was a substantial amount, especially given we had already wasted hours of our first day dealing with the defective car. We tried to nicely explain we wouldn't be paying the fee, since the car had the defect AND he had verbally given us his word we would be getting a full refund. He then began to yell at us, posturing angrily and saying he would get lawyers involved. At this point, rather than get into any kind of altercation we simply informed him we would be contacting our credit card for fraud. We got on the road in our new car and sure enough in a few days we saw the charge show up on our card. Thankfully the credit card company did take care of everything, but this was an extremely stressful way to start our vacation. Please avoid at all costs! These people are extremely dishonest and downright rude when confronted on it. read more

We went to Alaska in 2018 for vacation. We rented the car in the Alaska Express Car Rental. This car Rental center is outside Anchorage airport but very close to it. After we took a taxi from the airport to their place, the car was ready. the owner was very friendly and he showed our car and explain all rules and answered all our questions. After we come back and returned the car, he drove us to the airport. He even helped us to find our lost phone in the car! Great price and great car experience and awesome service, I would definitely rent from them again. read more

I called some national chain car rental companies to get quotes for my upcoming trip to Anchorage and was shocked by the prices. Apparently if you rent a car at the airport there is a tax (or fee?) charged that makes the rental quite high. So then I got the numbers of some local Anchorage car rental businesses and called them directly. One of the local business gave me a good quote but they closed at 11 pm and we were flying in at 12:30 pm. Then I contacted Alaska Express Car Rental and spoke with Ersin. Not only are they open 24 hours, but they price matched my other quote and then beat it by a few dollars (after he made sure that their price included taxes and any other fees). Yes, I did have to take a taxi from the airport to their place, but Ersin said it would only cost me $8 and it did. Not a bad price to pay for saving nearly $500 in car rental costs!! Ersin's brother was at the counter when we arrived and we found him to be very friendly and helpful. He didn't have an economy size car for us (which we requested) but had a Chevy Impala at no extra charge.He was patient and thorough on going over the contract with us, making sure the price I was quoted matched the price they were charging us, verifying exactly from what date/time to what date/time the quote was good for, and then giving us the "per day" charge should we decide to keep the car longer. He also gave excellent advice on sightseeing destinations: which ones should be on our "must see" list and which ones we could skirt by. We found his advice to be spot-on, and afterwards found out he's been in Anchorage for over 17 years which would explain his expert take on the area. We stopped into their office mid-rental to tell them we would be taking the car an extra day, and would check it back in right before heading to the airport for our flight home. He suggested that when we turn the car in, we should keep all our luggage in the car, and after all the paperwork was done they would drive us to the airport. Talk about customer service!! We finally met Ersin when returning the car, and found him to be just as pleasant as his brother. The paperwork took minutes to complete, no hidden charges, no other fees. Ersin and his brother are both very hard working men trying to make an honest living in Anchorage. Should I ever venture back to Alaska, I wouldn't hesitate to call Alaska Express Car Rental for another car. Note: The car was higher mileage (right around 100,000 miles), but looked nice and drove well, and we had no problems with it. It was in very good condition and gave us a week (plus one day) of comfortable driving. read more

Great experience renting a car here to take up to Denali and then down to Kenai before back to Anchorage again. Cheapest rates I could find in Anchorage and a very short ride from the airport. Clean newer model mid size that gave us over 500 miles per tank of gas. Really nice guys running the place and a free ride back to the airport. What more can you ask for? I wanted to save some money and hence went in for this rental eventhough I knew the cars that these guys rent are used and have many miles. Initially the reservation was done over phone and the guy sent me two quotes on different dates with different prices. I insisted that he honor the lower of both prices for which he agreed grudgingly. When I returned the car he insisted that I make an additional payment of $80 because the car was not returned before 1 AM in the morning (I rented the car on June 30th at 1 AM) and hence the policy was to return the car on July 8th at 1 AM. It was my fault that I did not see the rental document which said the return time was 1 AM but the problem was that he would not pro rate the additional charges for one day at the rate at which the rental was made but at a much higher rate of $80. We drove a used car with 60,000 miles and had to be picked up and dropped back from the airport. Net net, you go through a lot of hassle, drive an old car and dont save a penny by renting from this guy. The last I checked before I left for Anchorage on Hotwire, I could have made the same rental from a reputed rental company for less. read more

We reside in Washington D.C and had to travel to Anchorage, Alaska to plan and attend a funeral for a loved-one. We purchased our flight tickets two days before the funeral service and didn't have time to look for car rentals online. We were picked up at the airport by family members the day of our arrival, but decided to rent a car for the next couple of days. We checked various online websites, Hotwire, kayak, etc and didn't find great rates. We realized that it was peak season and prices were not the best. We decided to hop on a cab and rent a car from the airport. Enroute to the airport, we asked the taxi driver if he heard of any decent car rentals in the area that have availability and are reasonably priced. He immediately referred us to this company. He realized that we were planning a funeral and was so kind as to call the company and inquire about rates. He gave us the rate over the phone and it was at least $100 cheaper than other deals in the area. He dropped us off and we met with one of the owners, Erkan (not sure of spelling). He was so kind and patient and explained the entire process and fees. There were no hidden fees. We picked the car and were on our way. He also explained to us that this is the time when most business can make some sort of money and that the prices vary on season. He made us think of the economics of Alaskan businesses and that the prices do vary considerably off-peak and that when we revisit,we will get much better rates. The car was comfortable and reliable, the price was reasonable and the service was exceptional! An added bonus is there is free airport drop-off, using the same car you drove, so as not to unload and load luggage. Very convenient and no doubt we will tell our family and friends and return to this wonderful family-owned business. read more
