From the moment I arrived, the warm and inviting ambiance made me feel completely at home. The resort offers an impressive array of amenities - selection of restaurants, helpful concierge, fitness center, indoor pool and hot tub, a luxurious spa for ultimate relaxation, and endless outdoor activities like skiing (and a gondola and chairlift are right outside the back entrance!), hiking, and scenic tram rides to showcase Alaska's natural beauty. The highlight of my stay in addition to the skiing and spa, was the Club Lounge on the 8th floor for guests staying on that level. It's such a treat - delicious food and drinks served twice a day, plus snacks available all day and evening. It truly elevated the experience plus I met such nice and interesting people! I would love to return to this gem of a resort!

So far, it's a disaster: In room thermostat control does…read morenot go beyond 71. Tried to call front desk, calls get disconnected after minutes of ringing. Tried to call again in hotel phone, 45 minutes without answer. Called maint to the room, took over 10 minutes, maint guy showed up, and said "Something IS wrong"...not a good sign. We are told to call the front desk to change room temperatures...except no one answers the call! What a brilliant concept! ===========*=* Mick came down, told the front desk and us that it is now working, we went up to the room, it is again not working. Mick looked at the room thermostat panel and said "you can just press here (up/down arrow for temperature control) ... not sure why it's not working" So the 'secret method' the front desk mentioned is...press the buttons on the wall thermostat? ------------------ Another 20 minutes, and they can't find a room where the in-room thermostat control is working? I never knew this is the Taj Mahal where it will take days to go through the rooms ? ------------- For a place that is understaffed, they sure got securities available to intimidate customers ---------- Another update: director of rooms stopped by, because the person at the front desk Ozzie (?) does not have authority to do anything. Of course, she isn't happy with the fact that she has to come in her time off to handle a situation that took more than 2 hours that Ozzie can't handle. She said Ozzie said he gave us several options of different rooms, while in reality, Ozzie had only sent us back to the same room with the defective heating (507). Hard to deal with someone in the 'hospitality business that lies. Ozzie mentioned during this of an upgrade, but never actually offered an upgrade to us. Quite a pity they have to rely on the word of a dishonest employee over that of a customer and actions of their own maintenance crew. --------- This place is sad when they can't staff the hotel properly, yet have plenty of security around to keep an eye on us. Perhaps go check on the room for Ozzie would've been the better use of their time

In its second season, it's getting busier and busier all the time. My dad bought a season pass and is definitely working towards getting his money's worth and I'm not far behind. If you're familiar with the different resorts around the area, I'd say that as it sits right now, Skeetawk is a mix between Hilltop and Arctic Valley... or Alpenglow if you're not as old school as I am. Anywho... At only 300 vertical feet and I believe 30 chairs on the lift, its a fun ride! It also beats hitchhiking back up the mountain road. As of right now, the offer porta-potties, which is a bit uncomfortable to say the least. A two story yurt houses the newly opened ski rental, which unfortunately, at this time does not offer snowboards. They're working on getting more gear, instructors and tuning... all of which, especially the latter two are quite important and sparse. As for the people... for the most part, pretty cool folks working up there... cashiers, lift attendants and patrol! I'm not going to throw anyone down the hill and bash them, but some could be a bit friendlier... well, one in particular in leadership. It seemed that if you weren't in her age group, not in her circle or something... I can't quite put my finger on why, but it came across that she just didn't care about you, your ability or what you had to offer, even to the conversation at hand. In making suggestions to reach out for a couple different things, I felt a bit of a cold shoulder, which is indeed a turn off when you're local and wanting to get to know people with similar interests and promote a new hill.... even if the only similarity is winter downhill recreation. It is what it is... and I don't see myself joining in on the conversation again. They have a long way to go... and need a lot of money to get there, but for now, it's worth it to go. It's a quick trip from my house, doesn't break the bank and is even nostalgic for those of us that rode backcountry up there and stayed at the Motherload back in the day.

If you are reading this, you are likely already deciding to heli, just a matter of where. Cost…read moreprobably isn't really an issue - hello it's heli. If you talk about this with your friends, some of them will tell you that you are insane for dropping a few $K to "ski" when you could "easily go to Deer Valley for a week" with that kind of money. "go. have fun there. We'll really miss you." Or you could fulfill a dream that most people well . . . dream of. Most of the pitches were 45-50 degree slopes which made for great fast cruising. Surely by the end of the day, your legs are cooked. We got about 18-23k vertical each day. Yes we could ski steeper, but we'd probably get tired faster. While I'm sure everyone is thinking "yeah I've done steeper" (we all have), we're not there to do that all day. We were out to ski damn nice terrain with damn nice snow and have a damn good time doing it. for several days. Another myth debunked was that I wanted steep AND powder. Well folks - that usually means avalanches. Also, unless the skies are totally clear, you're not flying. So just set your expectations accordingly. On our down days we would point "but it's clear over there!" (that was said a lot, and after a while it just sounds annoying). The staff (guides / lodge staff) are all top notch. The food is definitely gourmet and you won't be disappointed in quality or quantity. The guide's are great fun, and obviously very good at what they do. Safety is their primary concern, and while they seem calm/collected/having a good time, you can tell their game is on point behind all of the smiles and jokes. On our trip there was one instance of a rather large skier triggered avalanche, and the whole guide crew snapped into action, and executed all of the proper steps (if you'd even call it that), in such a manner that it was almost as if that was expected. Honestly, after seeing that coordinated effort, my willingness to write this review became 10 fold, as they hire the best, to ensure their guests are in extremely good hands. You don't want to go out in the mountains and be under the supervision of clowns - when literally your life is in their hands. It's not a party or something to be taken lightly. Giving three stars because the price is just too steep (pun intended?). $50 and most of the trails are closed - so it's basically $50 to get to a photo spot and a cafeteria. They should consider lowering the price when there's limited "to dos" up top.
