This was a great way to kickstart my adventure in Alaska! Lots of first just in the tour for sure. I got the dog sledding tour, which was so awesome! After gearing up, you get ready to ride on a helicopter to punch bowl glacier. The ride was so cool (one of my firsts)! If you've never been in a helicopter, it's an amazing way to sightsee since the viewing angle is way less restrictive than any other aircraft. The maneuverability can make it similar to a thrill ride! Once up there, while waiting to get set up or waiting for others before me to go on their tour, the staff introduces you to their vast arrays of dogs that were born and bred to be sled dogs. Love it or hate it, the dogs seem happy and seem well taken care of. It was amazing to see the 7 puppies that were 8 weeks old and teething. It's hard to not smile when they start chewing on the boots provided by the company. Lastly the piece de resistance is the actual ride. It was very fun and enjoyable being able ride in the sleds with dogs pulling you. They can go pretty fast and the mushers go into the history of dog sledding. Overall, it was a fun experience and a great way for people to enjoy a unique adventure! read more

I highly recommend this experience. It is really an once-in-a-life time experience. It is surreal. It is magical. We made two landings: one is on the Colony Glacier (we walked around and drank a bit glacier water); one is on mountain overlook lake George Glacier (the view was breathtaking). We had the privilege of taking an alpine dog sledding adventure on June 16th and it was fantastic. Everything from start to finish was great. From the team that helped us get dressed, to providing the safety briefing, and the helicopter pilot who got us there and back (and a special thanks for the help with the shotgun passenger seatbelt that I simply could not figure out). The team at the camp was the highlight. They are very passionate about their job and it showed. We had a great time learning about the training regimen, how teams are put together and how the dogs are fed and cared for each day. Of course, nothing beats getting on the sled to take a twirl with the dogs. It was a blast! Absolutely recommend it if you find yourself in/around the Anchorage or Girdwood area. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you'll want to document and remember for the rest of your life - especially if you're from somewhere that doesn't get much snow. I'm actually glad we were able to do the helicopter tour during the spring-summer season, as the skies were so clear and gave for a perfect view and a smooth ride. Our pilot Tyler was very knowledge of the lands and made sure we got the chance to see any wildlife along the way, including goats, moose, and bears! I highly recommend spending the extra $100 to actually land and walk upon the glacial ice - not only will you be able to get more unique photo-ops, but you'll get the chance to say you've drank water literally straight from the glaciers! I just wish I had remembered to bring a flask, to take back some water with me and get it blessed like in the movie Waterboy :) For another couple hundred bucks, you can even top it off and try dog-sledding in the area. This company is definitely the one to book with, if you want a one-stop shot at experiencing all your Alaskan vacation dreams. Booking online was quick and easy - although we were very lucky to reserve a tour for two just the day before, you should probably inquire a few more days in advance as there is limited space and times, especially for larger groups. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, and took the time to take care of us even after our tour had ended. Since there are virtually no taxis/ride shares in the area, they let us ride their shuttle back to the nearest resort, and then hooked us up with a driver to pick us up there to take us back to Anchorage (which is about 45 mins away). While in Alaska we are filling our time up with once in a lifetime activities. We booked a 30 minute helicopter tour over Alaska. We arrived at 8:45 for our scheduled 9:00 AM flight. We were greeted by Glenda who was great. She explained the tour to us. We were the only ones on this tour. Without any pressure at all, Glenda offered an upgrade to one hour which would land us on a Glacier. How could we not go for that. I didn't bring a hat or sunglasses so she comped me one of each. After a safety instruction we are off. Martin is our pilot and he was awesome. Narrating our flight for the entire time. The time goes really quickly. We landed on a glacier and walked around for about 10 minutes. It was so quiet, no wind, and surrounded by snow covered mountains. At this point we could not help but extend our flight for another 30 minutes. The additional 30 minutes brought our flight over Prince William Sound and views of more glaciers and untouched areas of planet earth. During this phase of our flight Martin pointed out the "Aleska" mountain top resort and restaurant. We immediately knew this would be our next stop after our tour was over. The hour and a half flight was so exciting that the time flew by. No pun intended. Oh yes, we even got to see a bunch of moose during our flight. Amazing!!! So do I recommend this amazing, exciting, awesome experience? I not only do I recommend it, I encourage you to take this helicopter tour with Alpine Air. I promise, no guarantee that you will not regret it. Excuse me for a minute while I check this off my "Bucket List". The highest of praise for this place! My husband I would both agree that our experience here was the best out of all the different things we have done in Alaska. It was a bit hefty of a price tag to do the helicopter + dog sledding tour, but it was well worth the money. When we were arrived, we were suited up into warmer, waterproof clothing and then instructed on what to expect and what to do for the helicopter ride. A quick helicopter ride took us up to the glacier where we were met with lots and lots of snow, some tour guides, and lots of dogs. We were able to take some photos and look around while the tour guides hitched the dogs onto the sled. Once they were ready for us, we got on the sled and headed on out. It was so incredible and exhilarating just standing/sitting on the sled while the dogs ran, completely in their element. We stopped on occasion to admire the view and learn a little bit about each dog and his or her personality. We got to pet some of the dogs too, but our team's dogs quickly started barking, eager to get running again. When we finished riding the sled and returned back to base camp, we met the puppies and drank hot chocolate while waiting for the others to finish. Overall, best experience ever! read more

Yes!!! The highlight of my honeymoon FOR SURE. It is definitely super expensive, but you have to learn to splurge and enjoy life once in awhile! The staff was super friendly and my wife and I felt very safe throughout the whole experience! The staff helped us get into another layer of rainproof clothing (even if you think you're covered up, take that extra layer you'll need it). They then take you on a beautiful helicopter ride up to the glacier where you get to see the staff stationed up there with the lovely sled dogs. My trip was the last before the rain wind and hail got too strong so it was quite the experience. The dog sled sounded a little meh at first, but I cannot deny that I had SO much fun. After you go on the sled ride you get to drink hot chocolate and hold the husky puppies! 10/10 would ALWAYS recommend to anyone who is in the area!!! read more

Definitely one of the highlights of my Alaska trip! My best friend and I planned an epic vacation to Alaska to celebrate the end of graduate school. We were fortunate enough to be able to experience Alpine Air Alaska's Glacier Dog Sledding tour on Punch Bowl Glacier. From the time we entered Alpine Air to the glacier to the very end, we were treated with some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. The entire trip was unreal! The helicopter ride was a highlight, of course, but I absolutely loved learning the background of sled dogs and the Ididarod, and playing with the puppies. Peter was the guide up on the glacier and he was fantastic; such a dynamic speaker who truly kept me engaged the entire time. Another highlight was going on the sled dog ride! So we visited Alaska at the beginning of the break up season so a lot of places were closed, not offering tours, had limited staffing, etc. We were somewhat surprised when we called the Aleyska Lodge/Hotel and they said that there were still helicopter tours. So we drove about 4 hours back from near Fairbanks and headed to Alpine Air. They picked us up from the Lodge and drove us to the office to go over the safety instructions and waiver signing. I really didn't know what to expect since I'd never been in a helicopter before. We opted to do the glacier landing which costs a little bit more. We had excellent weather as the sun was bright. I suggest that you bring sunglasses even if you don't do the glacier landing as the sun reflecting off the snow can be intense. The original helitour for about 30 mins was $270 I believe. The glacier landing added around another $100-$150. Now you're probably saying "Holy crap that's a spicy meatball to swallow!" Remember though that this may be a once in a lifetime experience so why not? For us, since everything else was closed (even the Denali bus tours), we decided to pay and see what adventures unfolded. There are weight restrictions so be aware of this before you book, or call the office to confirm that you will be able to fly. Our pilot was Martin from Austria and the three of us hopped into the chopper. Then we lifted off and headed for the hills. It's cool to be able to talk to each other through the headsets and listen to the ooooohs and ahhhhhs. My friend couldn't stop saying "it's sooooo blue". Although I don't like actually flying in airplanes, flying in a helicopter was such a calming experience. It may be that the environment we were flying over was so beautiful and so untouched or maybe it was because I was with my friends. Martin was very informative about where we were flying over and history and pointing out spectacles like mountain goats or heli-skiers. He also seems to have an affinity for James Bond and helicopter chases as we whizzed through the valleys and over the glaciers. Now the glacier landing is something special. That probably explains why a lot of people do it to propose to their significant others. It's so remote and so beautiful the way the blues and whites and black mix in unison. We got to drink pure glacier water. So cold, so clean. We did a little hiking over the glaciers to get some pics. Martin assisted with pics and even let us capture him in a few of the pics. I think he has experience in photography because the shots he took were amazing. I mean you really get the quality service. He didn't seem annoyed at all the chatter on the microphones between us and seemed to understand how awesome this is for his passengers. It didn't feel rushed at all and having a whole hour to fly and land and hike and chat seemed like the time lasted forever. I had about 1500 photos just from this one experience and I'd say 90% of the pics are superb. Thanks for an excellent trip Alpine Air. Quick notes: If you're doing any sort of glacier/ice landing, wear appropriate shoes as you'll be walking on ice. Don't forget to bring your camera and don't leave anything on the helicopter or it goes into lost and found. No really worth it. Of course being pulled by dogs on a sled is fun. But there are other outfitters that offer it cheaper. The reason for choosing this one was to combine a helicopter ride. I dont know where I read the ride was 30 minutes (15 and 15). But my video from belt click to belt click was less than 4 minutes each way. And the sled time was 2 laps around a field. Wish there was a better trail. Basically paid 575 to stand around (while other people had a turn) and pet dogs. Time and money couldnt have been better spent at a dog shelter. If it was half the price I could see justifying the cost. Just really isnt with it. Would not do again. Will not reccomend others. read more

We understand that a helicopter cannot fly in bad weather, but they did not call or attempt to contact us in advance to let us know it would be cancelled or even that this would be a possibility. Booked a tour with Ididaride to go dog sledding on Punchbowl Glacier with the Seavey dogs. Alpine Air takes you there on a helicopter. They provide shoe covers, mittens, and outer wear tops and bottoms. Helicopter ride was short and smooth. 8 minutes each way. Despite rain, the Ididaride adventure was awesome. Good experience dog sledding in August. And who doesn't love playing with a bunch of rambunctious 5 week old puppies! read more

The booked the glacier landing tour and it was a once in a lifetime experience! We were blown away at how amazing it all was and are so happy that we choose to do this on our trip! The trip is a little pricey, although well worth it. The helicopter trip to the glacier and back had amazing views and we even got to see a dall sheep on the hillside. The whole trip there and back was approximately an hour long. You will get about 10 minutes to walk around on the glacier. It was a breathtaking and amazing experience to walk on a glacier. Our pilot, Martin, was very experienced and extremely knowledgeable about glaciers. I would recommend dressing in layers, wearing shoes with tread since it is very slippery on the glacier, going to the bathroom in the port a potties at the facility before the flight since you will not be able to for an hour, bringing your camera, and wearing colored clothing for pictures since if you wear white you may blend in with the background. We highly recommend this trip and are so glad that we did it ourselves!!! read more
