Got an order to go, and have to say, sad I did not eat in! First of all, ordering was easy and the text alerts were on point. Simple yet important part of take-out ordering. The food... we ordered Smoked Tuna Dip, Brussels, Miami Roll and Crab Cakes. The crab cakes and miami roll were really good. Fresh, flavorful, perfectly cooked. The Tuna Dip and Brussels however, OUT OF THIS WORLD! I have traveled many places, and had everything from the hole in the wall diner to Michelin starred chefs, and these were some of the best dishes I recall. Had dinner Saturday night with a friend. Got there early and seating was available. Sat near the open kitchen which is always good for me. For the appetizer ordered the brussels sprouts which were excellent and a couple of glasses of wine. For dinner I had the group or bronzed with the steamed vegetables and a grit cake. So I haven't been to here in years. We decided to give it a try for date night. We called about 5pm for a reservation that night, they were able to to fit us in for a patio reservation. Our server was prompt and knowledgeable. We started with the fried oysters. OMG! They were delicious!! They were served with a side of house hot sauce that was just sweet enough. I'm not usually a fan of fried but these were by far the best I've ever had. We also tried the seafood salad and added tuna! This salad was delicious and flavorful... the seaweed, tuna and crab combination with the cucumbers was a flavor explosion that was both tasteful and refreshing... For the main event we opted for the seafood platter with bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp, scallops and blackened fish, the basmati ginger rice was a hit! Is there an option for 10 stars? -my roommate. We showed up without a reservation at 6pm. They sat us at the kitchen bar. Cameron, our waitress, made sure we were taken care of every chance she got! This is now my most favorite restaurant in Bham! Been twice now. The first time was with a party of 10. The service for this crazy crowd was excellent. Now the food ! Calamari was perfection! Crispy crust with delicate inside! Dont pass up the Uptown Shrimp, it puts Bang Bang Shrimp to shame! And the Sushi .......my mouth is watering thinking about it! If you like spicy I highly recommend the TNT. I am somewhat a margarita snob, hard to satisfy. OMG the watermelon margarita was the best! Not too sweet not too tart and so refreshing! Not only has Chuck's consistency been flailing, the service is terrible, and the managers completely unrepentant about it. I used to go once a week, and I'll be taking my business elsewhere after giving them too many chances to keep fucking up. I brought my daughter to Chuck's for a mom / daughter dinner. When the hostess was ready to seat us it was right at the front door I asked her if it would be ok if we could sit in the back with a booth. She became extremely frustrated with me and said I'll check then she came back and said you have to be done by 6:20! We have a large party coming in!How dare her, we had a 5:15 reservation! By the way she kept seating people there lol and no part ever showed!!! Chucks fish is a hidden gem in the city of Birmingham I've frequented for years. Off the beat and path down hwy 280, you have to be intentional to find it. Specializing in fresh seafood this place provides an upscale feel and vibe when you dine. They also have sushi options as well and have half off bottles of wine on certain days you can't go wrong. The times I have been I haven't been disappointed as the portions are always generous and the service is always nice as well. We came here for brunch for my mom and sister's b'day. When we came in it was nicely decorated with Christmas decor. When I first found the restaurant we had to make a reservation but arrived there but didn't ask our names so we were seated. So I guess you can or not make a reservation. We did mimosas and it was so good. We tried the beignets with orange caramel reduction and it was sooooooo good. The sauce will have me going in there for just that. I ordered the banana foster French toast, my sis ordered the fish and grits, and my mom ordered the breakfast bowl. All the meal were delicious. Megan was our waitress and she was amazing. The set up by the side we were on was nice because we saw what looked like was the beaches on several TVs. My mom went to the rest room and she told us it was very clean. Megan gave them a birthday dessert which was white chocolate bread pudding. Now I don't eat it because that's my mom's favorite dessert but it was so good. So if you like break pudding this is your place to go. Overall, the food was good for lunch and it was quiet even though we were close to other quests. Wine Down Wednesday was a success. They have decent list of half off wine on Wednesday nights which is why we went with another couple. Had an amazing salad and tried the smoked Tuna dip. For some reason Chuck's Fish thinks they are the "it" place to dine here in N. Shelby County - I think not. I have tried, ever since they opened, to love this place, but the food, atmosphere and attitude of the hostess and one of the bartenders seems to continually fall short of simple expectations. The place is terribly loud, for starters. But the menu and service are what really turn me off. I realize that some items, like the Uptown Shrimp, have to remain on the menu if they're all time favorites, but menu doesn't change and the entrees are getting old and "tired". At between $6 (spring rolls) and $15, the appetizer menu is very high priced. Basic, no frills salads are $6-$8, and my wedge (how do you screw up a wedge?) was served with soggy, sticky lettuce and smothered in dressing. I have opted for a pc of fish the past few times we have tried Chuck's (which are at market price), but the last two times we visited, it was clear that the bartender had put the order in at the same time she put our sushi and salad order in because the sushi and salad came out at the same time, and my fish was barely room temp, and dry like it had been sitting there a while. You have to watch out for the specials - There's always something that sounds absolutely wonderful and when you get the bill, you're in shock! I will agree that the sushi menu is vast - There are probably 40 rolls on the menu which range from $9-$16 (and you can also get Nigiri and Sashimi) - But it's terribly unappetizing when it comes to the table - the poor plating is a non starter for me! One could definitely plate sushi up to be something creative and cool - they don't even try here. It's just a roll cut up and plopped onto a plate. And if you're with others (we were with another couple), they ENTIRE sushi order came out on a plate together. I had no idea what I was eating because it all looked and tasted the same. If all that doesn't get you the clientele will --- you're going to get an eyeful of the 60 year old cougars dry humping the "i just got back from the gym" 40-somethings at the bar. ew. read more

I think the collective word we used for this place was: pretentious. First sign: only open for "dinner service." I think half a year ago they toyed with opening for lunch on Fridays or something but went to back to their post-happy-hour hours. The website is pretty good for a preview but when you get there it is like the center of yuppieness. You walk in and you think you just walked into a hotel restaurant. There is a main bar to the side with ginormous wine rack and the hostess (who further reminds you of conference management) asks if you have reservations. And then you suddenly get all self-conscious and wonder if they think you're underdressed (despite wearing a button down and khakis). Yes my friends, this place feels like it wants to tack on the word "business" to "casual". Ok now off to the table (or the sushi bar). The menu is pretty relatively small if you are just there for sushi like we were (the other half of the restaurant is your typical American seafood/steak place). The beer selection was barely passable. No Asahi Super Dry? And the silly state bans 22oz beers so you are limited there as well. The seaweed salad was pretty good, reminiscent of Legal Seafoods and way better than the stuff you get at buffets. Whitney's ginger salad looked awesome though, and I sort of wished I had ordered that (more food, same $4). I got a Spider Roll, a Spicy Octopus Roll, and the following nigiri: Tuna, Salmon, and Yellowtail. The spicy octopus roll was probably the least interesting. The Spider Roll came with a big fried crab claw sticking out of it. The yellowtail was nice (and apparently they had to check if they had any, even though they serve the farmed version). But overall for the price I was paying, I felt underwhelmed. I would rank it above SPR 5 Points and below Surin 280. I think this places tries too hard. Plus they killed the ILoveSushi next door sometime last year. Bottom line: I can only see coming back here if someone else wants to pay for it. read more

We travel to Birmingham for business about six times a year, we considered this place a staple and we make sure to include it in our travel plans for dinner. Our waiter Josh was a very nice young man. Unfortunately when our main course was served it was warm at best. We did not complain as myself personally I do not like to return food to the kitchen. After we finished dinner we felt rushed (9:15 pm) to finish our wine as all the employees were cleaning up and would periodically look over to see if we were leaving. In the next ten minutes or so a couple sat down next to us, ordered a drink and ordered their food. We talk to our server at the bar about our and by this time we have been waiting a total of 55 minutes. At this point, the couple next to us has their meal served to them in a matter of 15 minutes.
