Worst barbershop ever. I went in and asked for just a little cleanup, to keep all the length, and just clean up the neck and beard. I MADE IT VERY CLEAR. she nodded and agreed, then completely dismissed me and cut two inches off of the top. Hair I had been growing out for months. Completely butchered my hair. What a chop shop. I almost cried in the chair. Before I ever sat down, I asked if she could scissor cut, she said yes, then butchered me with the clippers. HOW DO you LEAVE A HAIR IT WITH SPLIT ENDS? No frills great barber shop! Dan took over the shop recently and he's really good. I love his attention to detail and, as someone else commented, I got a lot of compliments. There is no website or RSVP. You just walk in and wait. I guess I was lucky with no wait as he told me his morning was slammed. Found this place on here and it had good reviews and seemed like it would be under $20. I asked for a pretty standard haircut not to short and keep it longer on the top. I have a widows peak and a Kallick and she clearly did not know how to cut hair for these common styles. Should have been simple and cheap $35 later I need to go get my haircut again. Some things have changed now that Chuck retired (at age 90) and sold the business to Dan this Summer. You can get your nails done in the new back room. The wonderful photos of trolly cars left with Chuck. What has not changed are the haircuts and still cash only. 13SEP2011 Vibrating fingers of pleasure. Yes! Very good magazine selection. Wonderful photos of trolley cars. And, yes, they cut hair. I am so not fussy about my haircuts so I cannot judge that part of the experience. I asked for short and got it. No Wi-Fi and CASH ONLY. Been coming here for over 5 years, although some things have changed, it's still the only place I'll go for my haircut! Dan gives a quick, and excellent cut every time! If you come to find a wait, it is worth it. However I usually go early and get right into the chair. Places like this are hard to find now, so get it while you can! Screw that overpriced hipster bullpoop across the street. The three dudes in this shop probably have a combined 100 years of experience cutting hair, give or take a few years. Chuck has been at it for... well, I don't know, but he's no spring chicken, and I mean that in a good way. He's quiet, but still totally knows how to handle himself with clippers, scissors, a straight razor, and those funkyass massage vibrating things they use in this shop. Pretty cool. I needed a break from all the Fantastic Sam's/Cost Cutters/Great Clips BS -- the places where you make all your mistakes for your first two years out of beauty school. This place is definitely a classic. You get the trim, the straight razor shave with Bay Rum afterward, the vibro-massage thing to relax the scalp, the brush with Talcum to get the clippings off your face. Chuck's is the real deal. I love taking my son in for his monthly cut. There is something wonderful about honoring a local small business that has been on the same street for over half a century! I have been a customer for over 20 years. Dan has taken over and the old ambiance is gone. It's just Dan - Boris, Lee and the others are gone, so the wait times are up, and the cut is rushed. With a pedicure shop in back it's no longer an old-time barbershop. But a concession to modernity like credit cards would be welcome - there's no legitimate reason not to accept cards now. read more

Highly do not recommend if you want a fade or anything other than a simple haircut. I asked for a fade and the girl there was going great at first but then out of nowhere they switched and the guy working started to cut my hair and he left me uneven everywhere he also didn't even know what I wanted and just started cutting my hair I asked for a small amount off the top and instead of asking how much he just cut it off also my edges are very uneven. I only recently discovered just how good Chuck's is, tho I moved into the neighborhood nearly ten years ago. (eep, has it been that long?) I'd been going to a small salon run by a married couple because it was a block from my house. But after getting a few marginal haircuts, having to listen to the two of them fight WHILE I'M SITTING IN THE CHAIR, and then finding them not open two or three times when the sign on the door said they were supposed to be, I decided the cheap price wasn't so cheap. Note that closing early or opening late are two of my litmus tests for whether a business is being run professionally or not. I know emergencies happen once in a while, and when there are only two employees, sometimes things come up that you just can't help. But if I go to your business three times in a month, and you have closed 15 or 20 minutes early each time, then that means you've lost respect for the people who pay your bills and you've lost me as a customer. I don't cotton to being inconvenienced repeatedly, just as I don't cotton to someone disrespecting me to my face. I had been aware of Chuck's Barbershop for a while, since I shop and dine on that section of Tennyson frequently, so when I needed a new place to go, I tried there next. And now I can just stop looking. First of all, this is a BARBERSHOP, it is not a hair salon. It is tailored toward men, in the old style of, and with the same mission of, barbershops of the 1950s, tho I have no doubt they would cheerfully give a woman a simple haircut if one walked in and asked. They don't do styling or color, however, they will give you a hot lather shave, a scalp massage, and so on. I've been to the very successful and widely celebrated Floyd's, and while they do perfectly good work, they're a bit proud of themselves. I can get the same experience for much, much less at Chuck's. The guys there are getting on in years, the owner is REALLY old and bent, but still cuts hair with skill. I hope they pass on their legacy to a younger generation of barbers and keep this place open until I die. Plus for $16 it's definitely the best value around. Sure you could go across the street to Proper and pay way more especially if want to instagram your new haircut with all the other hipsters. I'm embarrassed to say that I'm just now reviewing Chuck's, after moving away from Denver. I guess I didn't appreciate the good thing I had going there until I started looking for a new barber in Houston. My introduction to Chuck's was somewhat serendipitous; I moved into a house about two blocks away and decided to give Chuck's a try due to its close proximity instead of my modus operandi of going to the nearest Cost Cutters or Great Clips. If you will allow me a moment of melodrama, this first experience at a real barber was somewhat revelatory; there really is no comparison between a place like Great Clips and a truly great barber like Chuck. For $16 (used to be even less), you get a cut, massage, straight razor on the neck with a splash of Bay Rum afterwards, and a nice cleanup with a brush and talcum powder to make sure you leave looking and feeling good. It's hard to beat that deal. Chuck is getting on in years but is still a great barber. In the six odd years I went to Chuck's though, I had haircuts from all three of the barbers and they all do a good job. Unfortunately, they don't offer straight razor shaves but I grew a beard not long after my first trip to Chuck's so it became a moot point. The ambiance at Chuck's is wonderful too. The place has been on Tennyson since the 50s and it still retains that classic barbershop vibe. Where getting my hair cut had once been a bother, I quickly found myself looking forward to my visits to Chuck's. Going in on a Saturday morning, chatting with the barbers and fellow patrons or reading the paper while waiting for my haircut, and then the great cut itself was all rather therapeutic and became one of my most enjoyable rituals. Even after moving across town, I still made the trip to Chuck's and left feeling relaxed and happy every time. Alas, I recently relocated to Houston and the trip back to Chuck's is just a tad too far. So, my search for a great Houston barbershop to replace Chuck's is underway. However, if you're in the Denver area and looking for a great barber, I highly recommend giving Chuck's a try (be sure to bring cash as they don't accept credit cards). read more

From the greeting when you walk in the door to the shoulder massage before you leave you feel like your business is important to them. The older Asian gentleman cut my hair when I went in the first time without an appointment; I didn't go back. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but the cut was truly awful. Couldn't do anything with the front it was cut so weird; nothing lay easily. It was a template cut, not a cut to fit my hair type or head shape. I know, I know; it's not a salon, it's a barber shop.
