I have been going to retro barbers for years, since before they moved to there new location in wheat ridge. Love the place, but today I went there and was closed till 2-00 o clock. went back at 2-00 0clock sat there until 3-45. nobody showed up. not a good way to do business. now I have to find a new barber that is as good as retro. read more

It breaks my heart to give this place a poor review. Initially I wanted nothing more than to rave about it. The location is convenient, it's relatively affordable, and has a feel like a true barber shop should. However, the last time that I was there (during normal business hours) a sign had been left on the door reading, "Bank". That was it, no times given on when they would be back, nothing. No biggie, I'll just wait. I understand that this thing can happen--I'm a reasonable guy and have been in that same scenario before. A business card had been taped to the window next to the sign, so I called it. Went straight to voicemail. After an hour of waiting I was fed up. Other customers were waiting even longer than I had been--showing just how long the staff had been gone (at least an hour and a half when I left). Exasperated and untrimmed, I left. The true disappointment was not in being left high and dry, but in the staff's response to this treatment. When I voiced (politely) my displeasure at how I was treated, I was given the crude reply "Shit happens". Well, shit may happen but it also comes around. read more

Similar to other reports, my husband has had several instances where they're "closed for lunch" during non-lunch hours or "out to run an errand" as well as having the person working very clearly hiding in the back. Today, my husband saw the dog in the shop, tv was on, and then as he was getting back in the car to drive home, he saw the guy working the shop sneak out the back. This has happened several times - incredibly rude and poor service to have people continually drive to your shop and then blatantly fail to provide the service they're looking for. Needless to say, my husband is fed up and has found a new place to do business with. It looks like the is has been a theme for YEARS...personally, I wouldn't waste your time or money. read more

Got lots of crappy haircuts in Denver before finding this place. John is great and it is a great price.

They are really great barbers. Don't believe the business opening times though. Just sat outside from 8:30 (posted opening time) till 9:00 and they still weren't open. I'll be going back but will call from now on to see if they are open. read more

Properly trained and experienced barbers are hard to find these days. The training is different than what most receive through the local beauty schools and such, it is more specific. Like using a straight razor with shaving cream to shave around the ears, sideburns and neck. Using a splash of witch hazel after the shave. Knowing how to properly do all the basic men's cuts. Being a wizard with clippers (reminds me of the guys that cut hair back in the military). For example, a fade is hard to do right, and there isn't any places that can do it. Retro Barbers can! The original guys are still doing cuts, and the younger barbers are trained or in training to do cuts like a barber. The trade of being a barber is being passed along generation to generation, and not being lost to the chain/franchise hair places. They take being a barber seriously. They won't use anything but the old style barber chairs, folding straight razors, warm moist towels for the shave, industrial quality clippers, and they even have some of the old shoulder massagers that barbers commonly used back in the day. And when you go to pay they keep warm chocolate chip cookies waiting for you at the register. It all adds up to service and quality. We need to support the local businesses and need to keep skills, like being barber, alive, and we need to encourage more businesses to have service like Retro Barbers. Check them out, I can pretty much assure a good experience and a great barber-quality cut. read more

Great place for the old school atmosphere. As far as the business goes it seems this is a hobby, not a business for the owner. They open late, close early, several months ago at 2pm on a Saturday the open sign was lit and lights were on, a dog is running around inside, but nobody around for hours. Very poorly run. read more

It is a decent neighborhood barber. Men's haircut (regular) is $18. Good customer service. I will try them again.

Customer service was the best I have had in my life! My haircut was also the best of my lifetime. I will be back! I will never go anywhere again. You owe it to yourself to come here just try it. I came here for an emergency cut. I came during my lunch so I only had an hour. They got me in and out just in time. They had 4 guys cutting hair so I didn't have to wait at all. The place had the old school barbershop feel. They didn't have any extra gimmicks. Just a straight up barbershop for men. It was great! The gentleman who cut my hair did a good job for the most part. I wish a remembered his name. I just wish he cleaned the back of my head and neck better. I was itchy all day. The top of my hair also wasn't even but its not a big deal because I was able to hide that by styling my hair. For $14, I received more than what I paid for. Looking forward to coming back read more

This place is great!!! My boyfriend was going tonight the same place for over a year and his hair just never looked right. Decided to take him to an old school barber and I'm happy we found these guys. Dave cut my boyfriends hair and wow it looks great! He cuts using shears which is great and makes the hair look just on point. The vibe in here is really laid back and old school, something that's been missing and it's nice this place captures that old school charm. I highly recommend these guys and Dave. They've been in business since 58' so they're clearly doing something right! read more

This place was perfect for what I needed. I was on lunch, so my time was limited. I was able to get service right away just walking in. The barber was top notch. I have mid-long hair for a male and he did a great job handling it. The straight razor neck shave is nice finishing touch. read more

Long overdue review. These guys put the "cool" in the "Old School" without even trying. Every thing on the wall has a story and they'll be happy to talk about it. The haircuts are great, quick and they remember your style. They nail the little details without me having to ask for it. The barbers themselves are really easy going (Phil being my favorite) and it's what you expect from a barbershop - bunch of guys talking about everything under the sun - from football and beer to fishing to pizza recipes. They top of the haircut with a complimentary neck massage that I've never seen elsewhere. After all that, the price is ridiculous - $14 a cut which is astonishingly low in this market. Grab a cookie on your way out and come back in 3 weeks. I love this place and it's a true local business gem. read more

Upon my first visit my rating was absolutely 5 stars. I recently went back for a second visit in hopes of getting another spot on cut from Ron (he's great and has many years of skilled experience). Unfortunately Ron wasn't in this day, but I was greatly desiring a fresh cut. I [wrongly] assumed that if Ron had done such an excellent job, surely his fellow barbers would have somewhat similar skill. I met TJ and had no initial worries of his skill. He seemed well educated in cutting hair, and was a nice guy. His fade was not as perfected as Ron's and other's I've had over the years, but still looked good. Where my experience took a turn for the worst was when he had shaved a spot just above my parting line (about 3 inches below the peak of my skull) down to the skin. He didn't mention a word when he did this, and let me continue to pay and leave. As I was driving home I noticed a 3"x2" patch that was clearly in a spot beyond repair. I returned in hopes of maybe trying to fix the mishap, only to have it even more severely botched. I know this was a mistake as no one is error-free, but to not own up to your mistake in attempts to fix it is unprofessional and I am very unhappy. I am now faced with the decision of shaving my head, or wearing hats for the next month. In my experience here, everyone is super friendly and welcoming. But make sure you go on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday to see Ron, you won't regret it. Also, there's a great chance that the other barbers are superb as well! However, TJ has permanently scarred me from returning to this establishment. read more

I really wanted to try this old fashioned barber as I was looking for a place that more than cutting hair, would trim, and thin my mustache. Unfortunately, I will never know how well they barber. I went for my first haircut at 3PM on a Weds. The door was locked with a scribbled sign, that said BANK. Consequently my 10 mile drive was all for nothing as this establishment, I guess, just leaves anytime, regardless of their posted hours. I sat their for 5 minutes and noticed two more patrons arrive and leave upset that they wasted their time too. Go to the bank on non working time! read more

Very cool place, you feel like you have stepped back in time. Followed Katie to location - great person and stylist. That is why I followed her. Finally found someone who is laid back and funny enough that I like talking to her while I get my hair cut! Would definitely recommend her and the place to anyone. read more
