DO NOT GO HERE! I took my car in for a brake inspection due to excessive squeaking. They did a full car inspection and stated that my brakes were perfectly fine and "still had a lot of life left in them". They did convince me to pay $700 to replace a timing belt. One week later, my brakes stopped working in the middle of me driving. Took it to a different auto shop, my brakes were scraping so bad that my brake lines were broken and the fluid leaked out, causing my brakes to stop working completely. I could have died. This is a difficult update to write because I had previously written a complimentary review with an endorsement. Unfortunately, I was very much mistaken. Short story is they replaced our alternator and battery with new ones in October 2024. In early January, while driving our car lost all electricity and we barely made it home safely. The following day I took it to the official dealer, where their service department explained to us that the alternator was actually previously used/refurbished when installed by Chuck's a few months back. After speaking with Dave at Chuck's they acknowledged using a refurbished part; although they never once mentioning this to us originally and despite charging us a price for a new alternator (according to the dealer service manager). Car was overheating. My friend's Mustang was overheating he took it in for a repair quote. The diagnosis was a bad water pump. he was given a quote of about 900$ for that Job. They came up with a list of other things the car needed ended up over 6000$ if he said yes to all they wanted to do. Low and behold the previous owner said he was surprised to hear the water pump went bad as it had previously been replaced. I looked into it and discovered that the thermostat was the culprit. 7.99 part. Told him to go back and ask for a refund for a faulty diagnosis. He was denied and given a bunch of double talk about all the test they performed. So, if you asked me, I would say watch out this shop could be a shop of horrors. read more

Their customer service is excellent and they did a (mostly) thorough $200 inspection of a vehicle I was looking at purchasing. There was a noise they couldn't diagnose (their theory was the wheel bearing) which would require an additional $150 inspection fee. Unsure if this is normal behavior across the industry. Not a fan of them quoting a Platinum Fuel / Air Induction Service for $470, a service which is commonly seen as unnecessary upselling with minimal benefit. I would double check the specifics for what they're charging per hour and parts cost for each fix and see if it aligns with rates/part prices for the area. read more

TLDR; Please do not pay the "fees" expense on your invoice. When you review the online portal's estimate of work, each service is listed with a base price, the estimated tax, and the combined price of the two. Tax can be a shocker in the end, so that's nice to have it accounted for at the outset. Except that when you move on to the next screen, it hides all of the individual services and brings you to the final price. The final price will be the cost of their work plus a single line item labeled "fees," calculated together to give you a subtotal. Tax is applied to give you the grand total. The catch is, the fees are just the estimated tax given initially with each individual service. So the final price Chucks is charging is actually: work + tax (relabeled as fees)= subtotal; subtotal + tax = final total. So that subtotal round of taxes fees is just an extra charge for them to passively collect, and since the numbers it's pulled from were already on the bill, it's designed to not stand out. Weirdly enough, after I called and specifically noted this, the fees given via the online and physical invoice were reduced to $0.00, and I no longer was on the line for those fake taxes turned fees. I elected to decline the $1,782.39 (that number accounting for just one round of tax) of recommended services that arose out of the courtesy inspection. I have an older, high mileage car, but after reviewing the list recommended services, the majority felt like weak, quota-matching suggestions. I do have to give some level of kudos for the audacity to recommend a casual $1700 of work. After declining and when I went to get my car, they let me know it's doing pretty good overall. The service I took my car in for was something I could get handled at any chain name mechanic. I wanted to head to a smaller local business instead. I would encourage folks to go elsewhere. I'm genuinely thrown by the amount of positive experiences given here. The mechanics/staff I spoke to were very kind. When I expressed frustration and was definitely overly curt with my tone, they were consistently very patient in speaking to me. The turn around time was very quick and they got me into the shop quickly as well. I also felt repeatedly dismissed and disrespected by the service personnel and management*** After a misdiagnosed issue and several calls, I was unable to reach anyone at Chuck's for several weeks. When I did, my concerns were dismissed. I was told they had "done everything right." - We brought in the car for a full inspection because the oil was repeatedly leaking. - The inspection did nothing to address the oil leak and the technician told us we were "running the car into the ground" by not changing the oil. - After two more visits the car began to make a shuddering sound which was dismissed as "normal." We then took the car to Subaru where they diagnosed the need for an $8k transmission replacement. Horrible. They market themselves as Lexus specialist but then I noticed they do that with every manufacturer to get you in the door. They quoted me $1200-$1500 to do a timing belt on a RX400h They said the higher end of the quote would be if they need to replace oil seals, I said that is fine, I would rather know there are new seals in there for the next 60k miles. Not even ten minutes gone and they call me to say they misquoted me and it would be closer to $1600. I SMH and say "fine" Later that afternoon he sends me pictures of my transmission oil and said it was bad and needs to be replaced I told him that I had just replaced it with Toyota fluid and he said "oh that's why it's darker in color, because it's Toyota" SMH (no it's still red) Then he said the cv boot is torn and the axle needs to be replaced. I said "I had just replaced both axles a few months ago as well" he came back " oh it's just a little pin hole nothing to worry about right now." Also said my lower control arm bushings are torn "I said no, they have some cracks in them and are not bad for a 200k Mile car, when they start making noise I will replace them." So I go to pick up my car after getting a text at 4:30 (they close at five) and manage to make it there right before they close, he hands me the bill with a brief discussion on what they did and I said "well did you do the oil seals as this is higher than what you quoted me? He said no, we didn't get to them because they looked dry and we spent a lot of time on the corroded water pump bolts" I looked at the old water pump and saw zero corrosion around the bolt holes, he then tells me how bad a plastic impeller is on a water pump and I said "that is a Toyota water pump that has lasted over 120k miles, how is that bad?" I've been a mechanic in Seattle for over 30 years. I went against my gut because I am limited on space and time and crossed my fingers to find an honest shop. I failed. So I'm convinced the service writers only job at chucks is to lie and upsell services and products. Now I get to go 60 thousand miles and HOPE my cam and crank seals don't leak all over my new, overpriced timing belt. Oh and I received $40 "Chucks Bucks" what a joke. They pay you off with gimmicks. For what they charge that may buy you an air freshener. Or maybe they think I'll pay them to reset my power windows that they screwed up after disconnecting my battery or at the very least wipe the black grease off my glove box door. I went here because it as AAA-certified and nearby. I won't be going back. My car had stalled and then started, but I still wanted to get some diagnostic work done. It was late in the day, but Owen said they could keep the car overnight and get to it the next day. Again, just a simple diagnostic. It took until noon to get my first update, which was that things were taking a while to figure out. No further updates. I knew the shop closed at 5:30, so I called shortly after 4:30 and was told that the diagnostic was still under way but that I would have a full report and list of repairs soon. Wait, wait, wait...neither the report nor the quote reached me until after 5:30, when the shop was already closed. So, if you're keeping track, I lost an entire day due to a simple diagnostic. But that's not the worst. The worst is the game-playing that went on. Before I had the report in hand, Owen mentioned a sensor to me and the battery. Once I got the report, it also mentioned the sensor and the battery. Once I got the actual quotes, though--yes, the sensor was in it, but no battery. No work quoted on the battery at all. Guess maybe it wasn't that bad? And in fact, the battery was under warranty, so I later took it to another shop to service the warranty. They merely knocked some corrosion off the battery, retested it, and it was fine. So, thanks, Chuck's, for not even managing to do elementary cleaning on the battery as part of the diagnostic fee. The quotes for work were outrageous. Numerous things that weren't mentioned as issues at all in the diagnostic, like spark plugs, were quoted at high prices and with no reason given. Even the sensor that was supposedly bad--I called Subaru about it and was told that the most likely cause for the stall I had was needing an oil change, not a bad sensor. The next morning, I had a voicemail from the shop. Guess what it was about? "We should at least do your oil change." Translation: the other work we quoted you was probably trash. To their credit, they did agree to reduce the price on the oil change since I'd paid for the diagnostic, but even at that "reduced" price, it still wasn't cheaper than other oil changes I've had in Seattle. I would NEVER go back here again and would NEVER send a friend here. I felt like I needed a shower after dealing with this shop. read more

Be careful when bringing your vehicle here. I was quoted +$3,000 for a legitimate repair my car needed. When I picked up my car I could hear that there was something not right. I brought it up again and it seems "they overlooked" some other components and didn't realize i needed some additional work. I was quoted an additional $800 which i refused to do and took it to the Ford agency for a second opinion. Im glad i did that, they told me the repairs they did caused the secondary issue and it was easy to tell from their perspective (they fixed my car for less than the $800 as well) This was my go-to place for over 2 years and never had issues. These guys are A+ in my book. I came in with a car I was sure was undrivably broken. After a quick look, Eric said 'nope, I think it's just the tie rod.' - he was right, and, ok the labor cost was high (it needed an alignment and some other stuff), it was WAY less than I was afraid. He was quite honest about what I COULD do to bring the value up and make it a safer car (it's a 2011 Fiesta), but no pressure, no hard sell, just a full estimate of what each thing will cost if/when I want to do it. The car was fixed in 2 days, runs GREAT, and the guys were just SO nice. I recommend them!!! Also, I'd taken the bus up there with my foster puppy - they all were just gushing over her, giving her treats, and smiling and petting her, which made both of us so very happy. These guys are really good. Not the least expensive in town, but certainly not the most, and totally worth it for fast, good service! (remember - in this world you get to pick 2 - fast/good/cheap. They are DEFINITELY the first two, plus honest and just REAL people. (It wasn't crazy expensive. I mean less than I was expecting based on other shops!!!!) Go here. A bit pricey I called to ask about a weird sound my car was making. The person on the phone seemed nice and I was able to bring my car in as soon as possible which was great! I arrived and we took a drive (basically backed out and it made the noise) and he quoted me the price to take a look at it. I believe he said $60-$130. I walked home and they texted me me about 3 hours later. The text had a link that reported they had found the problem, my breaks needed replacement. It then went on to quote me a little over $1000 for the front brakes, another $1000 for the back brakes. $150 or so to change the brake fluid, along with some other recommendations. It was pretty pricey for me so I declined it. I I then received a call confirming I had denied. There was no recommendations about what to prioritize or price negotiation, simply that they confirmed I rejected the fixes. He also informed me that I would have to sign a form because my car was not safe to drive. I okayed this - I found a mechanic close by that did the brakes and brake fluid for $1500 compared to the $2200+ this place had quoted me. I would've went with them if I could afford it given its very close by, but managed to save a few hundred. Below is a break down. In total I think i paid $86 so they could tell me I needed brakes. My car briefly overheated and since I had received a $20 coupon in the mail from Chucks, I decided to bring it in for them to check it out. I was assured that most likely it was a minor fix. A couple hours later I was called about the "bad news" that the head gasket was bad and needed to be replaced. The "evidence" was from "hydrocarbons" somewhere they shouldn't be. I was given a $3000+ quote for head gasket repair; which was outrageous! There were no other signs of the head gasket being bad other than that extremely brief overheating. Not able to afford an expensive repair, I picked up my car and had to pay a nearly $140 bill for the "courtesy" of that diagnosis. That $20 coupon is after tax so it really didn't make much of a difference. I drove the car for almost a month and it never overheated. I paid for a $140 fluid top off so that helped! I took the car into a more honest shop today and it turns out that radiator cap was swollen and they replaced it; a $14 part. They also wrote on the receipt: "there isn't any evidence of head gasket failure". A swollen radiator cap can cause engine overheating. So if you feel like getting scammed into unneeded expensive repairs go to this shop. Glad I got a second opinion from a much more honest and reputable shop! read more

I sent my car for a repair and when I got it back something in the engine was ticking and making the car sputter. I called right after leaving complaining about the problems and I was brushed off saying it was just the oil. I then proceeded to get an oil change which fixed nothing so I called again. They continue to tell me it has nothing to do with anything they've done but turns out while checking my spark plugs they did not plug them back in at all and that's what was causing the problems. I had an outstanding experience with Chuck's. I had an SUV that had engine failure. They were reasonable and professional the whole way. They gave me multiple options to repair including an offer to buy the vehicle as-is. I opted to do the repair. They stayed in constant communication. They rejected the first replacement engine as not meeting their standards. This increased the repair time, but it was greatly appreciated that they were focused on quality. A major repair like this can become an opportunity to nickle-and-dime but they didn't do that, they worked to stick closely to their initial estimate despite some unexpected challenges along the way. My truck overheated the week I was trying to list it for sale. I emailed to make an appointment the night my truck overheated, and Chuck's was able to fit me in the next day. I requested a general inspection in addition to the diagnostic test, and the issue was simply a faulty thermostat, which they replaced immediately. Throughout the whole process, the technicians made me feel like my car was their top priority and were enthusiastic in explaing the pros and cons about further maintenance needed, without pushing unnecessary costs. And their general inspection report is so thorough! Complete with pictures, additional mechanic notes and quotes, the report will be an excellent tool in selling my car. Some reviews on here speak about dishonesty at Chuck's; however, I felt quite the opposite. They answered all of my extensive questions and provided thorough, scientific explanations. Not the best. Chuck's is extremely overpriced and dishonest. $50 for an oil change is outright ridiculous! There's also no waiting room, you have to wait in the weird coffee shop next door. They also over-book and do not know how to manage their time/appointments. When I showed up on time for my appointment, the front desk told me they needed my car for the entire day with absolutely NO notice. Had I known they'd be taking that long, I would have brought work with me to complete or arranged for a ride. I told the front desk worker I had to leave because I could not sit around for 4-5 hours waiting for an oil change. They did a "complimentary inspection" on my car (which I did not consent to/was not informed about prior to my appointment) and quoted my car to "need" over $600 in repairs. Not accurate or honest! I had some work done by this shop then took my car to another location for a second opinion for the remaining only to find out that 80% of the things they called out were complete BS. This shop gave me a hard time for having a roof box on my car because of constraints with their lift/space. While thats reasonable it should be on them to call out constraints within their operation upfront vs expecting the customer to read their mind. Was not impressed with their service manager Owen. I hate writing reviews and even more I hate having to make repairs to my car. Instead of buying a new car my partner and mom convinced me to repair mine so I relented and sent it to Chuck's. I was hoping that my 11 year old Subaru would take 4+ days but it took 3 to be done and honestly I wanted more time to get the dollars together. The list of repairs was very long as it was leaking oil like a stuck pig and no other repair shop has EVER told me to get anything preventative done to my car. I will be honest and I know someone who works there but with that being said he would not have allowed me to bring my car there if the work done was not quality work. I am confident that if there is any issue that arrises that they will be fair with what needs to be repaired and not over charge, but hell I can't fix my car myself and they are tons cheaper than the dealer for everything. The guy I know there even gave a friend a quote on a clutch replacement that was less than the VW dealer and then the dealer matched his estimate saving her hundreds. He also gave her additional information about what was needing to be done empowering her when she talked to the dealer. Won't go back. Wife took our truck to find out about a burning smell. Chucks had us replace the head gasket. About a week later I noticed a head light out. When I went to change it I found the bulb had become dislodged and melted the plastic. Chucks did refund us the labor but we still paid about 200 for a problem that didn't exist. On a second occasion my car, which was a manual transmission, all of a sudden wouldn't go into 2nd, 4th, or reverse. I researched what I thought the problem was which was a holding clip on the shifting cables. I was told by Chucks I would need a new transmission costing about $3000. I decided to try and fix myself. It was the cable holding clip. Took about and hour to fix and the part from a junk yard cost me a dollar. Be wary! read more

I went in to have my car looked at for a terrible smell (thought to be mold from a sunroof drainage leak/blockage). I was referred to go to Chucks to get it checked out. Owen greeted me and asked to take a look at my car. He tested the drainage for leaks, and then again for any blockages. After coming to the conclusion that whatever it was that caused the blockage was no longer an issue, he gave a recommendation for how to solve the odor (they didn't have the equipment to do it there). He gave very detailed instructions on what to tell the detailer, what kind of machines/methods to use, etc. He then asked if I wanted him to write any of it down since it was a seemingly detailed list for someone who had no idea what he was talking about! I was charged almost $300 for diagnostic and they didn't even fully diagnose the problem, wanted to charge me $1700 to replace a seal that would have been covered by my warranty had they done the full diagnostic. Terrible shop that treated me like a dumb girl.... I took it to another shop which did the diagnostic and found that it was my torque converter (part of the transmission and therefore covered in my warranty) was only charged $200, the price of my deductible on my warranty. I write this review after two experiences with Chuck's. I drive a 20-year-old Corolla. I got into a fender bender more than two years ago and the folks at Chuck's fixed my car for a price under what they quoted me. My car has since made it to San Francisco and back twice. It has made it to central Oregon and back no less than ten times. I drive it often -- at least once a week -- and other than a freak flat tire, until yesterday I hadn't had a single problem with it. Yesterday, my oil filter came loose and caused my car to sputter and die. I thought it was something that was going to require a very expensive repair. The guys at Chuck's told me it was just a loose oil filter, so they changed it as well as my oil and got me a new set of front brakes (which I know I actually needed because I keep good car records) for a very reasonable price -- and they managed to do it in time for me to get to my dad's in Oregon for Thanksgiving. The mechanics there take the time to tell you exactly what needs immediate attention and what you can put on hold. I have been driving old cars for years. I've had half a dozen mechanics (all at big chains) try to fleece me or overcharge me for services I don't even need. The folks at Chuck's have been the happy exception to that rule.
