We arrived right at opening and were the first ones there on Saturday morning. We were then greeted by our server who adequately taught us how everything works. Pretty simple, there are different tiers and each tier offers something different. Of course, we went for the top diamond tier which includes all-you-can-eat Japanese and Australian wagyu, unlimited appetizers and pretty much everything on the menu was unlimited at that tier. Starting off with all 4 of the appetizers offered, the bone marrow was quite amazing. Rich, buttery and tasted great, fresh off the grill. The wagyu nigiri was a favourite of ours. The rice was nicely seasoned and we couldn't get enough. The wagyu tartare was nice, and we wished we were served the toasted bread from the bone marrow rather than the chips. Unfortunately, the sweet shrimp wasn't too fresh. The heads showed signs of blackening, and it tasted close to the end of its shelf life. The thinly sliced wagyu was exquisite. We tried not only the Japanese wagyu, but the Australian wagyu as well, and we kept ordering tray after tray of it. The seafood bowl that came with our tier was a nice touch. I can't say I was a huge fan of the king crab that was offered. These were the end and knuckle pieces that didn't have much meat in them. These could have been skipped as amazing as king crab sounds. As for the vegetables and sides, they were fresh and really added to our hot pot experience. Overall, coming in at $90/per person, I feel this is a steal. An amazing price point to eat unlimited rich, buttery, marbled beef. We also found our server to be very attentive which was greatly appreciated. As a huge NYC chubby cattle bbq fan (and also chubby tan) I was super excited to come to PA to try this branch of chubby cattle hot pot style! Be sure to book reservations as spots fill out quick! Got the gold tier for the whole family and the A5 meat was soooo tender and soft. The broth and side sauces could've had more variation as I felt like it could've used more flavor. Not sure if that was a tactic on their part to have guests taste the authentic wagyu quality more but definitely would've appreciated more dipping flavors. The seafood platter was amazing!! Bummer it was only one tray. Also the limited 1 piece per guest - wagyu nigiri - was chefs kiss! Bone marrow was yummy but you'd have to love the fatty taste to be okay with it. Great ice cream selection and drinks (milk tea + coconut milk were the favs). As a loyal Chubby Club member who had experienced the high standards of several of your restaurants, I opted for the highest tier menu expecting exceptional culinary experience and standard of service for my birthday dinner with a friend. Unfortunately, the evening fell far short of the expectations associated with Chubby Group. First, the ambiance was severely compromised by an unacceptable level of noise. Throughout our entire meal, there was a constant, disruptive noise from dish prepping occurring immediately adjacent to the dining area. Instead of a premium dining atmosphere, the persistent clatter made it difficult to enjoy our evening and hold a conversation. Furthermore, I was deeply concerned by the lack of proper sanitation. While dining, we noticed multiple gnats, fruit flies, and actual flies buzzing around our table and the food. Finding pests in the dining area is a major health and cleanliness issue that I did not expect to encounter at your establishment. I have attached a picture of a fly landing on the veggies tray at our table while we dined. Finally, the quality of the premium seafood was incredibly mediocre. The abalone had a distinctly off taste, raising concerns about its freshness. Additionally, the king crab served to us was remarkably tiny and contained almost no meat, which is unacceptable for a top-tier menu offering that explicitly promises premium ingredients. Where to start... Unfortunately I was quite disappointed with the overall experience here at this branch of Chubby Cattle. First, the location was poorly identifiable as there were differently labeled signs outside the restaurant. Second, the restaurant overall gave you the feel that it was supposed to feel newish and upscale, but as you dined and looked around you could tell this place needed a real makeover. Bathroom was dirty and had a very weird design/esthetic. And the whole restaurant had a greasy feel to it like it genuinely needed a full deep clean. The sauce bar was poorly stocked and even considering the amount of staff on hand should've never required us to request a restock of sauces over 30 minutes into our meal. The sauce bar was directly beside the hot curry and ground wagyu station both of which sat in beaten up bins that felt like they would fall apart if you opened them or if pushed 1 inch too far would fall into holes in the counter. The drink bar had warm milk tea, warm thai tea, warm coconut milk?, and a small vareity of pespi products all from which you had the thinnest paper cups to use to enjoy. Make note that they became soggy and nervous to use after about 10-15 minutes of holding any liquid. For food, hey all you can eat wagyu is pretty cool and was great. But it took about 25 minutes of your allotted 1.5hours to get your side veggies, approx 30minutes to get your soup and about 35-40 minutes before you get your meat. Sure part of this time is ordering what you want to eat, but also note that the smartpad they leave you to order will limit the amount of meat you can order. For example, per order you may only be allowed to order 1-2 servings of a specific cut of meat which was not clearly specified upon choosing your tier. That and some of the dishes in your tier may be limited to 1 of 4 options per person per visit! It was also upsetting to see that several items such as enoki mushrooms were completely out of stock and unavailable for order. There were a minimum of three servers for the small space and aside from Jilliane the rest of the serving staff allowed calls to run for several minutes creating an annoying ringing sound throughout the restaurant and allowed for multiple orders for more meat to pile up for quite a while. I watched and noted many staff wander while orders piled up stopping to socialize or have extended water breaks. Personally would not recommend and am not likely to return to a Chubby Cattle (at least this branch) for a long while. Shoutout out to our main server Jilliane who was great and attentive. Out of all the Chubby Cattle locations I've been to, the Philly location was unfortunately a disappointment. The beef was the highlight it was very fresh and good quality. However, the quality of most of the other ingredients was pretty poor and noticeably below what I've experienced at other Chubby Cattle locations. Chubby Cattle in Philadelphia Chinatown was a great experience for an all you can eat wagyu hotpot. We chose the basic menu, and even that tier felt like a solid upgrade from a typical hotpot place. The wagyu brisket had really nice marbling and held up well in the broth. It was flavorful, tender, and didn't break apart as easily as lower quality cuts sometimes do. A standout for me was the wagyu ground meat served over rice. It felt almost like a little wagyu donburi moment within a hotpot meal, and it was surprisingly satisfying. There were plenty of meat choices to rotate through and a good amount of vegetables, mushrooms, and other add-ins to build a balanced pot and not feel overwhelmed by just meat. I came here for lunch with friends and thought that the meal was alright. Having tried the Chubby group in LA and NYC, this spot was very underwhelming. The interior of the restaurant is smaller than I expected, the side bar was also a bit limited, and service was spotty/slow (a couple of our items didn't arrive, so we had to ask for them multiple times). We did their silver tier and it was alright. The meat quality was a bit gamey and after a while, it didn't taste very good. Their seafood and veggies weren't bad quality though. We got the diamond tier menu and honestly it is very pricey, but it was definitely worth the experience for me. I've had shabu in Japan and I felt that this was just as good or even better. The only issue for me was I think there was a slight water leak as it was very near me. The best parts of the menu are definitely all the premium ones we got, we did try the non premiums and they were still good. All the premium meats had this beautiful marbling and it was amazing to eat each piece. I think I liked the Japanese wagyu over the Australian just a bit more, but do definitely try Australian! I generally don't get a lot of seafood at shabu, but the platter had really good scallop and fish. We had a few orders of those and they were fresh and soft every time. I came here with a group of 9. We were seated in 2 separate tables, which is alright. The meat quality wasn't bad. All the meat were thin cut, which shorten the cooking time. At this Japanese hotpot place, there are 4 levels of ayce wagyu meat, with the lowest level only includes American wagyu, and the highest has American, Australian, and Japanese wagyu. Besides, levels 2-4 also let you order specialty dish like nigiri, tartare, and bone marrow, which taste good. The sukiyaki broth tastes good and is on the sweeter side while the spicy miso broth is kinda bland. For meat, Aus wagyu is overall more tender. They only have 3 cuts of beef: brisket and chuck ribeye are equally as good with brisket has a bit more fat; shoulder has least fat and not as good to me. They also have chicken and pork which actually look pretty good but we did not try. Veggie and other things options are pretty limited. They have an area for you to get sauce, sides, and dessert but a couple things were not available and milk tea tastes bad. I like this place! This was my first real hot pot experience, so I was definitely excited to dine here. For one price ($40 if I'm not mistaken), you get all the ingredients you want plus unlimited sushi. I mean who can resist? The sushi was pretty good for being all-you-can-eat, and all the cuts of meat they provided us with were super flavorful and cooked well in the broth. I was pleased with their selection of ingredients as well, and there's something for everybody, from carnivores to vegans. My only complaint was that one of the seats at our table was broken, and the temperature/thermostat was not working correctly for that particular hotpot. We did the all you can eat hot pot and sushi for $38.99/ person. There is a conveyor belt that goes around for the sushi, although the choices on there were quite limited. If you want other options, you would need to order from the tablet. I'm not sure if it was because it was a slower day, but something to keep in mind if you go during the same time. There were a few different soup bases for the hot pot. We posted the tomato ox tail and the sukiyaki. First thing I noticed with the tomato ox tail was there was no ox tail. No ox tail in both the flavoring nor the actual ox tail. It just felt like a regular tomato broth. The sukiyaki was extremely salty. Options were plenty, with wagu, brisket, pork belly, different mushrooms, different tofu, seafood options, noodles, the list goes on. You can also order appetizers, fried rice, etc, all of which are included in the price. Also, the sauce tray they bring out is quite convenient. What's there not to love about an AYCE spot that delivers on its promise of great hot pot + sushi + appetizers? Usually, AYCE doesn't deliver on quality, but this place gets it right on everything. A Party of 2 dined in on Friday evening Around 5:15 pm, I called to see if we could reserve the table but was told that reservations are available for only four or more groups of people And they were not busy at the moment. My friend arrived first while I was struggling to find a park since it's street parking in busy Chinatown They told my friend that there was one hour and half limit for dining and they would start the clock 10 minutes after she sat. (there is no conveyor belt upstairs) At each table, there was a tablet that you could use to place an order Upstairs was set up more for family, so the hot pot was not individually set up. My friend and I picked a pot separated into two parts to have individual broth on each side. We placed a bunch of orders, but regardless how many portions we ordered, they brought small quantities. I had to ask them to get extra Due to a system error, our sushi and roll order did not go in, so they had to fix that There was sauce platter that goes around to serve all tables.... so the server had to take it from us to serve other tables and bring us back, etc The table behind us was there longer than us, but the server came to us and informed us that the time was over but would extend 15 more minutes and wouldn't charge a fee for leftover food. I usually would have been more upset about inconvenience, rules and restrictions, But the service was good! Hot Pot is a unique cuisine, and somewhat of an acquired taste if you haven't tried it before. Basically, it's a large pot of boiling broth, and you cook meats, vegetables, and other items in it while dipping the cooked item in your own sauce before eating it. So we've decided to dine here in celebration of a special occasion. They will accept reservation for a party of six or larger. The beef served here is of good quality, American Wagyu beef. Also available are lamb, pork belly, and a wide variety of seafood. Besides Hot Pot, they also offer a nice selection of Sushi. It is a set price all you can eat setup, with a 2 hours limit. However, the service/preparation was less than desirable. Some of our order took over an hour to come out! Also, management decided to staff only one server for the entire floor. As you can imagine, the server seems to be overwhelmed at times. This is not a fault of the server, but of the management. The condiments offered to make your own sauce seems lacking in variety as well. Most Hot Pot places offers a wide variety of condiments for your sauce. This place offered only a handful. Considering the pricing and service provided, we feel that there are better alternatives in Chinatown, and other locations. read more
