Jason C overheard my kid wanting orange slices and he confirmed with my son and went and got him a plate of orange slices! Also, sometimes the grill gets overwhelming as I feed the kids and he always checked on me and helped me cook so I could feed my kids. He knew we came here often and even made us a small plate of a seasoning to dip the meat in to get us to try to flavors. It was actually pretty good. Haha. Excellent! Josh H took great care of us. Our grill wasn't working and they offered on the spot solutions with options. What could've been a bad dining experience was saved. Now to the food. We started with silver for first timers. It was good! The wagyu sushi was fire for an appetizer. Sushi is great for in between before the next round of 10 meats. Try every meat there is'. So fun and flavored just right that you don't even need sauce!(but if you wanted sauce it's there). Don't forget the bar of veggies in the back and the cool rice machine! One button and hot steaming rice! Soups are good too. I mean there's something for everyone! Before you leave don't forget the cheese tart and the soft serve. It's everything and more. Chubby Cattle in Irvine was such a delicious and fun way to consume your daily iron. They serve a variety of different cuts and types of beef, pork, and sushi. There is usually a long weekend (we came on a weekday and had to wait 80min) however they have games you can play on outside of the restaurant while you wait. It was a fun activity to pass time with my bf. The inside is clean and the staff is super knowledgeable. We especially loved our waiter Jason. He was super kind and patient with us even though he was supposed to go on his 30 min break. First time trying Chubby Cattle and I was definitely impressed. Went on a Friday afternoon not too packed, but tables were filling up. You choose your tier based on meat quality; we went with the silver tier and it did not disappoint. All the meats were flavorful and delicious. Ordering is easy through the kiosk, and there are also soups and hot dishes. I tried the tom yum and it was rich and super tasty. Drink options were great too: lots of fountain drinks, juices, milk teas, and slushes. The self-serve sides were a nice touch, with options like wagyu sliders and baked sweet potatoes. The ambience was on point playing rnb and hip hop unique décor with a mix of anime and Super Mario vibes. What really made the experience stand out was Ryan. He was extremely friendly, super attentive, and even helped cook and cut our meats. Since it was our first time, he gave great recommendations and made everything feel easy and welcoming. Honestly, his customer service alone would make me come back. Ryan was amazing, and we were really happy to have him as our waiter. We arrived about 15 mins after it opened and it was still packed and we weren't able to get a table right away due to what I believe was a staff issue as they accidentally gave our table to another party. Due to that, we ended up waiting about 1hr 15 mins for another table to open up. We had a table of 7 and one small grill for all of us. I liked the ordering system but it does limit you and forces you to go to their self serve area for other options. Portions were small per order and you could do about 10 little items each order every 5 mins or so. The meat quality was good and I did like their other options. It is definitely pricier than your average KBBQ, but it's worth it. Depending on which Tier you get, the meat quality gets better. Finally tried out Chubby Cattle for the first time tonight, even though I've always heard great things about their other locations from friends. Better late than never! It's replaced Tokyo Table at Diamond Jamboree (which is sad, mainly for nostalgic reasons), but I'm glad it did. Overall had a good experience and would recommend everyone to try at least once. You can choose between different set menus. We decided to go with the "Gold" option, but they recommend "Diamond" if it's your first time. You order with an iPad, which is pretty convenient. Unfortunately, our iPads weren't working until halfway through the meal, but our server, Tyler, really went above and beyond to put in our orders, check in on us, and also helped us cook our meats when he could. His care and attention alone made our experience 5/5 despite the technological difficulties. The special Wagyu beef in the Gold menu were really tasty, but even the other AYCE options were delicious. I personally liked that they offered different types of beef tongues and marinades. They even had Iberico pork, which was delicious. The steak options were very tender as well. Between the four special menu options, I recommend the wagyu uni caviar nigiri. I tried some of the uni mentaiko, but it was not a favorite. They do offer a self-serve bar, which included fruits and ice cream! They also had a great selection of drinks, including Jasmine milk tea and passion fruit lemonade. I didn't peruse the self-serve section too much only because I was so full from the regular BBQ menu. They do serve nigiri as well, but I opted out of trying them tonight. Although it is pricey, I think Chubby Cattle is a great option for the carnivores in your life. Quality is good, and service is top notch. The food was good overall. I prefer the meat quality at the first location in Rowland Heights. But, since this is a new location, I think it will get better. I also like their self-serve area. They have different milk tea flavors, sliders, desserts, and build your own curry rice. The grill here doesn't work well; the fire goes out randomly, and it takes a long time to cook the meat. The iPad used to place the order was nice, but it lagged for us. We had to press multiple times to add items or submit the order. The service was pleasant and friendly. However, our server kept insisting on buying membership to my friends every time she came by, which was quite annoying. The ambiance is nice, it's a bit smaller than the other locations, which makes it a bit cramped. Came here with a coworker a few weeks ago and the man, the line was extremely long! Wait time was like 2 hours. Swore we got there at 6 and didn't eat until 9. This was on a Tuesday too. There was 4 menu's to choose from, we were both expecting that it was AYCE for it all. There's a small hallway where you can gather all your condiments, sauces, sides, etc. There was a section to pick out your veggies. A station where they had sliders, corn cheese, and some egg tarts. Another station where they had a machine that dispenses rice and you can select your choice of a few different types of curry. Overall, everything was good as far as quality of meats. The ultimate AYCE experience plus top quality sushi. Plan to come early and place your name on the wait list, heads up that you can still wait up to 2 hours. FYI, this review is from the perspective of a pescatarian so I can't speak to any of the meat. Although it is mainly marketed as an AYCE KBBQ restaurant, their sushi is top notch. They offer nigiri, carpaccio, and hand rolls. I'd prioritize the tuna nigiri if I had to pick one because the tuna was fatty and not overwhelmingly fishy. They also have an incredible self service area with banchan, fruit, soups/curries, and hot side dishes. The dessert buffet is also amazing with the best egg tarts, ice cream, crepe cakes, Swiss rolls, and matcha mochi (the only one that you have to order on the iPad). Our server Emily, was the best of the best. She explained everything clearly, helped us with cooking, and had great food recommendations. She checked in on us at the perfect intervals and gave us a heads up when it was our last call (you get 70 minutes to order and 90 minutes total to eat). This spots sits inside the already busy Diamond Jamboree, so definitely come early to check in and park! The service at this location was pretty good. The hostess was quick and efficient. Meat is always tender, always served properly, thin cuts properly thin, thick cuts properly thick for the juicy medium rare. The only difference between their locations is really the unique ambiance, what's around there to do while you wait an hour for your table, and what they have for self service. So I'll focus on those. Chubby Cattle is a premium AYCE Japanese BBQ with locations throughout the country. The Chubby group also has hot pot, shabu shabu, curry, dumplings, and skewer restaurants as well. This location just recently opened in Irvine in the Diamond Jamboree plaza which is notorious for having really bad parking and this new addition doesn't help. Because it just opened there are large crowds even before opening so I recommend coming early or waiting for the lines to die down a little. There are four different tiers which is unique from other locations (which only have 3). The tiers have different kinds of meats and higher tiers have access to lower tiers. Each tier also has access to sashimi, hand rolls, seafood, hot sides, and soups. Once you get seated you'll come across a giant screen at your table and a grill in the middle. There is a 90 minute dining limit and last call after 75 minutes. You can order up to 10 items every 5 minutes and they recommend maxing that number out. There is a self-serve station for sauces, rice, hot and cold sides, milk tea and lemonades, and soft serve. We got the diamond tier ($88) which included choosing two items per person from the special meats and special dishes list. What I really liked were the A5 short rib thick cut, A5 top blade, wagyu otoro uni caviar handroll, wagyu dry-aged shuck eye steak, Australian dry-aged brisket, A3 cube, and beef tongue platter. What I thought was good were the corn cheese, yellowtail and salmon carpaccio. What I thought was okay was the A5 chuck roll thin cut (too chewy). This location is smaller than the Rowland Heights location and it was a tight squeeze getting sauces and sides with so many other people doing the same. The platinum level is not at other locations but I think for most people the other three levels will suffice and you'll still get delicious high quality meat regardless. read more

First time at any of the Chubby Cattle Bbqs, but not our first rodeo at a Chubby Club establishment. The ambiance and interior is really cool. Very video game/arcade esque pops of color and night market vibes for seating. Though the aisle with all the food and drinks gets incredibly backed up. I hope they find a way to space that out in the future. They have very similar sides to the Wagyu Factory in The District in Tustin, such as the egg tarts (one of my favs), corn cheese, sweet potato cheese. Though they don't have as many sides as Wagyu Factory, they do have wagyu sliders and those were delicious. Drinks are self serve with lemonades and milk tea. If you're missing orobae style milk tea, mix their samurai milk tea and their jasmine milk tea. You're welcome. Now the main attraction: the meat You get limited items and also ayce items, all of which were amazing. Incredibly tender, flavorful, melt in your mouth deliciousness. Our favorite cuts were the lamb, cubes, rib fingers, and the brisket. The salt and house sauce were fantastic pairings. We also got their sushi, which was surprisingly really good and high quality for an ayce bbq place. I also got the toro uni caviar hand roll and the mentaiko uni which they torched. Our server, Tyler, was incredibly attentive, nice, and helpful. I've been to four other Chubby Cattle branches, and this was my friends' first time. I brought them to the Irvine location specifically because it's the only branch with dry aged beef and Hokkaido uni, so I hyped it up a lot. Because of the initial wait, it did leave a slightly off first impression for them. That said, Jonathan was amazing. He was super kind, attentive, and accommodating. He even suggested getting the matcha crepe cake with vanilla ice cream on top. At first, I didn't fully understand his recommendation, but once we clarified, he happily put it together for us and it ended up being such a good call. He really pampered us, especially with how proactive he was in clearing our table as new orders kept coming in, which we really appreciated. Food wise, my friends enjoyed the meat selections and side dishes a lot. We ordered the Diamond, and while I missed which cut was the dry aged one, everything was still really good. My personal favorites were the Hokkaido uni and otoro, very fresh with none of that musty taste you sometimes get from a bad batch. My friends especially loved the scallops. I'm not entirely sure, but the hot pot might be a newer addition. It was nice having soup options. They offered three broths, kimchi, sukiyaki, and one I can't remember, but we really enjoyed the sukiyaki. They also have a mini arcade outside, which helps pass the time while waiting, since this branch doesn't have a Yelp waitlist or reservations. Please try the matcha crepe cake with vanilla ice cream. Save your money. It started off bad and never recovered. The hostess explained the menu but conveniently left out the Silver option. Only mentioned Gold, Diamond, and Platinum. When I asked about it, she awkwardly said it was "in the back." That already tells you everything about how this place operates. Ordering is a mess. Everything is done on a tablet, but it is just endless pages of meats, seafood, and flashy graphics. It looks nice at first, then quickly becomes confusing and annoying. We went with the Diamond tier for the so called "special" meats. The server said two per person, which sounds reasonable until you realize it is two total. Not per round. Total. After that, the entire "special" menu locks you out. And honestly, you are not missing anything. The A5 wagyu is a joke. Sinewy, dry, and mostly chunks of flavorless fat. This is not A5. Not even close. The rest of the meats were just as bad. Low quality, forgettable, and nowhere near what you are paying for. The grill barely works. Weak heat, no proper sear, nothing. The server actually told us to cook fatty meat with lean meat just to create flames. Even then, the meat just sat there turning gray. That is unacceptable for a BBQ restaurant. Sauces were basic. Sweet and salty, no depth. Sushi was mid at best and completely forgettable. Now let's talk about the price. $88 per person for this? That is absurd. And the worst part. The time limit. You get 90 minutes starting from when you begin ordering. Last call at 70 minutes. We were told they would notify us. They did not. Instead, the hostess comes out of nowhere saying our last call already passed and we had 17 minutes left. Rushed, sloppy, and unprofessional. This place sells an experience, but fails at the basics.
