We had expected to take months to find a home right for us, but to our happy surprise stumbled upon a wonderful home unexpectedly quickly. The big thing to fix before we moved in, was demolishing the old, impractical closet shelving and organizing (to replace with new). Because it all happened far faster than expected, we found ourselves needing contractor help in a hurry to get a large walk-in closet and four other bedroom closets demolished, patched, and painted. I went on Yelp, found CHS were top rated, and sent them a message. Bill and his team at CHS replied within 24 hours to our first inquiry. We exchanged texts with photos and questions and got and accepted a quote within a day. They were in our house three days later and got the job done two days after that. They stripped the floor to ceiling old shelves, patched and repainted the walls, fixed the hardwood floors and left everything completely clean. From first Yelp search to finished job, one week. I had CHS come out to do an estimate for a wall removal, painting and drywall work. We agreed on the price and he insisted I pay 50% deposit with a check. Something told me not to do so, and instead paid with a credit card. Turns out that was the last I heard from them. Took me for thousands of dollars!! Luckily I was able to file a credit card fraud claim and got my money back and hopefully gave CHS a black eye on the credit rating. Also keep good records of everything for they lied to the auditors about the situation as well, but I had evidence of their wrong doing! STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! read more

Had a couple of items that needed to be done. One of the stairs leading up to the house was 'soft' and we had an A/C unit that needed venting out a window. Long story short: Terrible follow-up and communication, but happy with *most* of the work that was finished. A two-week project took almost 2 1/2 months (and is not even finished). So months and thousands of dollars later my door doesn't lock (installed incorrectly), the structure was never lifted, the 6"x6" beams we agreed on are 6"x3.5" (never consulted on that change), and my custom window is without shocks so it doesn't stay open. I wanted to continue to use Creative Handyman Services to finish this project and others, but now I have to find someone else and unfortunately can not recommend them to others. The last communication I had from him was 8/24 and no one will return my calls or text messages. Bill (co-owner) actually seems like a really nice guy but probably needs someone to help to schedule and manage his projects. He even helped me out with talking to my electrician at the beginning of the project because he was in the neighborhood. All the subcontractors that work for him are all great and do a nice job, but I wish I would have just hired them directly because I had to follow up all the time to make sure they were even coming. I mean, the point of hiring someone like Bill's company that deals with all the subcontractors is so that you don't have to worry about it, but I did anyway. When I first contacted him to build an outdoor living area (she shed) he came out to give me a free quote back in June 2020. We emailed a few times before the project started. On June 18th I asked him how long it would take to build the entire project and his email response June 19th was: "Time frame would be 10 to 14 days to complete." Timeline: July 2nd: He texted they would come out and start all the outdoor building while I had the electricians do the inside work. No show. July 6th: they were supposed to come, no show with an excuse about the electricians being in the way which is why they didn't come. July 7th: work started on doors and windows July 9th: our power was out so he said drywall July 10th. July 10th: No show, so I texted and he said drywall guy would come out to see what he needed to do. I also ask are we going to start on the outside? Bill: when we're done with the drywall July 14th: drywall finisher had an emergency so the drywall is still not finished. Outside not started. Structure never lifted. July 15th-17th: drywall finishers came but left everything completely dusty (piles of drywall dust). I was unable to paint. I haven't seen Bill at the job since June. I don't hear from Bill from July 18-28th. I texted and called. I finally texted: "Hey Bill, is everything okay? Please give me a call when you see this." He calls me back July 29th: the project starts again and they clean up the drywall mess July 30th: Custom window is started July 31th: AC installed August 3-13: Lots of work got done! Trash removal, outside deck/roof, trim and floor inside August 15th: I asked for some holes in the drywall to be fixed from the workers and they came and patched/painted. I paid the final payment August 19: I texted to ask about the window shocks August 24th: Bill doesn't want to do the shocks and suggests to have a hook and rope to keep the window open. This was something we discussed at the beginning of the project, but I don't agree because it is not as safe. August 29th: I text Bill about setting up a time to talk about the finishing up the project September 11th: Someone comes out to install the shocks, but after trying to install them he says they are the wrong size. He said he knows what to get and he will let Bill know - it should only be a few days from Amazon. That was the last I heard from anyone... I have called, texted, and left messages. read more

If you can get CHS to respond, commit, and show up, they'll do a good job, at least based on experience of more than a year ago. Responsiveness and commitment are the hard part, as recently they take several days to respond to texts or calls, and when they do, they contradict earlier promises. read more

We called after our skylights started leaking some. CHS came a few days after we called and did what they thought would fix this issue. Overall, this was a pleasant experience. After 2 months, the leaking returned so we called back. Before returning, CHS called to see what supplies they needed to buy to fix the leak. We had no idea what supplies were needed or even the source of the leak - i.e. why we called a handyman service. When we were unable to provide these details and asked them to come take a look before buying any supplies, we were told that made no sense because Lowe's was on the way to our home (we live less than 10 mins for a Lowe's). Once CHS arrived, we were told that skylights were dumb and that they try to avoid working on them and that we should close them because they would leak no matter what. This was the first time hearing this. The second experience left us feeling like we were in the wrong for not knowing how to fix the leak and an inconvenience. Would not recommend. read more

I found this "handyman" on Yelp and boy am I glad I did. The funny thing is that I had found another one who I called first. I never got a reply from that first one, even though his reviews were good. Well. Bill, with CHS, returned my call very promptly and even provided same day service. He was magnificent with his communication and very reliable. The job that they did for us (fixing our central air-conditioning canister and hanging it back on the garage wall WELL MOUNTED) was exactly what we needed. Made an apt for an estimate last week and he never showed up. Never called or text, not even the next day. No explanation whatsoever.

Worst customer service. The employee I spoke with acted like his time was too valuable to evaluate the situation in person and refused to listen, only talk over me. I had enough and hung up. He called me three times. He wanted to explain himself and backpedal from our first conversation by telling me it would cost me too much because he would have to pay an electrician, and that's too expensive. He just knows what will need to be done without seeing it and seeing it in person is a waste. I made it clear I was open to paying for a quote, he still refused to make an appointment. I made it known that I am in the facilities and maintenance industry and fully understand that trades don't often come out and do free assessments. I was expecting to pay for a quote to ensure we understood the full scope of work that I am requesting. He then said, " you should have told me what you did from the start. I looked at 4 estimates for repairing and painting my deck and dock to be fair and transparent. Unfortunately, this time it didn't work out as I'd hoped. Jeff's team at CHS repaired the deck in 2020 but we had to wait for the new planks to cure before painting. We were unable to get it done before the weather changed, so we revisited it this summer 2021. Jeff resubmitted a quote that was $1,000+ above their original estimate. I got 3 other quotes to compare. Of the estimates I received in 2021 for painting the deck ($2,500 w/materials; $1,425 w/materials; $1,200 w/o materials), CHS estimates from June 2020 to July 2021-- were 3 different offers ($3,300/$3764/$4337)--and the highest of all. While vacationing, I brought to Jeff's attention the new estimate for the same job and he never addressed my email concerning the rate increase above the original estimate. I take responsibility for deciding to move forward though I am disappointed in the quality and Statement of Work. I wanted the dock done and they were able to do it and I concluded our business by paying their price. I fired them from doing the deck; I do not recommend CHS as I no longer trust them. read more

Called on a Monday and spoke to Bill (CHS) about what I needed to be done. He gave me an appointment for Thursday at 9 am the same week. At 9.05 am on Thursday, I called to make sure he was coming because he was not in my house. At first, he claimed he has forgotten we had an appointment that morning and kept calling me the wrong name which pissed me off. Then, he suggested I give him till 10 am to come to my house, which I reluctantly agreed to. Less than 10 minutes after we hung up, he sent me a text message which states that his partner Jeff will be coming out to see me in 15 minutes. I then waited for Jeff to arrive. Jeff arrived promptly at my house. I showed him what I needed to be done, which is basically hang curtain rods on 12 windows. Jeff then told me that there was a miscommunication and that he was just there to give me a quote. But I've already been given a quote by Bill. Did he not tell Jeff what needs to be done? I was not certain whether Bill told Jeff what to do or not. But either way, that is too much BS for a potential customer to be dealing with. So, I asked him to leave so I can return back to work. I called another Handyman who came out the same day and did the job. So, Here's my evaluation of Bill: He is dishonest and unprofessional. Tell people what you can and cannot do upfront. These guys literally saved my life. We were selling our house and had to have some work done in the crawl space very last minute. I called at least 6 different contractors who told me they either wouldn't do that type of work or couldn't fit me in, and most of them I couldn't get a hold of anyone. These guys picked up right away when I called. They were out the next morning with and estimate--the buyers had a contractor come out as well and their estimate was almost 3 times as high! They also never got back to the buyers after giving the estimate.... so we went with these guys and they were awesome in so many ways. So friendly, and John worked his butt off under the house. Our crawl space was NOT the most pleasant place - it was incredibly small under there. They got the work done in about 4 days. Unreal. They finished an hour before we closed on the house. Bill talked through everything with me, and kept great communication. I was able to text or call him and he always responded. I cannot thank these guys enough.
