Ended up being $48. That's over the top pricing imo. Employees didn't even know the price. When picking up I had to wait 10 minutes for them to get a text message back from the owner. That was weird. Very inviting place. Colourful and cozy interior, friendly service. Took a bit longer than I expected for our sandwiches to be ready, but nothing unreasonable. I got the zippy grilled cheese, a peanut butter cookie sandwich, and a matcha latte. The grilled cheese and cookie sandwich were both great! The grilled cheese was super cheesy and the bread was fresh, plus I loved the peppers inside. The PB cookie sandwich with PB frosting between PB cookies is highly recommended if you are a peanut butter lover - very soft cookies, lots of peanut butter flavour. For me, the size of both the grilled cheese and cookie was just right. Wasn't crazy about the matcha. I saw their list of seasonal flavours and added a shot of the sugar free pumpkin cheesecake flavour which sounded interesting, but wasn't able to really taste the flavour or the matcha, just sweetener. I've been a loyal customer here for a couple of years, but it's likely that those days are over. My complaint is about their bakery items ONLY, and is two pronged. 1.) The sweet goods portions they're currently serving have shrunk. $2.50 for a brownie was always steep, but they were substantial and delicious. Now that the size has shrunk to about 2/3 the previous size, they are not worth that price to me. This is true of other items which used to be generous but have now shrunk. 2.) Freshness. When I pay a premium price for a treat, I expect it to not be stale. Maybe not fresh-baked, but not crumbling and dry. I assume that a business planning to please customers would realize that stale baked goods are a turn off. I received stale items two visits in a row, two weeks apart. I have never eaten from their food menu, and am not addressing that part of their business. read more

I visited Chroma Cafe last week when waiting for a bus to arrive. It was freezing cold outside and this warm little cafe had a sign outside. Chroma serves breakfast and lunch. TLDR: Of all the places I tried in Binghamton, this place had the best tasting pastries and food. I was craving some pastries while on my work trip, so I walked to this local bakery (about 10 min from my hotel). Inside, there was 2 casings with different assorted pastries, and people in the back cooking and baking more fresh foods. The cashier at the front was also very friendly and helpful when I asked for recommendations. I ordered their blueberry lemon scone, oatmeal cookie sandwich with buttermilk crème, chicken florentine panini, and a iced americano (which I ate throughout the whole day). Their oatmeal cookie was amazing - I ate it in 2 separate sittings to save it for as long as possible. The cookie itself was one of the best oatmeal cookies I've ever had, but the cream just made it divine. Their scone was good but honestly not too unique. The panini was also good with a lot of good spinach and cheesey flavors. I honestly wish I was able to eat it which it was hot to get the full experience. Finally, the americano had a Smokey and bold taste without being acidic (gave me Colombian roast vibes). Definitely not the best americano I've ever had, but not one I would throw away either (I enjoyed it while I drank it). All in all, I wish there was a bakery like this near where I lived, because I'm sad I don't have access to it's good foods. read more

Stopped in for a quick coffee and stayed for breakfast. The almond crossiants was so fresh and the almond paste was delicious. Also tried the spinach frittata and I must say it was out standing . Great little shop with an extensive selection of pastries and other goodies. My family and I came in early on a weekday, so there were no lines and plenty of room for the 5 of us (baby included). My grandmother-in-law is gluten intolerant, so Nancy, the owner, was incredibly accommodating, going out of her way to prepare something special. She served up a sandwich on freshly baked gluten-free bread along with a gluten-free coconut macaroon. I ordered the breakfast burrito, which comes with scrambled eggs, cheese, and your choice of ham, bacon, or house-made chicken sausage. Obviously I chose the chicken sausage, and I skipped the cheese and added sauteed spinach and roasted garlic avocado aioli. The burrito was delicious, the spinach and aioli gave it added moisture, and I found myself wanting another one. I'm impressed with the amount of menu items that are made from scratch, including dough, aioli, sausage, and so many other items. While the salsa that was provided with the burrito was not house-made, it served its purpose. High quality ingredients, yummy dishes, friendly staff. I highly recommend Chroma Cafe. read more

Nice crunch and a bit of heat. I did not pick _anything_ off! Must admit I said no to "free side Thursday" and added salt and vinegar chips at the cash register. Busy coffee shop, might be a little hard to get a table but there's a pretty good flow of people coming and going. The food was delicious, got the Cali sandwich and my friend got a Mac and cheese sandwich and the potatoes- everything was awesome. The portions aren't huge but a decent size. This place just isn't trying very hard. I know it's under new ownership, but the previous incarnation was lackluster, too. Today's disappointment was the Dutch Sugar Bread, which is supposed to be a sweet bread with cinnamon, and sometimes other spices. What we received was a soft bread reminiscent of challah (not a bad thing) with several unmixed lumps of granulated sugar at random locations within the loaf. No cinnamon in sight. One word OVERHYPED. This place is nothing too special I cam here a few months ago and got a fritata a burrito and some baked french toast. The pasta at the bottom of the fritata was burned and the French Toast was nothing special with melted caramel over it. The burrito was soggy and the cookies were nothing special. Here's how I see it - a small family owned bakeshop/cafe committed to FRESH homemade products and they do so happily! The Binghamton lunch scene would be sorely lacking if Chroma were not present. It's not big; it doesn't need to be. It's meant to be a place to grab a quick lunch or some pastries to take to the clan at the office. It isn't a leisurely dining experience. It IS clean, tidy and a valiant execution of glorious baked goods, including fresh breads and pastries galore. We were looking for a breakfast place while staying at the Doubletree on Water Street. This was a nice, easy walk from the hotel. They have a wide variety of baked goods here, and they make breakfast burritos and frittatas. Both are excellent. The amount of food here they sell as well as the quality is just awesome. The owner and her staff are very helpful. I think it was the owner. Youngish woman who was buzzing all over the place. They were all dressed as Rosie the Riveter for Halloween. This is my new favorite place in Binghamton for a quick bite. It's a tiny little space, perfect for having a quiet place to wake up your brain with a nice cup of tea and a chewy oatmeal raisin cookie. I had a breakfast panini that had beautifully thick cut bacon, a huge scrambled egg, and melty provolone cheese on it. I am pretty sure my heart swooned a little as I ate. The staff at this place is just amazing, they are very nice and personal. If you come in several times they try to get to remember all your names too! Very personable, and feels like a great atmosphere, it's family run and they all get along, imagine that :) The food is always fresh, and even the breads for the sandwiches are all made right there, amazingly nothing is ever stale because they move so much product everyday. FINALLY! The sweets are to die for in most instances, so so so good, especially combined with a cup of tea or coffee. This is definitely one of those hidden gems in Binghamton. As soon as I came inside, I was greeted by the cashier who aided me in choosing something to eat. She talked to me excitedly about the food and told me what had just come out of the oven. While I say down to wait for my panini, the worker continued to converse with me making me feel at home. My brothers and I checked out Chroma Cafe and Bakery yesterday for lunch. Unfortunately for us we hit it exactly during the lunch rush (12:30-ish) so the place was PACKED. Since all the tables were taken we took our food to go. I had a roasted veggie sandwich with jack cheese, roasted garlic avocado aioli and a bowl of tomato soup. The guys both had the ricotta and spinach empanadas. Chroma's new location is a lot bigger than where they used to be, and very clean and cute inside. If I went to Binghamton University I would definitely go there to hang out with my laptop and try the cupcakes.The service was fast and friendly considering how busy they were. The pastries and deserts looked fabulous and I'm definitely going back to try some. The bread was almost gone though, and I don't know if they bake twice so if I was going for bread I'd get there fairly early in the morning. As a life long vegetarian I'm pretty picky when it comes to roasted veggie sandwiches. I've eaten so many of them and they can be so gross if done wrong. I am happy to say that this roasted veggie sandwich was delicious! The vegetables were hot and still crisp, not soggy and the generous portion of aioli added spice and flavor (actually it was worth it just for the aioli! so yummy!). The sandwich was also huge and the bowl of soup I got was fairly large as well, definitely good size portions. For both the soup and sandwich I paid about $10, give or take some change. I feel like it was pretty reasonably priced for how much food I got and how good it was. The empanadas looked delicious as well and since I'm a huge fan of empanadas I'll definitely try them next time. What a cute little bakery situated in downtown Binghamton. I was in town for the holidays and and always on the lookout for places with gluten free options when I travel. Chroma is a sweet little place that serves breakfast and lunch and has a plethora of yummy looking baked goods. They offer a wide variety of soups, salads and sandwiches. They have someone who bakes gluten free bread and other goodies for them and brings it in to the bakery. I had a Cuban sandwich on gluten free focaccia bread (which I have not had since I've been gluten free so it was an awesome treat) and a gluten free buckeye brownie (with peanut butter). My mouth is watering right now thinking about that brownie. It was a Wednesday and I paid for the groups lunch so we got four free cookies (one for every $6 we spent). It doesn't apply to GF but my dining companions got a treat! There is a special like that every day. Chroma also posts their specials on Facebook every day so you can see what they have before you go. I will definitely be going back next time I'm in town! read more

So I was having a customer get together out of town and someone suggested Chroma Bakery. I looked at the menu and it looked great. So I called and talked to the owner. This was a great experience Nancy helped me out and we put together for our event. The day of my event she called me to set up the time for pick up or she could put them back into the refrig. Then the food came. It was OUT OF THIS WORLD! The Banh Mi and Cuban were one of a kind. I have never had a sandwich like these two before. The deserts were fresh and delicious. It is a must stop next time in town. The only thing I would change is to allow access to the menu on YELP. The outside may appear grilled and smell great, but one bite in, you'll be leaving the chicken on your plate hoping the handfuls of bread you have left will hold you over until dinner. Frittatas change daily, but today's asparagus and Swiss did not disappoint. Laden with pasta, and morsels of asparagus and onion, bound by light cheesy eggy goodness. French toast muffin was heavenly. So light and fluffy with ribbons of cinnamon.
