My sister brought us here one morning for some kolaches and donuts for breakfast. She was so excited about this place, and being a fellow yelper, has had many check-in's at Christy's. So, needless to say, when we arrived, I saw the donuts and kolaches through sparkling eyes! That is until I saw something move on the wall out of the corner of my eye.... As I was standing in front of the donut cases, my eyes were pulled in the direction of movement on the back wall... this ENORMOUS roach. I use this particular descriptive word because the distance between myself and the wall was at least 15ft. and though my eyes are not the best, the size of this insect was not lost to me. This place has is the best donut shop I have visited in Houston thus far and you will be able to tell by how packed the parking lot is during peak hours. I have been coming here for 8 years now and lucky me to now live only blocks away so I am here every Saturday morning for my kolache fix! I read on Movoto Blog's "29 Awesome Things to do in Houston" and was told that my life would change if I came here for the kolaches. Well, it was no life-altering establishment... BUT it was really cheap, open in the middle of the day, and I got a free glazed donut hole with the purchase of any donut. The jumbo sausage and cheese kolache was good, but not great. The smoked sausage kolache was delicious. They were, to my demise, out of boudin kolaches.... but I suspect those would have been the actual life-altering attraction. Pretty much the best place to get donuts and kolaches in town. After passing the place for years on my way to go bar hopping with friends, we decided to stop by this place on the way out of town early one morning. We were pleasantly surprised that everything we got was delicious. The donuts were light and fluffy; the kolaches were hot and delicious. I've made repeat visits multiple times throughout the last 3 years or so and am never disappointed. I used to grab coffee and kolaches for my boyfriend and take them to him at work in the morning since he worked over on Westheimer, but he got another job out of the city so I haven't been there since February. The only legit complaint I have would be that the tables are usually dirty from the people who eat there earlier. Not a huge deal but unlike some of the more scathing reviews here, I wouldn't call the place "filthy." I've only eaten in the place twice, so it's not a deal breaker for me. read more

STRAWBERRY DONUT IS THE BOMB DIGGITY. Excuse my excitement, but I have been to many a donut shop in my lifetime that I can positively say that Christy's has the best strawberry glaze on a donut. Mm-mm goodness! I love the donuts here. I admit, I was a Krispy Kreme donut girl when they used to be around and would only eat those...but with those disappearing off the face of the earth, I gave in to trying these goodies. I love the variety. My favorite is the old-fashioned cake donut with chocolate icing! One of the perks I always look forward to when getting donuts at Christy's are the couple of bonus donut holes they toss in. I love this place! It is a staple hole in the wall in Montrose, but it's very close to where I live so I frequent it all the time on the weekends for a quick, affordable breakfast. The bread they use for the biscuits and kolaches is so soft and fluffy, I just can't get enough! The sizes of the kolaches are very large compared to most donut chains. And they offer a ton of other stuff on the menu too- breakfast sandwiches (ham, sausage, egg, etc. all the combos!), breakfast tacos, donuts, pecan twists, cinnamon rolls...I always walk out with more than I should because everything looks and smells so good! There's no official line of who's next and the employees take customers' words on who is next. They have a variety of donuts, pastries, and kolaches to choose from along with juices and coffee. They are delicious! I had the strawberry turnover and let's just say that it made my Friday morning when I got into my office. If you're paying with a credit card, I believe they have a minimum dollar amount you must purchase before you can swipe your debit or credit card. I'm really not big on breakfast but this morning I woke up hungry craving Christy's Donuts. Just the thought of those flaky and buttery croissants lured me out of bed an extra 30 minutes early just so I could add this to my daily routine. Ok, so they're probably not the best croissants and kolaches in town and they're probably not made from the finest cuts of meat but this isn't exactly a gourmet food category either. For what it is, I think they serve some fine breakfast food, definitely worth a try! Can't go wrong with the jalapeno, sausage and cheese kolache or the sausage croissant. Negatives: I've never met Christy and I have a sneaking suspicion that she doesn't exist. Positives: Everything else. While many new doughnut joints are emphasizing new flavors that are hit-or-miss, Christy's wholeheartedly embraces simplicity. You won't find any pretentious flavors like New York cheesecake, Reese's Puffs, or foie gras topped with white truffle oil. What makes Christy's so great is that they've perfected the classic doughnut flavors. Before I discovered Christy's, I found plain glazed doughnuts as interesting as snow cones without syrup. Now I get one on every trip. At room temperature, Christy's doughnuts are some of the best you'll ever eat. When they're warm, they're some of the best baked goods you'll ever eat. The plain glazed, cinnamon roll, devil's food, old-fashioned, and plain cake are all highlights. Don't bother buying donut-holes because they'll always give you at least one for free with your order. And they're cheap. Ridiculously cheap. Christy's has a $4 minimum to use a credit card which will be difficult to reach unless you're buying for a group or are feeling especially decadent. These are the best doughnuts I've ever had and without a doubt the best doughnuts in the city. read more

I have two words to say about Christy's Donuts....Boudin Kolache!! These were incredible! I spent a number of years in Louisiana and believe I am qualified to judge Boudin. I returned the next day and purchased two for lunch. I also tried the bacon, egg and cheese and sausage, egg and cheese kolaches which were first rate. For me sweet tooth, I tried a chocolate eclair. I have to say one of the best I've had. Large, but not ridiculously large. Lots of creme and an icing that was not overly sweet, but very flavorful. The final reason that pushed me to 5 stars is the service. When I arrived on a Sunday morning, the parking lot was full and there was a significant line. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast the line moved. They have a great system. Several ladies tend the counter. One takes your order, gets you items and checks you out then rolls behind the other ladies and grabs the next customer. Its a rolling process that works great for them so don't pass it by if the line looks long. read more
