When I was hunting for garden centers in the area, this came up with great reviews and I decided to check it out. It was definitely better than expected. They had a really nice selection of both indoor and outdoor plants. I came looking specifically for hydrangeas, and they probably had 10 to 15 varieties available - some needing full sun and some needing partial. The gentleman that was working there was very friendly. I wanted two plants that looked similar to sit side-by-side by my front door. He helped me choose the variety, and two plants that looked the most similar. We ended up deciding on the candy apple variety by Monrovia. It needs full sun and should bloom through summer with blooms that will last till October. Once I paid, they carried the plants out to the car for me, laid plastic in my car and packed everything for me. I thought this was really a nice service. This is definitely more expensive than Home Depot, but they carry much nicer product with wider variety and better service. Especially if you're just looking for a couple plants, I would definitely come here instead. I asked about some fall perennial plants, and he recommended I come back after Halloween to check out what they'll have in season for winter. I will definitely be back.

Buying a Christmas tree in NYC can be hard! Most of the tree stands are so overpriced, but not this one! We were so happy to find out that this Christmas tree market was VERY reasonably priced for NYC, and in line with national averages. This is NYC people. Things here are always way more that that national average, but not at Tree Riders. What a nice experience it was nice to get a beautiful tree for a good price. We are very "particular" and often look at 5 - 6 trees, but we ended up buying the first tree Edward showed us. It has a great shape and Edward was able to tell us where the tree was from and they it was freshly cut. The tree smells great. On top of the crew that runs this business is local New Yorkers who are involved in that arts and the Saint Marks Church theater and artistic events. What a find. Will definitely be going back next year.

Ordering online was painless- pick your tree size, decorated or not decorated, delivery date and 3-hour delivery frame... then pay and await the arrival! I found a promo code online so there was a nice discount on our order- definitely do a quick Google search before paying to see if you can get a deal. The day before delivery we got a email reminding us to clear space and explain how delivery timing would work. The delivery guy called 10 minutes before he arrived. He brought the tree in already in the stand, plopped it down in our desired location, asked for a quarter-gallon of water so it could drink up, since it had a fresh cut, and that was that! Entry to exit he was in our apartment for maybe 5 minutes and super nice. The tree is very symmetrical and has a really straight, tapered trunk that's perfect for putting a star on. Plus it smells great :)

Well, this little Christmas Cottage did! Needed to buy the whole sha-bang for the small little island pine tree in my room & this place had it all. I kept finding things I didn't know the prices for & a gentleman named Joe was a BIG help. He was this gentleman who stood near the entrance of the door & whenever I had a question about anything, he had the answers to them. Bless him. I spent $76 dollars on lights, small silver ornaments, that came with a topper, white snowflake garment, classic white lights, and a special luggage ornament to represent my move here to New York this year. Left the store happy & went out to eat when I realized my special ornament wasn't in my bag! Good thing I checked when we were only half a mile away! So I called the place & they knew exactly what I forgot & told them I'd go over there & pick it up. I checked Yelp to see how late they were open till & then I saw a 10% off check-in coupon that my boyfriend failed to notice. Came back to the store a little upset that they forgot the most important piece of my first NY Christmas & showed them the 10% off. After being fussy, Danny, the man who rang us up, gave me some money back to honor the 10% check-in through Yelp. I felt so bad afterwards for being sassy with him. There are at least four price stickers along the row of identical folders. How much? Yup, you guessed it. So I go to check out; it rang up at $9.59. "No, I said. "It's $2.00 less. I supported my claim with a photo. The cashier, a nice person, called over a manager -- a real schmuck of a guy who was initially adamant about $9.59. I argued my case to which he said to the cashier, "charge her $7.99." "It's $7.59," I corrected. (Principle and ethics are important to me.) "We're doing you a courtesy," the clown bellowed. $7.99 A decent manager would say, "we need to change the signage to the new price, but since we didn't we'll honor $7.59." But this guy has zero customer relation skills and should be sweeping floors rather than dealing with shoppers. I'm giving Rainbow two stars, not one, because of their array of products. There's a store on 76th Street, perhaps not as well stocked, but very similar. That moving forward, will be my first stop. If you're the owner of Rainbow and reading this, train this weasel. They have two side-by-side store fronts. One is dedicated to succulents while the other is entirely for tropicals. While the plants aren't particularly inexpensive, they are gorgeous and healthy. One thing I did want to note was that I did feel like the staff hovered around me. This is completely understandable since I'm sure they've had issues with shoplifting. That being said, it was a little off putting and I did not enjoy being followed around the store. However, they have a super adorable shop cat which makes up for the hovering! I ended up purchasing an orchid, a crested cactus, and a haworthia and they are all thriving!
