I had walked by this place many times over the years but had never gone in. This year, I wanted to find some special ornaments for a close friend and I remembered this shop. I aim to support smaller and local businesses in New York whenever possible, especially these days, and it therefore seemed like a great choice. I planned to spend up to $200 if I found some exceptional and beautiful ornaments, perhaps pick up some things for family, and so on. I am a native New Yorker and would have thought I had seen the bottom of poor demeanors toward customers. I was wrong. From the moment I entered the store, I was trailed very closely by the person who stands at the door like a sentry. He fixed me with a stare that was at first odd but became annoying, and he followed me in extreme physical proximity when I had the temerity to enter a corner of the tiny store (to look at ornaments ...). My breaking point came when I was examining a box of "mini ornaments" and suddenly turned to ask whomever whether they came in a different color. This guy was so close that my shoulder actually bumped him. Suddenly, at this moment, I remembered: I am potentially giving this store my business ! I decided against this immediately. I will never return, and I will be sure to share my opinion widely. A postscript: The selection is "meh," mostly things that can be purchased elsewhere for far less and nothing unique or wonderful. As I browsed, I was at risk of settling for what they had in the offing. I was annoyed that this errand was not completed but it's far better that I left rather than purchase. There are other shops - Times Square ? Little Italy ? I heard the latter shop was wonderful. read more

5 stars for the service, 1 star off for the steep prices. Came here & bought stuff as a last resort because I went to 3 other Christmas stores & they didn't have what I was looking for. Well, this little Christmas Cottage did! Needed to buy the whole sha-bang for the small little island pine tree in my room & this place had it all. Everything was organized by color, which is the way I coordinate my closet so it was easy for me to find things. I kept finding things I didn't know the prices for & a gentleman named Joe was a BIG help. He was this gentleman who stood near the entrance of the door & whenever I had a question about anything, he had the answers to them. Bless him. I spent $76 dollars on lights, small silver ornaments, that came with a topper, white snowflake garment, classic white lights, and a special luggage ornament to represent my move here to New York this year. Left the store happy & went out to eat when I realized my special ornament wasn't in my bag! Good thing I checked when we were only half a mile away! So I called the place & they knew exactly what I forgot & told them I'd go over there & pick it up. I checked Yelp to see how late they were open till & then I saw a 10% off check-in coupon that my boyfriend failed to notice. Came back to the store a little upset that they forgot the most important piece of my first NY Christmas & showed them the 10% off. After being fussy, Danny, the man who rang us up, gave me some money back to honor the 10% check-in through Yelp. I felt so bad afterwards for being sassy with him. Based on the great reviews, I came in with high expectations. I came here expecting variety and affordability. This place DOES sell everything Christmas but they are very short on variety. If you are in search of a Souvenir to commemorate your time in New York, this is the place for you. If you are looking for very expensive ornaments, this is the place for you. I came in looking for milestone ornaments and an ornament for my pup. For the milestone i was looking for there were TWO ornaments to choose from. I ended up getting 3 ornaments out of sheer desperation and spent $47. read more

Wow. No recent reviews for this place for over a year and a half? Alright, well here's the update. The Christmas Cottage still rocks. In a city that makes it a little hard to shop for Xmas decor or fun tree tinsel (I guess that's what the suburbs are for) this place brings you home for the holidays, or any month out of the year for that matter. Yes, they're still open in June. Hand-crafted, crystal, silver red & gold, hand-painted, made-of-all-kinds-of-materials, beautiful ornaments. The Cottage IS mostly ornaments. There were also unique cards, New Year's gifts, tiny trees, magnets, stockings and other Christmas decor in the tiny shop. Lights hung from every which corner and ceiling hook. And it is tiny. With just a few customers in there you're bumping into children and backs of people. BTW, not a store for kids. There are way too many fragile items and way too many "please ask for assistance" ornaments. Most of the ornaments are $10 +, but as I was looking for a particular one, I found it, and it was still cheaper than the online price. The person working there was very friendly and talking up a storm with the other customers. He asked everyone if they were from around the area, or where they were visiting from. Go for a visit. It'll put you in a good mood, no matter the season. read more

I love Christmas shops and I love collecting ornaments from everywhere. We stumbled across this shop and after a full scan of the entire store chose an ornament that we thought reflected our visit to NYC. There were some other ornaments I liked but some of the prices were quite steep. The shop was clean, staff was helpful and we had fun searching for an ornament. read more

If you are looking for a novelty ornament as a gift...this is the place! Last year I bought a gorgeous Marilyn Monroe ornament for my husband from her movie "seven year itch" white dress blowing up. Also an Elvis Presley for another family member....they had him in his 50's garb and another one in his 70's. They have First Year for Baby, First Anniversary, crystal ornaments, designer ornaments etc etc...great little find in Midtown. read more

Way smaller than I imagined given its location. They did have a variety of prices for ornaments which was nice. I'd say $6 and beyond! Lots of ornaments to personalize, but not a very big selection of others. It seemed to be All ornaments in the store. read more

This place was nice. Everything is displayed perfectly. They have a pretty large selection as well. The only thing I didn't like was a worker following my every move. I'm not sure if they do this to everyone, or if it was just me. It made me very uncomfortable so I decided to cut my visit short and just purchase the few items that I had. read more

You can literally have Christmas in July at this place. Holiday items are sold all year long and no matter what's going on outside, going in here always puts you in the Holiday spirit. How incredibly cute to have a Christmas shop open in September!! Was an absolutely delight to find this place, on one of those nostalgic rainy nights no less. The atmosphere is decent, small and cozy with a nice green rug. But the ornaments (which comprise the vast majority of the store) have quite a few tacky ones among them. Lots of stupid characters and trite quotes. I don't remember many Olde World Christmas decorations like silver bells, crystal trees, or red and green globes. What an amazing store! Whether you are a tourist or a New Yorker you can find anything you need for the Christmas season. The selection of ornaments are fabulous and I could spend hours looking at them.. They have a large amount of stockings and New York ornaments personalized to take home and hang on your tree!! This Christmas shop is a New York STAPLE that has been around for 30 years and I visit it every year. Don't get deterred by the fake Christmas stores around this is a small and eclectic store that has charm like no other!! Excellent sellection of Christmas ornaments and decorations. Prices are reasonable and the service is good. And it's a open all year!

A little disappointing. Store hours are until 9:00 p.m on Saturday. We rushed to get there from dinner and arrived just past 8:45. As soon as we entered they locked the doors behind us and began vacuuming, and I mean thoroughly; over and over the entire time. Obviously, these guys wanted to close early. Barely enough time to choose something but we did. Scooted out before 9:00. Store selection is average. read more
