Having just moved across the country, I was in dire need of replenishing my plant collection. Noble plants has an incredible selection and was recommended to me by my broker. They have two side-by-side store fronts. One is dedicated to succulents while the other is entirely for tropicals. While the plants aren't particularly inexpensive, they are gorgeous and healthy. One thing I did want to note was that I did feel like the staff hovered around me. This is completely understandable since I'm sure they've had issues with shoplifting. That being said, it was a little off putting and I did not enjoy being followed around the store. However, they have a super adorable shop cat which makes up for the hovering! I ended up purchasing an orchid, a crested cactus, and a haworthia and they are all thriving! read more

I was in the Flower District last month to check out every shop on the block. I bookmarked this shop due to good reviews. They have a good selection. Although, nothing really called my name except for air plants. They had the most selection and best prices amongst all the shops there. It's my first air plant, so I want to see how I do with one before buying more. So that's all I got from them. I have to agree with everyone that the owner is extremely nice. Even though I spent just $5, he really took the time to advise me on the plant care, and engaged in conversation about what I researched on the internet. I used to go to this place since 2006 and purchased many plants (mostly Sarracenia Purpurea , purple looking new world insect eating pitcher plants and Venus fly traps) especially that year. I later purchased one plant at a time. And occasionally asked for special order plants and bought them. Sometimes it was plant supplies. Last fall 2023, I placed a special order for a plant asparagus fern. I was wondering why he didn't call me about that order. Went here in December after receiving damaged plants from the Sill. Picked up a healthy $20 zz plant (compared to $60 on the sill). I also talked to the owner, who was very helpful! He taught me how to water the plant properly & placing it by the window sill would be perfect. Ever since then it just keeps growing! My plant is so happy, it grew 9 new branches (crazy!!) If you find yourself in the same position as me, I highly recommend Noble Plants on West 28th Street. My partner and I spent close to an hour roaming the shop's wide array of options from 1 inch succulents to massive tropical plants. I ended up purchasing 3 plants and I am already eager to buy more! The owner, George, is extremely helpful and makes sure that you leave knowing exactly how to keep your new plant babies alive. Beautiful plants for great prices. I love how the storeowners are so attentive to both their plants and their customers. They try their best to be readily available, and I love their tips for caring for the plants as soon as you buy them. He explained to me: "the plants are only as good as you take care of them." I almost picked out a plant that was going bad, and they were quick to point it out. I don't think I've had a more pleasurable experience in any other plant store. Yes, it's rather small and not set up as a beautiful greenhouse. However, I feel that the product and customer service far outweighs the store's interior design. They set me up with plenty of options, clay potters and even sent me home with a tiny bag of free soil- sparing me the $5 bucks for a bag I don't need. I want so badly to love this place. The owner is so helpful and gives great care advice for each plant that you purchase. However, both plants that I purchased here had pests. After bringing them home, I discovered that the opuntia cactus had scale, and the dracaena had mealybugs. It's my fault for not inspecting the plants more closely before I brought them home, but it's something shoppers should be aware of. Luckily I still had both plants in quarantine when I discovered the pests, so the bugs didn't have a chance to spread to my other plants. But now I have to go through a pest control regimen to try and save these two, because they both are truly beautiful plants :( read more

While none of the shops seem all that different from one another in the plants they have to offer, I particularly like Noble because of the very sweet older couple that owns the store. Whether you're buying a large and expensive plant or a $4 succulent, the man will gladly take 15 minutes from his day to tell you about the plant and how he would care for it. read more

after failing to find the succulents i was looking for at home depot, yelp led me to this wonderful mom-and-pop shop. it's run by an elderly couple and although it's small, it's very well stocked. i definitely took my time to check out all the succulents and picked various plants for my terrarium. the elderly gentleman who helped me checked out did a great job packing up my purchase (4 small succulents) to make sure they get home safely with me. he also talked to me about how to care for them. he was very thorough and knowledgeable about his work. when i told him i was gonna make a terrarium, he was very vehemently against it, said it's bad for the plants and they will die. while this was going on, someone came in looking for a specific plant. he told her that's it's not in season now and he doesn't have it. however, he referred her to check out other stores in the area. wow! referring business to your competitors, who does that anyway? anyway, this place is wonderful, the elderly couple is awesome, i'll be back for more should my terrarium failed (or succeeded!). :-) read more

I was not only guided toward the appropriate plants for my apartment's light quality and my aesthetic, but also received detailed instructions on how to care for my new plant babies. I left with a large monstera, a medium sized mother-in-law's tongue, and a small pancake plant. Other stores in the flower district are quick to get you in and out and make a sale without taking the time to help or giving you the space to look for yourself to decide what you want. The owner, an older gentleman, is very nice and gives specific growing tips, which, if followed, will keep your plants alive for a long time. Noble has become my go to plant store for succulents, herbs, flowers, and any plant that isn't flowers that I'm giving to someone that following evening. All of the reviews and star ratings are on point for Noble - Chad is fantastic, he is there every single time I'm visited and all of his perennials / succulents that I've purchased, have done impeccably well. In fact, I've purchased succulents from Amazon/stores online, and those haven't faired as well as Chad/Noble's succulents. The store is in the flower district right on 28th, two aisles in a long rectangular fashion with plants up the wazoo! You really need to do a few rounds inside before you can capture everything within your view and even then, you'll miss some. I don't really care for this business too much. In fact I usually walk right past it to the other flower district stores. I find most plants In the flower district to only be healthy when they first arrive. Since the other stores have higher turn over rates, their plants are typically in much better shape. Also because of this, they tend to have more variety throughout the year. These stores are really just in the sales buisness. They're not gardeners and they certainly aren't horticulturalist's. Seeing as this store carried a lot of succulents, I first stopped in to ask about an echinopsis, which is a very common cactus, the owner was clueless and had absolutely no idea what that was yet when I looked around, it turned out that he had several varieties...typical I guess. I'm not saying don't shop here, I'm simply saying don't expect much more then the purchasing of plants and fairly polite owners. The best plants here are probably the echeverias, aloes, and other succulents as well as some of the citrus. All of which require high light or at the very least some direct "warming" sunlight. As for the low light plants, look for any without unsightly torn or blemished leaves, yellowing leaves, oddly spotted or stippled leaves, leafless sections of stems, and uhhh... cob webs? Hehehe One thing I do recommend when shopping in the flower district is to do so with headphones on until you actually want help. Lol. In most of these stores, the sales people are like desperate voltures and I dont know about you, but for me ,that's usually a red flag. read more

I don't review very often, but I absolutely love this place. I know absolutely nothing about plants except that they're purty. I walked in and basically described the room I wanted to put a plant in (bathroom: low light, high humidity; very low maintenance required, since I have a habit of killing things) and the shopkeeper showed me three or four plants that would work well. I picked my favorite and took it home for a GREAT price, and was given basic instructions on care. That was about six months ago -- the plant is still thriving! A first, for me. I've gone back for more, since then, and they all do really well. Bonus: just down the street from this place is Jamali Garden Supplies (http://www.yelp.com/biz/jamali-hardware-and-garden-supplies-new-york), the mecca of theater prop departments -- it has cheap cute-looking pots for wee little plants. I got a white ceramic pot and dish -- combined, the plant and its accessories were about $12 total. Not bad, given how much better my bathroom looks -- what a difference a plant makes. read more

I love everything about this store - I love how Ched teaches you about how to care for plants with full allegories and metaphors that relate back to the human condition. He doesn't even make you feel guilty about killing plants - he says it's not your fault if no one has ever taught you, and then proceeds to teach you. No joke! The plants I have bought there are thriving (cannot say the same for others). I have not killed a single plant since I began to follow what he taught me. This place is an absolute gem. Warm and fuzzy alert! The owners are a sweet, older married couple who always answer all of my questions with really enthusiastic and thorough explanations. I want them to adopt me as their grandkid. Their plants are in very good health and their prices are great too. If you don't really know what kind of plant you're looking for, just ask them and they'll definitely point you in the right direction. Note: They recently had to evacuate their regular storefront because of flooding problems, so they've temporarily set up shop across the street and down the block toward 7th Ave. They'll be at this temporary location until their landlord fixes up the regular space, which I assume will take at least a few weeks. read more

If you do not have the proper environment for the plant you are about to buy, they will take the time to educate you on the plants needs and help you find one that better works for your environment. They are more interested in assuring proper care for the plants they sale rather than making a quick buck. I really respect this about them. It's because of businesses like Noble Plants that I know so much about plant care. Plant prices are the best here. I recently bought a fern for $6. It doesn't get cheaper than that. At Noble Planta, ask them if they have an Echeveria Perle Von Nurnberg and they couldn't tell you. Show them a picture or describe the appearance of the plant and they will point you right to it. They have a great and healthy variety of succulents at affordable prices. After reading great reviews and getting a personal recommendation, I was excited to check out Noble Plants. I went today looking for a low light plant that would fit a 10" clay pot I already own. I started by asking the owner if he had any snake plants (low light) that would fit my pot. He didn't have anything that was the right size and seemed exasperated that I already had a pot. When he didn't suggest an alternative to the snake plant, I asked if I might be able to repot another plant I have in my pot. We never really got on the same page because he kept interrupting me. I guess he assumed he knew where I was going, but he ended up answering questions I wasn't trying to ask. At one point he told me I didn't need to repot the plant, which made no sense because he hadn't asked me any questions about it...and it definitely needs to be repotted since it's root bound. It felt like we were getting nowhere, but I wasn't ready to give up given their beautiful selection of plants in the shop. I redirected the conversation hoping that might lead to some progress. I asked if there was anything else that might work for the pot and low light situation. He showed me another plant, but looked like he had reservations. Soon it became clear that he thought the plant he was recommending would tolerate low light, but it wasn't ideal. He then berated me for wanting to put it five feet away from the window. At that point, I gave up. I found the whole experience incredibly confusing given that there are many apartments in NYC that have less than ideal amounts of light. Also, I can understand having strong opinions, but I don't think strong opinions should equal treating a customer who is seeking advice and hoping to make a purchase like an idiot. A lot of folks on Yelp wrote about how helpful and honest this owner is. Yes, he's honest. But, I'd also say he's abrasive, condescending and pretty rude. If you're looking for beautiful plants and helpful advice, look elsewhere. read more
