Don't buy from here. The bad reviews are very real. They will sell you plants and they will die. They will blame it on how you took care of the plants. They are also massively overpriced. I was actually on my way to lunch when I passed by the block of these plant shops. Ironically, I totally forgot I worked near all these shops. I was gonna have lunch then go search for succulent plants somewhere. This was not the first shop I saw. I actually went into every one of the shops leading up to Foliage Garden to check prices on what I needed. This was the cheapest place, and they had a good selection of what I wanted. They don't approach you to see if you need help, so you have to approach them. Once you do, they're pretty nice. I bought 5 varieties of mini succulents. The guy amazingly packed it only with tissue paper and a bag but in such a way that the plants didn't budge in the bag. Told me how to take care of them too. They also have a vast selection of orchids (quite pricey) and lots of other plants. They do close at 3:00, so don't think about coming here after work. But they open at 6 am. read more

Beautiful inventory, incompetent and rude staff. Save yourself the nightmare of dealing with these people who cannot keep track of orders, demean you when you ask any basic questions or don't know the name of plants they are talking to you about, and just make up prices as they go along. I placed a $1750 order, only to get a call at 8 am the next day that actually the bill is $2750 and "ooops" they messed up. No apology. No courtesy or explanation of any kind. When I tried to get more info on what's going on, just got crazy attitude and was told they wouldn't deliver half my order if I didn't cough up the extra cash on the spot. A third of my order delivered without saucers because "i didn't pay for them". But I did pay for the other 2/3? Neither listed on my order. When asked about it told "not our fault you're not familiar with THE process". Stay away from this place, and especially Leslie and Monique. Less beautiful stuff down the street, but also less of a scam and nightmare. read more

They may have beautiful plants on display, but it stops here. The cactus my girlfriend and I purchased was already dead until we realized it ten days later. The cactus showed signs of rot as the fungus grew from the root system. I had to take the cactus out to eventually find out that the bottom of the cactus was wounded on two locations right above the root system and hidden enough in the soil. No one would have noticed until the fungus spreads out and it was too late. Additionally, after speaking with an expert, the soil was a wrong mix and extremely moist in the center which means they had no clue how to grow a cactus. I highly recommend to double-check what you are doing before even doing business with this store. read more

Pretty Womaned at a Plant Store I have been into Foliage Garden only a handful of times and have always loved their inventory so try to make the trip on the weekends before they close at 2 pm. The last couple of times I have been in there the staff was pretty rude but, but I thought I'd try it out again since it had been a while and they get great plants in. My experience today left me speechless. After almost being pushed over by a woman who worked there that was frantically trying to get in front of me, I noticed two beautiful rarer plants sitting on a shelf in the back. I skeptically asked one of the sales people, who I had witnessed in previous times being pretty snappy, if they were for sale and how much they were. He was a bit more subdued this time which I appreciated and said yes and told me to ask the woman in the front for a price. I walked to the front with the two plants and just as I saw the woman I was supposed to ask she came over to me, took the plants right out of my hands and asked "do you know how much these cost?" I was stunned and replied that that was what I was going to ask her. She told me the prices and turned around to walk away with the plants. She then stopped and turned back to me and added a very condescending "you can buy them if you'd like but I just wanted to let you know" and then kept walking. This happened in front of a line of other customers waiting to pay. As I later went to leave the store I overheard her mocking me to another sales person behind the counter. The sad part about this is that I am pretty sure this is the woman who owns the store, as I have spoken to her a few times before about their greenhouse. Anyway, needless to say I will never go back in there. Oh, and plant people, three plants that I have bought from there (on separate occasions) had mealy bugs and spider mites that spread through my whole collection I am all for supporting small businesses and really love doing so but judging by my experience today and the many others I'm seeing on here that are similar, this is a business not worth supporting. read more

I've been wanting to purchase a orchid for my kitchen. I went online did a lot of research and found a couple that would go in my kitchen. I head over to 28 th street from queens. I start looking at all the stores stopped in a couple but the Orchids were bone dry so that was a little unsettling so I walk into Foliage Garden and it was packed with customers. I went through and looked at the Orchids and they were moist not wet or dry. I asked a few questions and got great recommendations from the young man that waited on me. He was also nice enough to report them for me. Im happy with the plants I bought and would definitely go back for more plants. read more

I have waited months to write this review because that's how long it has taken me to TRY and revive the 2 plants I bought from this place that were almost DOA when they arrived at my office. I was looking for some non-standard office plants that were pretty to look at and not require a lot of maintenance. I picked up a mini hydrangea which I thought was very interesting and so I proceeding to ask the guy at counter how this would do indoors in an office specifically. He gave me a very short answer that with light it would do fine. I asked about another plant that was sitting outside. Same type of generic and uninterested response. Fast forward to today and both plants have died after meticulous care. Also after doing some internet research turns out both plants are NOT office appropriate despite the clerk saying they were. And the one I found outdoors is actually an outdoor plant, not even close to being an office plant. Beautiful plants. Crappy service and apparently liars. How hard is it to take a few moments to listen to what your customer wants? read more

I'm giving them 2 stars only for the sole reason that they have great inventory and the Hispanic men in the shop are the nicest people there. They are respectful and are knowledgeable on all the plants I have asked about. The negative part of this place is the two women there. They are rude and their tone is condescending. I had been going to them since the first week of August and sometimes more than once a week. I bought a lot of plants from them for the past three months. I even started recommending the shop to my co-workers and we started going as a group to buy plants. When I started coming here I never really saw the women at the front of the shop, maybe once or twice. But in like the past 3 weeks I have been seeing them every time I go in. They always look angry or they're hovering over me when I look around. This past week, the woman in brown hair started yelling at us to not touch any plants because we would damage them, that our oils would be bad for the plant. We weren't even in the store for one minute. When I heard that, I was further into the store than my friends. But at that point when I heard her say it, I told my group that we should just leave and not give them our money. This is the second time she's done this to my friends. The first was to my friend when I wasn't in the shop with them. All of the plant shops I've gone to in Brooklyn, Manhattan, or Jersey City, not one has ever told me that. I treat all plants with care, but some plants have different textures that I want to examine more. We're not going to give our money to this shop anymore when we're not treated with kindness. I wouldn't expect to go into any plant store and be greeted by angry employees or owners. That drives away the customers. Myself and my 9 friends will be shopping at the other stores on the block which also have good inventory and better prices. read more

This place is incompetent, unprofessional and has horrible customer service. They would not make an appointment to see the space that needed landscaping, they kept delaying and canceling, finally they said just send pictures, which I did and then they showed up with the entirely wrong plants for the space, said they were coming back be following day and did not show up. When I called, they said there would be an additional cost of $900. read more

They have beautiful flowers, but customer service and accountability are foreign concepts to them. On 2 seperate occasions I bought orchid arrangements for over $250 each. Both of them died within 2 weeks. One had been exposed to below freezing temperatures during delivery on their truck, one had the roots cut when they planted the flowers in the pot. I know orchids and I know how to care for them. When I asked for a refund or a replacement, I was informed very rudely that they had no responsibilty. I talked to a manager, but to no avail. I will never buy anything from that those rude, irresponsible and obnoxious people again. Beware when you shop there. read more

Agree with Buyer Beware reviews. I bought a pricey Olive tree from this place and 2 days later hundreds of leaves were on the floor, the branches turned brown in my apartment (which has great sunlight and windows.) It was clearly dead despite following the placement and watering instructions of Foliage Garden. We called in to let Foliage Garden know and they said "stick with it. It's a strong tree, it will be fine." A week later when the tree had almost no leaves and was just making a mess in the apartment and was clearly dead, we called again and Foliage Garden agreed it was dead and asked us to pick another tree to replace it. Makes sense - good business practice to replace a tree that died 2 days later. After a bit of back and forth over a few days with calls and emails to find the right replacement tree, we agreed on a nice albeit cheaper Ficus tree and I thought all was well. When I contacted them to find out when they were delivering the new tree, they said they needed $250 more dollars for this new tree. Over all our replacement conversations, me needing to pay more money to replace the dead tree never came up and it was just unethical to ask for more money for a cheaper tree after I had paid $650 for the dead olive tree. When I asked the owner why he was charging me again he said "I didn't call soon enough to report the dead tree" but that was a total lie. We called within a few days and they told us to "stick with it." It's a shame that people run their businesses this way in the age of word of mouth and social media. Don't buy your plants or trees here. They will surely die and when they do the company won't take any responsibility for their poor products. read more

By far the most beautiful and well merchandised store in the flower district. They have gorgeous plants and a large selection to choose from including at times some very exotic species and hybrids . The plants offered are of an astonishing variety of colors, textures, growth habits, leaf and flower forms. They also carry some of greatest varieties of orchids on the block although availability varies. The sales people leave one to browse around in peace and have been all the same people for years which I take as a sign that they treat their employees quite well. I would give this place five stars if it weren't for their exuberant prices. read more

Foliage Garden saved the day! I had to find a live kumquat tree fast, and after calling half a dozen plant shops in the flower district with no success, I was eventually referred to Foliage Garden. Not only did they have a kumquat tree (three, in fact, and all were fruitful and healthy), everyone in the shop was exceedingly friendly, they let me take my time and decide which tree I wanted, and then wrapped it up for me quickly and perfectly. The man who was helping me even set up my dolly for me and tied the tree down to it with a darling ribbon! I would recommend Foliage Garden to anyone looking for plants and flowers, and I can't wait to go back and pick out some lovelies for myself. The tree was a little pricy, but you get what you pay for, and the quality is excellent. A+! read more

as a professional florist, I highly recommend Foliage Garden. I have used their plants for many years in both outside seasonal deck planters and in large charity event fund raisers. They are the only store on the block that has their own greenhouse on Long Island, and have a great inventory of exotic trees and plants. Innovators of design, Foliage a Garden sets trends on new ways to display orchids with succulents and bromeliads that are emulated throughout the flower district. My very chic upper East Side clients always call in awe of the beauty that Foliage Garden creates for me. The store displays always make me wish I had endless room at home to create a tropical jungle, but I settle for a couple of their great orchids, fabulous ferns, hanging pitcher plants, and a few amazing succulents. read more

We received outstanding service from Foliage Garden - they were really friendly and helped us choose the right indoor plant for our apartment. We had price-checked options with other stores on the street, and decided their price was comparable and went with them. No big deal. Then we needed a pot: they recommended a nearby pot store and offered (unprompted) to deliver our plant and whichever pot we bought that day. So, rather than carry a pot around with us all day, we bought a pot from a nearby store and took it back to Foliage Garden and they delivered it with our plant. And not only that, despite it being a really busy day for these guys (Valentine's Day!), when the plant was delivered they'd fully potted our plant into our pot (purchased elsewhere!) with a gorgeous moss topping. That's what I call customer service. read more

Buyer beware. Purchased an orchid plant that lost all blossoms within a week. This was the second plant purchased - the first did only marginally better but thought it was possibly just a fluke and tried again. When taking this 2nd one back to the store I was told that orchids might do that -might lose all the blossoms so quickly. I have had dozens of orchids over the years and they can easily last for months. Also he claims it had bugs - mites- that caused the blossoms to fall off. It had to have come from this store with the mites. Should you decide to purchase here be sure to thoroughly check for bugs. In the end the store offered nothing but a $5 discount towards another purchase. I think not. Left the infected plant at the store. read more

Probably one of the priciest plant vendors on the block, but these guys also have a wider, more "exotic" array of plant choices.
