I can't say enough good things about Botanica Garden Center! The staff was so knowledgable about plants, so generous with their time and assistance. They recommended a money tree (non toxic to cats ) which I wouldn't have thought of and I love! They potted the plant in a beautiful holder I purchased (and love) and delivered it for $10. I visited this shop for the first time to pick up a new plant for my bedroom. The gentleman working there helped me by recommending a few selections, albeit the selections were limited. I decided on a small snake plant and a clay plant saucer, which he indicated would be twenty dollars and some change. He even showed me the price input on the cash register. After I made the purchase on my card, I later realized that he had charged me a much higher price than what he showed me originally. It could have been a mistake, but it seems more like a sleazy move to get more $$ if you ask me. I will be going back to the shop tomorrow to request a refund and return the plant completely. There are plenty of other plant shops that have larger + healthier-looking selections and more honest service than this shop. read more

About two years ago my boyfriend bought me an anthurium from here as a gift. I thought I was horrible with plants but this thing has grown beautifully and is blossoming. Occasionally I stop by and see the selection and look around. Two weeks ago I actually purchased a calathea plant from here (fingers crossed). The owner was very nice to me and a few other customers who were shopping around. He answered all of our questions and was very knowledgeable. He suggested that I repot my anthurium, and recommended which's pots and soil to use. I would say shop around before stopping here. I am glad I did because the prices are a little high. I purchased a plant pot from another nursery which cost me $25 bucks, at Botanica the same pot was priced at $40. read more

I have bought quite a few plants at this store totaling at almost a grand.. the last plant I bought was overpriced at almost $300 but was beautiful and I decided to splurge .. . they delivered and potted it for me. unfortunately after a few days I realized that the huge plant they delivered to me was infested with millipedes .. I am talking 100's maybe thousands. when I went to the store all they could tell me is that nothing they sell is under any sort of guarantee, and that I am pretty much screwed. even though I just bought this plant a few days before - if this was my first purchase at this store I would be a bit calmer - but being that I spent a lot of money there I was expecting them to at least deal with the major problem they created and delivered to me.. I will not buy there again and will try to warn people from doing the same. horrible experience. be careful. read more

I bought a large yucca tree here & they potted it for me. It slowly began to die & I had to dispose of it less than a year later. Throughout its decline, I went back to the shop twice w/ pictures on my phone to ask for advice on my dying tree. Both times I was given a very dismissive answer by the owner/manger. He didn't care to look at the pictures I took. After doing some more extensive research, it turns out the yucca was potted incorrectly; wrong sort of soil & unable to drain properly. read more

Is anyone else totally obsessed with succulent plants? Lately, any time I see a farmers market or garden center I am checking out their selection of succulents. So glad I stumbled across the Botanica Garden Center. This shop is small in size but mighty in variety. Prices per plant were on par with what I've seen at the Union Square Market or Home Depot but it was the staff that really stood out. The fellas at BGC really knew what they were talking about and you just don't get that same attention when you visit one of those box chains (read: shop local!) Cute store! I have a decently black thumb but the spider and pothos plants I purchased here years ago are still thriving and have multiplied (even though I took them to the brink of death). Buy local? Yes we can! My succulent arrangement (Succy 1.0) met its untimely death as we moved cross country this horrific winter. Now that NY is warming up, I'm ready to create Succy 2.0. I like doing my own mix arrangement and was glad to see Botanica has a great selection of succulents in all sizes, starting at super cute mini 2in pots. The plants here all seem healthy - tough to do since it has been a stinking hot week! there were all sorts of arrangement inspirations for me to draw from in the store. A really great curation of seasonally relevant plants. The staff is very knowledgable and we had a great chat about green stuff :) It ain't big box store/ wholesale market cheap, but certainly not out of control prices either. Atlantic Ave is a huge street and so many cars that Botanica is a nice little green hideaway. The guy at the counter was not very knowledgeable but another guy who seemed more like an owner or at least a veteran of the store did know a lot more and was helpful. Sadly, they did not have the product I wanted. They do have a nice selection though of organic items and it has a large backyard full of succulents, shrubs and plants. Not many flowers. The Hispanic staff were extremely friendly and gave me tips on how to revive my succulent plants. Why the 1 star? The old man (maybe the owner) is a racist. Didn't say a word to me while me ringing up. Looked at me as if I was scum he found on his shoes. When leaving the premise he shouted "ni hao". After realising I should not pay a racist I went back to get my refund. I told him the owner he cannot treat me like that and he had the audacity to pretend he never served me because there were other customers in the store. read more

I was very much looking forward to visiting this boutique and possibly snagging some amazing succulents. Upon arrival I was very disappointed. Most succulents were poor quality, damaged and had leaves fallen off. They were all severely over priced for the quality. $5.99 for the smallest 2 inch succulent. The largest were $14.99 and had 5+ leaves fallen off. High prices and low quality. The staff did not help me at all and stood around talking with each other instead of helping customers. After visiting a few nurseries/flower shops around Brooklyn, I was excited to see if this place would top any of the other places. I was hoping to find some either mid sized succulents or indoor house plants. They definitely have a good variety of plants, just not exactly what I was looking for. Their succulents selection were mostly all mini and too small for my liking. As for the house plants, I found a few but the price didn't beat other places. I did have a mini cactus that fell out of its clay pot, which ended up breaking. So I had to revive it somehow with new soil and plant it back in a pot. The worker was nice enough to take care of it for me and I only had to pay $4 for the new pot. I have gone to another store where they would have charge to repot a plant, so the service is really good here. read more

We went there a couple of weeks ago and asked about a low maintenance plant that could thrive in medium luminosity. The owner recommended a Japanese peace lily which, while being fairly easy to maintain, is very dramatic and starts drooping as soon as it needs water. The owner had given us care instructions which turned out to be ridiculously inaccurate. We thought it was dying, and we were making things worse by following his advice. On top of that, he charged us to pot the plant on location and did a terrible job ; blocking the plant's draining hole and giving us a terracotta pot which it turns out dries out the soil -- this is a plant that likes moist soil! The plant is fine as we caught on early, but we paid way too much money for just terrible advice and service. Don't bother with them. read more

I've been coming here regularly and have bought many plants here for the past year since moving to the neighborhood. I have always loved this shop. Last week I bought an ivy here and within two days it was drying up. After 4 days it had an overwhelming spider mite infestation. I inspected all of my plants and didnt see any signs of mites on other plants. I am almost positive that they came from the store. I went and looked at the other ivys that were next to mine in the store and one looked like it had signs of mites although I did not see any actual mites on the plant. I went back today and even though they have a very strict no refunds policy, they did bend the rules for me and refund the plant. I have always had the sweetest interactions with the people who run this shop but this time they were defensive even though the situation was pretty clearly their fault. I just hope the rest of my plants don't get infested now!!! I'm so sad to say it because I've always loved this store and the plants always look so healthy here, but after this I will not go back. read more

YOU HAVE TO COME HERE! In Park Slope we don't have many options for garden & plant businesses and the ones that are around are far more limited. Botanica Garden Center not only has great customer service but SO much variety of plants you will honestly have a hard time choosing what to take home. We spent a good hour there just to figure out what else to take home other then the initial plant we came for. Beautiful direct sun plants, yearly plants, indoor plants, large outdoor space plants, air plants, cactus of all sorts, flowers, and more. Great and easy location too. Just go there. read more

I bought 2 identical plant pots here, and one of them cracked. I called to see if I can buy the exact same pot (to match the unbroken one) and they were completely incompetent and useless. Go to Chelsea Garden Center in Red Hook - much more helpful, competent staff, wider selection, and better prices! I told them I can send them pictures and dimensions of the pot so that they can check their inventory to see if they had it (and save me a trip to the store). They claimed they could not receive any pictures from me because they have no computer, no access to the internet, and no one in the store has a smartphone (really?! How do you run a business in 2018 without internet access?!). I then physically went there to show them the pictures - they did not have it in stock, so I asked them who their supplier was (again I was trying to get the exact same pot to match the one I already have). He had no clue, only the owner knows. "Ok, so when can I speak with the owner?" He had no idea when he/she would next be there, and could not give me an email or number. I have never seen a business so actively try to stop customers from buying stuff from them! Terrible. read more

Great neighborhood flower shop. Much more reasonable prices than other spots in the neighborhood, a good selection, and helpful service. Botanica has a great selection of plants year round and I've gotten some beauties here. I love stopping to pick up a plant or two or just to window shop. The staff are helpful, and just the right amount of chatty/friendly. The prices do seem a little high though - I always feel like they should be charging about 20% less. One of the best nurseries in Brooklyn! I came here looking for some hanging plants as well as some succulents. The prices are a little on the high side but the service and quality of the plants were top-notch. The older gentleman helped and guided me the entire time i was there, showing me the selection they had and also gave me suggestions on how to create the wall garden I've always dreamed of. He was very thorough with the care instructions for each plant I purchased and was very informative/knowledgeable. Good variety of plants, albeit a bit pricey, and mostly helpful staff-- very sweet and knowledgeable Hispanic man helped us pick out great plants. People here are nice but things are extremely over priced. For example, a mini cactus that could be found at many other places for $5 they sell it for $7.50. A little bigger ones they sell it for about $14 when other places have $10. As well as the succulent plants. Also, the plants here aren't taken care of good enough. There are more damage seen on the plants than any other stores I've been to. read more
