Gardel's Garden - Impatient flats - Nurseries & Gardening Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Best neighborhood plant shop. Perfect for flowers and soil and plant knowledge! Protect this place at all costs!

Gardel's the best! Every time I visit him, I learn something new. He is so helpful and knowledgeable. I recently hired him to replace a dead maple tree with a dogwood tree on our terrace, and he did a phenomenal job. He really cares about plants, and it shows. I was searching for the perfect tree replacement (also tree/material delivery and planting/discarding tree services) for months, and I am so glad I went with him. read more

I've stopped in here a few times for quick gardening needs. The lady who works there/owns it? isn't quick to help but is friendly once you get her attention. Aesthetically though, I love passing through this place : ) so much greenery in a corner in Brooklyn. read more

I caught Gardel closing up and heading to dinner. He still took the time to give me the utmost customer service by providing me dirt, a garden tour, planting advice, and a hug. He didn't know that I had not interacted with people in the past few days and his hug replanted me back into the human network. Thank you read more

A true neighborhood garden shop. Kind of like stepping back fifty years when gardening was a weekend pasttime & hobby rather than a lifestyle statement. Skip the cut flowers and go for the gardening advice. This isn't the sort of place that sells Votivo candles next to their Pitcher Plants; instead, you'll learn how to resuscitate a dying bougainvilla or how to properly transfer your plant into a larger pot. It's perfect for beginner & expert gardeners. They know their stuff - plus, they're willing to cut deals on certain items. read more

Gardel's Garden - A plant flourishing from Gardel Garden's advice - Nurseries & Gardening Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I've known Gardel for a number of years. He's a gentle spirit who has extensive knowledge of all things that grow in a garden. If you tell him what you're looking for or have ideas on enhancing your garden space, he's the go-to guy. His assistant Jackie is excellent and such a people person, it's just nice to stop in and chat, but it doesn't take much to walk out with something floral or plant like. Always receptive, always helpful. read more

I've bought my Christmas tree here most every year I've lived in Brooklyn, and it's worth the subway ride every time. The folks who run this tree stand are impossibly kind and helpful, and we always end up with a gorgeous tree that lasts forever. Couldn't imagine going anywhere else at this point. read more

I love this spot! A magical place where I buy my Christmas mini tree every year- the people that work there are incredibly friendly, funny, and shared a story about the original Christmas tree being a living thing brought inside to help during the dark days when everything is dead- the story really helped my brother get over his indecision about choosing a tree. And they helped tie a tree to the top of my car, something I never knew was possible! read more

I bought my first plants here and Jackie was so so helpful! She expertly explained how to take care of them. Great quality/value. I'm looking forward to returning and adding more greenery to my apt. I walked by the place in summer and was wide-eyed at how much gorgeous selection there is. It's a fantastic neighborhood spot. Support this local business!! read more

I was really excited to come to this garden to look for plants for my home after passing by it so many times. I brought a friend with me and started chatting up the owner, asking for advice about plants right for my home. He was very rude to me. Sarcastic, biting and spiky responses to all my questions. I thought I must have been imagining it or that it was just his sarcastic sense of humor but later my friend confirmed "he's such an a**hole to you" so we just left. I couldn't figure out what I had done wrong. She thinks he was trying to impress a woman that was nearby- idk about that, I don't know if it's fruitful to try to guess his motives for being a d*ck. Honestly guys I never really write reviews but that interaction left me feeling yucky. I'm not going back or giving him my business at all. read more

Gardel's Garden is a staple in Fort Greene. You can find everything you need for your garden or house plants at Gardel's!

This isn't the closest nursery to me but the best one. I discovered this on Yelp and have been bicycling over to pick up some interesting plants and flowers. If you are a morning person like me the nursery often doesn't open it's posted hours. Gardel is better with plants than punctuality. Lol read more

Who wouldn't want a gardening shop in the neighborhood? With a visiting kitty who loves being petted and is very soft? Gardel's Garden has a really strong selection plants for indoor gardeners. More importantly, they won't sell you a plant that won't thrive in your home. In fact, I've been dissuaded from from moving towards several beauties that need different light than my apartment affords--I think this is both helpful and excellent salesmanship. Because I could have spent some serious coin on plant friends whom I would have eventually killed. This didn't happen. Is that good business? I think so. I also think it's about being a small, local shop that is your neighbor, and not Home Depot. Gardel and his team work with indoor gardeners to pinpoint and achieve #plantgoals. In fact, they're kinda like plant therapists. Each time i visit, I notice people pulling up plant pix on their phones and sharing them with the staff--in order to solve issues or just for a bit of showing off. Either way, it's this personalized, caring and knowledgable vibe that I come back for, time and time again. Rest assured: these folks are very chill about their expertise, so for those of you who have yet to fully develop your green thumbs, there's no need to feel embarrassed or sensitive. It's no big deal asking them lots of questions or sharing your #plantfears. They. Got. You. Covered. For Real. Another feature of this spot is their popping outdoor plantings section. Loads of lovely offerings here for those of you who planter-hard, come spring. And there's a robust selection of edible seedlings on hand, too. Want to grow your own salad herbs? Done. Your own micro greens? Done. The classic #goal: tomatoes? Done. Also on hand are basic gardening supplies including: several types of soil (for edibles; for cactii; for indoor plants, etc); pots; plant food; etc. This is your year to grow things, you guys! Get yourself over to Gardel's and get that going! read more

This nursery is awesome. Just around the corner from my apt so location is ideal. I went here the other day to pick up a pretty plant and wasn't disappointed. The woman helping me was very personable, friendly, and helpful. She told me what was needed for light and waterings and found a great ceramic plate that matched the pot perfectly. Overall I'm really happy with my purchase and the service here. I'll be back for more pretty plants and helpful tips! read more

Gardel's Garden - Love my plant! - Nurseries & Gardening Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

This is by far my favorite nuraery. I've been patronizing this wonderful nursery for years. The selection is amazing and.vast. The plants are always beautiful and healthy. They come in all stages and cater to all needs. The woman there during weekdays, midday, is a sweet, personable, array of knowledge. I frequent this place a lot. I am placing plants throughout my fairly new home and it feels super healthy and beautiful read more

My husband and I wanted to get our first Christmas tree a few years ago. They were being sold every ten feet here but we weren't thrilled about the prices or service. We came across Gardel's Garden not realizing it was an actual store - it was late and dark and I don't think there was a sign up or it wasn't lit. The owner showed us a few trees. He was so incredibly nice and helpful. We were so happy with our tree. We've been back every Christmas since and plan on continuing as long as we are in the neighborhood. Maybe I need to start working on turning my black thumb green so I can enjoy this place more than once a year. read more

Wonderful place, my roommate and I happened upon this place and the lady at the counter was so impossibly nice and helpful. Prices were pretty fair and the plants were very healthy looking. I'm really amazed at how healthy they looked; there were hardly any chewed up leaves or anything. There was a good selection of cactuses and succulents. They had some outdoor bushes and things in the back and leafy medium sized plants of all sorts of varieties. They also had larger leafy plants and tree type plants. They really had everything. Most unique selection I've seen around here read more

Gardel and his team are knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous. They did a BEAUTIFUL job potting my houseplants based on their knowledge of the needs of the various species. And they turned them around in less than 24 hours! Amazing! They are also always willing to share their advice and tips, no matter how "silly" the question. Prices are very fair and better than other locations nearby. I also love that they will be totally honest about what will thrive in your home, even if it means they won't make a sale. That is good business right there!! Will continue coming here for a long time!! read more

I had the pleasure of buying my first Christmas tree here! The owner is such a sweet and cheery person. He hand picked the most beautiful tree for me, which I loved. My boyfriend and I were forced to leave this store on the afternoon of 7/9/16 after the clerk (maybe the proprietor) reprimanded us for exchanging a quick kiss while shopping for plants. He said something along the lines of "I don't want to see that in here" after yelling to get our attention from behind the counter. We were both too surprised to do much more than turn around and leave. We never expected that kind of treatment in a flower shop in the middle of Brooklyn. What's clear is that this is not a gay friendly establishment, and prospective patrons should take that into account. read more

Update: after having to pick off dozens of caterpillars, many of them quite small, off of my plants for the past month or so and having virtually no intact blooms, I'm tossing my petunias from Gardel's.
