I never give negative reviews for local businesses, but this will be an exception…read more I first went to this business three months ago, and had a great experience. I called in today as a return customer and scheduled an appointment at 10am, for a 2PM slot. I arrived early and the woman who I scheduled an appointment with let somebody else in the chair before me, which I figured was fine since my appointment wasn't for another 15 minutes. That haircut went until 245, when she said, "just give me a minute you'll be next," and then let another woman into the chair. Assuming that she could he running behind schedule and that this person may have been scheduled earlier than me, I waited an additional 30 minutes for her to be finished, and a third person, I assume a friend of hers sat in the chair and began getting helped. In addition, when I arrived, a woman who was getting her hair done mustve had a lot of product in her hair, which the hairdresser did not wash out before straightenting it, which resulted in a thick smoke filling the room. Multiple customers were coughing, and an employee put on a mask, but they did not let the door open, and the product-smoke remained in the room for another 45 minutes. A real shame, as I planned on coming back regularly. Will not be returning now.

Sadly, she then passed me over to her coworker. My instructions were clear- in both English and Spanish. Do not touch the length, a little bit of an undercut above the ears from the temple to the ear, trim the layers and clean up the neck near the occipital bone. I showed her 3 photos from the front, side and back. It was New Year's eve and I went home in tears. I literally stopped her and got out of the chair before she was finished. I wanted a bob and I got a fade. She went at the back of my head with an electric razor and a number 2 blade. She never once used a scissor and ignored everything I said. For $35 I got a choppy, uneven mess that is impossible to style and I woke up looking like a Q-tip had an affair with a mushroom. Went back to my regular stylist and she "fixed it" as best she could, reasuring me that my hair would grow back by Spring. Stay away or get a hat.

Unfortunately on our recent visit, our stylist burned my daughter's forehead pretty badly. My daughter nearly jumped out the chair as the flat iron rested on her head. Later she was crying with ice on her head saying she wouldn't be able to school. We returned the next day to show our stylist what had happened. She smiled & said if my daughter would have told her how much it hurt she would have applied Hydrocortisone cream right away. But now it was too late. She didn't even offer any refund for the damage. Even though we had to spend more than the price of the hair on shea butter & scar cream.

However, the hair dresser that day, cut my hair extremely uneven. I knew from that experience that Dominican salons are not savvy when it comes to African American short hair. I google "black salons near me" and found Nik's Beauty Studio which was the closest. I arrived early this morning & did not have to wait long before for Nik's assistant to wash my hair. I didn't know this salon was by "appointment only" after clarification from Nik. Nik even noticed how badly my hair was trimmed. I asked her to fixed it any way possible. Once it was done, I was pleasantly surprised. I had a beautiful pixie hairstyle which is my first , I never had my this short ever. I will be definitely going back. She is indeed talented!!

I stopped by Nik's salon last week because I wanted to desperately cut my hair over again. I made…read morean appointment for 12:30 and I was exactly on time. When I got in, I wasn't exactly sure who Nik was. She was actually in the back of the salon washing the hair of a client. She said hi to me and told me to take my jacket off and sit down. She asked me, while tending to her other client what style did I have in mind. I did show her the picture of the style I wanted. When she finished with her client, I think she spoke to me after as I sat in her chair. Before I knew it, she immediately picked up the tub of Affirm relaxer. I relaxed my hair a week before but it did not take. She asked me when I relaxed it and I told her when. She said to me that she couldn't do much with my hair because of it. I understood that but she made a few comments about me relaxing my hair myself. I usually do so and it takes but that time it did not. She proceeded to cut my hair because I said so and took me to the sink. The way she washed my hair was very aggressive. I've never had someone scrub my hair in such an aggressive way. It was almost unnecessary. The water from the sink kept splashing on me as well. She molded and wrapped my hair and took me to the dryer. During the time under the dryer, she didn't check on my hair much. She also told me in a slightly disrespectful way to keep my head under the dryer. It was burning quite a bit especially on my ears. There were a few things that she did that I found pretty offensive. She addressed me as "baby." I'm not the biggest fan of women calling me pet names especially when I am a grown woman around the same age as you. It's very disrespectful and sets me off. She did it over and over again, I doubt she knew what my name was. She did not ask me once any time during my service. Another thing that she did which was rude was her use of the N word. Her TV channel was playing the show Love & Hip Hop. She looked up to watch it and said "I wish a n*gga would cheat on me like that I would f*ck him up." Now look, I don't particularly care for the cursing when you're around loved ones, but your salon is a professional establishment or so I assume. The cursing was a turn off. Mind you, this is my first visit at her salon so you can understand why it didn't make for a good first impression with me. When I got into her chair once again, she finished cutting my hair. She grabbed my hair a few times and kept cutting. She cut a lot of my hair off. The cut was okay but I didn't want so much hair to be cut. When it came time to styling, I could feel her inexperience in each curl. She burned me numerous times. She's not very good at curling, so when she curls the back, you will be burned on the scalp. I am sure it's worse when you have a fresh relaxer. She did not use a marcel iron. She used a mini wand I believe. I almost wanted to jump out because I couldn't take the burns anymore. No other stylist has burned me like she did. It was like she didn't care. That alone was enough for me not to come back. At the end of the styling, the style was nice but it was not what I showed her in the picture. It was entirely different. The hair she cut off was all over me. I tried to push it on the floor and she looked me up and down because I was dusting myself off. She didn't really seem to take to me and her attitude became a bit off putting. I let her keep the entire $100 just because. She gave me a shower cap because it was pouring outside. Would I come back? No. Angie is down the street and my regular go to. She also does a great job and has a more pleasant attitude. I think the salon looks okay. The cut was okay and the style was fine but too many stylists are experienced and have slightly better attitudes.

her Old salon in bensonhurst: http://www.yelp.com/biz/punk-style-brooklyn…read more The first time I went with Lora was when she had the "Punk Style" salon in bensonhurst. I didnt ask for anything specific then but she was arrogant and obnoxious know it all. OK, Being that I didnt say specificaly waht I wanted I was happy and so was my friend that went with her. I didnt go back to her because her atidtude was always "I know what you want" before you even half way your sentence and then shes all like "of course you like it" because shes hair god. I found out she opened her new shop by my house which I was already going to an amazing hair salon in bensonhurst called "Delaqua" pricey but their craft is totally worth it. I just hated the commute so decided to give Lora a shot again. Background info I have my cosmetology license and do hair also, its just nice to be pampered from time to time. I colored my hair as a base color mahogany, and went to her for highlights and just a root touchup. I show her a pictyure because her accent is so strong its just impossible to understand her. And she tells me I know what you want" well ok then. Her shop is small and super cluttered, no where to comfortably sit. Her assistant speaks no english and i'm sure it hurt her to smile. I waited about 20 mins to get seated at her chair because she was on thephone, talking to a vendor and doing someone else's hair... I finally get seated I tell her again how I want it she obviously says she did my base color because its amazing... i correct her and say I did it myself actually. So she tells me to pick a color from her Magma color swatches so I show her the picture and again say 'I want these highlights those arent the color I want dont you have more tones?' and she said ' I don't use bleach'.. (clearly been using the same colors all these years maybe she should consider bleach or atleast expanding her hair products...) So we pick a color and I say I guess were going to have to go for a natural blended look, And she says I know what to do. She takes me to the shampoo bowl and gives me a shampoo cap... which is just washing your hair with shampoo and bleach she tried to say its a special lightneing way that wont damage the hair, again I remind her I know what it is.. I do hair. but this isnt my first choice ever for anyone. So again I just wanted my hair to be done and not think about it just let me relax so as I was waiting for this to be washed off which i thought was gonna be like 2 mins because again this is bleach on your whole head and scalp, a Russian woman obnoxiously comes in speaking loud and laughing over my head the place is a closet why would she be yelling ?! so im annoyed because I'm sick of being in the bowl and she yelling and i'm not getting exactly what I wanted. 30 mins went by i get washed by her troll face assistant, my hair has just been bleached for 30 mins you have to be gentle so it wont break,,, what does she do? she treats my hair as if its a brillo pad. I have thick straight silky hair. so i tell her be gentle please your 1. hurting me and 2. my hair has just been bleach what are you doing?? I go back on the chair and she decides its not light enough so again I go to the shampoo cap and I say your going to damage my hair. and now she says no no its gentler now and a russian man in his thick accent tells my bf that was patientlty waiting "very indecisive girl" and my bf says no she came in with a picture" and im in the bowl for 10 mins more now i feel my hair so dry and i ask for a conditioning treatment and says yes we will. (never did) finally 1.5 hours later, we get to the highlights in like a red color and lets me wait. so now my hair is patchy: the roots are yellow with my natural dark brown spots, the ends are orange and she says "after this i blowdry you. And I look at her like shes joking and I say what about my roots and the yellow? and she says no its blended only now its because its wet.... annoyed she puts a Violet color... how did she get violet from the mahagony color I came in with that I wanted to stay that color just add highlights and retouch the roots? finally its washed off so I get it blow dried and now my hair is engine red and no highlights to be found and im about to burst into tears because 4 hours later I look like a BAD Rihanna job- Im Olive skin tone I didn't go there to get a Hood rat makeover. she hands me over a 250. bill, I say I didnt ask for all this I just wanted my highlights why am I getting charged over 200?!?! no haircut just damage! I went home looked at my hair and scoped it. The back was patchy and brassy orange, hot roots, the highlights blended with the base color, my hair felt like hay. A month later I ahd to cut my waist long hair to shoulder length because how damaged it is, my scalp gets dry and itchy thanks to her "gentle special process of lightening" she doesnt listen to you and needs to update her products and knowledge. DO NOT GO TO HER
