Took my girlfriend there one time for a nice dinner and they wouldn't accept a visa giftcard, but they would gladly accept my visa debit card. Not sure how that works. We went to dinner here for our anniversary and were very pleased with our choice. I mentioned when I made the reservation about the occasion and everyone we spoke with while there congratulated us. The food was excellent and the service attentive. For a town like Columbia, this is a great restaurant to have. This place is beyond terrible. Very disappointed. They uncooked our food twice. Our chicken was bleeding and our overpriced steak was hemorrhaging. The steak had to be recooked instantly. The chicken had to be reheated halfway through, but it was not salvageable and admittedly refunded. But it doesn't end there. We waited over an hour for the food to be served...and it was poorly cooked. This was on top of waiting nearly 20 minutes before the waiter took our order. It's Saturday night, party of 10, seemingly no restaurants take reservations. Chris McD's stepped up and offered to seat us in their "back" room, which is more like a 4-seasons room. They cranked on the heat and by the time we got there, the room was like a toasty refridgerator. The air was warm, but the walls, tables, fixtures, etc. were cold. We were fine with that and had the room to ourselves. We ordered appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. Everyone was very pleased with the food quality. The Ahi appetizer was exceptional, the spinach salad was very good, and the scallop entree was fantastic. Of the crab legs, pasta, steak, Ahi, lump crab cakes, the only disappointment was with the steak. It was "okay" - not great. The desserts looked wonderful on the sample tray and tasted even better. All of us were impressed. Our waitress was very attentive and did a great job with us, especially since we were in the back room. I'm sure she had other tables in the main dining room, but we didn't notice. She was eager to give recommendations which we were eager to follow. read more

The experience at Chris Mc D's was long overdue given that I have lived here for five years. Service-professional, pleasant, and well-timed. Lighting- dimmed but not dark (as compared to competitor Cici's across the street). Menu- excellent selection to fit every taste. And the food- unforgettable, timeless and truthfully would love to eat dinner here every night. We had a 3 inch thick filet cooked flawless medium rate and prosciutto wrapped Jumbo sea scallops. Wine was suggested by the server and he knew what he was speaking about. Definitely must give them a visit. I can't wait until my next meal. read more

It is challenging to find excellent fine dining experiences in central Missouri, but we did just that this evening! We celebrated our anniversary with a flawless dinner tonight. Our server, Aaron, was a knowledgeable and delightful addition to our evening of great food and drinks. The word, balanced kept coming to mind. The clementine cosmo was perfect and obviously made by a well trained bartender. The crab and shrimp dip was a perfect balance of seafood, sherry and a crispy topping. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and as flavorful as any steak I've had this year. And yes, I put a picture of my lobster on Facebook! We live 45 minutes from this great place and somehow it fell off our radar. We will be seeing Chris McD's many times before our next anniversary! read more

The atmosphere was very nice and the service was excellent, no complaints there. I had a cocktail. It tasted good, and it was very strong, which I appreciate when they charge that much for it. The appetizer course was actually kind of better than our entree. The calamari was perfect, with amazing red chili mayo. The beef carpaccio, which neither of us had had before, was also amazing. My boyfriend salted it a little, but it's easier to add salt than take it away once it's been over-salted. For entrees, the boyfriend thought not all the flavors in his duck went together as smoothly as they could. It was over-salted, and didn't really get any sweet flavor from the cherry, you kind of had to dig to get the cherry. He loved his polenta - he'd never had it before, but I can attest that polenta, when done wrong can go very wrong, and that was perfect polenta. His spinach was also cooked perfectly. My fish was supposed to be "pepper-crusted" and the pepper totally overwhelmed the fish. The fish was well-cooked though, and everything else on that plate was perfect - the pasta was delicious and the vegetables were cooked so delicately, it was amazing. We were also impressed by how much food they actually give you, even the small plates - we were expecting a fancy schmancy restaurant to give us tiny portions. The fish was really what took it down to 4 stars. You have to be tough on (relatively) expensive restaurants. read more

Ok, this place has a lot of potential, but the experience was not as good as I would hope for the price. The restaurant was very clean and the staff was professional. Our appetizer was great (meat and cheese plate) and we were both very happy with the salads (warm spinach salad and wedge salad). However, the main dishes were both very bland. My chicken had was cooked great but had no salt. The steak was also cooked well (although just a tad undercooked), but it was not seasoned great so that you really though you were enjoying it. The sides for the two meals were also just ok, but both had almost no salt. And for the record, I'm hate over salting and usually like it a little undersalted. But I'm not sure that they put any salt on these at all. For $88 before tip, I would have expected better. read more

My wife and I received a gift card from her father for Chris McD's. We entered the front door, and I was kind of surprised at how tiny the waiting area was. Not to be deterred, we decided to sit in the bar. We were greeted almost immediately by a waitress, and she was very attentive and friendly throughout the entire dinner. It was somewhat cramped and we were not all that comfortable. A couple was seated just a few feet from us, and we had to listen to their conversation the entire time we were there, which made it more uncomfy. We ordered our food and drinks, and it all came in a reasonable amount of time, and was tasty. In the meantime, four people came in and sat in the corner, again a few feet from us, to wait for their table. We had no chance for a quiet dinner for just the two of us. The food and drinks were above average. The price was well above average. For two plates of pasta, two salads, and two bloody Mary's, we paid about $90, including taxes and tip. That is way out of our price range, especially considering the details I gave above. We have no intention of returning. read more

Food was excellent and service was good. It was Family/football weekend at Mizzou and they were busy. My steak was excellent! The cheese/meat appetitizer tray was very good especially the pepper spread. We will definitely return when we visit Mizzou again. The restaurant is in a stripe mall but don't be put off. I will add, however, that I also have been going to McD's for years and I find that it's a great place for happy hour; my colleagues and I enjoy the quiet atmosphere. I am relatively new in Columbia. On my birthday I was choosing between two places to go for a seafood dinner. At a friend's glowing recommendation, I was convinced to come here. Unfortunately, our first time was an "unhappy" experience. My mom ordered the salmon and I ordered the mahi-mahi, both were cooked just like we want it but the salmon was bland to taste and the mahi-mahi sauce almost taste like curry sauce instead of mango/pineapple like it said on the menu. I even had my friend taste the sauce. My friend ordered a peanut-butter cake dessert (to-go) which according to our server is the newest in their menu. My friend got home and what's in the box? Cheesecake! The disaster did not stop there, I checked the debit card charges and I was charged twice the amount of what's in my receipt! I went back armed with the receipt of course and a printout of my card charges. Not the best reception I got, you can guess. I am told their was a glitch in their system at that time---okay, it happens. What's not okay is that I showed you the documents that you made a mistake and you telling me you're taking my word for it and that I would not have come back if it's not true!! Definitely not the way to handle it! You charged me over a $130 and that's in paper!! You know my friend is not going to hear the end of it for recommending this place! The whole experience would have been a total disappointment if not for our server (Marshall-pleasant) and the appetizer (thai curry shrimp). SMH. read more

My husband and I had dinner last night and the food was quite wonderful. I had the steak "oscar" with a filet of beef, shrimp and asparagus in a great gorgonzola cream sauce. Hubby had the ribeye special with mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes and fresh broccoli. He was extremely pleased. These are not the sort of meals you have every day, but are wonderful for a special occasion. The server is the reason for a one-star deduction. The food is edible, but last time I had a steak there it was overcooked and underflavored. If I hadn't gone with a Gift Certificate I would have been more upset. Wasn't sure whether to eat here or at CC City Broiler. After reading several reviews on both steak joints I decided to phone each of them and have them rate themselves, their menu, and quality of food and service. After I heard their responses I asked the dreaded question " How would you compare your restaurant to the other choice." The answers were reveling, and I chose the restaurant that sounded the most confident (actually complimenting their competition) . I now know why they were so confident. The food at Chris McD's was definitely self explanatory. Everything we ate was very well prepared, and presented. The staff was on point. Drinks were full and fresh all through the dining experience. Worst dining experience ever! We went here for our 20-yr anniversary tonight and we both ordered the dinner special; broiled lobster tail. Both tails were severely undercooked! I requested upon ordering to substitute shoestring potatoes with garlic mashed and they were left off my plate. The waiter didn't come back promptly after dropping off dinner plates; about 5-7 mins passed before another server came over to inquire if everything was ok; when I noted the seafood was raw. She came back with a plate to take the tails away; leaving the plates...our side dishes were cold by the time the recooked tails came back. Then they were tough--sides cold and we were then presented with a full price bill (-$7.50 credit for dissatisfaction). So...bottom line-save your dinner, date and money! If you are wanting quality food and service; go to CC's City Broiler! My $90 would have been better spent and more pleasant dining experience. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

Initially planned to go to CC's Steakhouse, but due to long wait and our tragic hunger, we went to Chris McD's. Looked at menu and noticed similar prices and food options. Ordered a filet mignon that was burnt and without question purchased from WalMart down the street (despite costing $40). For how hungry we were you would think anything would have been delicious, but not so. To give it one star, is being incredibly generous. If you take one thing from this post, it should be that afterwards we went immediately to Taco Bell. God speed if you plan to eat here. read more

The highlight of Chris McD's is the Pork Osso Bucco. They call it a "small plate" but this is a Flinstones-sized portion of pork on the bone. It is slow-cooked in a sauce/ marinade that gives it huge flavor and is served over orzo in a sauce with a little zing to balance the richness of the meat. My husband likes the Kansas City Strip and said it was one of the best steaks he has had - definitely the best that was not his preferred fillet. (He tried their fillet with the blue cheese on another visit but thought the blue cheese overpowered the flavor of the filet.) Plus the strip steak comes with yummy shoestring cut fried onion rings that I can steal off of his plate. The kind of onion rings you can tell are freshly made, not frozen hunks of onion with no flavor. I usually get the wine flight so I can have different wines for my different courses but the smaller portions mean I can drive home. The ambiance here is kind of cookie-cutter restaurant. It feels like a hotel restaurant, including the fact that is usually pretty quiet. I think there is too much competition from CC Broiler's across the street. But I really do not care about ambiance when they have great food and drinks. read more
