I loved Las Margs!!! Being that it was my first time, I was nervous to see the rating beforehand was only 2 1/2 stars, my gals said it was a hot spot!! And they weren't kidding! We showed up and it was PACKED! We waiting about 40minutes for a 7pm Thursday dinner, which went by quickly. But they had a great system of letting you know when your table was ready. Our service was great! Quick & polite. The food was DELICIOUS!!!! I got the Arroz Margaritas dish and was feasting! Not only is this dish huge, but it's got all you could need/want in a Mexican dish. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant that is downtown. Trust me when I say the fresh guacamole appetizer will completely rock your world. The service is wonderful given the fact that it's in a spot right beside a major university and it's usually flooded with students. I love to get their enchiladas rancheros, but everything is delicious. They bring life and excitement to their outdoor porch with events, and their servers are friendly. It takes a lot for a restaurant to stay in business for a while in a highly competitive area, and las Margaritas has withstood the test of time, formed many great memories for my family and friends and made comfort, American-stye Mexican food ( I will admit I do not know what authentic Mexican style is because I have only ever had Mexican at restaurants in America and I know there is a difference). Food was good but I found a piece of plastic in my taco. I let a server know, and they said it would be taken off the bill. I thought they would bring out another taco since I had only had about half of one, but I never got any more. I understand it's a restaurant and things like this happen, but I was hungry & wanted to eat. I love their outdoor are and the margs are great! If there's a next time this happens, I'll be sure to ask for the tacos to be replaced, I just didn't know I needed to ask for what I ordered after finding plastic in the first one. read more

I had a pleasant experience here at Las Margaritas Downtown. Food was good, BUT the rice was a bit bland for my specific taste buds. I give FIVE STARS to the manager man with the absolute PHATTY. He really did make my experience ten MILLION times better. The decor was very swell and made my experience comfortable. The chairs were a bit small for my phatty, a bit uncomfortable for my enjoyment. Our waiter was so so quiet. It was very hard to hear him and he was very assertive about our drinks. He wouldn't let us get queso before we told him our drink order. -2 points for his very quiet voice. But for the girls, would 10/10 recommend for a girls night! Everyone at our table liked what ordered. The lunch menu is very affordable and they don't short change you on the amount of food. The wait staff was very attentive to our drinks. The decor was quaint, maybe they could have put a little more effort into it but it's fine. They have outdoor seating too which was a nice option when the weather is good. Please DO NOT EAT HERE if you are a person of color ! This restaurant is one of my family's favorite places to eat at after a busy day. First problem we encountered was that we came in and were told it was going to be a 5-10 minute wait (the restaurant was empty). We got seated and placed our orders. When I received my plate the nachos were cold and disgusting ! I asked to get something different so the manager came over (already visibly upset) and asked me what I would like to do. I asked him if I could get my meal replaced and he became even more upset but now he is directing it towards me. He agreed to replace my meal and stormed away from the table. I followed him and asked him to not make my food, at this point I have lost my appetite and no longer wanted to eat. He proceeded to become more and more upset with me and walked away from me again into the kitchen . He finally came out the back of the restaurant and I tried speaking to him again. He continued to speak/yell over me and threaten to call the cops on me. My family heard the commotion in the empty restaurant and proceeded to come over to understand what was going on. He immediately started yelling at my family, saying that we were attacking him and called the police on my family. After calling the police another manager came over and they spoke in Spanish (thinking we wouldn't understand). He proceeded to tell the other manager that my family were "acting like typical black people" , we've been difficult since we've walked in the door and that he "doesn't care for our kind" (referring to African Americans). After hearing this my family decided to pay and leave before things got out of control. I didn't receive the pleasant first time experience I was hoping to have with my family. As a general manager myself I would NEVER treat a customer the way my family and I were treated. Neither myself nor my family will be returning to this restaurant and I encourage if you are a person of color PLEASE DO NOT COME to this restaurant ! read more

I loooove Las Margs and am so excited their new location is finally open! Everything is just as good as their south location. Staff was super friendly, lots of big TVs (March Madness currently playing), a lot more seating than I was expecting they could fit in that space without it feeling crowded, and everything is so bright and vibrant inside. They have a patio that has potential to be great when the weather warms up. The new location is just as good as the first, just now in walking distance after class and they have a new express lunch menu to make is easy to stop in on your lunch hour. read more

The service we had was terrible but the food was good. I asked for sugar around the rim instead of salt and the margarita still came with salt. My friend asked for cheese on the burrito and they brought it out with no cheese and then asked if it was okay if she had it like that. She was also told cheese on the burrito was no extra charge and was then charged $2.00 extra when it was only $3.00. I was also brought a bill for $2.25 tacos but on the menu it states $1.99. The menu items are different prices then when they actually bring out the bill. To I gut is my first night in Columbia and I had a friend recommend this restraining. I normally am not the type to leave reviews but i had to considering the service was so amazing!! We had Kendall serving us and she was just incredible! She was always there to refill our drinks and ask us if we needed something. She stopped and joked around with us a bit and honestly it felt like I was in a restaurant in my homewtown. She gave the restaurant a very homey feeling. I've been to this location a couple of times and never had an issue. This time I couldn't help but give them a bad review. The service was terrible. There was no wait, so they were not that busy. It took 20 minutes to order and 50 minutes to get one margarita (after we ordered it twice because she forgot). When she finally come back it was the wrong drink. Our server was not apologetic, she was trying to charge us for the marg that we repeatedly told her was wrong and that we didn't drink. Really wanted to like this place because I have been to their other location, but I just couldn't. Called in an order & they told me it would be ready in 10 minutes. I thought this seemed fast for how much food i ordered. I get there, and the bag they gave me was noticeably small. I step outside and go through it, seeing my cheese enchilada, fried ice cream, and queso are all missing. I go inside to be told they need to charge me again for it. I had not brought my card because I had paid on the phone. After a few minutes, the hostess sees all three items were on my tab, i had been charged, but they just forgot to make it? Not sure how that happens. We sit down and wait for the rest of our food. While waiting, a girl comes in from the patio- with a worm in her drink. They literally served her a drink with a worm in it. Finally, the hostess comes back with a small cup of queso- for $5?-, no cheese enchilada, and a fried ice cream.... that she made. I appreciate her trying to help, but I would have liked the chef to be making my food, not the hostess. I didn't even bother asking for the cheese enchilada, I just wanted to leave. read more
