My husband and I love to go to Chris McD's for happy hour and a light dinner in the bar area. The service is quick and the servers are always pleasant. There are cocktail specials which are continually changing and never disappoint. Tonight my husband tried the day's featured drink - a watermelon colada while I had a pomegranate lemonade with vodka - I can't recall the exact name. Both drinks were very refreshing and superbly blended. We each ordered from the bar menu because we weren't wanting a heavy meal - the bar menu food is very reasonably priced and portioned. Everything is always delicious. This time was no exception. We love the cozy bar atmosphere....great atmosphere for a first date or to catch up with an old friend over cocktails and bar food! read more

Pleasantly delicious salmon for being located in the middle of a state in the middle of the country! Calamari was also a yummy appetizer. Martinis were strong and tasty. Actual atmosphere is a little outdated, but not overly so. Server was very attentive & had excellent food recommendations when sought out. read more

Still a 5 star restaurant for us. Last night our party of 6 had 5 steaks and the salmon dinner with salads, drinks and desert. The drinks were perfect...their bartenders are very good. The salads were very fresh. The steaks - filet mignon, KC strip, and aged rib eye were all piping hot, cooked exactly to order (we were all medium rare and one medium). The onion rings were amazing! Mashed potatoes were very good. The salmon and scalloped potatoes were excellent, as expected. Desert was a slice of shared carrot cake...which was also very good. They have been updating the decor as well. It looks much nicer inside and not as dated as a couple of years back. The wait staff are true professionals. The place is clean. They take reservations for parties of 6 or more (20% gratuity added authority automatically - but even so, our waiter pointed it out before we signed our checks). I was in Columbia for a conference, and someone told me I should come here (I needed a steak!). I walked in around 7 and it was super busy. The hostess was kind, told me it would be about an hour wait but that if I found a seat at the bar I could eat there. I immediately found an open seat and the bartender promptly greeted me and got me a drink. I sat next to a couple, who I found out were regulars, and they gave me some food suggestions. The bartender was helpful and attentive when I had questions. I got a 12oz steak with truffle fries- it was cooked perfectly and it was so delicious. The fact that they have regulars that rave about this place was definitely a good indicator of a great establishment. I chose this place because of its eclectic menu and its Yelp reviews. I couldn't have been more pleased. Start with the service: I ate at the bar and Haley was quick to offer a limited but quality selection of wines. And the fellow diners were hosptible. From the menu I chose the seafood chowder and jerk salmon salad; both were NYC quality and down home quantity. Even though this a strip mall joint, its standards are highest and the parking is free. The food here is absolutely the best. The waitstaff really knows and understands the menu. This gives them a great insight into good pairings.. The only negative is the music they are playing in the dining room, where it used to be jazz at a level that enhanced your meal, now they are playing much more heavy metal type music at volumes that distract from the fine dining experience and from the lovely time that we used to have with friends. The music is out of touch with the prices that one pays to eat and drink in this fine dining establishment. Dinner this evening at Chris Mc D's. There was a short wait when arriving told 25 mins for 2 in dining area or we were able to sit in the bar right away and have dinner. We waited in the bar for our table and just a few minutes into our drinks we were escorted to the dining area. Dinner tonight was New York Strip. Ordered medium and very well prepared. The Truffle Fries are a must try also. Our server was great and our drinks never ran empty. The only negative thing to say about the experience is the noise level is a little high which is normal these days but the rock music being played could probably go away. read more

First experience dining yesterday evening with my husband and a couple friends. We are in town for work an was told this restaurant was worth visiting. The food was phenomenal. If this review was based just on the food I'd give it 5 star. Some of the best food I've ever had. I started off with the pineapple martini while we waited at the bar for our table. While waiting we shared the shrimp and crab dip an as appetizer which was incredible. My husband and I both had the Kansas City Strips, we both agree they were the best steaks we've ever had. For dessert we shared creme brulee and it was also delicious. Service on the other hand was nothing satisfactory whatsoever. If I could review JUST the service I'd give 1 star. Other than the hostesses you front who were extremely welcoming and friendly, the service we received throughout the evening was not good. Starting at the bar, we practically had to beg both bartenders to ever pay attention that we were there, were paying customers and wanted a couple drinks. Multiple times we attempted to get their attention and it was as if they were paying no attention to any bar guests. Extremely aggravating. Then we were seated by the hostess who was very nice. Upon going to the table two different waitresses bumped into us and didn't say anything, which came off a little rude but we though oh well they're busy. So we are seated and our waitress gave us the run down of the menu, we order... don't see her again until after the food comes. At the end we were full and ready to go, our waitress was no where to be found for our checks. She finally came and brought one check. We gave her our cards and explained the checks were supposed to be separated, explaining that my husband and I were on one check and the other couple with us was on another. She said okay. She came back and instead split the check in half, which whatever since we already paid... but still very aggravating considering we explained how checks were to be separated. Good food, slow service and be careful if ordering dinner... soup or salad do not come with and they don't warn of $12 salad and $7 soup up charge. Server asked if we wanted soup or salad but never said extra enormous charge. Reviews were good but our experience wasn't. Party of 8... 6 meals came and waited 8-10 min for salad entree and another dinner. No apology for delay and when asked about $90 in charges -that she was sorry, but she said she asked if we wanted to add and never said there's charge. Then said it's loud in restaurant- apparently not trained to be clear... sketchy. No offer of anything and gratuity added since large party. While living in Columbia, I had never visited Chris McDs and probably because of its location. Though I was in the strip mall every Wednesday for my weight watchers' meetings, it never seemed appealing to return and spend $100 on food. Well, I got my chance to visit when my boss hosted our Christmas party here this year. From the moment we entered, our glasses were full and we had perfect service. The bread and salad were both fantastic but the stars were the entrees. Because I've never been here, I'm not certain if these dishes are on the regular menu, but they were delicious!! I had the roasted chicken breast with rosemary jus and mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was moist and delicious. My man had the filet with a gorgonzola cream sauce. I about died for this sauce. It's a good thing I don't know how to make it or i would be in some serious trouble. I wanted to dip everything in it! I can't wait to return when I have a chance. It's kinda tucked back into a strip mall but it is better than you'd expect from the entrance. I made reservations for a group of around 20 people and they were nice about it and didn't make us choose a limited menu and even let us do individual checks. There is a back room for large groups but it's kinda weird since it has floor to ceiling windows with a view of a parking lot. The service was good and I think most people enjoyed what they ordered. I had salmon that was OK, smothered in butter isn't what I normally want from seafood. My one problem with the evening was that they pushed together a row of circular tables to fit us all so there was big gaps between people and we almost had to shout to talk to each other. Other than that it was an enjoyable meal. The main dining area is meant to be more romantic and has some serious mood lighting going on. read more

We ate here this past Tuesday. It was our first time dining here. We were grateful they had a kids' menu. My husband had the crab legs & a sirloin. I had the Maine lobster tail with the sirloin. The crab is better than the lobster but the lobster was still delicious. I also had the seafood chowder to start. It was really good for a chowder. It's very fragrant & savory. I'm not usually a chowder fan but this one I'll definitely have again. The crab dip was the best I've had since leaving VA Beach. And the bread that it's served with compliments it perfectly. We also had the meat & cheese tray. My kids did enjoy it as well as us. For dessert I had their caramel apple torte. It is seriously one of the best desserts I've ever had. You must try it! Had a celebration dinner for son and his girlfriend's 21st birthday. We had an excellent experience at Chris McD's including service and food. Arrived around 6:00 on Saturday, very short (10") wait. Our server, Shelby, was attentive and pleasant. Our table had scallops, salmon, steak and a request for vegetarian pasta. Everything was delicious, well plated, good serving size. I'm inclined to give them a pass on how long it took to get our food because it was clear they were having a bad night. But there shouldn't be a five minute lag between one half of our party getting their food and the other. My main objection, though, is that we brought in a doormail coupon that included "free dessert" for everyone in the party. I put that in quotation marks because on our way out, we walked past another party as they were being showed the dessert tray, and the desserts on that tray were significantly different (larger, more elaborate, included fresh fruit, etc.) that the tray we were shown. My were out for a nice meal with some friends, and probably would have opted to pay for one of the nicer desserts over the tiny free ones we were offered. I wish I could give this review a 5 star but I was really disappointed with our service. The food was great the service was not. This was suppose to be a specials night for us. It was our engagement dinner. We had reservations for six of us, everyone but my Fiancé order steak, he order the chicken, our waitress even comment that the chicken was her favorite. An hour and half later everyone meal finally come out, to which they tried to give my Fiancé a stake as well. He told them that's not what he order. Then a manager came out to tell him our waitress didn't even put his order in would he like a steak , he cannot eat red meat, but they kept insisting to get him a stake. At this point he told them don't worry about it, because the manager said it would take a while before the chicken would be done. She then came back out and told him it would only take 10 minutes and she could get it ready for him to take home. Everyone else is now done with their dinner and his food still was not ready. I then order dessert, we waited and waited, our waitress then brought our check out and never brought the dessert. 30 minutes later his chicken was finally brought to him. For a specials night it was suppose to be my Fiancé didn't even get to enjoy a meal with our friends and Family. Very disappointing. I have gone here a couple times in the last month and I must say it has definitely gone downhill. The first time I ordered one of their specials the dry aged strip steak and it was terrible very tough not as good as even the regular strip steak that is 20 bucks cheaper for the same size. That was the first bad experience then tonight I had another bad experience here let's start with the appetizer the calamari tasted it like it had been thrown in cornmeal and deep-fried for five minutes. I've been coming here for years and the portion of calamari has gotten substantially smaller you get more french fries than calamari it's like 75% french fries at this point and the calamari that you do get is definitely lower quality than it was years ago. Next the lamb chops they were four of them and I could've finished them in two bites. Onto the main course this time I got the regular strip steak because the dry aged one was not good last time first they got the plating wrong and brought it out with the wrong side they did fix that and they were very nice about it. The main problem with the steak is just simply it was tiny another person at our table also ordered the strip steak there's was at least a third bigger it is listed on the menu at a 12 ounce size this steak was 9 ounces on a good day it was clearly the butt end of the strip and amazingly still tasted better than the steak from a couple weeks ago.Overall the wait staff was very nice very polite very good service the food was not terrible but it wasn't amazing either and it was extremely overpriced for what you got. read more

Had Valentines Day dinner with my wife on Wednesday (the day after Valentines Day) and she decided to try Chris McDs after some recommendations from friends. We had stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and king crab legs and the ribeye for dinner. All of the food was truly excellent. However, the service was even better. It's a sad fact, but a fact nevertheless, that when you have truly exceptional service; it's very rare. It was the icing on the cake, so to speak.
